>> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is "eyewitness news" this morning. reports of vandalism at yet another jewish cemetery in our area. ahead images of the damage to dozens of gravestones. >> a neighborhood on edge. after a young girl is kidnapped and sexually assaulted. what police know about the man they're now looking for. >> and, following that strike on syria. what comes next. and what we're learning about events leading up to the military action. >> today is saturday, april 8th. good morning, i'm jan carabeo. those stories and more. but first let's get right over to meteorologist, justin drabick with the eyewitness forecast. good saturday morning, tell me little sunshine on the way today? >> oh, we have a lot of sunshine throughout the whole week, even into next week, and

we'll crank up the warmth next week making run at 80 degrees. yesterday little rough with the clouds, chilly temperatures holding in the 40's most of the day, now we make run at six off degrees today, even tomorrow, even warmer. now, great week toned get outside. really both days, but tomorrow will be the warmer day if you like the mild temperatures. chilly this morning, still. we have the cold air, in place, so you'll need the heavier coat, and early morning hours, until the sun gets up, starts to warm things up, maybe just light jacket later this morning into the afternoon. right now at the airport, 41 degrees, west breeze at 13, so talking about windchills this morning in the mid three's right now, that's what it feels like on exposed skin around the city. actual air temperature below freezing in mount pocono, 38 in reading, close to 40 degrees in south jersey in milville and at the atlantic city airport. zoom into some suburbs, normal cold spot, quakertown, willow grove, doylestown, mid to upper 30's this morning, sustained winds at 15 miles per hour in some locations, they'll increase little bit this afternoon, some higher gust toss near 30. that's going to take bit of

edge off some of the milder temperatures, but still much better than yesterday. this is what it currently feels like though. with the windchills, 18 up at mount pocono, 29 in reading, 32 for the actual windchill value in wilmington, delaware, clouds moving on out. clear skies over us right now. full sunshine today. should get us near 60 degrees around philadelphia. mid maybe some upper 50's at the shore, and close to 50 degrees in poconos, like i said tomorrow even warmer, then talking about 80 degrees temperatures next week, show you the forecast coming up. >> accident in philadelphia fairmount park sent three people to the hospital. now it is not clear what caused this single car crash, which happened at kelly drive and south first i drive at 3:00 this morning, two people now in critical condition, the other in stable condition. >> police are also investigating what caused another accident, this one on i-95 near philadelphia international airport. the single car crash here

happened in the northbound lanes, near the island avenue exit around 2:30 this morning, and there are no report of injuries here. >> well, someone has vandalized yet another jewish cemetery this one in delaware county. and police are trying to figure out who did it. and "eyewitness news" viewer sent us pictures of damaged headstones from mount sharon cemetery, east springfield road near west ave. in springfield. some grave mark ers were broken, others were knocked over. there is no word yet on how many gravestones were damaged or whether police have any leads. >> well, the fbi and delaware state police have joined in the manhunt for who ever kidnapped and sexually assaulted a four year old girl in new castle county. someone abducted her from 4800 block of sugar plum court in pike creek. she was found few hours later at banning park in elsemere. as "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown tells us, police say they'll do whatever it takes to track down what they call a heartless monster.

>> it was just very very emotional. >> yes. >> you know, something like that happens. >> edward fight back tears, emotion still running high in the village every plum run in new castle delaware, hours after a four year old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted. the child outside playing with friends in the 4800 block of sugar plum court, when police say a man approached her at 7:00 p.m. on thursday. >> they were approached by a white hispani hispanic male whoe up in a dark colored sedan vehicle, and engaged the four year old in small conversation. >> police say the man managed to walk the victim to his car and sped off. the child's friend gave chase, but couldn't catch up. >> we had heard a scream, but little girls always are screaming and going, you know, doing things like that, and we didn't think anything of it. >> a frantic search for the missing four year old girl sent family members and neighbors scouring the streets, canvassing every corner along with police.

after what must have seemed like eternity for loved ones, police received another 911 call at 8:45 p.m. nearly two hours later, a witness spotted the child walking near banning park. >> very surprised, very shocked, everybody got their eyes and ears open now. >> there is nothing lower, nothing lower that a person can do than to take advantage and sexually abuse and take the innocent of a four year old child. >> this is an active and ongoing investigation which now includes the fbi and the delaware state police department. again, police are urging the public to stay vigilant about in the g any suspicious active tip, suspicious cars, or people in their neighborhood. tow new castle county police department, natasha brown, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." meantime, authorities are investigating an attempted abduction in quakertown bucks county. this happened on the unit block of elm street.

seven year old boy told police he went outside to ride his bike when a man jumped out from behind a bush and tried to grab him. the boy then ran to nearby school and was not hurt. police are asking anyone with information to call police. >> two wildwood new jersey men are charged with sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl. police say 20 year old mikea butler and 18 year old travel on smith gave the teen alcohol and drugs and all the add her at home on rio grand avenue. suspect are being held at cape may county jail. >> the united state is promise to go keep the pressure on syria after thursday's air strike. the now leaders are signalling new economic sanctions are next. us tomahawk missiles hit their targets during the raid, destroying the base where syria launched chemical weapons attack tuesday. satellite photo shows the missiles damaged radar stations, and this photo shows president trump and cabinet officials being briefed after the strike. russia has denounced the strike calling it a violation of international law.

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff has more on reaction to the u.s. strike. >> a civil war is never civil. and in the case of syria, hardly any more can finds one nation. >> the united states will not stand by when chemical weapons are used. >> in a un security council meeting congressional colleagues and us allies praised president trump's response to deadly chemical attack carried out on syrian civilians tuesday. >> making sure that assad knows when he commits despicable autrocities, he will pay a price, is the right thing to do. >> overnight president trump ordered the launch of 59 crews missiles to destroy the syrian government airfield believed to be the launch point for the attack. russian officials who back syria called this a false as sum sean. >> we describe that attack as a fragrant violation of international law. >> but i mean there have been so many violations of international law by russia that i have to say those comments don't have a whole lot of credibility. >> head of the us response

mission, commodore kate westbrooke tells cbs that he was given the launch assignment on tuesday, the same day that at least 80 civilians were killed by the dropping of deadly nerve gas. syrian american says the country feels torn on all sides. >> you know, we want to get rid of isis, and that's number one i think around the world, where everybody wants to get rid of these extremists. and then, you know, what the assad regime is doing as well as just heart breaking. >> included in a statement, russia's foreign ministry mocks the accuracy of us missiles and accuse president trump of planning this strike before the chemical attack took place. they believe that the us military could not have organized so quickly. reporting in sat center, alexandria hoff, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." protesters against the us strike in syria held a demonstration at philadelphia's city hall. they say they want to stop what they call trump administration's war escalation, and the us backed

war against syrian people. there were similar protests in other cities. and investigators are calling a deadly truck attack in sweden an act of terror. police have one person in custody, they say that man likely the driver who stole a beer truck, crashed it into a stockholme department store. this is the scene still block off this morning. at least four people were killed in the attack, and 15 others injured. as jonathan report, shoppers could be seen running for their lives. >> reporter: a man driving a stolen beer truck barrelled down the busiest shopping street hitting dozens every pedestrians before rumming into a department store. the truck bursting into flames. police immediately corded off large area, while furs responders tended to the victims. at least 15 were injured. eyewitness anna v peterson was by. >> bodies on the grounds everywhere and the sense of

panic, people standing by their loved ones, but also people running away. >> a somber prime minister told the country they've been attacked. we are treating this as an act of terror, says stefan levin. swedish parliament was lockdown, the subway suspended and the country put on heightened alert. sweden has been relatively immune from terror attacks in other parts of there, suspected isis followers. >> there has been a terror attack. >> last month in london, an s.u.v. deliberately blown down pedestrians, before crashing into the gates of parliament. >> the city center remains blocked off as the investigation continues. jonathan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." meantime, back at home, the katz jewish community center focusing on security, congressman norcross, director of new jersey homelands

security, christopher rodriguez, announced $1 million in grant money for institutions and non-profits in south jersey. cash jewish center faced threats in january. >> earlier this year we saw a coordinated attack against over 100jcc's across this great nation. and it reminded us of the every day issues that we are facing, not only as a community, but as a nation. >> now, the grant money can pay for various things, including security significance tells or physical barriers to prevent hate and terror attacks. >> a collision of two cars in north philadelphia sends one of those vehicles crashing into a septa bus. the accident happened at fifth and berk. one of the cars flipped, and it hit a route three bus, which was stopped at the bus stop. four people were hurt. three of them in the wrecked cars, the fourth person was the septa bus driver. we're told all of the injuries are minor. >> well, still ahead right here on cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this saturday morning, a new study by an environmental

and ceremony at the delaware county courthouse. veteran of world war ii left something behind after his passing, something his son can cherish. anita oh, picks up the store. >> i it was overwhelming. >> reporter: on tuesday thomas barnett lost his 95 year old father, the world war ii veteran, day later, i gained something special. >> between a letter that he wrote to me, you know, beautiful short letter, oh, amazing. kind of a lot of closure. >> tucked away in a pocket every his father's old military uniform, this handwritten note. >> may 19, 2012, dear tom, i wore this uniform from december 1944 to 45, graduate withing pilot wings with a highlight for me. hope your grandchildren will enjoy it. love dad. >> and that love for his family could only be mask by the love of his country. second lieutenant robert barr net, jr., served as a pilot in

city, right now, you can see the parkway, if you look close enough, the flags are blowing with the winds kicking up a little bit today. so it is going to be chill think morning, with a bit of windchill. we've seen windchill values down into the 30's right now, that's what it feels like on exposed skin. so feels like little bit more like late winter but will change over the next few hours being check out the headlines, a loft sunshine returns today, sticks around for the next several days, each day little warmer. we have 80 agree temperatures coming on the way specially for next week, like i said, moving back toward dry pattern, early spring time, rapid fire of storms every few days, looks like that's going to go aside for a little bit, pretty good stretch coming at us if you have outdoor plans. we had a lot of rain recently, so the grounds is able to dry out. thirty-nine in millville, 42 along the coast, temperature at 46 degrees, dover, delaware, checking in at 39. similar numbers around philadelphia surrounding suburbs, not big drop off in the temperatures, because of

the wind. it is pretty gusty right now, mixing up the atmosphere, so we don't get the cold air settling in, some of the cold spots, nonetheless, mid upper 30's, little chilly for this time of year. few degrees below average. storm system continues to slowly track off to the north and east, still supporting snow up into new england, that's the cold pocket of air that was over us. lifting on out. you can see the clear skies, southwest, high pressure builds back in. and little bit gusty this morning, into the afternoon, as far as the winds goes. so we have gusts 25 to about 30 miles per hour, at least the first half of the day. then the winds start to back off. later this afternoon, into tonight, and tomorrow, just great day. perfect ten day probably with the sunshine, lighter winds, with temperatures going above average, getting close to the 70 degrees mark. so the reason for the winds this morning, strong storm system to the north, high pressure builds in from the southwest, pressure difference between the two, as the wind blows from high to low. we have west to northwest winds today. but nothing showing up across

the eastern half of the united state, we're protected by this big dome of high pressure, sunday looks great, great finish to the weekends, no problems headed into the work week, this cold front very slow mover, limited moisture with it, takes it time to push eastward, a lot of wants building ahead of that front with the southwest winds, that's why we should have no problems getting close to 08 degrees, a the loft inland spots by tuesday. today though right near average, 61 where we should be, i think some areas will hit 60 with the down sloping winds off the appalachians. tonight it is still chilly. see three's in a lot of suburbs with clear skies and the calmer winds. and then tomorrow, good rebound, upper 60s in widespread locations here inland, i think some spots do hit 70 degrees. so today, seasonable day, miler, breezy at times, 60 for the high temperature, winds gusting to about 30, then tonight still chilly, mostly clear, 42 for the city, three's in the suburbs, tomorrow, full sun, 68, maybe 70, 78 on monday, tuesday, that's when you have a great chance at reaching 80 degrees.

elevated smog pollution in 2015. philadelphia was fifth in the nation recording 212 days every elevated soot plugs. numbers that doctor walter zoo of the philadelphia physicians for special responsibility says need to be reduced dramatically. >> we believe that's exacerbate and make health more serious problem in our commonwealth and in our city. >> studies show people in areas of high pollution are at increased risk for lung disease, heart disease and stroke. >> as president trump rolls back 30% of epa budget that's means that cities like philadelphia will not have the resources and the funds to clean up the air to protect our children. >> the group is calling on local and state leaders to combat pollution and its impact on citizens health. >> when we have to now hear that 126 philadelphians every single year die from bad air, it is a remind their we have work to do. >> in case you're wondering the washington dc metro area

>> we're gearing up for absolutely gorgeous weekend. meteorologist, justin dray brick on the skydeck with the eyewitness weather forecast, justin, i'll go ahead and give this forecast five stars. i'll just do it. >> you have to. specially dealing with the past few days, with the weather, chilly temperatures we had yesterday, and just all of the uphill trends from now. and we'll get close to 80 degrees next week, finally, some consistent early spring nice weather coming at us. still colds this morning, don't get me wrong. break out the winter coat again probably had it out yesterday with the chill in the air. right now, a lot of widespread 30's for the actual air temperature. now 41 at the airport for the suburbs, down to the mid 30's allentown, quakertown, checking in at 36 degrees. mt. holly, you guys have 40 at this hour. there is breeze to deal with. so this makes it feel even colder, right now, sustained winds, ten to 15 miles per hour. and we will get little gusty specially in the morning up to around 30. here's what it actually feels like when you step outside.

freezing in wilmington, 34 in philadelphia, 18 up in mount pocono, so if you are trying to get the morning work out in outside, hope you like the cold weather, and that's what we're dealing with this morning if you are going for the morning bike ride or jog or maybe walking the dog, brace yourself, hits you hard little bit as soon as you step on outside. we have clear skies, some decent amount of sunshine today, pretty much full sun. it will be milder, that sun will go to work, with the breeze, may feel little chilly at times. we will get close to 660 with a high temperature today, which is pretty much near average for this time of year. tomorrow we keep it sunny, even warmer, upper six 60s, maybe even close to 70. then it is off to the races next week. if you like it warm, you will like the seven day forecast, i'll have a day with 80 degrees to talk about it coming up in eyewitness weather in just a few minutes, jan, back to you. >> very nice, thank you, justin. >> a manhunt now underway in delaware, for the suspects who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a four year old girl. she was playing outside on the 4800 block every sugar plum court in pike creek thursday

evening. when police say a man in a dark sedan approached her, grabbed her, and drove away. now, someone found her couple of hours later at banning park and elsemere, new castle county police say attacking the suspect is now their number one priority. >> every member of new castle county police department is committed regardless of their assignment to starving and apprehending this heartless monster. >> the fbi and delaware state police are also part of the investigation. >> well, additional testing will be done at chester county high school after a water sample tested positive for the bacteria that causes legionnaire's disease. kenneth high school was closed on friday, school officials say they're now working with health officials and have started remediation work. additional testing will be done to make sure the bacteria is gone. officials say the presence of the bacteria does not mean a person will contract the disease, and there are no cases every legionnaire's

disease at this time. the united states says it will keep the pressure on syria following thursday night's air strikes, if necessary, it will add more economic sanctions and take further military action. kenneth craig has new information about the mission that targeted the syrian airfield, which the us says syria's president used to launch chemical attack against his own people. >> fifty-nine crews missiles fired from 2us warships turned russian-made syrian jets into piles of scrap metal. they were targeted at the airfield, where us officials say dictator launched chemical attack on his own people. satellite photo shows missiles also destroyed ammo dumps, storage site, and radar stations. commodore westbrooke, who led the navy task force in the missions he was alerted for the assignment on tuesday, zoom day syrian jet was caught taking offer, dropping a bomb loaded when nerve gas killing at least 80 civilians, navy

kenneth craig, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> the senate has made history, judge kneel gorsuch is officially joining the nation's highest court. on friday, the senate confirmed gorsuch to the supreme court filling the seat vacated by late antoine scale y the vote 54 to 45. judge gorsuch will be sworn in as the supreme court justice monday morning. meantime, first lady milan ya trump and her couter part from china visited art school in west palm beach friday. search made dollars by the girls choir. later they had a little one-on-one time with the middle school student, both first ladies seen going from table to table asking student questions about their project. >> well, national dog bite prevention week kicks off on sunday, it comes at a time when number of reported dog attacks on letter carriers is the highest it's been in decades. "eyewitness news" tagged along with letter carrier james solomon in hatboro, the 19 year veteran said the dog

attacked him just last week, our area ranks 16th in this type of attack. us social service does train it workers to be safe on the job. >> trying to keep -- we have dog repellent we use, as well. >> now, records show there were 6700 reported dog attacks, and bites, on postal employees last year. >> well the reward is now up to $5,000 for information on a kitten found in a trash bag doused in gasoline this week. two sanitation workers found the kitten on tuesday, while collecting trash in reading. the workers heard the animal's cries for helped and rushed to the kitten to get that kitten to the humane society. the kitten now named miracle maisy for the next few weeks, mazily continue treatment and eventually she will be available for adoption. >> well still ahead here on cbs-3 this saturday morning. >> i'm pat gallen here at holy ghost prep, where student are literally giving others a
