>> live fcbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. well, big problems, crews close busy center city street to fix a hole likely to cause some traffic headaches today. we will tell you what caused the problem, and how long the road may be closed. >> and an investigation is underway after a man is fawn shot several times in philadelphia. a place where the victim was found and the reason officers say he was probably targeted. >> and mourners gather to remember a teacher and a child killed in a shooting at a california school. we're, what we're learning about the man believed responsible for the gunfire. >> well, today is tuesday, april 11, good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm rahel solomon. all of that plus kind gesture by the phillies getting a lot of praise on line, first, today's forecast with katie.

>> happy tuesday, you guys, roads are being look good, you touched base on the sinkhole, talking about the road closure in a little bit. things are looking good. thank you for with the iter. >> thank you. what a beautiful day it was yesterday to get outside. how could you not? absolutely spectacular. i thought of you actually because i got a gelotti at rita's, rahel, out there, too. we have nice quiet view on storm scan3, right now, all clear, virtually no cloud cover, it is still, though, very, very mild outside. and the temperature change is pretty substantial when you look at the locations like dover, trenton, even here in philadelphia, 12 degrees surplus on the thermometer, than you saw this same time yesterday. as it translates to the actual thermometer, talking 60 degrees. it is currently, 60 degrees at the airport, so, very, very mild. and even though we're very likely drop off another degree or two before the sun comes up in about two hours, still going to have the chance to warm up very efficiently, and

part that far is that wind flow. even though it is not a windy day, your winds flow is coming out of the west and southwest. so, that's going to help usher in that warmer air. and as a result, we really heat up. this might as well be june, guys, 82 degrees, the expected high in the city, with generally sunny skies, there is a cold front, how much, meisha, that waits in the wings, that's going to set us back by tomorrow with the thermometer. but for now feels like summertime. >> enjoy it. eighty-two today, all right, katie, thank you so much for that. and a very good morning to you. we are looking at beautiful shot of the talcony palmyra bridge. it is scheduled to open 4:50. so in about 20 minute or so, heads up for those of you headed out the doorway, and a big cup of coffee with me this morning, route one construction oxford valley all lanes blocked, talking about this yesterday, talking about it again today. you'll have to exit off oxford valley re-enter onto oxford valley, as well. >> this usually clears, i would say, early in the

5:00 hour. i'll let you know as soon as it does so. construction route 95 near route 320, see neighbors throughout driving around, overall looking okay. now, this is small sinkhole that opened up yesterday. repairs are being done, jim mentioned this up at the desk moments ago. seventeenth street right now is closed between walnut and locust. you will have to use alternate, 15th or 18th is your best bet, maneuver around, heads up, crews are out there repairs underway. then we have construction crews out there also. pa turnpike eastbound between willow grove, bensalem, left lane is blocked there, jim, back over to you. >> thank you, meisha. as meisha just mentioned, trouble for center city commuters small sinkhole has 17th street close from the walnut to locust. hole opened up near rittenhouse square, says service line to building in the area broke. the line is larger than a residential line, and 17th street will remain closed at least until repairs are complete. that could be this afternoon or possibly even later. >> also, new this morning, philadelphia police are investigating gunfire in west

philadelphia. it left 34 year old man dead in the street. it happened just after 2:00 a.m. on the 4100 block of brown street in the belmont section. that's where police found the victim shot multiple times, including at least once in the head. investigators say they do believe the victim was the intended target, was likely shot at point blank range. so far, no arrest haves been made in this case. >> authority are also questioning several possible witnesses to a deadly shooting inside home in kensington. this happened at about 10:00 last night. on 1900 block of east venango street. police say they arrived to find man lying on a kitchen floor, with a gunshot wound to the head. he was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later. crime scene personnel, homicide detective on location processing the scene, detective talking to the residents and individuals that are inside that location to see if they can determine exactly what occurred. >> now, police are still unsure if the victim lived at the home where the shooting happened. so far, no word on a motive.

>> driver is recovering this morning, after his suv crashed into bucks county home, happened about 8:30 last night on the 700 block of overlook drive warminster. rescue crews feed the driver from the vehicle, he was taken to the hospital; expected to be okay. authorities are still trying to figure out what caused this crash. >> bail set at $1 million for montgomery county man accused of physically abusing his two children. lower providence township police say joseph tortured his children, now ages 11 and 13, insider the family home in collegeville. children told investigators their farther abused them for years, it included forcing them to sleep in smallwood dollars box was air holes, shocking them with a electric dog collar. >> absolutely haneous charges in a area where we are, we are not accustomed to anything like this by any means. and when it does happen, it shocks our conscious, and everybody else involved. >> charges against him include 12 counts of aggravated

assault, police began their investigation after his wife was hospitalized for a fractured skull. we are learning more about a fatal police involved shooting in new castle county. investigators say officers went to an apartment march 29th to investigate a possible stolen car. when they got there, police say, leroy brown jumped from a third floor window, ran to the stolen car, then smashed it into a police cruiser. a police officer then shot brown. earlier that day, brown was injured in philadelphia during g another officer-involved shooting. >> well, closing arguments are set for today in the trial of three girls charged in a fight at a delaware high school, that left another student dead. sixteen year old amy joyner francis died last april after the fight at howard high school of technology in wilmington. before testimony wrapped up yesterday afternoon a pediatric cardiologist testified that joyner-francis suffered from a rare heart condition that had gone undetected by doctors. two former aides to new jersey governor chris christie have filed notice that they intend to appeal the verdicts in last november's so-called

bridgegate trial. bridget kelly, bill barone convicted of fraud, conspiracy, other charges for closing lanes on the george washington bridge as political pay back. barone was sentenced to two years in prison, kelly 18 months, both remain freon appeal. >> secretary of state rex tillerson will head to moscow later today a mid high intentions over the crisis in syria. expected to sit down with russia's top diplomate not with president putin him self. this morning, stopped in to italy to speak with g7 leaders to discuss the syrian civil war. trump administration trying to encourage its allies to support us policy in spear ya. russia, iran have, warned the us that they will respond with force to further strikes in syria. >> today the san bernardino school where teacher and two children were shot remains closed. meanwhile, dozens remembering the teacher and student who died from their injuries. >> ♪ >> ♪

>> family, friends, mourn the loss of life at prayer vigil last night. church members sang songs, in remembrance of 53 year old teacher karen smith, eight year old student jonathan martinez, officials also offered their condolances to the family. >> strengthen the family, give courage to their hearts, give courage to each of our hearts, and those are things that we need tonight. >> a nine year old student who has not been identified was also shot, but is recovering. police say 53 year old cedric anderson walked into his estranged wife's special needs classroom yesterday and opened fire. he shot his wife before fatally turning the gun on himself. authorities say the couple was married for just a few months. >> the irish pub children's foundation held its eighth annual gathering of heroes fundraiser here in philadelphia last night. "eyewitness news" at the irish pub at 20th anibal walnut. annual event celebrate congressional metal of honor recipients, raises money for the foundation. among those in attendance last night former vice president joe biden.

killing him. >> we believe that this could possibly be a potential rival. we don't know anything was taken at this time. >> feel scared because i've been living over here for ten years, and i see the neighborhood is changing. >> now, investigators tell you it is not exactly clear whether or not miles was targeted because he is a judge. miles' best known for his involvement at the 2008 murder cases of three of jennifer hudson's relatives. fbi offered $25,000 rewards for information leading to the shooter's after. >> it may be spring but mother nature has failed to coax old-man-winter out of minnesota. >> last night rain turned to snow around minneapolis. take a look, heaviest snowfall covered the western suburbs through the twin cities into the eastern suburbs, heavy snow spread from north branch and up along interstate 35 to just south of sand stone. meisha joining us now, none of those towns mean anything to me. what does that mean? >> now we know why you escaped that police. >> i actually lived in blaine, talking blaine, north francis,

thunderstorm, but it passes through, then pretty much done. it does knock the temperature back. which you will see in the seven day. walking you through future weather. today it, awesome. great excuse to be outside. sun block required, though, it will be bright, sunny, throughout the day. jump all way to 5:00 p.m. sun just beginning to drop over the horizon, sun glare definitely issue if you are traveling westbound, then look ahead to the overnight. start to see the speckles show up. could move in little sooner than midnight but regardless, it looks like the bulk every any wet weather will hang off until tomorrow, into the morning, and then once these showers or thunderstorm pass through, they're out of here, we ends up with some sunshine before the sun does drop over the horizon again tomorrow night, and we're in the clear generally from that point forward. at least into the up coming weekends. now, outside the board walk plaza, very calm, very tranquil at this hour, very mild, as well. there are a lot of you currently at least in the upper 50's, if not 60 degrees. so that's going to send us on upward surge here, throughout the day.

>> money watch's jill wagner joins us this morning from the new york stock exchange, good morning, so stock market mostly flat monday, but here is one airline unexpectedly finished the day higher yesterday. >> if you can believe it, shares of united airlines actually finish higher. up about 1% despite the airline dealing with fall-out from the video which showed customer being dragged by police from overbooked flight. social media users had threatened to boycott united, shares initially fell, but united ceo apologized and a lot of investors thought the company would bounce back. jim, rahel? >> so this one is fast nature to go me, jill. i understand our tax returns are due week from today, and personal website wallet hub looks at the annual chore by the numbers? >> okay, it found americans spend a combined total of 6 billion hours each year filling out tax returns, that time investment pace off, though, 70% of filers get

so, not exactly a carbon copy of yesterday. similar. it is actually warmer, however, here today. so feeling a lot more like the combination of meteorological summer than anything. but nice clear sky to start things off. even still, despite the clear sky, you haven't really cooled off all that much. it is zero six right new at the airport, probably drop down to 58 or so before the sun comes up. once it does, we are on pace to just sky rocket on the thermometer, at least for what's compared to averagement normal high, 62. you do the math. in fact, we've got shot that you can actually tie the record of 84. so i may ends up bumming the high of 82 up to 83, if not 84. meanwhile, i just heard little cooler come tomorrow, but still above average. >> yes, no one will complain about 82, right? >> absolutely, all right, katie, thank you so much. looking outside right now, still waiting for the talcony palmyra bridge to come up, scheduled to come up few minutes ago, so i'll let you know as soon as it does. tac-pal bridge will come up. ben franklin bridge, speaking of bridges, going in the

want to talk about a sinkhole, major road close in the center city so we are talking about that, overall, just construction throughout. >> lots of it, my goodness, tis the season, when you have this casino every weather, see the guys, gals, in the hard hats, all over the place. so let's get right to t i think we have great weather for anything you have going on outside, whether you are one of the construction workers headed out to your job or just enjoy the afternoon, maybe take the dog for nice long walk, this is shorts and t-shirts kind of day. storm scan3, empty right now, actually off to really mild start even despite that normally at this time of the year under nice clear sky. and we would start off little chilly, warm up throughout the day. this morning, it is still a little on the cool side for some of you, in the 50's after all, out in trenton, out in atlantic city even lancaster, bottom out into the 40's at this point. but with time, these temperatures are really going to rebound nicely. we have since last check dropped off though to 57 at the airport. so again, clear skies, having
