>> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> a woman and her granddaughter blind sided when a man on a dirt bike comes barreling towards them in upper darby and now police are on the hunt for the man who hit them and the ran. good evening, i'm natasha brown. police say the suspect on the loose right now is armed and dangerous.

"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan live in upper darby tonight with the latest on the search and also reaction from horrified eye witnesses. cleve. >> reporter: natasha, the authorities here in upper darby say the pursuit began outside of their jurisdiction and that the dirt bike driver came flying down 69th street here on this hill and then smashed into the grandmother and granddaughter at the next crosswalk. now, we talked to many eye witnesses here who described the girl's condition in particular as being heart wrenching. >> she was the one who got hit 'cause the tire marks was all on her side. >> reporter: first responders worked quickly saturday afternoon. >> i seen it coming. i seen it coming 'cause of the way he was flying. >> reporter: shenay says they entered the crosswalk unaware of the police pursuit coming down the hill. >> they were inside of our store shopping and come out and getting ready to cross the street and that's when it happened. >> but he hit both of them they went flying up in the

air. >> reporter: you were darby police say with no regard for the people he just hit he tried to escape the officers. >> the operator of this motor vehicle gets off it with a knife, pulls a knife out and carjack a vehicle and then takes off. >> reporter: police say the knife wielding suspect ditched the vehicle in the 6400 block of market street and may have ran off through cobbs creek park. the carjacking victim was not injured but the six-year-old was sent to children's hospital of philadelphia in serious condition and her grandmother to presbyterian hospital in stable condition. stacy rivera who saw the dirt fire commissioner fly down the median strip on 69th street was visibly distraught at the injuries he caused. >> it's horrible. i mean even for your kids, the dirt bikes in the streets, this is what happens. it's a sad situation. >> reporter: upper darby police say that they do believe there is surveillance video along 69th street. they're in the process of retrieving that video right now. they say they do not have any suspect information but one

witness told us that she saw the man wearing jeans and a red hooded sweatshirt. anyone with information please call upper darby police or philadelphia police. live in upper darby t-i'm cleve bryan cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> chief, thank you so much for that update. also tonight an early morning crash involving a tractor-trailer leads to a fuel spill in northern liberties. police say the truck was pulling out of a parking lot at third and spring garden when it collided with a car. crews spent about an hour or so cleaning up fuel that many leaked out of that truck. no one what you mean hurt in the crash. also r-one man is in the hospital after this car flipped over this morning in fishtown. the 33-year-old driver was hurt after the crash on the 1400 block of beech street. we're working to find out what caused this accident and how the driver system doing at this hour. and now septa's police chief isn't backing down after vandals tagged two of the transit agency's vehicles overnight. septa says the cars william parked at district seven headquarters at broad reason glenwood streets when this h

chief thomas nestel tweeted the photos saying i'm told graffiti is a cry for attention. united airlines says they're making changes to their overbooking policy following the removal of a passenger that went viral. the company sales it will require staff and crew to check in at least 60 minutes before a flight. it is legal to bump a ticket holding customer off a flight but typically not once they've already boarded. dr. david dao was caught on camera as he was dragged off of a united airlines plainy plane by airport police. he refused to give up his seat for a united employee. dao's family says he does plan to file a lawsuit against the airline. and now on this easter weekend president trump is warning terrorism system the greatest threat to religious freedom t the president is spending is the holiday at his golf club in west palm beach florida. during his weekly address president trump couldn't

seemed the isis attacks on christian churches in egypt and he called the united states a nation of believers. >> we pray for the strength and wisdom to achieve a bet tomorrow. when we're gun people of all faiths, christians jewish muslim and hindu can follow their hearts in worship according to their conscience the president acknowledged the jewish celebration of passover. he said israel stands as a monument to the jewish people's faith and endurance. vice president pence is on his way to my south korea to discuss the security. also the economy amid tension in that region. the vice president departed joint base andrews in maryland today. this comes as north korea hints of another nuclear test. this morning the communist country showed off some of its missile arsenal during a parade celebrating its founder. thousands of soldiers marched in lock step while north

korea's leader kim jong un looked on. another day of violence in syria's civil war. syrian government forces launched military strikes against two rebel held towns in the northwestern part of the country today. large explosions and smoke rose from the rubble. officials say one woman was killed, 11 people were injured. the area has been the scene of heavy fighting between the syrian army and rebels. and a bomb ripped through a convoy of buses carrying evacuees in a help post officials say at least a hundred people were killed. thousands of people have been stranded on buses after a deal to evacuate civilians caught in the middle of the fighting stalled. government and rebel forces disagreed over the number of armed civilians that could actually be evacuated. and now protesters gather in philadelphia and across the nation to call on president trump to release his income tax returns. well, dozens of folks marched down market street and they also held a rally at city

hall. the demonstration was planned for today april 15th the traditional deadline for filing income taxes. protesters say the presorts country the highest level of transparency. and chicago also hosted a big rally today. president trump says he cannot release his income tax returns because he's under i.r.s. audit. he was the first presidential nominee of a major party in more than 40 years to not release his tax returns. jesse jackson says he wants full disclosure. >> if taxation without representation is tyranny, then representation without taxation is authority takennism. we deserve democracy. we have guided missiles and misguide leadership. we deserve better. >> and the protest turned violence in california. police in riot gear arrested 15 people on the uc berkeley campus after a brawl between supporters and opponents of president trump. police had to use tear gas to disperse that crowd.

>> chaos at penn station in new york last night. you're watching cell phone video of waiting passengers as they began to run frantically when an amtrak police officer used a taser on a suspect in the crowd. people mistook the sounds as gunshots and began running. about 1200 people were inside at the time because of a problem with a stalled new jersey transit train. 13 people suffered minor injuries during this chaos. and now in bethlehem, they are already celebrating easter

>> ♪ thousands of orthodox faithful took part in the holy fire ritual. the flames appear from jesus' tomb. the holy fire is seen as the message that jesus has not forgotten his followers. the faithful try to catch some of the smoke. this year both orthodox and roman catholic christians celebrate easter on the same day. security is tight for easter services at two egyptian churches that were attacked by terrorists on palm sunday. police officers are checking pedestrians carefully and they're also blocking off roads in that area as well. authorities say religious minority are increasingly targeted by sunni islamist militants. back here at home, more than a thousand folks felt the easter spirit today for the annual philly rabbit run through the philadelphia zoo. while many wore their bunny ears tails and more, "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh explains the larger reason so many were compelled to run. >> two. >> reporter: kicking off saturday morning with a happy

and hoppy 5k. >> can't get rid of the bunny ears. >> reporter: runners laced up for the fourth annual philly run. they go through the philadelphia zoo all to raise awareness for parkinson's disease. many including liz falcone of havertown had a personal connection to the cause. >> it's important for me to get involved today because my father had died of parkinson's and he had it for like 20 some years. it's got to be a cure 'cause i think it's increasing parkinson's disease is that affecting a lot of lives. people that have it and the family around them. >> reporter: that's why jodi who has parkinson's herself organizes the events each year through the nonprofit shake it off. >> more people have parkinson's disease than ms, md and als combined. >> reporter: though there's not a cure this doctor says there's hope. >> we can't slow it down and that's the problem but it is a slow progression. you have this window of opportunity where you can hope to make things better and so that was really important to me. >> reporter: the effort is

there. there's a brand new wearable device called x speed for parkinson's patients about 30 of whom walked the event with the device this year as part of an experiment. >> it's able to measure exactly how my arm or leg is moving so the hope here is to really help them know exactly how they're doing on a day to day basis a hope that with every step they take, every day that passes will become a little bit brighter. at the philadelphia zoo, anita a oh, cbs "eyewitness news." >> look how majestic. >> that was a lovely ending shot there. little bunny ears and everything. not a bad day. a bit cloudy. >> kind of cloudy, not too bad. temperatures on the mild side but i like those bunny ears. i think they'll perk up tomorrow with sunshine and 80's. >> oh, nice. >> in store. it's going to be feeling like summer for our easter but yeah, don't leave those

chocolate eggs out too long because they'll be melting. 66 degrees as we get a live look at center city philadelphia. not the prettiest day definitely have the clouds in place, winds out of the south right now and that southerly component to our wind flow is going to usher in that warmer air. dewpoints up into the middle 50's so you might notice little bit of a muggy factor when you step outside is that storm scan3 showing us clouds in place. some spotty showers up wind across portions of pennsylvania. most of the main energy off to our north. we could see a couple of showers working through and we do have this kind of isolated shower working through parts of carbon and monroe county trying to push itself off into portions of lehigh county so maybe a drip drop up into lehighton and hail son as -- hazelton. mostly cloudy and mild. 64 degrees. overnight we'll keep around that chance of a very passing shore. most of us will be staying dry. areas of fog develop late so keep in mind if you have to head out and about early tomorrow morning.

could be dealing with reduced visibilities. temperatures not too chilly, only falling back to near 60 degrees. today we did top off at 66 degrees. right around our normal high temperature of 64. started off the day though a bit chilly at 46 degrees and the temperatures right now holding pretty stable, not cooling off too much 'cause we have this warmer air mass building in. also have that cloud deck in place. temperatures right now in dover up into the low 70's and this warmer air mass is knocking on our door, temperatures widespread in the 70's and 80's to our south on west and this big ridging in the jet stream is going to kind of lift its way up over the northeast so tomorrow temperatures will be running about that 20 degrees above average and we actually won't be too off, far off from our record high temperature in philadelphia. the record for tomorrow's date 90 degrees set back in 2002. we're forecasting a high of 85 for all the little bunnies and chicks out there. so o-it is going to be a warm easter, sunny and mild, 7 o'clock hour 62 degrees, a beautiful morning as we head into the second half of the

day, a few more clouds developing, windy conditions very warm with those temperatures climbing up into the middle 80's. we have a chance at seeing a late day shower or a thunderstorm developing but future weather showing us as we head throughout the overnight period maybe a very stray shower waking up to sunshine for tomorrow morning, great brunch conditions but then as we head into the second half of the day, do see this broken line of showers and few embed thunderstorms starting to work into our western counties pushing eastbound. this model predicting around 6 o'clock i-95 core do. we could see another second round as we head into the late evening and into the overnight period as well. again, these are going tock pretty spotty in nature but keep an eye to the sky just in case. a late day thunderstorm possible in the poconos. for easter windy and warm 75 degrees. very similar conditions down the shore with sunshine. we wait for the evening to see the best storm chance. 74 degrees and breezy on monday with sunshine. cooler and pleasant by tuesday, 65 degrees but that's right around average for us and then looks like we do have

one on for that cesar hernandez and he took former phils joe blanton deep over the right field wall for a two run homer. fightans back in the lead. the new closer joaquin benoit got ryan zimmerman to pop out o phillies win four-two and here's joaquin on how to deal with being the closer. >> well, i believe it's a little bit more tension but for me i treat it the same way as the eighth inning. not trying to do too much t-you know, try to minimize the damage. >> calm under pressure. well, for the second time in the last four years the sixers could have the nba rookie of the year. joel embiid and dario saric are the favorites to take home the award. the sixers waited two years for dario to come over from turkey and he was worth the wait. after sixers tradedders sign ilyasova to the hawks dario averaging 17 points and seven boards in the final 25 games

of the sixers season. but gm brian colangelo says they want another power forward who can shoot the three. >> but we're going to keep looking for shooters and guys that hopefully can dollar other things, defend, run, you know, stretch the floor, open things up. i think the stretch four position is something, you know, backing up dario or starting in front of dario, whichever it is, if we can find someone that's better, we've got to, you know, probably address that four position. >> and maybe some playoffs in the future. in the meantime, the nba playoffs game one between the defending champions cavaliers and the pacers under 10 seconds left, cavaliers holding on to a one point lead, pacers with the ball, cj miles gets the pass and it is a no-go. his jumper no good. the buzzer sounding cleveland holding on for the victory 109-108. so who will be the starting goalie next season for the flyers? michal neuvirth steve mason or

anthony stolarz? neuvirth was signed a two year extension earlier this year but could be exposed in the expansion draft. steve mason could become a free agent in july. earlier this week he complained that the team didn't declare a true number one goalie. and having a platoon system doesn't work. gm ron hextall who knows something about the position disagrees. >> you have to have two goalies. i mean, look what happened to that montreal last year. it's -- the games are too many competitive. you don't win games without really good goaltending and if you have one guy and he plays 70 games, there's going to be a few games there where he doesn't perform up to his best and you can't afford that anymore. >> ron hextall speaking from experience. >> yes, thank you so much joe. very good to have you here on sports. >> indeed. >> still to come a mom is taking her walk to school very, very seriously and her sons wouldn't have it any other way. >> i try to do things like that with them all the time.
