a rowan university officer is struck by a car, and how it happened, and how that officer is doing this morning. hit and run on the busy street in upper darby puts a child and her grandmother in the hospital, what police said led to the chase that resulted in that hit and run. a celebration of easter, tens of thousands gafferd at vatican to celebrate it with the pope. today is sunday, april 16th, happy easter everyone i'm jan carabao. feeling like summer to day for all of your outside activities so lets get over to meteorologist justin drabick with the eyewitness weather forecast. good sunday morning. >> good morning. >> just a great day to celebrate this holiday. >> you can feel the difference little muggy, so you will

maybe be a little uncomfortable. not used to it. one day event we are talking about highs in the 80's. good timing on easter sunday. tonight maybe some rain chances and thunderstorm but most of the day should stay dry. we have church services, easter egg hunts this morning it looks gooding across the dell wear valley. we are waking up to cloud and fog but those should thin out and we will see decent amount of sunshine. lets look live at center city. setting up for a nice sunrise in 20 minutes or so. up to 61 degrees. big difference from the upper 40's from yesterday. look at that dew point, that tells us humidity in the air. it is middle of the summer dew point of 58 would be awesome. april, it is a little bit on the high side. we will feel that difference, there as far as humidity. fifty in allentown. sixty-one in philadelphia. everybody is on the mild side already this morning. even suburbs, we were in the 30's yesterday at this time. we are in the lower 50's for pottstown, 54 in quakertown. just a head up a few areas of

patchy fog, not seeing a whole lot of that widespread right new but look at lancaster less than a mile visibility. we may run into that this morning. storm scan three is quiet, maybe a sprinkle, far northwestern, up in the poconos this morning in the afternoon but most of the rain chances will held off until after sunset tonight. this is what we are dealing with today. sun, cloud, feels like july with highs in the mid 80's. little bit on the breezy side, and watch out for late day afternoon evening thunderstorm north and west of philadelphia here's your easter planner. by 9:00 temperatures in the 70 's in the sunshine. afternoon on our way up to 85 degrees. 20 degrees above average for philadelphia, even the shore getting close to 80 today, mid 70's in the poconos. there was a cool down toward middle of the upcoming week with more rain chances and we will time it out in a few minutes, jan, back to you. police are investigating an accident in glassboro, new jersey, that sent one person to the hospital, and "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh is live at cooper

university hospital this morning with the very latest details, anita. >> reporter: good morning, jan we have learned that the person involve in the rowan university police officer, take a look at video from the accident scene. glass blow police say a passing car hit the officer, on the 300 block of mullica road, around 10 last night on route 322. officers enclosed off at year between girard and heston road while they investigated. authorities are not releasing that officer's name. that is very latest from cooper university hospital in camden, anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". keep us up to date. new this morning police are investigating an overnight shooting at the roxy nightclub in philadelphia police were called out to the club on north delaware avenue right around, 2:30 this morning. we are told victim's leg was grazed by a bullet, officers took care of that victim and treated him for minor injuries police are searching for a gunman and motive. also new this morning a

woman is in critical condition after she shot in the chest in the cities kensington section. this shooting happened at 700 hilton street, and officers got the call shortly after 1:00 this morning and rushed the 24 year-old victim to the hospital. at last check police are still looking for a suspect and no known motive at this time. police are also investigating a shooting in fair hill that put three men in the hospital. that gunfire erupted at hope and cambria streets around 9:00 last night. a 28 year-old man was shot twice, another 28 year-old man was shot five times, both are now in critical condition, this morning. a 24 year-old man is in stable condition and shot in the stomach. so far no arrest. in the cities mantua section a carries shot up, and shell casings littered the ground there. this was all found in the 3800 block of mount vernon street, we're told a call came in around midnight but when police arrived to that scene no one was in or around that car. investigators are looking for

a suspect anyone with any information is asked to call the philadelphia police department. it started as police round up of illegal dirt bikes and a tv's in philadelphia and it continued in upper dash which a police chase that ended in a hit and run. now a six year-old little girl and grandmother are in the hospital. police tell us a person of interest is in custody. "eyewitness news" report's leash a nieves brings us up to date during this investigation >> reporter: police pursuit of the dirt bike riding illegally in the street ended up with a six year-old girl and her grandmother getting caught in the cross hairs. >> they were just on the sidewalk and come out getting ready to cross the street and that is when that happened. >> reporter: dirt bike being chased out of philadelphia at some point crossed in to upper darby and barreled down the busy 69th street. it was passing cars, by ride ago long the double yellow line in the middle of the road , near a pedestrian crossing, the dirt bike slammed into the child, and then her grandmother. >> they went flying in the air

and then he flew off the bike. >> reporter: dirt bike driver seemingly unfaced left a six year-old girl and grandmother in the middle of the street and continued to try and evade authorities. >> the operator of this motor vehicle gets off of it, with a knife and pulled a knife out a carjacks a a vehicle. >> reporter: that vehicle was abandon a few blocks away and driver managed to flee again. >> for us, a lot of people are coming forward to say what they saw. hopefully we will get the perpetrator. >> that could have been my family. people on these dirt bikes they don't care about protection or anything like that because we are down the street. >> reporter: upper darby police say they have a person in custody but they are just questioning. he was found in the wooded area not far from where the stolen car was abandoned but so far no charges have been filed against him. after that six year-old and her grandmother the six year-old is listed as income very serious condition, the grandmother is in stable

condition. in upper darby, alycia nieves for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". now, police were trying to stop that dirt bike, as part of the larger round up of atv, here's a look at some vehicles police seized. we are told officers took 30, atv's off the street and made three felony arrests. new this morning, a power outage in philadelphia's fishtown section leaves thousands of people in our area in the dark. crews are working to restore complete power in that area. the lights went out just before midnight. we are told outage knocked out the lights for 10,000 customers there and at last check in word on what caused the power outage. well, pope francis is delivering his easter message and blessing to the world. we are looking at st. peters square at vatican city where tens of thousands as tended mass. they are now awaiting his blessing, traditionally performed from the balcony at st. peters square. crowd braved headed security checks to catch a glimpse of the leader of the catholic church. that security was already

deployed in holy week ceremonies including armed police position on rooftops and metal detectors. archbishop charles chaput celebrated easter vigil mass last night at cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul right here in philadelphia. the mass involved the services of light, liturgy of the word, lit turningry of baptist many and eucharist. many people preparing to enter the church became full members on the night before easter, but about a sill case holding five more masses today. and priests, blessed easter food baskets at you'd crane cathedral catholic cathedral of the immaculate conception in northern liberties there were prayers and traditional ukraine singing during the special services. father roman petilla will deliver a message of peace and joy during services today. in other news this morning , vice-president mike pence has arrived in south korea at start of the 10 day

trip to asia. his visit, comes amid tour mile over north korea's trips to advance its nuclear and defense capabilities this weekend north korea held a massive parade to show off its military might, hours later, its latest missle launch was unsuccessful. pentagon says missle blew up almost immediately. there is no word on what kind of miss that was. protesters gathered in philadelphia, and across america, calling on president trum top release his income tax returns. dozens marched down market street, they also held a rally at city hall, the demonstration coincided with the traditional deadline for filing income taxes. this year, however, the deadline is on tuesday because april 15th felon a saturday and is there a holiday in washington d.c. tomorrow. protesters say the president owes the country the highest level of transparency. chicago hosted a similar rally, the president says he

arkansas is appealing a federal judge's decision to block execution of eight inmates before the end of this month. governor asa hutchinson scheduled the executions before the state's supply of a

lethal injection drugs, expires in, two weeks. inmates filed legal challenges to the timetable and state's use of midazolam which has been used in botched execution ness other states. investigators are trying to pinpoint exactly what caused a six alarm fire that left 200 people homeless in passaic, new jersey. fire started yesterday afternoon and quickly spread smoke and flames throughout the apartment building. chief there says the fire appeared to have started on the fifth floor, throughout the day there were multiple collapses on that floor and authorities are worried that the whole building will collapse n1 was seriously hurt during that fire. but for now displaced residents are sheltered at a nearby high school. fire fighters in delaware county are training to keep you safe and they hope to attract more volunteers, to their ranks. reliance, hook and ladder company hosted a burn practice drill in west chester. fire fighters used a hose, ladder and other skills to put that fire out. delaware county fireman's association is sounding the

alarm about the shortage of volunteers, this was part of the county wide effort to boost the ranks. it is now zero seven years since jackie robinson broke the color barrier in major league baseball and people in philadelphia are remembering that historic moment. dozens, gathered at the philadelphia stars, negro league memorial park for jackie robinson day celebration. they talked about the legacy robinson leaves behind, and how he is still inspiring the future. >> just perseverance, they can learn the idea of act aisle looking at surrounding and bright side of things and jackie did that. even the philly fanatic was there to help honor the baseball legend. eagles quarterback carson wentz has a problem and hoping you can help him, solve it. wentz posted this picture on twitter that he got in the mail from a young fan, only problem is, wentz dog chewed up the envelope, it was

dot math, put this in the mid 80's, no problem, reaching the mid 80's for inland spots today especially with the sunshine now. it can get in the 90's. we have had. that record highs, we would be beat to go day. wilmington 92. trenton 91. ninety for philadelphia. allentown and reading. i don't think we will get that hot but 85, that is in the bad for this time of the year. already we're off to the races check out these numbers. we will go to the south, georgetown delaware sussex county 68 degrees. sixty-five in the capitol city of delaware. even at the shore pretty mild so far, low, 60's, in mid 60's for inland spots here at the airport, and even temperatures at the shore today well in the 70's getting close to 80 with that southeasterly, westerly breeze. and even around the city right now upper 50's, 40's, new jersey, mullica 56. sixty-one at the airport. suburbs feeling the warmth already, ambler at 51. fifty in allentown. even lehigh valley will be well in the 80's today. couple of spotty showers this morning, and this will stay

north/northwest, so maybe poconos, couple sprinkles early today but the main chance or at remain threat for some, heavier showers and storms will be later on tonight, again, majority of that will be to the north and west of the cities because of the cold front, that is passing on by. out ahead of the front we will clear these skies up a little bit, early afternoon, decent sunshine we will be warmth, still dry, not much showing up on our forecast model but in the evening hours after sunset you can see heavier showers breaking up, a few thunderstorms possible especially in the lehigh valley north ward, it is possible a shower or two gets in the city during the overnight hours but those should be gone by the time we wake up monday morning, but maybe they are lucky to have the day off tomorrow, even heading back to work morning ride goodies monday morning, waking up to some cloud cover, that should thin out and then we will have sunshine for monday afternoon. look at these temperatures in the 80's surging up to the north, into the lehigh valley, poconos, well in the 70's, and a little bit of the breeze, turning out of the south, right along the new jersey shore, coast, and delaware

is live on the cbs-3 sky deck with eyewitness weather. it will be a warm one, today, isn't it. >> perfect for easter sunday. nice, colorful to head outside right now. more on the humid side compared to what it has been past few days, you will note that is but if you like it warm you'll love this forecast today easter throughout the day mainly dry, tonight we could run in the chance for a shower or thunderstorm in some spots, it will not be widespread. right now sunrise happening. cloud thinning out nicely. few areas of left over fog over next hour but big difference is temperature as soon as you step outside. check out change in the numbers, compared to this time yesterday, 12 degrees warmer in philadelphia, 24 in millville, new jersey. that is the huge change there. we have this warm air mask pumped in as that warm front came through last night. already 61 in philadelphia. sixty-two in millville. fifty-six in wilmington, delaware. look at mount pocono, at 60 degrees. sunshine will rapidly warm us up in the 70's.

security checks at st. peters square for a glimpse of the leader of the catholic church. later in his easter message he told a crowd that when people are mastered by sin they stray like lost sheep. pope added that god comes in search of those lost sheep. security is tight for easter services at two egyptian church's tacked by terrorist on palm sunday day. police officers are checking pedestrians and blocking off road in that area authorities say religious minorities are increasingly targeted by extremist there. tensions continue to rise between north korea and u.s. north korea attempted to launch a missle only to have it backfire. back here at home mourn 100 protest where is held nationwide on is what normally tax day protesters were demanding president trump release his tax returns. wendy gilette has more from new york. >> reporter: north korea

showed off its military might at a parade celebrating the 105th birthday of its founding ruler on saturday but country was less successful when it made good on a vow to test a missle. u.s. military confirmed an unidentified missle launched sunday morning local time on the east coast of the country blew up almost immediately. at the parade north koreans showed off for the first time an inter continental ballistics missle, unsuccessful lawn dutch not involve that type of missle. vice-president pence is visiting the region this weekend. president trump is spending easter weekend at his mar-a-lago estate in florida where he was briefed on the launch protesters and supporters of the president's squared off in berkley, california on saturday. on is what usually tax day, april 15th, demonstrators demand that had president trump release his tax returns. trump supporters john beaver says he was attacked. >> well, they want to hit me with knuckles on the blind side. we're here for free speech. they want confrontation.

>> reporter: couple protesters set american flags on fire and more than a dozen people were arrested: more peaceful protests held in dones of cities in the country including washington, orlando and new york where tens of thousands took part. protesters here in new york city marched to trump tower shutting down parts of the midtown manhattan to traffic. >> i'm here because i want donald trump to release his taxes. >> reporter: what do you think that will reveal. >> maybe ties with russia. >> reporter: protest targeted president's repeated trips to florida. wendy gilette for cbs news, new york. well, today marks 10 year anniversary of the deadly school shooting at virginia tech, april 16th, 2007 a senior student at the college opened fire, killing 32 students and professors before fatally shooting himself. there was a memorial in place on campus including a stone for each victim. members of the virginia tech community say visiting that memorial is a sobering

experience. >> i have a child here, you know, and put myself in the shoes of the parents back then , what would it be like to be getting that call. >> it makes you think like wow , that was yesterday but it also seems like we have also grown so much since that day. >> reporter: the school also has a collection called sending you all our love, a selection of flags, bobbers, signs from the 90,000, that poured in from around the globe showing school support during that tragic time, shooting is considered to be one of the war in u.s. history well, folks down in northern texas have a lot of cleaning up to do after a string of powerful, tornadoes, ripped through the area and tore homes apart. the intense storm moved in friday night wreaking havoc and leaving destruction in the path. one family lost their born while another lost most of their house. one resident said his dad was at his house so he and his wife went over to his dad's house to take care of his dog, when the tornadoes touchdown.

>> i saw several little won passing around here to the south and we looked over and there was a great big one coming over to the house right next to us right beside it. >> he says that they took cover in the basement and are lucky to be alive, and national weather service is estimating a five tornadoes, rather hit the region, this severe storm brought damaging hail, flooding to some areas, thankfully, in injuries were reported. back here at home now, police in newark are looking for a man wanted for several groping incidents on the university of delaware's campus. all of the attacks happened within the 90 minute span on friday night. police say that the man grabbed two female student, two other women called police when they noticed a man following them. suspect is described as a hispanic or white man in his 20's about 5-foot seven with a beard. well, septa police chief isn't backing down after vandals tagged two of the transit agency's vehicles overnight friday into saturday septa says that the cars were parked at district seven
