live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. well, a man is sitting in his basement when an s.u.v. suddenly crashes through the wall of his philadelphia home overnight. we'll tell you where it happened and about the injuries that man suffered. the philadelphia fire department is discussing the results of an internal review today watch federal investigators say is to blame in the death of lieutenant joyce craig in 2014. and it is time to pay up tax day is here. we'll tell you five things you can do if you're filing taxes today to make sure you check to uncle sam without a problem. >> i'm jim donovan. >> i'm sullivan, rahel solomon. >> katie, good to have you back, meisha, always good to see you. >> welcome back, so looking outside, actually, we have

quite a few things going on. couple of accidents overturned tractor trail, bun of of construction, guardrail lighting, a bunch of stuff. >> thankfully no weather-related issues. looking like pretty quiet start to the day. we've had clouds rolling through, a will the chillier despite the blanket of cloud cover. temperatures generally ten to 15 degrees colder compared to this same time yesterday. looking to storm scan, yes, do you have couple of clouds, at least dry, no residual showers at all at this point. and things are going to clear out nicely as the day progresses but here you go. look at this. up in mount pocono area almost 20 degrees colder that n this same time yesterday. here in philly, at least this observations, it is the least different, i guess could you say shear, but definitely noticeably cooler out there. actually did break out my winter coat this morning. so depends where you are, just how cool it will be at the onset, at the airport anyway, it is technically still pretty mild. these values are going to drop off pretty readily now that the skies are clearing out even more so.

50 degrees temperature currently in atlantic city, only in the 30's in the poconos. don't do too much more than the mid 60s in terms every daytime highs today. leveling off with the values on the thermometer as the day goes on, but time everyone brightens up nicely for more and more sunshine. actually ended up meisha with beautiful afternoon yesterday. despite the start of the day with the clouds and the rain. today it is nothing but dry weather and very pleasant weather that the. >> good. even though we have the 60s, not the 70s, still dry. we'll take it. absolutely, thank you so much. looking outside, like i said, sitting up at the desk, weaver a lot of stuff going on. overturned tractor trailer in bordentown new jersey, new jersey turnpike northbound past route 206. right now just the right lane blocked. right now that's what we're dealing with. heads up if you are just moving out to the area even though it is still earl at this could pose problem for us. we have construction route one northbound oxford valley all lanes blocked. you have to exit off oxford valley and re-enter on oxford valley there. construction 95 both directions north and south

between the blue route and 320, right lane is block there. then also dealing with some guardrail repairs on the blue route northbound near broomall, left lane blocked there. now we are talking about couple of other accidents going on, one in norristown, one in maine street, fourth street, 40-foot road, sumneytown pike, heads up on, that plus the platt bridge, lighting crew blocking the left rain. a lot more to talk about if you can believe that coming up in the next ten minutes, rahel, over to you. >> meisha, thank you. new this morning, man being treated for minor injuries his suv crashed into the home on of oakmont street in holmesburg. investigators say the man in the basement suffered cuts to his face. the driver remains on the scene. so far police made no arrests. >> the philadelphia fire department will reveal mindings from its internal review today explaining what led to the death of one of their own. lieutenant joyce craig died battling west oaklane house fire in december of 2014. new federal report just released says the intense heat burned through craig's

breathing equipment. officials also found fault with how craig's colleagues responded to her seven emergency distress signals, the fire department has since made some changes. they say breathing equipment has been updated. battalion chief also now stationed dispatch sent tears improve communication and the role of safety officers have been created. >> widow of direction wear correctional officers and other hostages held during uprising will review details of federal lawsuit. steven floyd killed during inmate take over at the vaughn correctional center smear smyrna. three maintenance workers hid in the basement, and last friday a vaughn correctional officer was assaulted after another officer told inmates to stop violating the no talking rule during dinner. there were no injuries in that case. well, happening today, sentencing for the montgomery county man convicted in the shooting death after fellow church member. mark storm was convict of voluntary manslaughter and

wreckless endangerment in the shooting death of 27 year old robert braxton. storm shot and killed braxton, in april 2016 inside the keystone fellowship church in montgomery township after a fight. storm's claimed the shooting was a kates of self-defense. but a jury disagreed. also today, jury selection begins for the trial of 23 year old david creato, prosecutors say creato killed his three year old son, brendan, in october 2015 then reported him missing, the jury expected to visit the spot where little brendan's body was discovered in cooper river spot. >> ohio, community holds a vigil to remember the victim of so-called facebook killer. >> ♪ >> dozens turned out for a vigil at the spot where robert goodwyn senior was gunned down on sunday out checking cans after speeding easter with his family, balloons and stuffed

tags. >> in other news this morning, investigation is underway after a construction work finds burned body inside shuttered restaurant in northeast philadelphia. contractors made the disturbing discovery yesterday afternoon around 2:30 at old sushi restaurant. the sushi kingdom on the 400 block of franklin mills circumstance hell been boarded up for some time. investigators say the owner hadn't been to the property since january. it is unclear how long the body was in that building. >> well, dover man faces drug charges this morning after authorities found thousands of bags of heroin in his car. this is deaf ron powell, police pulled him over monday morning for routine traffic stop. when officers searched powell's car they found more than 5,000 bags of heroin just over gram of marijuana and a thousand dollars in cash. >> well, as we've been reminding you, today is deadline to file your income tax returns. to make sure it meets the deadline us postal service reminds to you send it early, little late now, if the package ways more than 13-ounce it is does have to go to post office clerk to comply

>> back on "eyewitness news," arkansas death row inmate still alive, supposed to be excused overnight, but u.s. supreme court ruling kept stay of execution in place. that stay was issued by an arkansas state court. if the execution had moved forward it, would have been the first in arkansas since 2005. the state is trying to put eight inmate to death over 11 days. that is because its supply of one of the three lethal injection drugs is set to expire soon. the drug is connected to botched executions in four state. the governor of arkansas said in a statement overnight the justice has been delayed again and that the state will continue to fight.

>> a co-pilot for southwest airline arrested in new york for caring a loaded gun in his carry on bag. tsa made the discovery yesterday morning at albany international airport. when the x-ray machine at the check point detected a gun. arrested pilot on weapons charge, it delayed the flight for about four hours. >> virginia school district reviewing its security policies after student attack several other classmates with a stun gun. police say the student got the stun gun through metal detectors at thomas jefferson high school monday morning. one of the student says the detectors were not being monitored at the time. female student made threats on facebook sunday night. >> father makes exotic discovery at a park outside of last vegas? looks like duck pound has unwelcome visitors. take a look at the razor sharp teeth. steven simms says he first spot add piranha in the water only to find another dead one on the sidewalk. one wildlife expert says it is not uncommon for these

we actually have what looks to be somewhat of a showery stretch. i don't think any day is a wash out. but there is a larger storm system that's going to eventually be moving eastbound and have some heavy thunderstorms in the dakotas, minnesota, part of the next system that is headed our way. with time, we will see some showers picking up here as early as wednesday, then specially into the tail end of the week. so jump you to future weather to 4:00 p.m. today. reason being, we don't have much to look at up until that point, even the rest of tonight, things looking very clear. nothing but sunshine to enjoy. then start to see the clouds rebuilding here. call p martially sunny for the most part tomorrow. granted moisture that tries to lift n but guys, i think you will get away without the umbrella tomorrow. there will be a shower around, that's it, so wednesday, not a huge deal with any wet weather. looks like the showers will become little more numerous wednesday, bulk of the moisture pent up off to the north and west, by friday, fresh round of showers that move in again larger storm system that will be headed

>> welcome back, we overlook the vine street expressway in the distance, from central parkway library camera. things looking pretty quiet out there. it generally looks clear. technically little bit of vale of cloud cover, little cloud deck actually moving out right now, though, so, even though it is already cooler, by comparison, than it was this same time yesterday, you are actually going to see the temperatures drop off a lot more readily where the skies have cleared out. so with that said, the temperatures are generally going to be bottoming out to the 40's, but i know many of

>> we all are. katie and meisha keeping an eye on things. >> that wander woman bracelet on. >> i do. i think it is broke em. my super powers aren't activating because in the world of travel this morning, nothing but havoc so far. we have overturned tractor-trailer, accident out, there construction, lighting crews the whole bit. >> at least the weather is quiet. that's helpful. i think sun glare could become an issue specially for folks in the northwest suburbs, once the sun does rise later this morning, but generally speaking really looking at very quiet weather today. nice low humidity. cloud deck that had been out there moving out to our southeast at this point, wind flow also beginning to shift more northeast err at thely with time here. again, the went flow, not so much the actual wind picking up, that is going to be changing out there. but, even despite more after on shore flow, we are going to end one more sun than anything. that's going to keep things have, very pleasant for your mid-april day here. so feeling like it should, in short, high pressure is to thank for it.
