>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. oh, boy, tracking some showers this morning, but we could see some thunderstorms by tonight. storm scan3 showing a line of rain heading our way. katie is watching your weekend forecast. >> new this morning, wild scene in one philadelphia neighborhood. gunfire breaks out sending bullets wizzing in every direction. one every them struck a bed. just inches away from a sleeping man. >> also, overnight, in paris, re-opening hours after deadly terror attack, we've got the latest on who is now claiming responsibility, plus find out how the country is preparing for this sunday's presidential election. today is friday, april 21, good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm jan carabeo in for rahel solomon. katie and meisha are keeping

an eye on things this morning, we made it to friday. >> we made it to friday. and it feels like it has been a long week. and we're starting offer right at 4:00 in the morning with a very serious accident we were talking about. we will get to that coming up in a minute. >> actually as you saw, wet weather to deal, with as women. so the northwest most suburbs are at this point the wet spot. you do have pretty soaking rain. i have seen some doppler indication of lightning out there, as well, especially up near the poconos, south of allentown, look closely, but have been few strikes within those yellow bands of rain moving through here. with time, this is going to cross through the entire region, some of you could get doused briefly at least through the morning, but this is our cold front. at least the leading edge of it moving through. so we should start to see skies clear out at least a little bit as the day goes on, we do think we could still end up with residual shower, thunderstorm toward evening. so it is another unsettled day for the delaware vale. with less than ideal timing. we had pretty good timing yesterdayment meanwhile, currently in the low or mid 50's generally speaking, region wide, 55 dover for

example, 54 millville. as the day progresses we will eventually heat back up to the 70s here, but again cold front. will be cool air start to catch up to us. meanwhile, here is just sort of the bullet point for you for the rest of the day. there will be at least some sunshine into the afternoon, but watching for the showers, thunderstorm, and again this evening, scat nerds nature toward evening, rest of the overnight promises to be generally just overcast. >> thank you so much. good morning, everyone, so, this is what i was just talking about up at the desk, very serious accident happen overnight. the result after police chase, in bristol bucks county, 95 north, at route 413. so this is the live shot of what you are working with right now going out there. again, it happened around 2:00 . you're being diverted off route 413, which is exit 40. if you want to avoid the area and take alternate, bristol pike, route one probably your best bet. i would advise just to avoid the area altogether, because this looks already like it is starting to get very busiment only going to get busier push through the 5:00 hour.

heads up again, 59 north, route 413, being diverted offer route 413 or exit 40. again, my advice, i would just avoid the area. because it will be slow around there. then also talking about construction, route one southbound oxford valley, all lanes blocked, exiting off okay forward valley, re entering on oxford valley. you guys are getting used to. that will construction northeast extension southbound past quakertown right lane blocked there. and then also in the world of mass transit, heads up, talking about this coming up in a little bit. but check your schedules on line. jim and jan, back over to you. >> thank you, meisha. new this morning, quick moving fire damaged this home in the city lawncrest neighborhood. firefighters called out to the 500 block of east cheltenham avenue just before 3:30 this morning, able to get the fire under control in a short time. fortunately, no one was injured, so far no word on what sparked that blaze. >> well, police are questioning two men in connection to shooting overnight in north philadelphia. one of the bullets flew through a man's window and struck his bed. >> another man was hit by the

gunfire, "eyewitness news" reporter trang do live at einstein medical center where that victim is being treated. good morning, trang. >> good morning, jan, jim, that 29 year old man in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his left arm, shoulder and torso. he arrive here at einstein by private vehicle before police even arrived to the scene. now, police say these shooters were firing so recklessly, almost hit a man inside a nearby home. but take a look at this video of the scene in ogontz, overnight. just after 11:00 p.m., operation remembers patrolling in the area, when they heard gunshots near 15th and conlin, they returned to the scene, they found no victim there, but they did find some 20 spent shell casings. now the they also saw car rushing away from that intersection, police were able to follow that car, and they say they saw people toss to two guns outside of the window, police able to recover the semiautomatic guns, officers finally able to stop the car near 21st and grange, took two people inside the car for questioning. now back over at the shooting

scene, police discovered a stray bullet went through the window after second floor bedroom after home on the corner. just narrowly missing a man sleeping inside. and hitting his bed post. take a listen. >> that just missed the male who was sleeping in that bed, by about a foot. so that individual is extremely lucky. had he been sitting up, or if when he heard the gunshot, which he did, if he would have got out of bed, and look out his window, there is good possibility he could have been struck by gunfire. >> while police are questioning the two persons of interest, also questioning two people who brought that shooting victim here to einstein. but for now, liver outside einstein medical center. i'm trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news," jan, jim, back to you. >> thank you, trang for that update. >> youth soccer coach in south philadelphia is facing some disturbing ac ooh saying cents this morning. >> police say the coach sexually assaulted and fathered a child with one every his 14 year old players. police say it all started when

the suspect, 39 year old francisco prado, got a girl, the girl a job, through his cleaning business. instead of cleaning, police say, he forced the girl to have sex with him for money. officials now reminding parent to be on alert. >> ask a lot of questions, you know, before they sign their kids up, they should also comings make sure they're there all the time, don't just blindly trust anybody to turn your kids over to, always show up. just don't have blind fate in anybody. >> prada has been suspended indefinately from all parks and recreation facilities and activities, he is facing statutory sexual assault and other charges. >> philadelphia police are investigating another assault on the schuylkill river trail. a woman says a group of eight to ten teens on bikes swarmed her on that trail just after 5:30 saturday evening, while she was exercising. she tells police one of the teens groped her, she spoke exclusively with "eyewitness news" about the assault. >> one of the boys who is probably no more than 12, 13

years old, road up next to me while i was on my roller blades and smack me on my behind. i immediately turned to the boy and i said that's. you're not allowed to do. that he responded ya you can't catch me. >> similar incidents last year sparked efforts to make the trail safer. the city increased lighting on the trail and is currently working on installing cameras. >> another assault incident now this one in princeton, new jersey, police say the suspect in this surveillance video walked to up a woman near moore and spruce streets last week and groped her. the suspect is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. anyone with information is asked to contact police. >> well, authority in france have launched an investigation into thursday's deadly terror attack in paris. officials say gunman opened fire on a police van, killing one officer, and wounding three other people, before police shot and killed him. hena daniels with the latest on the terror investigation. >> investigators raided home in suburb of paris overnight,

searching for clues into thursday's deadly attack, along the chelles, trying to determine one or more people may have played a role in the incident whether man armed with a automatic weapon opened fire at a police van along the iconic avenue. as panic restaurant goers hit the floor, one person used his cell phone to capture video of police confronting the suspect. >> i saw three guys come in a police audi, and shoot on the police. >> gunman killed at least one officer and wounded two other officers and female tour ills. before he was taken out by police. >> in a televised address last night, french president called the attack terror thinks nature, shortly before isis claimed responsibility. and identified the suspect as abu-yusef. >> a very, very terrible thing going on in the world today.

>> as the investigation continues to unfold, president trump expressed his condolences in from washington. speaking in indonesia this morning, vice president pence offered similar sentiment. >> we will not relent in our effort to ends terrorism and the threat it present to both of our people. >> the paris attack came a mid heightened security leading up to the country's presidential election this sunday. hena daniels, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> well, following a last minute supreme court vote, arkansas has conducted it first execution in over a decade. convicted murderer, ladel lee given lethal injection just before midnight. one of eight inmate that arkansas officials sought to execute before the lethal injection drug expired on april 30th. the u.s. supreme court handed down a five to four vote last night rejecting the inmate appeal to halt the execution. >> happening today, the penalty phase continues for the man convicted in the murder of pennsylvania state trooper. eric frein was convicted wednesday in the ambush murder

hours were filled with thought of family not football. hernandez was serving a life sentence for a 2013 murder and committed suicide in his prison cell days after he was acquitted of two more murders, investigators say hernandez chatted when long time fiancee until lockdown, then wrote three notes to family members, and then hung himself. those notes have not been made public, hernandez's brain is being donate today researchers doing work on the impact of concussions on former football players. >> well, speaking of football, new york giant quarterback eli manning is fighting back against accusations he he is involved in a sports memorabilia scam. denies any wrong-doing in the two time superbowl mvp insists his name will be cleared. >> i've never done what i have been accused of doing. i have no reason, nor have i ever had any reason to do anything that far nature. i've done nothing wrong, i have nothing to hide. >> now a civil racketeering lawsuit was filed last week against manning. it is scheduled for trial in september.

the new york post is reported that manning emailed giants equipment managers asking them for helmets that could pass for, quote, game used. >> new jersey governor chris christie offers the owner of the former revel casino an ultimatum. get your license or sell. during his radio show yesterday, the governor claimed the revel's current owner, glenn straub, has yet to obtain rimmed licenses g, christie says without it the casino will not open on his watch. recently announced plans to reopen portion of the casino in june under the new name ten. >> i don't think i'm going to give the wet area ten. >> i wouldn't. >> i'll give it like a four. >> okay? 4.5? >> i think that's actually quite fair. >> okay? >> yes, grading on a curve, i guess? >> yes. >> here is the thing, guys, this forecast has been real tricky ladiment seems like the systems start to develop out of no where, whereas we thought next wednesday,

tuesday, would be pleasant days, now appears disturbance across the mid-atlantic that will throw some showers our way. this unfortunately continues to be a busy pattern, as a result, which after the beautiful weather we've had as of late, that's casino every buzz kill. look at storm scan, do have rain currently working it way specially along i80. has been some lightning strikes associated with this, call it, showers, and steady rain as well as embedded thunderstorms in there, as well. but this is going to continue to work it way through. no one really immune to it, there will be damp travel. that's a front clearing out with time. there is also, how much, area of low pressure developing on the tail end of this front. eventually also shower or thunderstorm, that pops later this afternoon, especially this evening. that's where we actually sit in marginal risk, lowest of severe categorization, but could ends up with gusty local thunderstorm out of this possibly maybe even small size hail with anything that erupts, now, again, major threat, but worth mentioning

we've been dealing with overnight accident. so the overnight accident, actually, serious accident, bristol, bucks county, 95 north at route 413, happened around 2:00 a.m. just heads up you guys right now being diverted off at route 413 or exit 40. i would say this: avoid the area around that area. again, that's 95 north at route 413. i can tell you right now it is not looking good around that area. then looking in new jersey, 42 freeway northbound at creek road. as you approach 295, this is what you are working with, lots of headlight out there. overall this is fairly typical for a friday morning, i'm hoping to keep you here, get this, all the way until the 7:00. see what happens. sometimes on friday we get lucky it, will continue to stay like this. see what happens there. then also talking about some changes in the world of mass transit. i will be tweeting this information out. be sure check your schedules on line, especially those commuting over the weekends, coming up in the next ten minute or so, jan, over to you. >> meisha, thank you. now for look at the newspaper headlines from across our region.

impossible. we will show this thing four weeks at a time. they open the season at washington. then doug pederson visit his mentor, and andy reid and the kansas city chiefs. the chargers move to la. now the eagles get a trip to hollywood. in week six, the birds play the first of back-to-back prime time games when they visit carolina right here on cbs-3. then washington visit the linc on monday night football the broncos also taking on the eagles, that's on cbs-3 then the birds finally reach the bye week in week ten, after that, the first match up against the cowboys is on sunday night footballment on december 3rd, they visit seattle, probably toughest road game of the season. the likely stay on the west coast for a week, and take on the rams, in l.a., they host the raiders on christmas day, and close the season against the cowboys on new years eve. onto baseball, phillies open weekends series against the braves tonight in south philadelphia. highlight, at 11:00. that's all for sport, i'm don bell, have a great day.
