jan carabeo. jim donovan is off. good morning, jan, good to see you. >> and rahel solomon. keeping an eye on things this morning. >> good morning, we may it to friday. that gas main break, that is big one, yes, we will be talking about the closures coming up. actually a lot more to talk about coming up as well. >> unfortunate in that regard. it will be another hot day, too, so air conditioners will be getting, you know, a work out. yet again here today. let's take a look outside. we start things off by going out to storm scan3, at the moment, totally empty. technically is a loop. if you bling you might miss it, what rolled through in the last hour or so. all-in-all ends up being nice, bright, sunny day, hot again, also quite humid. those dew point are up there at the moment. generally in the 60s, remember, the lower that dew point, the drier the air. and, most, more specifically, the closer the number gets to the actual air temperature, the more humid it will feel. so, in short, just measure the amount of moisture content in the atmosphere. that's why it is such a good barometer, no pun intended,

for how it feels outside. here current temperatures again, low to mid 70s, up and down i-95, most everywhere else, 66 mount pocono, the cool spot of the pack. that's obviously quite mild, even there, to get things underway. so we are now up the and tee, going nine for yet another day. as long as we crack 90, that will give us three straight days of 90 or above. that will would officially make it a heatwave. so, q the kenny loggins, the heat is on. kenny loginess. >> would you know. >> tell me? it is glenn fry. how did i mess that one up? looking forward, it is hot fast. even by noontime, 86 already, meisha, so, another toasty day, later on, just spotty shower or under this earl storm out there, too. >> all right, sounds good, yes. ninety's, yikes. what we are talking about right now, yes, this big gas main break, we have live mobile three there in cherry hill. so, moments ago, it was actually shooting out of the grounds. they've now since capped it off a little bit. if i were you, i would avoid the area, where you are closed route 70 eastbound closed

curtis avenue. you will have to use alternate, park boulevard, route 38, going to be your best bet around this. you see crews are hard at work trying to get this for you. i'll let you know as soon as they pack up and move out of the way. route 70 eastbound still closed you will have to use those alternates. looking outside, we've got well actually first going to construction nearby, route 70 east and westbound. near cropwell road. one lane blocked until 6:00 a.m. i know it actually did clear yesterday right around 6:00 a.m. i'll confirm again today it does so, 95, headlights moving past academy, just the southbound side, headlights, keeping my eye on right now, maybe starting to build levels, ever so slightly, but really looking good there. construction 295 northbound onramp for 42, that's still closed, i'll let you know when crews will move out of the area as women, than regatta going on, closed until 7:00 p.m. saturday. use the alternates, schuylkill, mlk or ridge avenue, going to be your best bet. we will be talking more about this coming up in the next ten minute. jan, rahel, back over to you.

>> meisha, thank you. >> well, the driver in the deadly times square crash in new york city that killed one woman, and injured 22 other, is facing multiple charges this morning. >> and some student from saint cecelia in northeast philadelphia were just feet away from the chaos. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do live with what they have to say about the tragedy. good morning, trang. >> well, good morning, rahel, jan, around 9:30 last night when these student returned home, they said that they're counting their blessings, there are about 100 students, staff members, and parent, in times square, when this accident happened. fortunately, none of them were hurt. >> tight hugs, size of relief thursday night, as eighth graders from saint cecelia school returned home after a fieldtrip to new york city, they'll likely never forget. >> i seen like this lady screaming, and then i heard this car, and i got really scared, and my mom turned us around and i started running, and i was crying, making sure my friends were okay. >> panic and chaos ensued, after police say 26 year old

richard rojas plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in times square around noon. hitting 23 people. alycia, a 18 year old tour frist michigan, died of her injuries. >> i just saw this car coming out move where. >> parent chaperone saw the horror unfold. >> just accelerated. he wasn't stopping. and ran on the pavement, and i just saw people flying in the air like -- >> she rushed her group into nearby sephora store where staff comforted the children. the school says other parent helped the injuries. >> it was a mess. then we saw a car smoking. >> police say they do not believe this was an act of terrorism. rojas reportedly told investigators he was hearing voices and expected to die. a security guard tackled him to the ground after he hit a row of steel barriers. >> we're definitely blessed to make it out alive and our school is definitely blessed. we thank god for that. >> and witnesses said it a

periods that rojas was under the influence of something so he did pass a breathalyzer test. drug test results, though, are pending. but for now live in fox chase, trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news," jan, rahel, back to you. >> trang, thank you. amtrak engineer brandon bostian is free on bail this morning, that's him there, leaving jail, with his lawyer last night. the 34 year old turned himself in earlier in the day, was arraigned on charges in connection to the deadly 2015 amtrak crash, in port richmond. "eyewitness news" spoke to one of the passengers injured in the crash. >> it hurts to see people go to jail. but you know what? he changed people's lives. he ruined my life. >> we filed these charges in a attempt to seek justice for the victims. amtrak train crash. >> and bostian's bail was set at $81,000, he was released with a promise he will return to court next month. >> later today, president trump embarks on his first international trip, a as commander in chief. the trip comes a mid slew of bad headlines that have shaken the white house this week. correspondent weijia jiang

so now i'm not being perky, telling you that drivers that switch to progressive save an average of $548! whoo! i mean, whoo. >> back now on "eyewitness news," the san antonio fire department mourning the loss of one of their own. one firefighter died, two others were injured, white battling massive blaze at a gym last night. officials say 40 student and instructors were inside when the fire began. thankfully, they all made it out. investigators are now trying to figure out what sparked the flames. >> and a speeding pick-up truck leads police on chase through southern california.

several close calls as we see the driver here weaving in and out of traffic. police say the driver was wanted for stealing five car tires. eventually a police cruiser bumped the back of the truck causing it to spin out and crash. the suspect tried to make a run for it. we see him here. apparently quickly gave up. >> normally those things don't last very long. >> well it, has been a rough weather week for many in the midwest and southwest. >> to to say the least, tornados hit large stretch of the country in the last several days, as reporter andy rose tells us, some states in the west still getting spring snow. >> the national weather service confirmed series of tornados in texas, oklahoma, kansas, nebraska, and wisconsin, on tuesday. wednesday and thursday, saw second and third unwanted helpings of severe storms. there was also lightning, and downed power lines, and power outages. colorado even saw spring snow on thursday. and earlier in the week, may snow hit the see era.

and 85 year old man in lake geneva, wisconsin had very close call when a large tree fell on his house. >> we've had a lot of storms come through. but i never had one that scared me like that. i am thought god was coming down to get me. like that, see? so here i am. thank god i made it for another day. >> tornado killed one person, injured more than two dozens other, as it ripped through a mobile home park in northwestern wisconsin. resident got a full day of access to their property, for the first time thursday. >> nightmare. we're very lung i we didn't lose more lives. that's the big thing. a lot of people are hurt. a lot of people are in the hospital. >> another weather-related death, tuesday, in oklahoma, followed by yet another on wednesday, in iowa. andy rose, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> so funny, jan, just saying, i used to work in colorado, i don't miss it. >> don't miss it at all.

>> but i remember very well. >> and i know it seems foreign to us to hear about snow in may, but it is totally normal in places like the front range of the rockies. just kind of like their transition season what would be transition for us following spring, that's kind of when they get hit the hardest with those kind of weather phenomena. sorel interesting stuff. but the same storm system that ended up bringing severe weather even the snow actually going to be headed our way with time. i don't necessarily think dealing with more showers and thunder storm, monday ends the with the next rounds, but will be cold front passage here today that helps trigger shower or thunderstormment notice the atmosphere moisten up, firing up, some showers through the overnight, the heaviest rain, eye get drawn right back to iowa, missouri, again the beginning of a storm that will start to head our way into the next day and a half or so. make its full arrival on monday. but for now, it is a cold front that we will be contending with. it does bring about a pretty significant change for the weekend.

specifically, it is all about the temperature. much more comfort, as well, as that frontal boundery crosses through with little fanfare moisture wise, it certainly bridges with it plenty of cooler air, and drier air. so our temperatures are held back to the low or even mid 70s, so it is a little bit more seasonable, actual lay lot more seasonable, but also, with that lowering humidity, much more comfort for you. now, as we take you outside, it is a hazy start to the morning here. outside pleasant valley, middle and high school, 63 degrees at this hour in that location, but one of the coolest spots of the pack, guys, generally low 70s across much of the region as we speak. you can walk out the door without extra layer, no problem, and we will spike all the way to 90 degrees here today. spotty showers, thunder showers, fire up later this afternoon into the evening. then by tomorrow, sunday, while i can't totally rule out a shower saturday, all-in-all the weekend looks good, low 70s, more comfort, not bad. good timing, rain back in the forecast monday, meisha? >> absolutely, saturday, sunday, i got to say looks
