5:14 am
we have to think about that one. atlantic city is kicking off beach season, chopper three in ac last night at tropicana casino a dazzling fire works display in the unofficial start of summer, fire works at tropicana will continue all summer long too every saturday night. and earlier in the evening , there was a beach ball drop in boardwalk outside resorts to welcome summer. this is fourth year beach balls have let loose. that looks like a fun time. we have heard some complaints and vittoria's piece there about the weather but when we're not talking about a wash out but i'll take it. >> couple spotty showers here and there. it is warm, summertime feel, it will happen. i got to say it is fun to go down the shore. one of my favorite things if you are able to to get up early and see the sunrise. we have great pictures from atlantic city. check this out from our "eyewitness news" sky scan, looking out across ocean city. it is just a wonderful, morning to get up, a little
5:15 am
bit early. it is unofficial start to summer, long weekend, you want to sleep in but i suggest if you are up and down the shore, go out iron check out this sunrise. it looks fantastic. out there. temperature wise it is nice too. we are seeing temperatures at the shore points that are close to 60 degrees. it is a mild morning across the area, and should be a relatively nice day as well. looking through rest of our holiday weekend here we cannot rule out a shower or an isolated thunderstorm, i know folks, maybe a little hesitant with the weather but jan, like you said it is not a wash out. highs in the 70's and 80's, that is good news we are seasonal to above average with those 70's and 80's. getting up this morning we are waking up to breezy conditions and temperatures that were in the high 50's, so we're cooler in areas like lancaster, reading, allentown, mount pocono we are seeing mid to low 50's. we are cooler toward the
5:16 am
poconos but big change is just how calm, it is, we have again , wind yesterday in the morning 10 to 15 miles an hour , right now five or 10 miles an hour with 61 degrees in philadelphia millville, back toward atlantic city in the low to mid to close to upper 50's range but wildwood still 64 degrees here this morning. so as i said a mild start to the day down at the shore points a weise go through the morning hours we will see sunshine mixing with cloud cover in our future weather model here. overall a dry morning, that is good news, now we have, small chance for maybe a, spotty shower as we go through the afternoon, bigger concern is the increasing cloud cover. so, while again it is nice, quiet this morning with that nice sunrise, we don't have too much cloud cover it is more overcast as we go through the afternoon to go with those spotty showers but they will not be heavy hitters and widespread at all. now as we go later on tonight into our sunday morning, southern areas of the viewing area, that is where we could
5:17 am
get a chance for shower or isolated thunderstorm. that does include shore points from atlantic city back through sea aisle and long beach island, avalon, stone harbor, wildwood, cape may, bethenny, rehoboth beach, dewey as well we could get a shower or isolated thunderstorm tonight. by the time we get into tomorrow morning, most have the precipitation is gone. our sunday as a whole will be partly cloudy to mostly cloud a cross the entire area from the poconos down through center city out toward the shore points as well. you can see spotty showers popping up on sunday morning but that chance, again, very, very low and i think our future weather model here over doing that shower chance on the sunday morning. but on sunday night into monday here comes our next system, it is a cold front coming together late on sunday and sunday night into monday that pushes through and that will give us a shower or thunderstorm. jersey shore saturday, sunday in the too bad. we are going up to 75 at the shore on monday but
5:18 am
unfortunately a thunderstorm is in the forecast, for us here today we will go with 77 degrees in the afternoon, again, cloud will increase, spotty shower not totally ruled out, 60 degrees, and mostly cloudy dry and that 60 is above average. seventy-six for our high temperature on sunday with a nighttime shower pulling through with that cold front coming in. eighty-one then for monday and then we will be seeing more 80 's on tuesday, drying out on tuesday and wednesday, even thursday looking good, jan before another chance of a shower to develop by the end of that next week, so unfortunately just as we head back to work a lot of folks head back that is when we dry things out. >> matt, thank you. triple a predicts this is busiest travel weekend in more than a decade, an estimated 34.5 million americans will take long car trips and as our sister station, cbs two in new york reports that is a million more then last year. >> reporter: memorial weekend is war time to travel. it is just, you know,
5:19 am
congestion, i don't want to deal with that. triple a traffic expert kathleen lewis says this year may be more jammed packed then usual with an estimated 34 million people hitting the road. despite gas prices being 11 cents higher then they were last memorial day. >> we are seeing actually record travel numbers, most since 2005. a lot of it has to do with the fact that people feel better about the economy. they have a comfort in spend ago this extra money, they feel like they can take that extra trip and we are seeing that not just on the roadways but in the eras well. >> reporter: to be expected heavy signs heading in the holiday weekend as inevitable break lights illuminate, the hurdle you have to get over in order to kick off summer. >> when i say memorial day what do you think though. >> traffic. >> reporter: the glimpse of good times ahead air shows on the beach, parades, and time with the people that you love, which for many, makes all of the frustration behind the wheel, worth it. >> first week of the summer.

character you play this, you put a lot of yourself in. jack, captain jam is totally really doesn't care and just kind of a conn man. it is sort of like, it is licensed to be that way, and jugs to be stupid. >> what a horrible way to live >> welcome to bay watch. >> heart and soul of this very beach. >> reporter: bay watch when the beach community is threatened team leader mitch played by dwayne johnson and brody played by zach efron have to team up to save the day but keeping beach safe is more than slow motion running but about the action and laughs. >> what we want to do is make sure action was fun with bay watch. we want to make a movie fun but we want to make a move which great action but we had a secret weapon and secret weapon was that rated r platform of comedy, that can bring people in the theaters and have a great time. >> we will to have do bay watch the best. >> reporter: for entertainment tonight, i'm nancy odell now

overall a great morning. we could look for cloud cover this afternoon but again if you are up early this morning i suggest heading out and getting a look at a wonderful sunrise. temperatures cool. we have 53 in kutztown. fifty-three lancaster. mount pocono. allentown 56. sixty-one center city. fifty-nine to trenton. looking down the shore, wildwood at 64 degrees. we have a westerly flow down at the shore points. we have land breeze that keeps temperatures warmer, in the morning and that is exactly what we're seeing. fifty-eight is in atlantic city at this point. we are looking at our long who will take weekend for rest of today, relatively clear skies in the morning, included cover moves on in later this afternoon and we will be potentially watching this warm front sliding in tonight, maybe a stray shower or two could develop in southern parts of the area, so down near shore points we will go toward sea isle, avalon, stone harbor, cape may maybe a stray shower tonight but then for our delaware beach points too later this afternoon and then
5:47 am
tonight, be prepared it doesn't look like a wash out. not a night where you can't enjoy yourself but if you do head out this evening, again, south of the city take the umbrella with you. for the most part sunday afternoon not too bad but we will watch this next area of low pressure south of chicago with that big warm front pushing off to thee and that will bring us some showers as we go through the day on sunday and close to monday too but best chance for rain on sunday will be going to be in the late, late portion of the evening and mainly overnight into monday morning and then we will have a weak cold front , that is sweeping on through as we move through monday afternoon and it will wash out, as it moves in the delaware valley. central pennsylvania probably some showers, thunderstorm activity, stronger, more widespread but as that front kind of washes out and fade is a way closer to philadelphia we will see those showers chances, maybe diminished but we will still be watching for showers, thunderstorms and mostly cloudy skies for our memorial day itself, so kind of the quick recap here of our long holiday weekend we are
5:48 am
looking for areas of showers later on today but very, very spotty and very light, if we do see anything at all, don't are worrying it will be most likely a dry day to day, relatively nice sunday, temperatures comfortable and then overnight sunday and into our memorial day that is when we have our thunderstorm chance and weak front gives us a chance that could link inner to monday afternoon. 75 degrees for our philly game day 4:05 and spotty sunshine and rain shower activity. going in the poconos 69 today. sixty-seven tomorrow. mostly cloudy skies, showers and thunderstorm with a high of 68 on monday. high temperature today in the city, 77 degrees, cloud increase. tonight we will stay mild, 60 degrees for overnight low so jan, not too bad of a saturday, unfortunately we are watching for those thunderstorms toward end of the weekend. >> thanks, matt. with the memorial day weekend here and pools opening soon cdc is alerting families about a potentially dangerous
