he had two successful careers one on the baseball mound and other on capitol hill and this morning we remember jim bunning and why he meant so much to philadelphia. ♪ >> america's shows its try colors as it honors the fallen this memorial weekend. as most of you get an extra day off and probably spend it at the shore today looks good but what about tomorrow? today is sunday, may 28th, good morning, i'm jan carabao. lets get over to meteorologist matt peterson with the eyewitness weather forecast. good sunday morning, matt. how much sun will we see today good morning, yes, we will see at least a good amount of

sunshine early in the day. right now we're not waking up to quite as nice of a sunrise, few more cloud but overall it is a very nice start to our sunday. of course, not end to our weekend because we have that extra day tomorrow but some sunshine mixing with the cloud cover, little bit of fog developing across lehigh valley as well. this is bernville around reading area, junior/senior high school and it is a foggy start to the day, out in lehigh valley, 53 degrees, limited visibility. a change at the beach where lots of folks will be heading down to the beach this afternoon, those cloud are out there, not too many people out just yet but it should be a relatively good beach day. i talk about the fog, lancaster we have limited visibility, same as reading we saw that picture there, from bernville, afterward, allentown, mount pocono, less than perfect visability and gets better as we head back down toward the shore points there looking at ac back down

toward wildwood and perfect visibility. trenton a little bit of the light fog were 4-mile visibility. temperatures for the most part we're comfortable seeing plenty of 60's. we're getting an on shore flow and that means our shore towns are mild they are morning, but will stay cooler throughout the afternoon. fifty-four as we wake up in trenton. looking at that eyewitness weather day planner, 65 degrees for the high temperature, or excuse me for our 9:00 o'clock temperature. we will rise to 75. we do have some showers in the forecast, here we will talk about in just a little bit. >> okay, matt, we will check back with you. "eyewitness news" begins with breaking news this morning. house fire in north philadelphia has sent one person to the hospital, fire fighters rushed to the house there on north sixth street in westmontmont avenue right around 4:45 this morning. the victims treated, rushed to hahnemann hospital, and no word yet on the extent of injuries, and "eyewitness news" crew is gathering information on this fire and we will have more for you in our next half an hour.

new this morning a man is dead after he was chased and gunned down in the cities wynfield section. the shooting happened at north wilton and heston street. the victim was rushed to the hospital. he was pronounced dead a short time later. investigators are searching for surveillance cameras in that area there is no word on a motive or no arrests. an argument end in gunfire that send a man to the hospital. police say this shooting happened in the cities frankford section at torresdale avenue at bridge street. victim is expected to be okay, and at this time it is unclear what sparked that argument. meanwhile new jersey authorities are investigating an accident after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in willingboro township. we're told that the crash happened around 11:00 o'clock last night, pedestrian was rushed to the hospital, and no word on the victim's condition , at this time. phillies fans are mourning the loss of bates ball hall of famer jim bunning this morning moment of silence was held in honor of the former pitcher turned politician before last

"eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves have more on the man who played a central role in the phillies history. >> reporter: at 85, baseball hall hoff famer and phillies favorite jim bunning has passed. >> bunning was probably one of my favorite heroes growing up as a young kid. >> reporter: bunning was introduced to the world of the baseball in the 1950's but phillies fans, took notice and fell for side armed pitcher on kentucky at this moment at fathers day in 1964. >> a perfect game. perfect game. >> we discussed that perfect game many times with other fans, what he was doing. everybody knows where they were that day. >> i was 13 years old. i wanted to go someplace, and my father wouldn't let me go. he said you might never see a perfect game again. >> reporter: bunning cemented hits legacy in the major leagues with many more memorable moments during his 17 season career when he retired and was eventually induct in the baseball hall of fame, although, he pitched for

three other teams, he chose to honor the phillies wearing the team cap on his hall of fame plaque. >> i got to know him real well in 1971 because we had jim bunning day and we gave jim a volkswagen bus because the number of children he had. >> reporter: phillies chairman david montgomery was a good friend of bunning's and remembers him as a hall of famer beyond baseball, a hall of fame inner all areas of his life. >> jim bunning. >> jim was able to balance being a hall of fame baseball player were being a u.s. senator and also, incredible family man. it is a tough loss. >> reporter: jim bunning passed away from complications after a problem he had back in october. he leaves behind a wife of 65 years. nine children. thirty-five grandchildren and thousands and thousands of fans, who will miss him. outside citizens bank park, alycia nieves for cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

sad news this morning, greg allman, knew the blues both professionally and personally he died at his home near savanna, georgia greg and his brother gain were pioneers in the southern rock explosion in the 1907's forming the all man brothers band. live album at fillmore east put the group on the map and band members public battles with drugs and alcohol made headlines. allman's manager said he was battling liver cancer when he passed away. >> greg was a warm, kind, hearted southern gentlemen. he loved people. he loved animals. he was a pet lover. he loved music. he loved his fans. he really loved life and one of his greatest joys was being out on the road, playing music in front of the fans on a regular basis. >> allman recently cancelled his tour dates due to his health problems. greg allman was 69 years old.

president trump is back in washington after wrapping up his first foreign trip as command inner chief. first lady melania trump and president were greeted as they landed last night in maryland. cameras spotted the two as they exited air force one before boarding marine one to head to the white house. cbs news correspondent wendy gilette has more on the president's trip from new york >> u.s.a., u.s.a. >> reporter: president trump focused on fighting terrorism and increasing military spend nothing a speech to u.s. troops at a base in italy on saturday. >> we're going to have a lot of strength and we will have a lot of peace. we will buy the planes, the ships, vehicles, equipment you need to get your job done and to come home safe and sound to your families. >> reporter: it was president's final stop on his nine day overseas trip, his first since taking office. >> i think we hit a home run no matter where we are.

>> reporter: earlier saturday president trump joined other leaders in the g7 nations for a group photo, during the g7 summit the leaders held conversations with the president about climate change trying to convince him to stick with the paris agreement he tweeted that he will make a decision about the accord next week. mr. trump held no news conferences during the trip, unusual for a president on his first overseas journey but he made plenty of news chastising nato members for not spending enough money. >> twenty-three of the 28 member nations are still not paying what they should be paying and what they are supposed to be paying for their defense. >> reporter: president trump also signed a 110 billion-dollar arms deal in saudi arabia and became first sitting president to visit the western wall in jerusalem. he has no public events until monday when he will mark memorial day at arlington cemetery. wendy gilette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". americans are pausing to

remember their fallen heroes on this memorial day weekend. camden county honored memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and service to our country. volunteers placed american flags on each grave site at camden county veterans cemetery at harley on haddon avenue knew in cam den. >> it makes me feel great. it shows people still care. these people who we're honoring today have passed, and there is no better homage that you can pay to our fallen brothers and sisters then to respect them on this day. >> the cemetery there is final resting place of the hundreds of veterans, including more than 300 who served in the civil war. patriotic music filled independent mall, united states army fife and drum core entertained large crowd. they are the military's premiere musical organization. the core is the official ceremonial unit and escort for

"eyewitness news" reporter david spunt talked to one man in philadelphia who has made a career in picking juries. >> we will ask you a few questions and then explain to you why you are here. >> reporter: inside this center city office a focus group is underway, members of the group are pretending to be potential jurors in a high profile case, as the front of the room the jury whisperer, mark. >> i don't mind the term, you know, i think it is a complimentary term. >> reporter: he runs mag in a legal services and he has office's cross the country, his goal, learn as much as possible about a jury, months before court is in session. >> long before you hit the courtroom is where you win your case. >> reporter: gave his focus group a series of questions and they answer with these portable hand held control ertz. he tracks in real time, to see how jurors would react to a

juicy piece of evidence or outburst by a witness on the stand, in the hit cbs show bull a team analyzes a injury which similar high tech equipment. >> there are concepts that are the same like the mirror jury in the mock trials. >> reporter: is there a science and he and his team, have it down pat. they travel across the country to interview potential jurors from all walks of life. >> it is an advantage, tactical strategic advantage to have a jury consultant and for other side not to know whether they have obtained a jury consultant or not. >> reporter: he says it pays off for his clients and like any job the key to success is one word: preparation. >> if you are showing up there in court and you are just, hey we're just going to wing, it doesn't necessarily always work. >> reporter: david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". british airways is hoping to get back to normal today have a major computer system failure forced airline to cancel all flights from london to largest airports.

yesterday the airline cancelled all flights from heathrow and gatwick airport which operates hundreds of flights daily. it affected call centers and websites. british airways says there is no evidence of a sign's tack. well, tens of thousands are watching the skies in cumberland county, millville air show wraps tup day, fighter jets demonstrations and more. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan was there. whether soaring and breathtaking speed or hovering the short distance from the ground, a variety of aircraft mesmerized huge crowd at millville air show saturday. >> this might be a record crowd. >> reporter: twenty to 30,000 people are expected to attend the two day air show, main fundraiser for army airfield museum located here at america 's first airport. >> very first air show in 1941 when they dedicated airport, this is seventh fifth year having air shows in millville airport.

>> reporter: this years performers did not disappoint. >> pretty cool, we have been to a couple but this is different. >> first time ever in an air show pretty awesome experience my son loves airplanes so we figured we would enjoy ourselves today. >> reporter: this year u.s. navy blue angels are the main event. millville is the only stop in new jersey for the angels this year. while or hearing them roar overhead for the first time, others tried to see them as often as possible. >> ten times. >> reporter: rose kennedy appreciates the bravery of the pilots doing things it is hard to believe are even possible. >> a lot of tricks and going up in the air. >> reporter: that look tough to do. >> yes. >> reporter: will you try to do it some day. >> yes. >> reporter: you missed air show on saturday, the good news is you can come on sunday or visit airfield museum year round, in millville, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news" yeah, wraps up to day, air show is always a good time and they will have nice weather for it. >> good weather yesterday, it

looks like it could be better to day, always nice when we talk about better to day then yesterday. sunshine this morning, few areas have fog up in the lehigh valley but overall it is pretty nice start to our sunday, as we usually are talking about a new workweek but today we're still talking about our holiday weekend and our outlook for today and thomas we have that extra day off or many folks have that extra day off on monday. we are looking for a few breaks of sunshine, through the afternoon hours, cloud cover will be out there from time to time, weak cold front comes through tonight and that will bring chance for shower or isolated rumble of thunder, and as we go in the early morning of our monday, and then some 70's and 80's as we go through today and warmer thomas we get up into the lower 80's for our memorial day itself. waking up this morning temperatures out there some 50 's, 60's, above average, places like philadelphia, wilmington, back toward wildwood they are above average. dover seasonal at 58.

fifty-four in reading. fifty-two in allentown. that is where we have fog extending back toward lancaster with limited visability this morning and 52 t pocono. heading down toward the shore and we have a sea breeze this morning if you remember yesterday we woke up with that land breeze off of central new jersey. our temperatures stayed warmer yesterday morning and it looks like today with our sea breeze while temperatures in the 60's right now they won't rise too much through the afternoon and we could see these temperatures fall a little bit more from the 60's into the higher 50's and mid 50's before the morning is all said and done because we are getting that cool breeze off of the ocean. future weather that mix of sun and cloud throughout our sunday but we will be dry, throughout the day, if you know a few kind of green expect is here three or 4:00 in the afternoon through poconos it doesn't look like much of the shower chance for us. if you do see a couple sprinkles toward poconos don't be completely surprise budd it looks like a dry day for pretty much all of us.

as we head through the night time few showers develop along the coastline so maybe a couple of showers down toward the shore points of new jersey and it looks like it could be relatively dry down toward delaware area. that is good. our cold front comes through tonight into tomorrow morning, showers, maybe isolated rumble of thunder in the first half of the day on monday. for the afternoon hours on monday we will see some sunshine break through the cloud, couple spotty showers not completely ruled out monday afternoon but it looks like in general it should be dry for memorial day itself. for today 63 degrees. mixture of sun and cloud for memorial day going with morning showers and isolated rumble of thunder tomorrow morning but mixture of sun and cloud, 79 degrees for our high at the shore on memorial day itself. back here in philadelphia 57 degrees this afternoon with some sunshine break go through the cloud cover. showers, rumble of thunder for us tonight staying mild at 61 degrees. eyewitness weather forecast 80 for us tomorrow, and we will watch for again some showers, thunderstorm activity in the morning, brakes of sun in the

stage and they are also off stage. >> reporter: wildwood boomed in the 1950's as more people bought cars and construction of the garden state parkway was completed. bringing tourist to town and entertainers to the beach to keep them dancing. >> music came to us because we were a hot spot in the summertime, entertainers came here and performed and many of them started their career here >> reporter: tourist from new york, baltimore, philadelphia and beyond came a calling, looking for rooms and motels to spend a day, week or even a month by the ocean and it is seemingly endless beaches. >> there were a lot of things that came along because of good timing, close to philadelphia, and a great resort. >> reporter: wildwood hotels developed doop architecture borrowing style from pop culture and flashy cars, evenings glowed in the buzz of neon light. >> it is not just music but character of the resort, family fun destination. wildwood is all about fun.

good morning everyone i'm jan carabao. it is shaping up to be a pretty nice day today, meteorologist matt peterson live on the cbs-3 sky deck with the eyewitness wet forecast but matt, you are tracking some rain. >> we do have some rain in the forecast. good news not coming during daylight hours, on our sunday. always nice when we can talk about another day of dry, relatively nice weather, on our holiday weekend. we are outside and it feels a little bit we will call it humid, slightly mug any center city but we are not dealing with a ton of fog. we have much more humid conditions and some foggy weather out to our west and out toward reading and lancaster with limited visability and even wilmington getting in on that foggy action, with a mile and a half visibility out toward wilmington area rest of the delaware valley and up through most of the lehigh valley not too much factor for us. waking up lancaster, reading and northern delaware could be on the foggy side to kick off

, so what do we know. >> reporter: well, jan, good morning, fire was taken under control ban hour ago but you can see behind me it is still a very active scene out here with fire fighters still here at intersection of the north sixth street and westmontmont avenue, this is near berk street, and that tree in front of us is hiding damage but we have seen shattered windows and a charred frame of this house. neighbors say they saw flames in the back and engulfing much of the this home, earlier this home, and it happened around 4:45 and also, damaged a lot of the wires around here and we are seeing some work being done here as well, and authorities say that so far, one person has been taken to the hahnemann hospital but that person's condition is unknown at this time, and neighbors tell me that at least five people live here that includes two parents, one grandmother and two young children and at this time we are still waiting to learn more details and of course we

will bring you that as soon as we have them on air and on line at cbs philly.com but for now live from north philadelphia, anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> keep us up to date, thank you. police continue to look for clues this morning after a deadly hit/run in bucks county investigators say a 50 year-old woman was struck and killed as she crossed route 13 at beaver dam road in bristol. that crash happened in the southbound lanes late friday night and police are looking for a gray minivan with a missing headlight if you have any information please call bristol boro police. a teenager is called a hero today after rescuing his baby baby from a burning home in the overbrook neighborhood. fire broke out there around 10:30 saturday morning in the 1,000 block of flanders road, authorities say that the family did a head count and then realized the baby was missing, that is when the young man ran inside the burning home to rescue his nephew. well, president trump is back in washington after wrapping up his week long

welcome back. it looks like famous great white shark mary lee is on the move this holiday weekend. officials tell us her tracking device shows she's off the wildwood coast and heading north. on friday "eyewitness news" told thaw mary lee was back in the area already. officials have been tracking mary lee for four and a half years and she is the size of the minivan. speaking of sharks this morning spotlight is on sharks at camden's adventure aquarium it is hosting first ever shark awareness event this memorial day weekend. what is it like to get an up

weekend you try to do as much as you can outside get family involved whether it is going to avoid turra quarter yum, poconos, down the shore, try to get outside as much as you can and it has been a good weekend for that for the most part the last few days. it looks like today will follow suit and should be a nice afternoon for us. outside right now in kutztown we keep showing lehigh valley because we did have fog outside on our neighborhood network camera just a lit built ago but sun has come up without cloud cover and that sunshine burns off the fog. temperatures still on the cool side at 62 degrees and while visibility in areas around reading, lancaster, maybe a lit built on the lower side you might be careful, and areas like reading, lancaster it looks like that fog is burning off relatively quick. memorial day weekend forecast this afternoon, some sun, cloud, seasonal. 75 degrees. we will be up to 80 on monday. we have a chance for shower and thunderstorms early in the day but sunshine breaks through later on in the afternoon this is why we could have a chance for shower or
