circle. alternate lanes, until 6:00 a.m. we are seeing another 15 minutes and then they should clear out of the way. i will confirm when they do so but cruzs are still out there we have construction on 495 as well, southbound at edgemore road on and off ramps on this particular area will start actually right at the tip of our morning rush, and kind of go on through our evening rush until 7:00 p.m. more coming up in a bit. jim, over to you. >> thanks, meisha. world war two veteran is celebrating his high school graduation more than 70 years after he started his school. nine two-year old elmer shin sky dropped out of his pennsylvania high school in tenth grade to join the army back in 1943. he always wanted to go back but could not swing it. now thanks to operation recognition the school granted elmer his diploma. he said it was a long time coming. >> it is something i never would see. >> he always talk about it and would go back to school but with work he didn't have time to go back to school.

>> well, elmer says he has pick out a spot to display his difficult prom a good for him. >> indeed. diagnosis of cancer for a two-year old delaware county girl turned into a 10 year journey and hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for childhood cancer. as i learned she says she's not done just yet. >> one of my first memories is in the hospital and watching elmo. >> reporter: for as long as maya rigler can remember cancer and hospital visit has been part of her life. >> doctor felt this lump and said do you know what this is. we were brought in the world of childhood cancer. >> reporter: devastated by inspired by the store i have of alex scott, maya and her family decided to raise money for other children with cancer that would be the beginning of a life long relationship with the alex scott foundation and a life long fight with cancer. >> adults have a bad image of like it is really sad all the time and it is, part of it is, but there is also something else that they have to think about the fight and the hope

through it, that it is in the just oh, my god cancer that is so sad. you have to think about the will to fight. >> reporter: little maya did fight and she won beating cancer but then several years ago another devastating diagnosis, maya had cancer, again. >> all of a sudden we were back in the world. >> reporter: she pulled through once more and yet again beat cancer. >> hundreds of gifts were pouring in the children's hospital we were getting them here, drive home from the hospital, gifts in the driveway, obviously we were all devastated and trying to find a little bit of joy and as we brought these gifts maya looked at us and said enough. >> i saw these other kid at the hospital who weren't getting as many presents and then they didn't have the luck that i had so we decided to start fund raising again to help other kid like me. >> reporter: maya set a goal of $10,000, perhaps a big goal for a small girl but she exceeded the amount within days so she set another goal, and another, and then another.

>> at this moment we're at 400,000. >> that is incredible. >> yes. >> it started out as just me trying to, you know, raise some money and trying to make a difference but it ended up being so much more then we ever thought it would be. >> people are just kind of spreading it. >> maya is alex larger single fundraiser, she and her family are proud have that but it is not just about the money raised but what she has learned and what she hopes, others have learned from her. >> i have had different experiences then all my friend , these experiences helped shape me into a better person. some good came out of that. >> she taught us incredible lessons and she is still my 12 year-old preteen but she has taken the lessons from cancer the hardest thing that anyone can get through and she has learned to make life better for herself and other people. we can't ask for more than that. >> special little girl this weekend maya will be

celebrating, it is expected to be a big celebration. this is closure after her illness. as you might imagine she beat cancer a second time and she still plans to keep on, going, way to go. just about 10 minutes we are kicking off our 11th annual alex scott a stand for hope tell-a-thon all day licensing we are raising money for childhood cancer. alex scott dreamed of the day where none of the friend had to fight cancer and even though alex who her own battle we are joining her family and friend and keeping her friend alive, phone lines opened up at 6:00 a.m. >> few minutes to go. >> yes. with whole new meaning to playing with your food, see some of the works of art made out of fruit, coming up next. also this young man forgot to bring his recorder to the concert new didn't stop him from playing, we will hear from that student when we come back
