>> cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> now at noon, a look at storm scan3 shows rain is on the way. communities across the area are bracing for a system that could dump inches of rain fast. mears kate fehlinger is trafficking the storm. >> also this noon our listeners cameras captures the moments were d.a. seth williams arrive a philadelphia courtroom. today jury selection begins in his corruption trial. >> he's accused of taking bribes in exchange for legal favors but he denies any wrongdoing.

good afternoon, i'm jim donovan. >> and i'm rahel solomon. our joe holden is live outside the federal courthouse in center city with today's developments. joe. >> reporter: rahel, jim, good afternoon. there are 1,374th jurors packed into what is known as the ceremonial courtroom here at the united states federal state court house. the judge is going through questions asking the jurors if they possibly know any of the players in the case, of course, if they know district attorney seth williams. we were there as seth williams arrived this morning taking no questions on his way in. the potential jurors were told to brace for a long day. williams is charged with bribery, extortion on fraud. the city district attorney here is accused of exerting his influence for friends and business associates in exchange for trips, gifts, a convertible, a sofa, electronics and a whole laundry list of other items.

williams is also charged with diverting $20,000 meant for the care of his mother at a local nursing home. williams' defense team has fought the charges filing motions to dismiss which the judge has denied. now, the judge told the jurors this trial could possibly last three to four weeks. practically every hand went up on the question if serving on this jury would that present a hardship. jury selection continues with questioning ranging from have you been involved to the d.a.'s office, do you know law enforcement do you know seth williams or do you know any players in the case. again some hands go up to some of these questions, some questions have seen no hands go up but again, the question if people know about this case, practically every hand of this pool of 137 potential jurors went up. to a time line if you will,

looking at skycam3 overlooking off in the distance. now, this is overlooking 22nd street. we're taking this shot from the central park way library and out towards fairmount park. not looking all that gray just yet but this is in the city and we'll go next to storm scan3, what you'll find is already stormy weather erupting just outside of the delaware valley into central pa. a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued lasting until 8:00 p.m. but notice delaware, southern new jersey not included in this. that could change with time as the line itself continues to migrate east and south. however, for now it's just southeastern pennsylvania in that watch box and up until 3:00 p.m. the lehigh valley and the poconos are starting to see these storms erupt. this time line is important because it will likely affect many of you for the evening rush. 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. bumping up the timing a little bit, the northwest suburbs philadelphia philadelphia included with the heaviest of

the thunderstorms rumbling in and then it works east from there. later we'll talk about impact, what are you going to see from these storms when they push through. much more in the rest of your full forecast just a little later on. jim. >> thank you katie. the suspect in the stabbing of philadelphia city councilman david oh is that scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. police say sean yarbray stabbed cans sill man oh in a botched robbery attempt on may 31st. investigators say yarbray demanded oh's car keys outside his kingsessing home and stabbed him. yarbray denies those allegations. the judge in the bill cosby sexual assault trial can review whether to relays the names of the jurors as early as today. several news operations are challenging a protect tiff order that shields the jurors' identities t montgomery county judge steven o'neill declared a mistrial saturday morning after the jury said they were hopelessly dead deadlocked. >> police investigating what caused a tractor-trailer to lose control cal northeast

philadelphia intersection. chopper3 topher roosevelt boulevard at broad street. authorities say the tractor-trailer hopped a curb around 7:30 this morning. the crash took down a traffic light t no one was hurt. one direction of traffic onto rhawn street was blocked but all lanes are back open. police hope surveillance video can help them track dune suspect wanted for a deadly shooting in west philadelphia after 3 a.m. near 54th and market. police say the victim was under house arrest and was sitting on the front porch of his home when someone shot him multiple times. >> a dirt bike rider fatally shot early this month. 30-year-old david jones was shot after a philadelphia police officer noticed him driving erratically in north philadelphia on june 8th. authorities say officer ryan purnell fired a weapon. the rally is scheduled for 4 o'clock today. >> family and friends are grieving today after an

11-year-old girl was electrocuted in toms river over the weekend. eye witnesses say kayla mmatos of newark was in the water with friends when a boat lift became electrically charged. she and one of the girls touched a rail when killed kayla. >> she was too young. my heart goes out to her family and it's just a sin and, you know, it's just a lesson, you know, you can't fool around with anything by the water. >> now none of the other children were injured in the accident. police say it is important to avoid water surrounding a boat marina or dock during a busy summer season. >> london police now say a 47-year-old man has been charged with a terror offense over a mosque attack last night. british police continue to investigate the attack where they say a man plowed into a crowd of worshipers. one person died at the scene. at least 10 others are injured. brooks silva-braga reports from london. >> reporter: cell phone video captures the chaos after a man rams his van into that a

crowd outside a london mosque. witnesses say the driver shouted i want to kill all muslims as they wrestled him to the ground. others rushed to help had the injured. >> i see people on the floor, one guy blood running down his head. it was very horrific scenes. >> reporter: the attack happened just after midnight as ramadhan prayers ended the driver smashed into a group of people giving first tied a elderly man. later died but it's not clear if he was killed in the crash. police arrested a 48-year-old white man and say they're investigating this as a terror attack. >> given the methodology and given what was occurring and what happened the tragic incidents across the country this had all the hall marks of a terrorist incident. >> reporter: london police promised muslims here they'll get extra protection through the rest of month of ramadhan but the promise was little comfort to some. >> i just feel like a target is on my back. i feel unsafe. i don't feel like we should be like this as a community. >> reporter: britain's prime minister vowed to fight terror and hatred.

>> there has been far too much tolerance of extremism in our country over many years. and that means extremism of any kind including islam phobia. >> reporter: this is the fourth terrorist attack in the uk since march and the third aimed at pedestrians. brook silva-braga for cbs news, london. >> earlier this month on the london bridge islamic extremists used a vehicle and knives to kill eight people and wound many others before police shot and killed him london police confirmed at least 79 people are now presumed dead or missing after that highrise apartment fire in from last tuesday. of the 79, only five people have been positively identified. the tower became engulfed isn't flames while many people inside were sleeping. investigators continue to work with families of those who are still missing. >> president trump senior adviser jared kushner has another high profile trip scheduled this week. his son-in-law is heading to

israel and palestine where opens expected to meet with benjamin netanyahu and palestinian president mahmoud abbas. bringing peace to the region is a top priority for the administration. >> in other news this noon a boston area mall is the scene of a tense standoff between police and an alleged gunman. officers were called into the square one mall around 4:30 this morning. police say they received a report of a break in at a dick's sporting goods store. >> just hoping no one like gets hurt and then he -- this all just like calms down. >> i'm driving to work listening to the news. bombings and all kinds of craziness in the world and then, you know, right here at home to have this is terrible. >> now, there are no reports of injuries at this point. the public is being told to stay away from the area until police can bring the situation under control. >> and we now know the identities of the seven sailors who died when the "u.s.s. fitzgerald" collided

>> developing this noon at least 62 people are dead following a devastating wildfire still raging across portugal. >> at least people were killed in their cars while trying to flee on a road that was engulfed by the fire. the portuguese government says around 500 firefighters with 160 fire engines are still trying to bring fire under control. no-no word on what may sparked the flames but hot and dry conditions are fueling the disaster. >> closer to home people in erie county pennsylvania dealing with flooding following severe storms on sunday. official in mill creek township declared a disaster. some people became stranded in their cars as rushing waters stalled engines. others are dealing with feet of water in their homes. >> and the rain is heading our way. >> it is. the same system interestingly enough. it's a sluggish moving frontal

boundary. it has sped up a little bit. i'm thinking maybe an extra hour or two earlier than what we were originally expecting for philly so a little closer to 6 o'clock or 5 o'clock but we'll need to monitor all that of but bottom line is we're going to get hit and it's not going to be good timing the. the storms definitely mean business. they'll be menacing and wait until you see the poconos shot that i'm going to show you here because the storms are already moving into that area. let's go out to the maps. we'll start it off with a view of storm scan3. that's a cold front right there, folks. take a look. that line really is just gathering lots of moisture out in front of it. it's got a huge clash to work with it in the heat that's been building. already multiple storm cells starting to fire up across parts of the poconos in central pennsylvania. we do have a severe risk -- threat for severe weather throughout the rest of the day and enhanced risk for a good portion of the area and the bulk of that wet weather is going to come through later this afternoon and toward the

early evening just as many of us are back on the roads and trying to get home for the day. so s-your main threats are these. downpours, we're talking heavy downpours and flash flood potential. wind as well as frequent cloud to ground lightning. those are the big three. then you look at hail as a possibility out of some of these cells. the tornadic risk is low but it's still a risk. that would be the least of our worries. it's primarily heavy rain that could lead again to flash flooding. that wind issue and then frequent lightning. so let's talk a little bit of flash flood safety. never ever drive through a flooded roadway. it's just not a good idea. outenly takes 6-inches of fast moving water to knock over a person and it and it only takes you that much to lose power over your vehicle. turn around, avoid it. it's better to be late than not arrive at all.

here's that shot i promised. this is camel beach up at the camelback resort. you see those clouds looming. this is scary looking stuff to me. i saw a lot of folks out in this wading pool. thank goodness they're out of here. looks like a couple guards are just minding this and making sure that everybody stays out of the pool at this point. but then you've got the beach. this is absolutely lovely outside at the boardwalk plaza in rehoboth were. storms are still many hours away from you there but they're getting under way up in the mountains. here's how it feels. it feels like the mid 90's. that's a clash folks. you've got high humidity, high pressure moisture and high temperatures to go along with it. the actual air temperature right now at the airport is 89 degrees. we're calling for 90 at this point. we'll see how we do. that's the expectation. we're easily going to hit it in fact as we have sunlight still to work with in the city. tomorrow this is long gone. the front will have cleared and we're back to sunshine and all in all a nice stretch

other than a spotty shower guys wednesday and thursday. the next three days really look very nice. >> we got to get through this cell. >> exactly a the next couple hours and it's go game. >> naked man flying in flagstaff arizona nearly killed a freezing rain. the trooper arrived on the interstate after someone reported a naked man was lying in the median. >> when the trooper arrived the man ran towards the troops vehicle and began hitting it with the fist. then he got back in the car and rammed the trooper's vehicle multiple times. he suffered minor bruises and was taken into police custody without incident. the trooper is home recovering and is expected to be okay. glad he's going to be okay but what a wild story. >> any time you hear naked in a story you know
