corruption trial continues. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do is live outside federal courthouse this morning with more on what both side had to say, good morning, trang do. >> reporter: good morning, jan , jim. prosecution broke down 29 counts of bribery and corruption charges williams is facing, it is into five criminal schemes. defense is arguing that though williams exercised bad judgment he didn't break the law. in opening statements, federal prosecutors painted a picture of district attorney seth williams as a man used his position to broker deals with two local businessmen resulting in plane tickets, a car, even a sofa. and that he was expected to return those favors, through preferential treatment and a position in the d.a.'s office. on his turn defense attorney thomas berk told the jury his client made mistakes but that they didn't amount to a crime and described the businessman as williams close friend. the prosecution first witness

now. new jersey authorities say hamilton township police officer thought to have been killed in the car crash actually died from a self inflict gunshot wound. mercer county officials say the officer was off-duty when its suv struck back of the van yesterday on the 2700 block of nottingham way in hamilton. the officer died at the scene, no one else was injured. well, new information in the violent hit and run that critically injured a woman in burlington township. police released this picture of the silver 1997 or 98 mazda prote ge they are looking for a car just like this one this crash happened 9:15 sunday night. vick them was crossing southbound lanes of the route 130 near devlin avenue, police say one car hit her and another car, dragged her. moments later surveillance video shows one of the cars, pulling into a nearby car dealership, the driver, passenger switched seats before driving off. well, is there cleaning up to do in bucks county after train cars come off the track, chopper three was overhead

back on "eyewitness news" national weather service officials confirmed a line of severe thunderstorms that rumbled through our region on monday spawned two tornadoes, one caught on camera in berks county, the ef0 tornado packed wind up to 80 miles per hour, several trees were up rooted but no serious damage. meantime other tornado, demolished a storage shed and a trailer in sussex county, delaware, weather officials say wind, topped 85 miles an hour, delaware electric cooperative headquarters, located not far from there was also hit hard by the storm, crew is still managed to re store power to about 2,000 homes in sussex and kent county. jan, people on gulf coast are battening down hatches as tropical storm cindy brings wind, rain and that rain is a big concern, up to a foot is

possible in parts of the texas , lou san,al bam, mississippi and florida panhandle. cindy will be first tropical system to hit u.s. this hurricane season, correspondent hen adan qualifications shows us how people are being prepared. >> reporter: tropical storm cindy is making her presence known packing sustained wind of 60 miles per hour as she moves toward the gulf coast. heavy rainfall pounded mississippi overnight and that rain is what forecasters say is the biggest threat. residents are being warned that there could be life threatening flash flooding. many in new orleans spent tuesday getting ready. >> we will barricade, the front door so water doesn't get up to that level. we have 25 sandbags so we will put between front and back door. >> reporter: louisiana national guard dispatched high water vehicles and helicopters to flood prone areas and state officials are telling residents to head to the mainland to do it as soon as possible. >> this will be a serious

event, we could get lucky and it could turnout to be nothing but we don't expect that will happen. it could be one to three or three to 12. >> reporter: first heavy band of rain and wind hit new orleans last night soaking the cities famed french quarter and bourbon street. in alabama governor declared a state of emergency. visitors on the gulf shores are being warned to stay out of the rough surf. >> i know it is a storm but so peaceful at the same time. we love it. >> reporter: forecasters say cindy will crawl her way toward texas over the next couple of days. hanna daniels for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". i don't understand that, waves are crashing and she says it is peaceful. i was like okay. >> okay, to each their own, we interpret things our own way. it is really bringing home an important point too, guys, sometimes i think the verbiage , the labeling can sometimes throw you off. for storms that are, simply tropical storms. you may think they are not

that big of a deal but keep in mind as it was mentioned by mayor of new orleans that rain , the flooding, it is the concern, does this have any impact on us? we will get you outside to start off with a wide zoom to show you, what is happening with cindy right now and it is still tropical. brett not even an issue, that has since fizzled over north and south america, but here's that storm, you can see heavy band of rain lifting in from mississippi,al bam, bayou as well. will it lift north? yes. will it reach us? i don't think so. i think it will make a right-hand turn and be more mid-atlantic concern. we're looking better, then we did yesterday, and day before as far as where that will track. now that it is moving on shore we get a better sense how things will shake out. we have clear skies. we have more cloud cover in the shore points, delaware beaches but we are in for a nice summer day, it is officially summer since we had summer solstice taking place
