breaking news this morning a deadly crash shuts down a portion of the vine street expressway. plus, two tornadoes are confirmed in new jersey after severe weather rolls rolls through the region we will show you some damage left behind from those saturday storms. changes to today's philadelphia triathlon after all that rain we had yesterday , we are live with what is different about this years event. today is sunday june 25th good morning everyone i'm jan carabao. lets get over to meteorologist matt peterson with the eyewitness weather forecast, good sunday morning, matt, what a difference 24 hours makes. >> you are not kidding. yesterday at this time we were picking up pieces at this point after the really, strong line of thunderstorms came through and we were still tracking it moving through south jersey and now this morning.

>> beautiful. >> it is wonderful outside here as we begin our sunday but it was a much different story 24 hours ago, we will continue to see, very nice conditions, throughout our sunday, we will see temperatures that are right where they should be, right on average for the middle or second half of june. as we look at storm scan three from the last couple hours we don't have anything to talk b we have a few high cloud trying to work their way in southwestern, new jersey but beside that it is a calm, quiet, it is just a wonderful, wonderful morning across the entire delaware valley backup in the lehigh valley and shore as well. so across the entire viewing area we are looking good, temperatures, for us we have now listen into 75 degrees just pennsylvania 8:00. seventy-three in wilmington. a couple 60's in reading and allentown both at 69. dover at 74. heading back down down the shore, if you are just getting up we have a land breeze that

tend to warm our temperatures up quicker but we are still right now getting some help from the ocean, moderating these temperatures out. we are in the lower 70's, stone harbor at 74. ocean city 73. cape may at 73 degrees. dew points are in the 60's we could see them dip back down in the afternoon. that goodies news. hugh mid much lower today then where it has been recently. 9:00 a.m. temperatures similar to what we have right now, we will be up to a high of 86 degrees, wonderful sunday for us, spotty showers to start off workweek as a few weak systems come through. we will talk about that in a bit. new this morning police are investigating a deadly accident in center city. the crash happened right around 5:00 a.m. on the vine street expressway, going eastbound between broad street and eighth street. we're tolde bound lanes of the vine street expressway that were shut down have now reopen two cars were involved in that

crash. traffic had to be closed while the scene was cleared. police confirmed that one person died in the accident and no details at this moment on what caused the crash. a dramatic pursuit in a 10 hour barricade situation end with the man and woman dead in lehigh county. investigators believe couple died by murder/suicide last night in upper saucon township their bodies were found in the attic of the home they were held up in. officials say couple fired shots when office's tempted a traffic stop around noon time, and then the man and woman drove away, after their car got stuck in the mud bank, the couple then ran away, they approached several people demanding their car keys, authorities were extremely careful while approaching the suspects. >> the individuals entered at least two homes that we necessity of that were occupied at the time. a robot was sent in, tear gas was deployed into the property , and ert team made entry, and discovered two

deceased persons in the attic. >> now officials say the pair was wanted for a parole violation, in another county, they have not yet released the suspect's identities, in other injuries were reported throughout the incident. the national weather service has confirmed two tornadoes touched down in monmouth county, new jersey on saturday. you can see, hear those powerful wind blowing opened the door of this home depot in howell. what looked like a funnel included destroyed power lines in the parking lot there high wind flipped over a couple cars, thankfully in injuries were reported. there is damage from this weekend's severe weather in other parts of the new jersey as well. residents are working around the clock clearing down trees, on park avenue in collinswood, huge trees were up rooted damaging sidewalks there one street over on stokes avenue a neighbor says it appears that whatever passed through there clipped just the tops of the

trees outside of his home. >> it sounded like a plane going right over the house. my wife woke me up and dragged me out of bed and there was trees all over the place. i didn't know what was going on until neighbors were out and fire department came. >> scary out there yesterday. high wind snapped power lines in some neighborhood. the 13th annual philadelphia triathlon is still going strong this morning. the root got a sudden make over this year. that could benefit some of the athletes. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh is live on mlk drive with more on the change toss this years event. hi there anita. >> reporter: good morning, jan more than 2500 people have signed up to be part of the philadelphia triathlon this year. even though there are changes to the race course, the swim portion was cancelled. now it is a run, bike, run there is a lot of excitement and people who are happy to be

here this morning participating, so right now race's still going on as we mentioned. this is part of the race course behind me where some runners have just come through but there are, let me tell you they are so fast elite and pro runners have come through here , the elite runners run a four minute a 452nd mile so they are incredibly fast and many people did train for this swimming portion. we have heard some mixed reaction about that. some people say they train hard that is their biggest strength and, of course, they cannot take part because of the debris and heavy rains have brought so much flow and heavy debris and water is moving just way too quickly organizers say for this to be safe root for swimmers. bill berk hoist race director here explains more. >> you know, it is disappointing, of course. the athletes want to swim. we want them to swim. but just sheer luck that a lot of rain fell north of the city , yesterday and just

created unsafe condition. but athletes that do this sport of triathlon and participate know that there is another plan, if something takes place. if something happens. alters the swim. today we will put that plan in place. it is a dry tri this morning. >> reporter: that is a dry tri this morning. but still they are running and biking, 50 total kilometers which would have been the same anyway even if the swim portion was involved, but again, for safety reasons they cannot have that, and right now they are actually, announcing the winner of this this years event and we will talk to him in the next half an hour or so, but the three top finishers in each age category will get a free entry into next years escape from alcatras which is a bucket list item for many people, so that is exciting as well and is there also a $20,000 pry purse on the line with little bit extra motivation, for now, live at philadelphia triathlon i'm anita oh for cbs-3

"eyewitness news". >> show must go on, dry tri but still underway, that is good news. thanks very much. we will check back with you. in other news senate bill that would repeal and replace affordable care act could be in trouble as wendy gilette reports, five g.o.p. senators now say they cannot support the current draft of the bill. >> i will not support it. >> reporter: nevada's dean heller is one of the five republicans in the senate who say they cannot support current draft of the bill to replace obama care. >> it doesn't protect people on medicaid. >> reporter: other four senators say it does not do enough to repeal obama care and lower health care costs. senators have said they are opened to considering a revised plan but a three of them vote no the measure will fail. saturday president trump tweet ed i cannot imagine that these very fine, republican senators, would allow the american people, to suffer a broken obama care any longer. president trump also focused his weekly address on reforming health care.

>> democrats in congress created this calamity and now if we don't act, millions more americans will be hurt bio bam a care's deepening death spiral. >> reporter: president will lead effort to try to convince reluctant republicans to support the bill, changes can still be made to the legislation. some democrats are holding events this weekend to stand up against the bill. >> make no mistake, this bill in the senate like the one in the house would be a u turn on the progress we have made when it comes to affordable care in the united states of america. >> reporter: senate majority leader mitch mcconnell wants to hold a vote on the bill before the july 4th recess, likely thursday. wendy gilette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". we're following tragedy overseas now, at least 148 people have been killed in eastern pakistan when an oil tanker rolled off a highway there and burst into flames. authorities say many of the victims actually ran toward

the truck to try to collect the fuel, and they were up close when tanker blew up. another 140 people were injured, many with severe burns. meantime authorities in chine after recovered at lee 10 bodies after a massive land slide swept over 60 homes in a remote village there. earlier in the day officials say 15 people were killed but numbers have been revised now, 93 people are still missing, the landslide happened early saturday morning while many people were asleep, more than 2500 rescuers and workers are now searching for survivors, so far, just three people, a couple and their one month-old infant has been saved. experts say heavy rain toys blame for this deadly landslide. still to come on "eyewitness news" this sunday morning a slip and fall with a devastating result. >> impact of life is just incredible, there is just no, basically you have no life left. >> a potential break through

there is a new way to stop back pain being called a game change information people who don't get relief with other therapist and don't want to depend on drugs. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on the first patient locally to be part of the clinical trials. >> reporter: report brian musgrave has trouble with any kind of moving, he broke his back slipping than black ice two years ago. >> which is worse when you twist backward or go straight backward. >> backward. >> reporter: two surgeries later and every therapy possibly is in agony. >> it is a constant pain that goes down from my back, down both legs, into my feet, and then my feet it feels like there is almost like needles. >> reporter: at 50 he noise longer able to work and even simple joys of playing with

his grandson are limited. >> he wants pop pop to pick him up but he can't. >> reporter: he is hoping this will give him back his life the evoke system is new spinal cord stimulation therapy. >> i think it is a potential that this will be a big break through. >> reporter: doctor stephen rosen with the delaware valley pain and spinal institute is testing the evoke system. >> in real time we're reading the patient's pain and responding to it, and that is a major advance in pain management. >> reporter: device is surgically implanted in the back with a lead that goes up the spinal column. >> this is all under the skin. >> reporter: device creates an electrical stimulation that interrupts pain signals to the brain and it is first that automatically adjust to movements and variations in pain. >> signal can change the pain in the patient's position whether they are coughing, if they are going to be in a car. >> reporter: brian hopes he will get off a fentanyl patch and oxycodone he has been using on pain relief. >> i'm praying it can help enough to get off some of the

drugs. i dent want to be on this medication the rest of my life >> reporter: since therapy doesn't work for everyone brian was able to try a portable external unit before decide to go get the surgery. >> it helps with the nerve pain, just a tingling feeling, it is great, it is awesome, i really believe it will be something. >> reporter: brian was first patient in our area to test the device, he says he is feeling better, the spine institute is looking for more people to be part of the clinical trial, preliminary data shows a majority of the patients get sustained pain relief, and as with any surgery is there a risk of infection. i'm stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". turning now to weather, it is just a lovely start to our sunday. >> absolutely a huge difference from yesterday. you and i just a little bit prior to this time yesterday were on air talking about severe thunderstorms we see tornado ripping through and today completely different.

gist a wonderful sunday afternoon. we will talk about tornadoes. i know we have license recapping them all morning long but it was a ef0 that came through machine mouth county yesterday morning, time new just around 7:21 when it came through, estimated max wind right around 75 miles an hour touched down in that home depot parking lot on route nine. it lasted for just about a half mile or so with the wind of 40-yard. so this was our first tornado in the four planes area and second one that touched down 7:27. this also a. f-zero in the oak glenn area 75 miles an hour wind with this one as well. it track through the park and this one was a third of the mile long. so not overly strong they were overly large tornadoes but they still caused damage. 75 miles an hour wind is quite a strong gusty wind and we have ef0 tornadoes that came through yesterday. now not just tornado activity yesterday but heavy rainfall in the morning and first half

of the day. trenton broke a record rainfall yesterday. we got 2 inches in trenton. old record was .82 in 2006 and we have smashed that record. we got an inch and a third breaking old record shy of .8 of an inch from 1989. headlines for today and in the beginning of the workweek, mostly sunny, seasonal for us. comfortable conditions with low humidity. it is not that sticky. that is nice news but below normal temperatures but they will be more than comfortable and a few spotty showers are going to be thrown in the mix as well as we go with a few areas of kind of, we will call them shortwaves that will stay north of the philadelphia area temperatures for us right new we are in the 70's, still in the 60's north of the city toward reading and allentown. seventy-four in wildwood. seventy-one in trenton. getting a look at our future weather here by 2:00 this afternoon still mainly a sunny day, a few spotty showers out

there, philly south jersey and delaware will remain dry. best chance for showers will be north of the city toward the poconos for our sunday. through the later portions of our evening and overnight, tonight we will completely clear things out, nice quiet drive to work on monday, we will see plenty of sunshine, take your sunglasses with you tomorrow morning. as we look at our monday, afternoon evening time frame, another chance for a couple light showers and isolated rumble of thunder later in the day on monday and same theme picks up for our tuesday as well, outside, margate a few, little bit of just a few, waves out there, that is about it, it is a pretty good day for us down at the beach, as cool in the water, only 60 degrees for water temperature. eighty-four. wear sun block. no real rip current risk. that is good news. perfect day to be hanging out at the beach. eyewitness weather seven day forecast 86 degrees our high this afternoon. we have a high of 80. on monday a little bit below

live on the cbs-3 sky deck with eyewitness weather, good morning, matt. >> good morning, everyone. i don't think it can get any better then this morning then what we have right now. it is fantastic. sun shining, humidity down. temperatures are just more than comfortable across the entire delaware valley. it is going to be a fantastic day to wrap up our weekend when are here, at the shore, up in the poconos, again it is a wonderful, day. temperatures, are into the kind of low to mid 70's range from center city philadelphia back down in south jersey and delaware shore points too, still clinging to the upper 60 's north of the sit, reading , allentown, maybe still again, still looking at upper 60's, 75 in center city. seventy-four in ac. seventy-four in dover. these temperatures american comfortable, dew point is it just feels fantastic out here on the sky deck. dew points in the 60's but still in the low enough that we are not overly oppressive

with this humidity. it doesn't feel that bad at all. we could see dew points dip in the high 50's at times later this afternoon and reason for all this dry air coming in is calm wind and then little bit of the breeze we do see is out of the north and west ushering in that dry, cooler air. we will get to 86 in philadelphia. eighty-four down the shore. high in the poconos today 76. we will see spotty showers to start the week out though we will talk about those when i come back inside, jan. we are following breaking news this morning a young child has died in the house fire in chester county. fire fighters were called to buckwalter road in east coventry around 5:45 this morning. official says a father was out and then came home to find his home burning. he cut himself trying to get in through a window. his child believe to be five and seven was found dead inside of that home. it is unclear at this time what started the fire. in other news the national weather service confirms two

right now jason west and jason , you have been a penn state grad, local kid what does it mean to win this morning. >> i earn my professional license here, and i have raced it so many times. it is always been a special race for me and i'm glad they brought it back in year. i could come home, my parents who are, my brother is here. i had some family support. people out on the court that i knew in college and just shouting for me and it was incredible to have that support. yes, to have my parents here for my first big win is really special. >> reporter: amazing, congratulations. you have done this several years. when we saw you run by you had two people in front of you, how did you close that gap. >> i knew fit was a minute to 1:20 it was in reach. i heard a minute coming out of transition. i knew i could do it i just had to chip away little by little. that has always been the way i get it, my specialty, so i

knew it was there. i set up a race plan with my coach yesterday and i think i executed it well and that is wharf to do just stick tour plan and go for it and if you execute it, it turns out well for you. so i was really fortunate to get the win. i was than the sure if i was going to reach him, it was hurting really bad at the even , yeah. finish line could not come soon enough but i just, i wanted it really bad. >> reporter: so is there a whole strategy. you said you have two to three jobs that you have to try to support yourself, being the athlete that you are and this is such an intense, very intense gig. congratulations. what kind of training initial to this and is what your goal to get to alcatras next year. >> it is tough, you are training, basically all morning afternoon and then unfortunate live turf go to work in the evenings it is tough coming out of college you don't have much and you have to support yourself and you are basically working 60,

70 hour weeks until you start winning and you hope that break through comes. i have been fighting, fighting , it has been really hard. most challenging thing i have ever done in my life which makes it most rewarding thing i think i have ever done. so it is really tough this sets me up well for alcatras to get there to score a lot of points, race i have always wanted to do. so much history there especially unique event and course is amazing and best athletes in the world turnout for it. just like they are fighting it out this year. so, to be able to race the best athletes in the world in one of the greatest course is in the world, that is, really special. >> reporter: thanks very much, jason congratulations. all these athletes today we will get for $20,000, pry, purse, so as you just heard from our local winner here jason west this is a great event we will keep you posted throughout the rest of the afternoon, but for now live along mlk drive i'm anita oh

for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks, anita. well, police are still searching for two men who robbed a store in drexel hill by disguising themselves as construction workers. this happened at edible arrangements on state road yesterday morning, and police say suspect broke in through back of the store and robbed clerk there, they were wearing hard hats and vests police want anyone with any information to give them a call. detectives continue continue on investigate a deadly stab nothing north philadelphia violence happened directly behind a school, "eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves has the latest. >> reporter: philadelphia police are investigating a gruesome homicide in the strawberry mansion section of the city, one that has some residents like dana harrison on edge. >> to hear that someone was brutally attacked right outside i wonder what the motive would be. >> reporter: 3:21 police were called here a passerby discover woman's bloody body in the grass.

>> her condition shows an awful experience that she must have gone through. >> reporter: police say woman was bludgeoned in her face, her pants pulled down to her ankle and she was stabbed a dozen times from her thighs all the way up to her chest this was a very brutal, savage attack, and somebody really wanted to make sure that she did suffer and that she was killed. >> reporter: all morning authorities combed the area where body was found and discovered some of the woman's purse contents thrown around in the grass. authorities have not found weapon used to stab women and not made any arrests leaving some like harris concerned about her safety. >> if somebody need to try to do something to a person like that just because the area where we live don't mean this is stuff that we should have to face. >> reporter: at this hour we have checked with homicide detectives and they have not released full identity of the woman killed only saying she was 34 years old and her last known address was not too far
