this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. >> shooting leaves one person dead in south philadelphia overnight. we'll tell you about the leads that police are chasing right now. >> a fire breaks out overnight in a artist building. we'll tell you where this all unfolded just a few hours ago. and roads may be slick this morning, after rains move through overnight. we'll tell if you that rain is going to stick around for the morning commute. today is tuesday, june 27, good morning, i'm jim donovan. rahel has the morning off. also, have that, plus another big city joined philadelphia enrolling out sugary drink tax. but first, a check on the forecast with katie and roads, meisha. my ladies are back. >> rahel's still on vacation. >> one of these days we will all be together, what, next

tuesday or something like. >> jim, on twitter when you put the recovering chairs, musical chairs. >> you don't know who is going to be sittinger. >> well good morning, it is wealth out there, katie, so our commute this morning will be little slow. right now just look at a lot of construction. >> yes. >> tis the season for. that will certainly tis the season for summer vacation, so hopefully the roads won't be quite as congested out there for you. as we take a look what's happening right now here, on our "skycam 3", things pretty clear at the moment. we did certainly have stormy weather rumbled on through in the last hour, hour and a half or so. rain still mushing it way through not just 95 with you the jersey turnpike, north, up to new york sit, you'll be running certainly into wet roads. so around the city just from this little batch that did roll on through. so, we should be catching a little bit after break as the rest of the morning progresses, here is a look at the last couple of hours, yes, those storms may have woken you up over the last two hours or so. certainly rumble over my house, that's for sure, so if that's the case for you,

expect that certainly the flowers, the grass have gotten nice well deserved drink. but it looks to me as though things will continue to clear as the rest of the morning goes on. checking what's going on with the temperatures, but do have data coming in for philly, at well as atlantic city, and the dag progresses we warm up upper 70s. >> not bad. all right, katie, thank you so much for that. and a very good morning to all of you. so still very early, dark out, there and the vine it is closed, for those headed outright there, also see obviously lou wet it is, too, closed between the schuylkill, broad, both westbound direction and eastbound side for now. i'll let you know as soon as that clears. >> twelve and a half miles on the schuylkill between route one and 202, resurfaced project. twenty it, excuse me, heads up on. that will actually started yesterday between 9:00 p.m., 5:00 a.m. overnight. didn't actually take place because of all of the rain. heads up it is 12 and a half mile stretch on the schuylkill. >> this camera is showing you

near belmont. we will be talking a lot more about this coming up today and also all this week. plus, in that same stretch, schuylkill westbound from 476 to 202, between ten a.m. and 2:00 p.m., crews are out, there as well, jim, back over to you. >> thank so much, meisha. new this morning, authorities in south philadelphia are investigating deadly overnight shooting. police responded to the 2300 block every south marshall street after 11:00 last night. authorities tell us 18 year old man shot in the back. then managed to run inside nearby home for help. he was returned to the hospital, but died a short time later. >> they found moment recall shell casings on the 2300 block of south marshall. they also found a shell casing and a car that was shot up on the 600 block every west fitzgerald. >> so far, police do not have motive for this shooting and they've not identified any suspects. authorities tell us two eyewitnesses including the victim's brother are being interviewed by homicide detective. philadelphia police are on the hunt for a gunman this morning, after a woman is shot in the city's kensington

section there is happened 2800 block of north lee street around 9:00 last night. we are told the 26 year old victim was taken to the hospital where she is in stable condition. so far, to arrest haves been made. and no word on a motive. >> also new this morning, fire fighers have controlled a fire at a work space for artists in the callowhill section of philadelphia. now the fire broke out just before 2:00 this morning on the 300 block of north 11th street. firefighters tell cbs-3 the iron fire contained to outside fire escape. there are no injuries. >> and this is a live look from that scene right now, as you can see, crews are still on the scene, so far, it is not clear how that fire started. >> well, police are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest in the deadly stabbing of a woman behind a north philly school. thirty-three year old debra gulver was walking home around 2:30, saturday morning, when police say she was attacked in ray born park near dobbins high school, told she was brutally assaulted, fatally

stabbed 12 times. we spoke with the victim's friends who doesn't know why gulver was targeted. >> she had been talking about going to florida, getting away from all of this, and she never had the chance. she could have been anyone's daughter, anyone ace sister, or anyone's friends but she was my friends and she's gone. >> police want to speak with two young men seen in surveillance video. those witnesses called 911 from the scene but were not there when police showed up. >> every neighborhood, every block ... >> a prayer vigil was held near the spot in rayburn park near 21st and lehigh avenue where debra gulver lost her life. friends say she used the park behind dobbins high school as a short cut to her home. gulver was walking home from a bus stop after a night out with friends, but never made it home. resident say crimes like this one are becoming all too common. >> last couple of months have been really violent.

violence, senseless, getting discusting, getting disgusting. >> now, authorities are advising residents throughout the city to walk in pairs and not to walk in dimly lit desolate areas. police say they are determined to get this violence individual or group of individuals off the streets. >> protesters and counter protesters rally in northeast philadelphia in the wake after deadly officer involved shooting. members of black lives matter and other demanded justice for david jones outside the 15th police district on levick street last night. just feet away from where members of the back the blue supported police, jones was shot to death by philadelphia police officer, ryan earlier this month as he ran from aa traffic stop. >> i'm out here to support that black lives matter. i'm mother of three, again, black boys, but i'm here to support this family to make sure that justice is done.

>> this mother lost her son because after big bad police officer. it is not all that clear cut and simple? now, police report that jones pulled a gun on that officer. >> testimony resumes in the corruption trial of set william. yesterday philadelphia police deputy commissioner joe sullivan told the court that williams had approached him about muhammad ali the businessman, who testified last week. sullivan testified williams believed ali was being subjected to increased security measures at the airport. well, sullivan told jurors f.b.i. agents warned him not to get involved. >> going back, which i had many times, over what happened, considering how it unfolded, the information i received, and who i received it from, i certainly -- i certainly realize that i moved forward in good fate. >> now, williams faces bribery and other charges, if convicted he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. >> in california today a trial date could be set for another lawsuit against bill cosby.

in this suit, cosby is accused of sexually assaulting a teen, at the playboy mansion more than 40 years ago. accuser judy who is said she was 15 at the time. the hearing comes less than two weeks after pennsylvania jury dead-locked in the case against cosby. a mistrial was declared on charges that cosby drugged and molested andrea constand. well, the cape may county zoo in south jersey announce that rocky, their beloved siberian tiger, has passed away. the 16 year old tiger died saturday morning after experiencing health problems, associated with age. the tiger was born in 2001 at six flags great adventure, and had to be hand raised by zoo staff there. he made his way to cape may in 2002 where he became an instant rock star holding celebrity status at the zoo. you can visit rocky's memorial in the zoo courtyard where he's burried. >> well, the white house is warning syria against using chemical weapons on its own citizens. press secretary, sean spicer, made a statement last night, he said there is, quote,

potential evidence that syria is preparing a chemical attack. the us blamed the as add regime for april chemical attack on serial civilians. president trump ordered missile strikes in retaliation for that incident. the white house has not provided evidence to back up the recent claim. >> the congressional budget offers says 22 million americans would be without health insurance by 2026 if the proposed senate republican healthcare bill passes. the bill would end several coverage programs and allow insure tears charge older policyholders more. the us deficit would be cut by more than $300 billion, but those in the individual insurance market would see dramatic increases. >> from a political point of view, if you had a problem with the bill, the cbs -- >> the republican version keeps most of the subsidies, creates brand new sub city. all every those things together make me very concerned we won't fix the problem here. >> now, the senate must hold

procedural vote to move forward. now, only two republican senators can vote against the bill in order for it to pass. right now at least five oppose it. >> demonstrators protested outside the old city offices of pennsylvania republican senator pat toomey yesterday. tomb i is a second turn senator who has had role in draft wag he calls first step in repealing obamacare. >> today is national hiv testing day, an organization in south jersey making sure that folks are getting tested. today the new jersey area health education center offering free hiv testing at it camden county headquarters. it is located 514 cooper street in camden. you can get tested for free from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. according to health officials, 15% of the 1.2 million people living with hiv in the united states don't even know they have it. >> well, crews are battling a

thing for us, because just never if it will come over that mountain, and we have to evacuate. >> well driver and passenger of the car that crashed were taken to the hospital, both are expected to be okay. the nation's largest wild fire continues to burn in southern utah, forcing more than 1500 people from their homes. so far, the fire burning near this ski resort town every brianhead has scorched about 46,000 acres. it is also destroyed about 13 homes at this point. officials say the fire was started june 17th, by a suspect using a torch to burn weeds. dry and windy conditions had been fueling that fire. the blaze is at 10% contained. >> month after philadelphia rolled out attacks on sugary drinks, another major us city is following suit. cook county illinois will enact a new penny per ounce tax on carbonated soft drinks and sugary fruit drinks starting july 1st. the added tax will affect part of chicago, that are situated in cook county for folks in chicago this will be the

second added grocery tax that they'll deal with this year. >> you have attacks on bag, tax on -- you wonder why people are leaving the city. tacking them out of here. >> people will be walking out leaving items, because they're not satisfied with the tax. >> now, people here in philadelphia are paying 1.5 sent per ounce, compared to cook county's cents per ounce. off initials cook county estimated the added tax will bring in about $200 million per year. >> well, eyewitness video captures the crew after ferry rescuing people on singing both in ohio. a man on the ferry shot this video on lake erie sunday afternoon. the ferry's captain rerouted when he got the call about assigning g both. his crew acted quickly as the small boat capsized. he said the ferry's job to block the smaller boat from the wind during rescues. all seven passengers on the sunken boat made it safely back to lands. >> close call. >> time 4:45, katie here with another look at your forecast,

felt great outside yesterday, katie. can we duplicate it today? >> no! >> welcome back. >> it won't be all that bad. i know, i cambridge g some additional rain, some additional thunder storms, all-in-all looking like pretty nice looking forecast, do you have outdoor plans or this is your vacation week, and maybe up early with us watching us from the shore, something like that, we do have a couple of thunderstorms that we have to dodge. i would say all-in-all, if you have outdoor plans, should get them n about to get pretty steamy outside. some of the thunderstorms helping to cool off the street, driving in, could you see, more like most favorite weather phenomenon, just cool rain, cooling down, the streets, and you see the steam lifting off of it from a hot summer day prior. do you still have some wet weather across central pennsylvania, some of this will cross through, all courtesy of very weak cold front passage that takes place today, so later on this afternoon, see couple of spotty showers, thunderstorms, then high pressure bullets in, that will stick with us for couple every days, that sluggishly truck east, then, and keeps the heat building

with time. so, as we watch, you know, the next couple of hours here, see the first of this batch of heavy thunderstorms came through overnight, gets on out of here, leaves behind nothing more than damp roads for the majority of the morning rush, even by 6:00 a.m., though, place like trenton, mercer county, north most philadelphia county, could still ends up with residual shower. call it partly sunny for the better part of the day. and as we look forward to the early afternoon, though, start to see little pockets of showers, storms, firing up on storm scan 36789 so, it will be something that we have to monitor later in the day. meanwhile quick peak at the area temperatures at the moment as they stands, definitely cooler where the rain has already been through. take a look at reading, allentown, up ear's currently for you there and looking forward it is about to get hot my friends. pretty seasonable by thursday. look at friday, saturday, meisha, couple of days back to the 90s. >> i'm liking that, thank you so much, katie. very good morning to all of you. so yes, speaking about the rain, looking at the roadways, looking very, very wet, and slick out there, slow you

least part of it at least the city auctioning off the stainless steel base of the love statue. according to the auction website mutisabid. katie is thinking can i make that into piece of furniture? so far there are 16 bids, bidding started the at $100, now up to $410 now. the auction ends july 11, the win letter have to pick up the pedestal themselves. i don't think they have shipping involved. >> overnight storms may have woken you up. katie how is the morning rush looking? >> i think jim it will get a lot better since we had very heavy rain that rumble through here with thunderstorms in the last hour and a half or so. i'm going to show you where it little cluster every storms is on the radar right now, right after the break. but also talk about a nice little stretch of coming our way and the heat begins to build, lots to get to

some sunshine, did have thunderstorms rumbling through the overnight, that's a dry boardwalk you currently see, some of the beach crews are out early this morning getting the sands all prepped for looks like all of the beach-goers that will be comb that shore line later today. all-in-all looks like pretty great beach day. but we will have some showers and thunderstorms to dodge in very scattered fashion later this afternoon. for now, though, looking at the last three hour loop on storm scan3, you will notice, some pretty heavy rain working it way up the new jersey turnpike into new york at this point. so philly is basically done with this, for the most part, our region as a whole is done with this. the bulk of the morning drive is going to be just fine, but it is later this afternoon, and i would say as early as 1:00, 2:00 in the afternoon, spotty showers, storms, begin to pop up with weak frontal passage, meantime, meisha, about to heat up in a big way. >> all of that, getting warm, katie, thank you. still dealing with wet roadways, the vine, westbound
