chris christie: don't suffer. don't wait. call 844 reach nj or visit reachnj.gov. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news." >> right now at noon, 46 drug dealers taken off the streets, a big drug bust goes down in chester county. officials call the imagine or take-down operation wild fire. good afternoon everyone i'm jim donovan. rahel has the afternoon off. live in west chester where the chester county district attorney just wrapped up a news conference on the investigation. alicia? >> reporter: jim, the district attorney says last year the county saw 97 drug overdose deaths, this year, 50, in just the first four months, the county trending to see 150 drug overdose deaths in 2017. operation wild fire is supposed to be a glimpse into how aggressive the county

getting, at combating the heroin and opioid epidemic. >> operation wild fire in eight week joint drug operation between six police departments, in chester county, and county detective, has netted 46 arrests. >> sometimes you've got to set a fire to stop a fire. which is what we did here. we took a bunch of our drug cops and had them for two month do nothing but go after heroin dealers and opioid dealers. >> chester county district attorney tom hogan said the operation took out street level drug dealers in every region of chester county, among those arrested the father after man who made headlines last month, for an unprovoke attack against a man with cerebral palsy. >> so while his son was beating up a man with a disability, berry baker, senior was selling us morphine. heck of a family. >> police who headed this operation say while it was aimed at low level drug

dealers, it is meant to send a bigger message to those pushing pills and dealing drugs in this county. >> we may have only just scratched the surface with this. numerous arrests that we made in this operation itself may be coming to an end but i can assure you that our combined efforts will continue. we will work together and we're not done. >> the county hasn't yet quantified how many pounds of drugs were actually taken off the street. considering few grains of heroin, few grains, can kill you, likely, every bit taken off saved some lives here. reporting live in chester county, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." thank you so much, alicia. meanwhile in other news, testimony resumes for day six in the federal corruption trial of philadelphia district attorney set william. philadelphia bar owner michael wise returned to the witness stands this morning for more questioning by the prosecution and defense. he testified yesterday, that he had purchased plane ticket for williams and his family, and also gave williams cash.

type pack of days. meantime at the moment, very light breeze, humidity has stayed pretty low, all of this wet weather and the clouds coming courtesy of passage of frontal boundary, pretty weak one all-in-all. see in the last several hours loop, couple of stray showers fired up around the shore points, but those have since moved out. just generally got nice clear sky for the moment anyway. current temperatures are in the low or mid 70s, but actually flirting with zero eight already out in wilmington, 76 currently in atlantic city, we take you elsewhere around the region, just through some of the outlying suburbs, palmyra, currently checking in at 76 degrees. seventy-two in mt. holly. where our national weather service regional headquarters is located. again any showers thunderstorms that fire up this afternoon or early evening by the way, those will likely be very, very spotty. our daytime high, technically cooler than average, but it will warm enough that you will walk out the door without a jacket and be just fine, late june after all. 80 degrees our expected high meanwhile around the city and the winds will remain light the rest of the day. but coming up: we've got some

officials said this morning, there has been activity at the syrian air base used in past chemical attacks. ambassadors to the united nation, back up the claim saying preparations were seen like those before april 4th attack using toxic nerve gas. that attack killed dozens of people, including children and prompted us air strikes. >> in new york city, a subway train derails near a station in harlem. frightened passengers left in the dark this morning after the accident caused power to go out on the train. passengers describe the train vibrating widely and buckling as it went off the rales. fire officials say a handful of people were treated therefore minor injuries. >> the 14 year old delaware girl who fell from amusement park ride is now out of the hospital. officials say the girl was treated for unspecified injuries after falling 25 feet into the arms of bystanders. the sky ride at six flags great escape remains closed while the park conduct an internal investigation. police say the girl's own actions caused her to slip.

>> the teen son of retired major baseball player, keith lockhart, on life support after he was hit by a baseball during a tournament. the ball struck adjacent lockhart in the face on june 17th. in the following days, his nose began bleeding uncontrollably. after several more procedures, doctors decided to heavily sedate the 15 year old and put him on life support. cbs news medical contributor doctor david augustis said it is possible he was bleeding long before it was detected. >> we see it sometimes when people are hit and the bleeding in the head doesn't show up inside the head until days to week later. >> family members say lockhart has not had any additional bleeding since a procedure on sunday, and they're asking the people continue to pray for him. >> in new jersey's ongoing legal effort to offer sports betting, the u.s. supreme court announced just this morning that it will hear the state's appeal in its next session. new jersey has been battling for years to make sports betting legal, and its casinos and racetracks, but four major

>> get a load of this, rare waterspout touches down on lake erie, the spout churned up by some thunderstorms 20 miles northeast of cleveland, while the spout looks relatively harm levels, now, these things can be dangerous, waterspouts can create wind gusts of almost 07 n even flip over some small boats. don't want to see that when i'm on the lake this summertime, as long as they keep it up near cleveland. safe side, katie? >> no waterspout today? >> no watt he err spouts in the forecast today, yes, scary stuff though, because a lot of people go boating whether on the lake or out the ocean so ever hear of the small craft advisories, specific forecast for the marine folks, got to listen to them for sure.

but you said it, no waterspout in the forecast. >> okay, that's good. >> more heat and actually i think there might even be thunderstorm here today. yes, definitely some active weather to talk about. but at the moment, things are pretty tame. all-in-all the wind is pretty light. it is comfortably mild outside. nothing too harsh when it comes to the heat, that, however, is a theme later down the road. we have holiday weekend coming up, so some of you might actually n looking forward to that. let's get you first and for most, more region wide storm scan3, notice, here, up-state new york, portions at least of new england, you still have couple of showers here and there, and, again, you will notice even on the back side of this frontal boundary that's already passed through, these speckles start to show up either some clouds, or some showers, and again that will be firing up for us, maybe even over the span of the next hour or so. so we will take you through future weather in a second here. meanwhile, this is a pretty calm looking view of the eastern two thirds of the united states, all-in-all, high pressure about to replace the system leaving today.

it will set up shop for couple of days, but with high pressure setting up shop in the middle of summer make not quite middle of but at least part of summertime, start to see the heat build with no problem. >> so, looks pretty good, one hour lapses, take a look what happened. few speckles start to show up there. clearly not everyone hit by this, and, you know, if i walk out the door without an umbrella today watching us maybe from the barber shop, something like, that i don't think you have to worry about there is not necessarily going to absolutely get hit by anything, but this will be around, and there could even be brief but locally steady downpour in a couple of spots. notice, these little speckles will be showing up for the rest of the afternoon and through the evening, then overnight hits, winds calms down and we sky clears out nicely. temperature drops efficiently under clear sky even in summertime. so tonight will be a cool night and tomorrow absolute gem. gets us up until 11:00 a.m. nothing but clear sky, i can only imagine the sunrise

that's going to be awaiting us here this time tomorrow. so we will take a look, meanwhile, outside to the dew point, still low, generally nothing higher than low 60s for us, mid even up ear's, so with a light win, good hair day, even though we have the clouds, you had some thunderstorms, rumble through early this morning, all long gone, and left behind this very comfortable air mass, that will last us right through tomorrow. by thursday, humidity starting to creep up. it will continue to do just that. over the course of time. so beautiful beach day. certainly plenty of folks taking advantage every that. outside boards walk plaza, and with some sunshine for the rest of the day looks like perfect beach weather in the city, that spotty shower or under this earl storm still going to be out there, 08 degrees at best for daytime high. that's about five below average. late june, we look ahead, the beginning of july. couple of zero nine agree days, jim, also that frontal passage, talk about in the weekends watch, get hearing
