. live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs "eyewitness news" at 11:00. tonight at 11:00, a suspect is now in custody. charged with first-degree murder in the road rage shooting of 18-year-old bianca roberson. 28-year-old david desper turned himself into police early this morning hours after new surveillance video showed a red pickup truck driving through a neighborhood. i'm natasha brown, thanks for joining us. they say >> reporter: he turned himself in for the wednesday deadly road rage shooting in chester county

>> this is a story of a savage and senseless murder. >> reporter: a news conference, chester county district attorney tom hogan announce murder charges against david desper accusing him of shooting 18-year-old bianca roberson in the head as she drove her chevy malibu along route 100 in west goshen township. he was allegedly in the red pickup truck scene in surveillance video next to roberson's car, the two vehicles trying to merge into the same lane. >> this defendant wasn't happy with the way it was going, he pulled out a gun, and killed this young woman >> after david desper surrendered his parent placed a note on their home saying our hearts go out to the roberson family. they executed a search warrants and at that home in trainer, police located a .40 caliber smith and wesson gun preliminarily. the gun matches the one used to kill bianca roberson and located

his red pickup truck at this property in glen mills >> we seen the red truck earlier this week saw it and didn't even put two and two together. >> it's shocking. >> reporter: jeffrey smith is a neighbor. shocked in part because of david desper's behavior hours before he turned himself into police. he was seen acting normal, casually eating pizza at this parlor near his home >> i'm glad he turned himself in >> david desper is in jail being held without bail meanwhile the family of bianca roberson was at the news conference earlier. they asked for privacy and some space, we honored that request. in west goshen township, alicia nieves cbs3 "eyewitness news." jacksonville university the school roberson was scheduled to attend in the fall released a statement about the incoming freshman saying, in part, the university is working on plans to memorize ms. roberson and should have an updated announcement in the coming week. our thoughts and prayers remain with her parents, family and friends as they deal with their

grief from this terribly sad and senseless tragedy. following other breaking news, out of ocean county, memorial at the lakewood was defaced were any an sent a sem mask message. a derogatory term was written across the top. christopher perino is offering a $10,000 reward. officials are investigating a car crash in bucks county. police officers say it happened on the 1,000 block of newportville road before 8:00 this evening, the driver struck 67-year-old woman before hitting a brick wall and crashing into a home. we're to hold that woman is now in critical condition at a nearby hospital. driver was not injured >> a ugi utilities worker was killed in a house explosion in lancaster county. at least two others were injured

in the blast at the manor township home just after noon today. the home was destroyed and according to ugi, the employees were trapped inside the house but the family that lives there is alive. so far, no word on what caused that blast. a bucks county firefighter is recovering tonight from heat exhaustion following a two alarm fire in quakertown. about 100 firefighters responded to a house fire on the 1400 block of bethlehem pike. fortunately no one else was injured in the fire and no word yet on what sparked the blaze. new jersey govern chris christie says the state government remains shut down at this point because there is no money. during a news conference this afternoon, governor christy said if the state legislature sent him a budget, the shutdown would be over. instead he says lawmakers are choosing to hold out. but representatives of the state legislature say they're working hard to come up with a compromise >> they're not coming back here in an election year, david in the middle of the summer to hold

hearings and vote on a bill. by the way hold hearings, he didn't commit to passing the bill >> 41 members to vote and open up. that's why i'm here today. >> right now, only essential government services like state police, correctional facilities and hospitals remain open. governor christie will convene both houses again tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to talk about the budget. the government is debating the state's $35 million spending plan. 46 states needed to pass a budget by july 1st. nine failed to do that. putting services at risk. the state of illinois hasn't had a budget in three years. like new jersey, maine began a partial shutdown over the weekend. maine state employees are already out of work following a tax impasse between governor and democrats in the legislature. it was a beautiful day today, if you had the chance to soak up sun be maybe a little bit humid.

this was the scene near the philadelphia art museum. families were out and about for a stroll on the parkway amid some holiday weekend festive teas. what's it looking like >> it's a little bit on the humid side of things, but nothing compared to what we dealt with yesterday. at warm night out there in philadelphia, temperatures checking in around 80 down the shore. we're in the upper 70's mid 60s in the poconos, we have winds little bit more of a westerly component to the winds, that has helped things not feel quite as humid as what we dealt with yesterday. due points in the 60's, nothing compared to the lower 70's that we had yesterday afternoon. we have just a couple of clouds showing up on storm scan three and one little shower in new castle in delaware but a quiet night and mostly clear skies and warm as well as we head to the rest of the holiday weekend.

leaking fuel at the time. more than 250 passengers evacuated an amtrak passenger train heading to seattle washington after it derailed this afternoon. no one was seriously injured but dozens are having to scramble to find another way to travel. several cars of the train tipped over near the waters of the bay. protesters from cities coast to coast marched calling for the impeachment of president trump. in los angeles, people held signs and chanted not my president. they alleged the president has violated the united states constitution and say americans are not safe with him in the oval office. in philadelphia, protesters gathered in response to the impeachment marches here in center city. and across the country. the pro trump supporters wore make america great again hats and they they want to remind people why they voted for the

president. the supporters were touting the agenda of smaller government and say he is keeping the country safe. president trump lashed out again on twitter this time with a mock video targeting cnn. the news network called the tweet juvenile. >> reporter: president trump continued his war on the media, tweeting a mock video targeting cnn. the original is when he appeared on wrestle mania, the tweeted version shows him wrestling to the ground with a figure head is replaced with a cnn logo. targeting the anchors of msnbc. supporters say the president has a right to defend himself when he feels he's being attacked >> cnn called the tweet july.

favors. i believe the future favors those who believe in policies who believe in international order based. who believe on principles and individuals. >> obama also praised indonesia for the rising economy and progress. the rapper who performed at the night club in little rock arkansas saturday morning was arrested on unrelated charges in this mass shooting that happened there. ricky hampton of memphis tennessee was taken into custody in a fugitive warrant. so far, no arrests have been made in a shooting at the power ultra lounge. 28 people were injured at the club. authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute in the crowd and may have been gang related. hours later, more than 100 community members all gathered and prayed for an end to the violence. >> these kids, they need to put

. nasa want to crash into an asteroid on purpose they're hoping it could potentially save the planet. to do it they need this space craft called the dart stand for double asteroid redirection test. it's in the preliminary design phase, it's about the size of a refrigerator. the goal is to use it to knock dangerous asteroid off course. nasa hopes to have the dart ready by october of 2022. meantime people in the town of haz let michigan have a favorite mascot. the tradition start nearly 30 years ago for collin campbell when he was a runner. campbell can be seen along a popular road every day with an american flag in hand and a pup by his side, he's a marine corp veteran who want to show people passing by how much he loves his country >> i want to see if someone

swimming by. it's always exciting to see that and it was a great day to be down the shore. that's for surely and even the delaware beaches, at this hour, we have plenty of people walking the boards. a lot of stuff going on, a lot of festive teas, right here in philadelphia, fantastic weather to go along with it and rest of the holiday weekend is in great shape as well. here's a live look at stormscan 3, other than just a couple of clouds across the region. things are looking great. we're in for a quiet night. we do have a stray shower in new castle in delaware but looking quiet into the overnight hours tonight. it will be warm and it was warm with the high temperature around 91 officially at philadelphia international airport the average high is 86, we were well above that. but we weren't nearly as humid. it felt maybe a little bit more comfortable out there albeit hot. 76 in millville, we have 76 in

pemberton, 78 in cherry hill. it's warm in the city at 80. we have 79 in palmyra and trenton we're checking in around 80 degrees at this hour, up in quaker town, 72, allentown, it's 76. we're at 66 in mount pocono. that is the cool spot on the map. due points are in the 60's. now remember, yesterday, they were in the lower 70's. that made it feel extremely uncomfortable out there. due points are going to be in check as we head to the next couple of days not to say humidity will not be noticeable it won't be nearly oppressive or insufferable. we'll be in the not bad to steamy category, we'll take what we can get. it's better than yesterday. a quiet night. we'll see plenty of sunshine to start out your day monday, atlantic city wildwood, plenty of sunshine as we start out the day. heading into the afternoon, we will have to watch out for a stray shower or pop-up
