moving so they are dumb continuing down inches of rainfall. we have heavy pockets of rain from dover, down into milford, down into georgetown as well, rain continuing to come down, and we also did have this slow moving cell over portions of cumberland county, thankfully that cell has dissipated but did have a lifetime of quite a while. we still have a flash flood warning in effect for cumberland county, new jersey, central parts until 7:15 this evening. check out these rainfall totals in new jersey, likely ongoing right now across parts of the delaware, millville picking up two and a half inches of rain, over two and a half inches on have rain in 45 minutes in parts of the cumberland county and 2 inches and 20 minutes in limings, mill. part on it parkway we will keep a close eye on that radar much of the activity will stay south along a stalled frontal boundary but we have to keep an eye to the sky for next several hours, patchy cloud, temperatures around 82 degrees mostly looking good for the concert tonight, and for fire

"eyewitness news" report's leash a nieves has been on the parkway all day and she's with us now, tell us what comes next, alycia? >> reporter: well, jessica, in just a little while we can look forward to major performances, music legends and then big fire works show at 9:30 but all day long it has been nothing but fun for several who come here every year, and for some like myself hoff been here, come here for the first time. party on the parkway. >> happy fourth of july. >> reporter: for many in the region it is a tradition on the fourth of july. >> always coming out here with family, enjoying music, festivities. >> reporter: for some others like myself, it is a new experience, navigating the

spirit on this fourth of july. >> ♪ >> hundreds lined high street in pottstown this morning, for their fourth of july parade. law enforcement and veterans groups all took part and parade was cancelled last year because of lack of funding, rotary club of pottstown organized and sponsored today 's event. and those kid helped kick off july 4th fun in doyletown bucks county with the decorated bike contest. riders pedaled over bubble wrap on the ground of the castle, today's celebration also included a water melon eating contest, games, food and live music. a lot of people aren't spending the holiday, enjoying sun, sand, surf down the shore , this is a live look at the packed beach necessary ocean city, new jersey. when this picture perfect day turns to tonight, get readied for a spectacle in the sky,

their plans. kids are in the water, parents are digging in the umbrellas, and life guards are back on duty. >> just a couple days off that we didn't expect to get off. >> reporter: is there something missing at this state park this independents day. >> we came out two weeks ago and it was more packed then it is right now. >> usually crazy busy but it is crazy weekends in the summer and right now it is not that bad. >> usually many more people at this park. >> reporter: jim powell and his families were first ones at beach this morning and hoping things would pick up. >> but because of the change of plans over the weekend people turned away because parks were closed people made other plans. >> basically we were coming out on a saturday but since with all of the state parks being closed. >> reporter: visitor christian and his daughter samantha were among those who rearranged their holiday weekend but they decided last minute to still get in a beach day. >> everybody who has plans to do something just got put on to them and killed a lot of what they will were do, and

political backlash. >> ultimately we are won that suffered from it all, and it was sad that they could not get together beforehand or that they could not close some of the government but leave the parks and recreation and all of the other emergency services opened like they did because what does it take to keep a park opened? >> reporter: this wasn't only state park we visited? coming up at 6:00 we will take you up to rancocas state park, it is also very slow there as well. at par vin state park henry rossoff for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". if you have a driver's license, registration or inspection stick their expired during the governmental shut down over the last few days you have a little bit more time to renew those. state motor vehicle commission is giving drivers a two day extension and documents will be valid until thursday, and the offices have been closed since saturday. they are scheduled to reopen tomorrow. police continue to investigate discovery of an infant sized casket, on a sidewalk in north philadelphia eyewitness spotted the casket

's latest missle test this one a potential game changer. state television reported it was a hasan 14 inter continental ballistics missle, u.s. officials now say all indications are that it was a icbm. it flew for 40 minutes reaching altitude of 1500 miles, before splashing into the sea of japan roughly 600 miles from the launch site and with the potential range of 4,000 miles, it is capable of reaching alaska. >> not much further then that for 10,000 miles or so would it need to reach new york or washington d.c. so north cover reace on pace to have a nuclear weapon capable of reaching continental united states. >> president trump warned china that the u.s. will act on its own if beijing does not tighten economic pressure but president's options for going it alone are limited. >> there is very little you can do, except sanction him, every time he does something, and build our missle defenses. >> reporter: even direct talks with the north are unlikely to

it is super bowl of eating , people from all over the country gather in new york for the annual nathan's famous fourth of july hot dog eating contest and cbs news correspondent nicki batiste is in coney island with the winners. >> champion of the world. >> reporter: joey chestnut won a tenth title at nathan's famous july 4th hot dog eating contest in coney island. >> yes. >> joey chestnut, he is like tiger wood into hot dogs, baby >> reporter: chestnut consumed 72 franks and buns in 10 minutes, a record for this competition. >> i make my money performing, i have been really lucky with how i have performed. >> reporter: new jersey's carmen sincoti took second place with 62 hot dogs. in the women's competition mic i soto of lah las vegas ate 41 hot dogs and buns. >> once i got my rhythm going, it was fun. >> this lively crowd came from all over the country and here not just for hot dog battles

but for wild atmosphere. >> definitely the scene. we are enjoying it. it is rowdy, fun. >> it is probably most american thing anyone can ever think of just hot dogs in excess and everyone is really into it and patriotic and excited. >> reporter: carter brown and his family came from florida for the event. >> i have been watching this for a while and always wanted to see it. >> reporter: carter hopes to compete when he gets older but he has his work cut out for him, right now he says most hot dogs he can eat in one sitting is four. in coney island, new york, nicki batiste for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". in case you are wondering, because i'm sure you are. >> i am. >> joey chestnut gobbled down more than 20,000 calories and almost 1300 grams of fat. >> wow, he will have to go for a brisk jog i think afterward. >> dawn even move after that happens. >> much better to talk about being outside, and maybe eating hot dogs in moderation

in moderation. >> nice sunshine across the area, through much of the day but we are starting to cloud up in center city philadelphia due to storms off to our south , mainly concentrate add cross parts of the delaware and those storms just are not budging. but temperatures right now we are hot, 88 degrees right now in philadelphia, wind out of the southe at 5 miles an hour so not too much of a breeze to help cool us off but rain did cool a lot of beach goers off check out this image rehoboth beach, where is everybody? just an hour ago this was packed but rain is coming down , you can see umbrellas out, people fleeing the board, fleeing the beach because of that shower and storm activity that has developed over last couple of hours, flood advisory in effect for much of the delaware, dover, milford, georgetown, millsboro that runs until this evening we could see localized flooding because of the heavy nature of the rainfall and prolonged nature of the rainfall as these storms just are not budging. searing wind with driving storm surround are very light

and they are staying stationary. we are moving down toward south of the city, that will prolong, heavy rainfall two to 3 inches of rain possible. we have seen that in parts of the south jersey, cumberland count which this cell that has dissipated we are starting to see dissipation in this cluster of cells, even down in sussex county seeing that long lived cell west of long neck. we have scattered thunderstorm activity northward of the delaware border as we look toward lancaster county. keep a close eye on this next couple of hours, these storms could sneak into center city philadelphia but at this point we will stay mainly dry but here are cells across portions of delaware, embedded thunder and gusty wind, light green, out flow, that is rain cold air disseminated out from those cells and generating some light rainfall, we are picking that up on our radar imagery but for fire works tonight do have that place you could seek shelter. we have one of these storms develop overhead, chance is minimal but not, non-existent

otherwise partly cloudy conditions and temperatures not feeling too bad in the 70 's. future weather showing thus particular model bringing in those cells up toward center city philadelphia, other models are not but as we head into midnight a lot of activity, will kind of wayne as we lose the heating of the day so we will be quiet overnight tonight and then for our wednesday, cloud, to increasing sunshine, not quite as hot, east wind developing and high temperature of 84 degrees and temperature while they are toasty we are at 87 in wilmington. eighty-six in allentown. but very apparent where we're seeing rain, 77 in millville and 73 in dover right now. down the shore temperatures still warm 82 in cape may but sea breeze is cooling things off in ocean city as we are's down to 74 degrees. dew points not too intense in the 50's and lower 60's. not too humid. that will change as we head into thursday and friday and dealing with steamy to oppressive conditions, and we will up the rain chances as well but as far as tomorrow is concern, not too bad, and

he was born 11 months ago today before it was known he was suffering from a rare terminal disease, before he found himself in the center of an ethical, legal battle that now involves pope frances and president trum hospital yesterday tweeted if we can help little charlie guard as per hour friends in the uk and pope, we would be delighted to do so. but british doctors insist and british court as gree there is no help, and no hope, for charlie. he is blind, deaf. he cannot move his limbs, or breathe on his own. a condition so rare, that he is thought to be only, one of 16 children in the world to suffer from it. but his parents, chris guard and connie eighths have refused to give up raising $1.7 million to pay for experimental medical treatment in the u.s. >> we don't get this opportunity, he is going to die. >> is what alternative. >> he hasn't got anything to lose. we know that we have done, even if it doesn't work, which

i think it will, we will know we have done everything that we can for him. >> reporter: as it stands europe's highest court has decided charlie's life support will be switched off. if president trump holds any sway in this case at all, ultimately the decision still rests with the hospital staff here, whether they have had a change of heart and charlie's allowed to travel to the united states or whether they will switch off life support system as planned. charlie dagada for cbs news, london. police are investigating what caused this fire that destroyed a 100 year-old home in delaware county. it happened overnight on bone sal avenue in olden. neighbors say the home has been vacant for some time and work on the property stopped recently. the flames forced neighbors to evacuate their home but no one was hurt. our own "eyewitness news" anchor jim donovan was part of the very special philadelphia tradition, this july 4th who

will day. the bell rang out in the town of historic independent hall where jim was master of ceremonies in the led freedom ring ceremony at the square. sons of the revolution organized that event every year. it is actually required by federal law that the bell ring on interest's day at exactly 2:00 p.m. and with the jim at the helm today they were right on time. thirteen children became u.s. citizens at betsy ross house this afternoon. the children ranged in age from nine to 17, and they come from 10 different countries including algeria, chine, egypt, ivory coast and syria. across the nation u.s. is welcoming nearly 15,000 new citizens in more than 65 independent theme naturalization ceremonies. president trump is celebrating his first independent day with a picnic for military families at the

white house. first lady melania trump is hosting the vent event with her husband but they do not end there. military families and white house staff will be treated to a fire works show later on tonight. and drivers out there getting a nice gift for independence day as gas prices continue to fall. prices haven't been this low on july 4th since 2005. national average for a gallon of regular, stands at $2.23, and experts say enjoy that while it lasts, crude oil prices are creeping backup and analyst say that means prices at the pump will jump soon as well. as for our area delaware has the cheapest gas locally, averaging about 2.16 for a gallon of regular, and in new jersey, it is $2.18 and drivers in pennsylvania are paying the highest prices around here at $245 a gallon. many people will raise a glass to celebrate the fourth of july, more americans are drinking spirits like whiskey and that is leading to a nationwide boom in the number

a dangerous explosion rocks a yard in england watch as the walls, and roof, are blown off that shed.

the debris quickly caught fire , and fire fighters think a broken light fixture ignited gas vapors inside of the shed. but the damage was so extensive that they could not figure out exactly where that gas came from. good reminder to properly store gas in containers, and keep tonight a well ventilated area. run. >> run, right behind you. >> a family's heart racing even counter with a group of wild monkeys is caught on video. they were visiting silver spring state park in florida last week and monkey seemed calm at first but then the animals had surrounded them and were chasing them. no one was hurt but wild life officials say these types of monkeys should only be viewed at a distance. coming up next why christie teigen wants fans to stop sending her

slow moving downpours mainly concentrated south of the city , prolonged heavy rainfall and we could see them in the order of two to 3 inches and we have across parts of the south jersey and delaware as well. so keeping an eye on that radar for the party on the parkway tonight, 7:00 o'clock we do have that chance of the isolated thunder shower, maybe moving its way north of philadelphia, but otherwise dealing with patchy cloud and temperatures in the lower 80's storm scan three is showing us our activity starting to de minute ash cross parts of the delaware but still watch out for some localized flooding, as these cells have been long lived on the order of the few hours. you can see barely moving in their forward momentum, and we are starting to see dissipation, though and lighter intensity as far as rainfall is concern, also a lot of the lightening has been since december pated but these cells are moving their way northward and developing along a stationary boundary that is slowly moving its way north. we are seeing a cell just south of the chester county right now. this could have small hail

embedded and 40 miles an hour wind just outsidee nottingham at hockessin you could be in line for this and also new castle county delaware. that cell is moving a little bite at 15 miles an hour. doppler radar over last hour showing us where we have not had storms we have had anything but significant accumulation was those downpours and need advisory in effect for parts of the delaware as we head throughout the evening hours and it does include sussex and kent county delaware over next several hours due to that threat of the localized flooding. as we head in the overnight period slow moving thunder shower, south 71 degrees, still warm tonight but not as hot tomorrow east wind develops cloud continue on creasing sunshine quiet day 84 y in the poconos, pleasant 75 and sunshine more cloud down the shore and that east wind will hold temperatures to the mid to upper 70's along the coast tomorrow. thursday and friday get ready for some oppressive humidity

displays, lauren. >> we had sunshine through much of the holiday inn center city philadelphia, skies have clouded over but it is helping us out in the temperature department feeling a bit cooler but these cloud are a product of showers and thunderstorms off to our south that have chased many indoors on this fourth of july holiday checking in on storm scan three you can see concentration of the shower and thunderstorm activity all south of philadelphia at this point this activity is forming along the stalled frontal boundary that is trying to slowly move its way northward and we want to get it off to the south and maintain fire works weather for most of as you cross the area but certainly watching shower activity moving through parts of the delaware. we did have a formal flood advisory that has been since cancelled as our activity is starting to diminish across the parts of the delaware. watch out for localized flooding and ponding this is sneaking its way in chester county. head up in extreme southwest chester county and gaining some strength we could see gusty wind, lightening with that cell and even small hail moving
