right now at 11:00, a brief pause to the 4th of july festivities, drenching rains for concert goers to use chairs as umbrellas. eventually the rain stopped. and the party continued. grand finally did not disappoint, fireworks lit up the sky above philadelphia art museum. philly knows how to throw a party. good evening and happy 4th of july everyone. i'm jessica dean. ukee washington is off. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff had a front row seat to the fun, live on the parkway with a wrap-up at the excitement. alex? >> what a dazzling display. we truly did have a front row seat as the fireworks shut off from the steps of the art museum, core graphed perfectly with the music playing through the. and you have to wonder in moments like that what our founding fathers would think of a triumph tribute to the sacrifices so we could live in a

free nation to pursue our individual happiness. i think that truly meant to something to the people out here. they stuck it through a significant downpour just a few hours ago and i think it is safe to say it was worth it. ♪ where liberty dwells, there is my country, said ben franklin on the parkway that bears his name, thousands celebrated the document that earned the names and signatures of 55 more at this year's welcome america finally event >> there's a lot of reasons and freedom is the main one. >> it's good to kind of come and spend america's birthday in the birth place. >> freedom. >> reporter: 12 score and one year since the bold declaration of independence, pop orchestra ushered in an evening of red, white and blue pride. >> pretty great indeed.

>> reporter: phillies own boys to men commemorated on the parkway's main stage. if their harmon knees weren't enough to bring the crowd to their feet. a wild pop-up downpour did the trick. but the crowds didn't go far after a rain delay, headliner mary jay blige rocked the house. celebrating in the birth place it does not get better than that. reporting live from the ben franklin parkway, alexandria hoff cbs3. a dazzling display lit up the delaware along the camden waterfront, crowds gathered on

both sides of the river were in for great show. and the crowds couldn't take their eyes off the sky for another spectacular show in south jersey. margate, where people celebrated independence day with a beach fireworks display. and as you saw in some areas got a soaking rain this evening as spotty storms moved through, meteorologist lauren casey is joinings with a first look at the forecast and lauren a lot of people headed back to work tomorrow. we're looking at steamy and stormy me days ahead. >> that is correct. we'll have one quiet day as we get settled in but stormy and steamy conditions taking over thursday and friday but the storms were the trend for a few of us, you can see the shower or storm concentration points southward to the north. no problems this evening and no wet weather to contend with. we picked up quite a bit of

rainfall because we had heavy intensity and slow moving cells. so check out some of these rainfall totals, millville, two and a half inches of rain, some parts of cumberland county, new jersey, picking up two inches of rainfall and about 20 minutes time earlier today. philadelphia, over a quarter of an inch of rainfall, now the activity has come to an end the last of our cells moving offshore, we do have a lingering cell trying to work its way into you southwestern chester county. the last cell moving offshore but dropping a few rain drops over beach haven en as we head to tomorrow, will be a quieter day, clouds to increasing sunshine, not quite as hot, 84 degrees with that easterly wind but we will talk about the active days on thursday and friday. before it looks like we could have with your out of nice nicest weekends of the summer.

4th of july festivities have been going on all day throughout the region, the independence day parade marched through old city philadelphia. dozens of floats, marching bands and military groups participated in that parade down chestnut. 4,000 people took part >> that all men are created equal >> members of boys to men read excerpts from the declaration of independence. the philly pops big band performed patriotic tunes, kenney presented ga, loti a and award. it is given to those who achieve more than originally thought possible. it was also a patriotic scene in delaware county this morning. people there marched down chester pike in ridley township for their annual 4th of july parade. decorated their bikes with balloons as area fire companies

drove their fire truck throughs the parade route. the state owned beaches and parks in new jersey are back in business, crowds were light today in the wake of a government shutdown that caused the closures. it was slow day at rancocus state park. even though governor chris christie signed a budget and reopened, the damage was done >> i was appalled, you know, no state park should be closed down due to impasses in the state ladies and gentlemen legislature. >> locals say parvins is one of the busiest day. >> president trump celebrated his first day in office for a picnic for military families, milania trump hosted the event along with her husband. a fireworks show followed the

picnic. this as the president prepared to leave for the second international trip tomorrow, as he gets ready. president trump may be facing one of his greatest foreign policy tests to date. north korea launched its first successful intercontinental missile, one that could potentially strike parts of the united states. david spunt is live in our stat center with more on this developing story. david? >> this story is constantly changing within the last couple hour, the united states and south korea announced they have fired back way missile drill to send a message to north korea. the white house is requesting a united nations meeting on north korea as soon as possible. >> and we do have challenges but we will handle those challenges. believe me. >> perhaps a direct message to the north korean regime after it was announced the country, yet again launched another missile test, this time experts say it

may be most serious >> there's very little you can do except sanction him every time he does something and build our missile defenses. >> state television reported it was a 14 intercontinental ballistic missile. all indications said it was they claimed. president trump took to twitter 10 kimmed out kim jong-un asking if the leader had anything better to do with his life. the missile flew for nearly 40 minutes, reaching an al attitude about 1500 miles before splashing into the sea of japan. originally 600 miles from the launch site with a potential range of near 4,000 miles, it's cable of reaching alaska >> it would ned to reach new york or washington, dc, so north korea is on pace to have a nuclear weapon capable of reaching the united states >> president trump has warned

china the u.s. will act on its own. experts say direct talks between the united states and north korea will unlikely stop its nuclear program >> there's no way north korea will abandon these weapons. it's impossible. >> russia condemned the missile launch. president trump will meet for the first time first time face-to-face with russian president vladimir putin on friday. they expected to discuss north korea. david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news." we'll see what happens's thanks so much. infant size casket containing what police say are human organs showed up on the streets of north philadelphia. now, police are trying to figure out where it came from. how it got there. eyewitness spotted that casket overnight on the 3,000 block of clearfield street across the street from mt. vernon cemetery and police say the casket contained remains but no body. >> i was pretty shocked.

looked like something straight out of thriller. we ain't know something pop out going to eat us or not. didn't have a smell tore it but whatever was found in it was kind of crazy for them to caution tape i >> the medical examiner's office is evaluating the remains. investigators say a possible medical emergency may have caused a driver to lose control and crash into another driver on i95 in south philly. this happened this afternoon on the southbound side near front street, we know one of the drivers died at the scene. medics took a second driver to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. fierce flames destroy 100-year-old home in delaware county and investigators are trying to figure out what started that fire. it broke out overnight on bonsall avenue in alden, neighbors tell "eyewitness news" the home had been vacant for some time and work had recently stopped on the property. the intense fire and heavy smoke

. at 11:00, a beautiful site of the nation's capitol. thousands converged on the mall for fireworkses and 4th of july festivities. the fireworks capped a full day of events to celebrate america's birthday. >> three million were expected to gather for new york's annual 4th of july firework show, the

london. franklin lived there 16 years before returning to america in 1975. the next year he signed the declaration of independence. from that home, he lobbied the british government to give more rights to americans who were paying taxes. >> this is the eve of the american revolution, where he's fighting for the taxation with representation, politically important years. >> officials say it took decades of painstaking work to restore franklin's home. it's now open year round for tours and today's were sold out the sound of freedom rings out in cyst church in philadelphia's old city neighborhood.

liberty bell. ♪ . ♪ . the bell rang out in the tower of independence hall and our jim donovan was the master of ceremonies at the let freedom ring ceremony this afternoon at independence square. the sons of the revolution organized the event every year, and it's actually required by federal law that the bell ring on independence day exactly at 2:00 p.m. lauren? of course, we're just closing out our 4th of july weekend. a short work week and another weekend upcoming, and it could be one of summer's best high pressure building in. looks at this point like sunny skies for saturday sent sunday and humidity will be dropping off throughout the day sunday feeling nice and comfortable especially by sunday, and high temperatures running a bit
