headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with the latest on possible collusion between the trump campaign and russia. donald trump jr. said he met. the meeting between the president's eldest son took place in june at the trump tower shortly after his father won the gop nomination. he reports he agreed to the meeting. his brother-in-law jared kush mer and then campaign manager paul manafort also attended. in a statement trump jr. said during the meeting the lawyer had information that individuals in marco rubio were funding the national democratic committee and supporting hillary clinton but he said no details were offered and it turned into a

plan allowing u.s. citizens to adopt russian children. meanwhile the president backtracked on cooperating with russia on cyber security. brook silva-braga is here in new york. brook, good morning. >> good morning. many in congress, both democrat and republican expressed concern after the president announced he had discussed partnering with russia to combat election hacking. by last night that had changed. president trump has backed off a plan to create a cyber security team with russia. mr. trump started sunday morning with this tweet about his sunday morning meeting with president putin. putin and i discussed things so that hacking and other things will be guarded. >> if that's our best election defense, we might as well mail

our ballot boxes to moscow. by sunday night he was writing a different tune. it doesn't mean i think it can happen. it can. it came after day of criticism not just from democrats but republicans as well. >> to forgive and to forget is to empower putin, and that's exactly what he did. >> marco rubio said partnering with russia on a cyber unit is the same as partnering with assad on a chemical weapons unit. >> i'm sure he would be of assistance since he's doing the hacking. he also said russia got away with disrupting while pay nothing penalty. ahead on "cbs this morning," the former acting director of the cia michael morell on the possible investigation into the

collusion between the trump campaign and russia. congress returns from the july 4th recess but efforts to repeal and replace the affordable care act look to be dead in the water. at least ten gop senators say they oppose the bill drafted by mitch mcconnell and the others. mccain says it ee dead and it's time o come up with a new proposal with the democrats. >> introduce a bill. say to the democrats, here's a bill. it doesn't mean they control it. it means they can have amendments considered. then when they lose, they're part of the process. that's what democracy is supposed to be automobile. >> the clock is tucking. lawmakers have three weeks of work before an august recess. some republicans want to shorten the break, which would go against capitol hill direction. turning to the western states, this morning dozens of wildfires are burning from

california to oregon. there are red flag warnings indicating critical fire postings in six states. three fires in california have sent people running for their lives. >> reporter: like when fast moving flames jumped the highway, they had little time to react when the santa barbara fire quickly grew to thousands of acres. strong winds forced the whittier fire forced people to evacuate including 90 children at a summer camp. everyone got out safely but at least 20 structures got destroyed. a much larger fire is burning to the north. fire captain dave zaniboni.

angeles. this morning a cease-fire by russia and jordan appears to be holding. no cease-fire has lasted long in the six-year syrian war. u.s.-backed rebels are backing government forces supported by russia j and the prime minister of iraq congratulated iraqi troops for driving isis militants out of the city of mosul. isis took over iraq's second largest city in 2014. the battle to free the city began nine months ago. the militants still hold onto a larger part of the city. at least eight people have been arrested with an american killed outside a bar in greece. 22-year-old bakari henderson was on the island with his friends when he was beaten friday

morning at a market that is popular with tourists. the fire erupted yesterday at the camden market. back home a bear attacked a sleeping kampfer and a deadly party. t"the cincinnati enquirer" reports two men are sought for killing a woman and wounding eight others at a party for an expeck tanlt mother. three children and a pregnant mother are wounded. the woman reported she lost her unborn child. police say there was no sign of unforced entry by the gunmen. the sydney roman herald reports that a roman catholic cardinal accused of abuse has returned to the vatican today. george pell is expected to face charges later this month.

the lansing state journal reports the former gymnastics coach will face prison. nearly 150 women and girls say nassar had assaulted him. a bear bit a teenager's head while he was sleeping outside yesterday at a ranch in north central colorado. >> i just started hitting the bear as hard as i could and i found its eye and i started poking its fingers as hard as i could and it drug me for ten minutes before i was able to get away. >> officials are trying to trap the bear and say if it is caught, it will be euthanized. and people talked with an author who plans to run with the pamplona bulls again today despite being gored twice before.

torrential rain is to blame for the collapse of a five-story building in westernty bet. residents evacuated before the building fell saturday and no one was hurt. rain has pummeled the dirt washing away a road and two bridges. jason lockhart was released yesterday from an atlanta hospital after undergoing senn surgeries the last three weeks. the 15-year-old was hit in the face during a tournament last month. he's the son of former braves infielder keith lockhart. many people who survive severe illness or injury are unable to exercise, but now new specialized gyms are helping
