good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning a deadly earthquake has hit the gnc. the 6.7 magnitude quake was centered seven miles north of the coast where at least two people, both tourists, were killed. kose is a popular tourist destination and appears to have been the hardest hit. some 120 were injured, some caught beneath collapsed buildings. >> within seconds of it, it felt like you were almost at park with one of those illusions

where you felt like you were upside down. >> tourists ran into the streets. more than 20 aftershocks have been reported. in this country, an aggressive wildfire has now destroyed 99 buildings including 50 homes in central california. the so-called detwiler fire has burned. it's just 10% contained. some 5,000 people have been forced to evacuate. the fire remains over 30 miles from yosemite, but smoke and ash darken the sky. >> it was all of a sudden out of nowhere just plumes of smoke on the side of the mountain. blanket of orange, the sun was blocked, kind of apocalyptic. it was raining ash. it took us by surprise. the car was a blanket of white ash. >> there are 17 major wildfires

burning in california alone. governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency. now to the russian investigation into the election and what appears to be a showdown between the president and special prosecutor robert mueller. good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. he's drawn the line saying his finances are off to investigators but it seems those investigators looking into russian meddling in the 2016 election has already cross thad line. robert mueller is looking into businesses and prosecutors at the attorney's office in manhattan who have initiated the probe have turned out what they found. >> speaking for myself, i have nothing in russia. >> they're also looking into whether there are any financial

investigation. anne-marie? >> mola lenghi in washington. thank you, mola. the white house says the president has confidence in attorney general jeff sessions. that follows mr. trump telling the "new york times" he never would have hired sessions if he had known he was going to recuse himself from the russian investigation. sessions said yesterday he is staying on the job. >> we love this job. we love this department, and i plan to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate. >> sessions said it is an honor to serve as attorney general. a push by the president senate republican leaders plan a vote this tuesday as they try to breathe life back into the health care bill, but it's not clear the republicans have the vote to clear the debate. if two republicans vote against it, the bill will fail. a nevada parole board

justine damond should not have happened. when she approached the police officer, officer mohamed noor shot her through the driver's side window. his partner said they were startled by a loud sound. she said the actions did not have to happen. >> it goes against the department, how we train, and the expectations we have for our officers. these were the actions and judgment of one individual. >> he also said a review of noor's training found no problems. the national guard has been called in to help with recovery efforts in and around buffalo, new york, after two tornados touched down. the twisters hit yesterday. one was powerful enough to lift a car and a trailer off the ground. top winds exceeded 100 miles per hour. homes were damaged, trees uprooted, and 20e6r,000 people lost power but no serious injuries are reported.

our top stories this morning, early this morning a deadly earthquake caused extensive damage to a greek island off the turkish coast. at least two people, both tourists, were killed on the island of kos. panicked tourists rushed from hotels and spent the night outdoors. at least 120 others were injured. and the trump administration is looking at how to discredit the investigation led by special counsel robert mueller into russia's meddling with the u.s. election. that's according to the new york 250i78s. and according to the "washington post," mr. trump has been seeking the advice on the possibility of pardoning his aides, family, and even himself. car companies are rasing on to get self-driving cars on u.s. highways, but what are the new
