all-in-all, if you're trying to beat the heat, try to get out of the urban core, we take you out to different shot, not urban by any stretch. here in bern ville, few streaks every clouds, but i would say more importantly, the fact that it is still only 74 degrees, at this hour, and it is really warm, to start off. we could only heat up from here, obviously, in for another steamy july day, 80 is the actual temperature at philadelphia international airport. it feels a smidge hotter than already, too, but this is basically where we're bottoming out, and all we can do from here is heat up. of course. now that the sun's been up for about 15 minute. the dangerous heat is the story, right through 8:00 this evening, excessive heat warning will be in effect, don't have the heat advisory locally in the delaware valley today. but, it will do just keep in mind regardless still going to be hot everywhere. it will feel as hot as 102, though, in the midst of that excessive heat warning, so phillies certainly included as are the surrounding suburbs. now, as the day progresses, in addition, to the heat and humidity, also going to have

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live at temple university hospital where the care give is her being treated. good morning, jan. >> reporter: rahel, good morning. philadelphia police are calling this a home invasion homicide, whereas you mentioned, one man in a wheelchair is shot and killed, his caretaker, shot r, injured, brought here to temple university hospital for treatment. he's now this stable condition this morning. all the while, as this gunfire

errupted a family was upstairs in a bedroom, a woman with four children. take a look, at the video, see what police have been dealing with all night, all morning long. they are investigating very large scene there in tioga, one that stretches from that house down the block. this is the 3300 block of gratz street. police say it was just before midnight that they got the call about the shooting, when they arrived, they found 51 year old man on the spree, shot in the leg. that will was the kay taker, found 36 year old man lying next to his weep chair inside every his living room, shot in the head, medics pronounced him dead inside of his home there. here is how police say it unfolded. man in wheelchair, his care take her arrived home for the evening, in fact, the care take her just helped him up the steps, inside, when two armed men forced their way inside. the man in the wheelchair was actually struggling to keep the door closed when he was shot and killed. as the suspect start today run away, they saw the caretaker, chased him down the street, firing shots at him. hitting him once in the leg

and that's not allment take a listen. >> upstairs at the time were family members. there was 61 year old female, and there were four other juveniles, ages 15, two-seven jerold twins, and four year old. they were all upstairs at the time. they heard the commotion, they heard the shooting, how much, they were upstairs in the bedroom, and did not see anything. >> and fortunately they were not hurt. in the meantime there is morning, police are still looking for two gunmen, unfortunately, they don't have good description of the suspect, this he do hope surveillance individual know in the area can help out. live in philadelphia, jan carabeo. back to you. >> thank you, jan. >> a developing story naught out every greece this morning, people on the islands of kos with raking to up devestation after magnitude 6.5 earthquake. surveillance video shows people you see there dining out, the moment the earthquake struck. two people are confirmed dead with more than 100 injured. survivors are now sleeping

outdoors because buildings are considered no longer structurally sounds, and there have been some serious after shocks. >> back here at home today is the funeral for one of the victim of the recent bucks county killings. police say jimi patrick from newtown was murdered july 5th by cosmo dinardo after a drug transaction gone wrong. two memorial services were held for him earlier in the weekment patrick's family will receive condolence frost 10:00 e church of saint andrew in newtown followed by funeral mass in a private inter meant at 7:00 the tonight. friends, family, will hold candlelight vigil for all in doylestown township. >> two of the victims laid to rest yesterday. considered crime scene. investigators search for more evidence at the property in solebury township for the -- where the four victim bodies were found last week. chopper three over the scene. philadelphia police department k9 unit assisted in the churchment bucks county da's says it could release the farm back to dinardo's family. tragedy in south jersey two, brothers drown in a lake in vineland. saul, and his 30 year old brother, otto, swimming at crystal lake when they drowned. officials believe that one brother may have been trying to save the other. danny cabrera went to vineland high school and used to go fishing with the brothers. >> i would come out here mostly every day in the summer. and i would see them out here at least 30, 40 days of the sum ever, i never seen them swimming. >> safety officials remind everyone to stay out of open water with no swimming signs. they add swimming in car cysticly dangerous because you don't know how deep the water is and where it drops off.

out of this, moderate air quality issue, so, it is just stagnant enough it could start to bother you little bit. just keep that in mind. take it extra easy out there, water temperatures, trying to beat the worse of the heat, head out to the beaches. those are really starting to heat up nicely here, for you, in the mid 70s at this point. up and down much of the jersey shore, sea isle city still checks in at 68 degrees, but that's not too bad. up at 78 already at barnegat. so nice warmer water anyway to go along with very hot and steamy beach day here, the high will hit 93 on the shore this afternoon, in the sunshine, you're baking away, so have your beach umbrella ready to go, whatever you need, i'm sure we'll see the umbrellas lining the shore points anywhere from sandy hook down to cape may. now, looking forward, highs romain low mid 90s right through monday, so we peak really with the worse of the heat today. and from this point forward, i mean, i'm not saying it will be a relief, but it does get very gradually little bit

have this disable vehicle, heads up. do have people out on foot. just take it easy around the area. then, the talcony palmyra bridge for you, those every you take that bridge, here comes the buddy right there, talcony palmyra bridge scheduled to go up around 6:25, just heads up, beautiful shot hereby the way. accident in lansdowne, this one, has a fuel spill, so south lansdowne avenue bailey road heads up if that's in your neck of the woods, it is still out there, rahel, over to you. >> thank you, police chief in minneapolis speaking publicly for the first time since fatal shooting after bride to be. the woman had to call 911 about possible assault, now her family and the community demanding answers and say it is time for a change. correspondent john loyer ends reports. >> protesters took to the streets, angered by the fatal police shooting every justine in minneapolis. among those in the crowd, valerie castile, the mother of philando castile. she was fitly shot by a minneapolis cop last year.

castile note that she was kill on her son's birthday. >> like i said, after the verdicts, they were going to kill, and they have, and i think it is absolutely our obligation and the spirit of my son to speak to the family. >> the 40 year old was fatally shot by police officer saturday. she had called 911 to report possible sexual assault near her home. but she was shot when she approached the squad car. minneapolis police chief, jena, made her first public comment on the shooting thursday. she admits the situation was not handled appropriately. >> justine didn't have to die, on the squad car you will find the word to protect with courage and serve with compassion. this did not happen. >> people who called the police go to see what's happening with the police. you don't draw the gun and shoot them across your partner's body. >> a state investigation into the shooting is underway. officials say it could take months to complete.

john loyer ends, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> and firefighters continue to battle a large forest fire in south jersey, this is chopper three, over the wharton state for necessary washington township burlington county. the flames have consumed about a thousand acres, at last check the fires only 31% contained, but no homes for people have been threaten. the cause of the fire is unknown. >> well, time is running out for senior citizens to get a good deal on lifetime pass to the national parks, starting next month, the calls for lifetime senior pass will go from just $10 to $80, quite the difference there. congress passed legislation last year, raising the price after national park, since federal recreation pass, but seniors had already have the lifetime passes don't worry they still work. >> coming up a little later in the health watch, combination every foods that could decrease your metabolism. pat gallen going surfing, see if he can hang ten with the best of them. all part of our summer fest coverage in ocean city. when we come back.

causing some backups. now it has all been cleared. still looking great. beautiful shot. deaths able vehicle still out here 26 street northbound, at penn rose, pulled all the way off to the right earlier we had a dent there, that was causing some backups, as women, just take it easy, traveling on by, and the tac-pal bridge went up around 6:27 or so. it look like it is coming back down now. just heads up there. plus, we have an accident, lansdowne, still out there there is one is involving fuel spill. south lansdowne avenue bailey road. another accident in conshohocken. elm street at walnut st. heads up on these two. we've had kind after stirring of -- string every accident all morning long, the good news they're getting cleared out of the way fairly quickly, just a heads up. tomorrow morning emergency deck repairs, city avenue, city off to ridge avenue northbound is closing so tomorrow morning, 6:00 a.m., to 3:00 p.m. so just heads up. and the youth regatta as well tomorrow which will close kelly drive. kelly drive is closed 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

rahel, back over to you. >> all right, meisha, thank you. breaking news this morning, from philadelphia's tioga neighborhood. a man and a wheelchair is shot and killed, his caretaker injured, following a violent home invasion. this happened just before midnight on the 3300 block of north gratz street. police say the 36 year old victim and his 51 year old care take her just returned home, when two gunmen tried to force open the front door. >> the 36 year old wheelchair bound victim was actually struggling to try to keep the door closed. that's when one of the perpetrators fired at police, one shot, striking the wheelchair bound victim in the head. he fell off his wheelchair. and was subsequently pronounced dead. >> police say the caretaker was shot in the leg, as he ran from the scene. now in stable condition. so far no arrest haves been made. o.j. simpson will soon and freeman, nevada parole board voted unanimously he should be released after spending nearly nine years in jail for robbery. correspondent chris martinez was there and has a look now.

>> the four members of oj simpson's parole board said exactly what he wanted to hear. >> i do vote to grant parole. and that will conclude this hearing. >> thank you. >> the decision came after an hour long hearing, where the 70 year old former football star recounted his part in the armed robbery of two sport memorabilia dealers, in las vegas, in 2007. >> i'm sorry that things turned out the way they did. >> the parole board noted simpson has been a model prisoner, and he took it a step further. >> i'm not a guy who lives a criminal life. i'm a pretty straight shooter. >> those comments set off social media fire storm in light of simpson's arrest in 1994 for the brutal double murder every his ex-wife nicole and her friends ron goldman, he was late area quit dollars. >> i basically have led a conflict free life. >> one of those things you might say about o.j. simpson,

might even say well that acquittal was fair, but to say that he's led a conflict free life? i don't think so. >> simpson told the board he want to move back to florida after his release, to be near his family. board members also heard from one of simpson's victims who supported his reese least and his daughter arnel who said her father's incarceration have been difficult for his children. >> we just want him to come home. >> simpson could be released as early as october 1st. chris martinez, for cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> the family after former drexel student severely injured in a fight two years ago is now suing his old fraternity and friends. surveillance video shows ian being hemmed by his from a brother back to their frat house at 32nd and powelton. according to court document, he fell and hit hess head on cement, and suffered a brain injury. the failure for them to call 19 is one for nearly ten hours is what led to that injury. >> they would have n about able to relieve the swelling, give him medication, and

prevent his brain from swelling so much that they had to take the top of his skull off to relieve the pressure. >> it has been two of the worse years of my life, and i don't want any other family to have to go through what we've had to go through. >> now, drexel university is not named in the lawsuit, the university says in a statement the drexel police conduct add investigation, notify the offers of the district attorney, and it was determined that no charges would be filed. the search for interim district attorney in philadelphia is over. with the appointment of the city's first african-american female da. the board of judges selected kelly hodge, for more than dozen applicants yesterday. hodge takes over for former d.a. seth williams, who resigned last month, after pleading guilty to federal corruption charge. hodge will serve until either republican bet grossman or democrat larry krasner takes over in january. and the pennsylvania state house of representatives returns to harrisburg this weekend, to work on balancing the state's $32 billion

budget, governor tom wolf allowed the budget tote become law last week, despite $1.5 million shortfall. help in the legislature about $600 million, in aid to schools lining penn state, lincoln, and the university of pennsylvania. elan musk says he's received verbal approval to build high speed underground transportation system. in a twitter post, musk explained the hyper loop would shuttle commuters from the big apple to the nation's capitol in under 30 minutes. transportation system would whisk not just people but also cars, even bikes, through a system of underground tunnels at airliner speeds. musk adds the hyper loop would make stops in baltimore and in philadelphia on the way. >> we go back and forth between dc and new york all the time. and when we don't go it is because it takes so long. >> i've always been thinking if it was only faster it would be lot more people would travel. and if it really happens i would love it. >> meet too.

>> rahel, every course i it, of course i caught the wave. i'm so stoke to be here in ocean city, my friend, because the surf is beautiful. the sands and sun are fantastic. yes, i will ' stop talking like a surfer, that being said, seventh street surf shop here in ocean city new jersey is a staple of the board walk, i got an awesome chance to jump out on the water with seventh street, and about 20 different kids, and they taught me the basics of surf. let's see how i did. >> ocean city new jersey known for its fun family atmosphere, and surfing. this was a hot bed of surfing, south jersey, ocean city, new jersey in particular, actually known worlds wide as one of the hot spots on the east coast of the united states for surfing. >> layer the owner of seventh street surf shop, staple of the board walk bees since 1986. but the combination of surfing here go way back. >> seventh street erroded so badly that they couldn't use it for a swimming beach, but

these areas. so yes. absolutely not suffering a loan here. but we are already at 83 degrees, for feels like, so now factoring in the humidity, feels little hot nerve dover. little hot nerve atlantic city, and ever so slightly hot nerve places like wilmington, or trenton, but really going to have the core of the heat across the urban heat island really. so i95, immediate vicinity where the worse of the heat will be centralized for us here today. storm scan all clear at the moment. couple every clouds rolled on through, but we don't spec much of anything in the way of not just cloud cover but wet weather in that regard either. it is still steamy. our wind flow has bun to shift a little bit more northwesterly, so it is still hot. still very sticky out there. but it may not be as harsh for you, throughout the course of the day whether it comes it air quality. that's one minor benefit that comes with this. different shot of the shore for you. there is not one loan cell out here looks like at beach patrol headquarters in margate. early start to the day in peace and quiet out here. just outside of atlantic city.
