5:18 pm
doylestown and wilmington. so take it easy on this friday evening. as we head in the upcoming weekend, that sticky factor will unfortunately stay with us. we will see an enhanced storm chance particularly as we head into tomorrow afternoon and evening, then thunderstorms likely gannon sunday before we quiet things down heading in to monday with a chance of the isolated shower. we will see some period of sunshine particularly on saturday but keep an eye to the sky as we will have changing weather conditions, throughout the upcoming weekend with then hansed storm chance. this particular model giving us some cells as we look ahead toward saturday morning particularly south of philadelphia, and kind of moving out. we will see sunshine as we head into saturday early afternoon and then they are rear developing and become more widespread in nature as we head in the evening hours. as we head into tomorrow evening some of these storms could be on the strong potentially severe side as we head into saturday night. maybe a few showers lingering

5:30 pm
reported. a big shake up at the white house sean spicer resigns as press secretary as president trump overhauls his communications team. good evening, everyone i'm jessica dean. ukee will join us from ocean city shortly. today sean spicer resigned after a stormy six months on the job, and his tenure was marked by combative exchanges with reporters. press secretary team has also struggled to keep up with development in the russia investigation. spicer quit after president trump decided to appoint businessman anthony scaramucci as the new communications director. >> i love the president. i'm very loyal to the president. the president has really good karma, okay. the world turns back to him. he is genuinely a wonderful human being. i think if members of the congress get to know him better and get comfortable with him, they will let him lead them to the right things for the american people. >> white house also announced sarah huckabee sanders will
5:31 pm
replace sean spicer as new white house press secretary. president trump wished spicer well. all of this is happening as the president is testing the limits of his presidential powers. the new york times reports that the president's legal team is looking to push back against special counsel robert muhler's investigators and washington post reports that team is looking to see if president trump could use pardoning powers with the investigation, even, if he could pardon himself. the president's lawyer calls the paredon story nonsense. joining us is hoe of the face the nation john dickerson and thanks for being with us on this friday. >> thanks, for having me. >> lets start with the first shake up in the communications team were you surprised to see sean spicer resign. >> well, yes and no. yes, in that we didn't, we thought, you know, usually he is such a part of the administration from the early period and there are always anxious to say that everything
5:32 pm
is the white house is going perfectly and this is not necessarily a sign of. that on the other hanted is a familiar story when somebody is paper over by a new hire they don't want to stick around when their job has been diminished. so in a sense in terms of the human behavior it was not surprising. also, in presidency we see often desire to change communication strategy as a way to try on get on the right path. >> and all of this of course happening we were just talking about this russia investigation it continues to evolve really by the hour. you will have senator susan collins who sits on the intelligence committee and adam shift of the house intelligence committee with you on sunday, what are you hoping to glean from them. >> we will susan collins at center of two important stories, she's right in the middle of the health care story that is a big deal here in washington and she's against the senate plans as they are going forward at the moment. we will talk to her about that n terms of the investigation
5:33 pm
this new strategy by white house to really question the motives of special counsel muhler and those on his team, questions donations they have made, in their lives, and basically try to under mine them either before they do their work or as a way to try to prepare the way to get rid of muhler, that new strategy which we are hearing from the president in his interview with the new york times and administration officials have been saying on tv, it is a real change in the story line and we will want to talk to congressman shift, and senator collins about that. >> major stories, all over the place, john, we will be watching on sunday. thanks very much. don't forget you can watch face the nation with john dickerson sunday morning at 10:30 right here on cbs-3. attorney general jeff sessions was in philadelphia today, as our david spunt tells us, he talked about the cities crime and once again took aim at sanctuary cities.

5:35 pm
what somewhat baffling to us is our shooting has not listen over last year but our homicides are up. >> reporter: about 30 protesters gathered outside, calling for session toss resign. >> it is time to go because he has been doggies ripping apart families. >> reporter: commissioner ross says he does not gree with sessions sanctuary city policy and local law enforcement should not be in the immigration business. >> we have a tough enough time establishing relationships with our residents that we have, we don't want people to feel uncomfortable or weary, about reporting crime. >> reporter: today's speech came day after president trump criticized attorney general jeff sessions, session did his not take questions, he quickly left room after his speech, but noteably absent mayor jim kenney who disagrees with the trump administration on sanctuary cities. i reached out to his office to find out why he was not there. i'm told he was not invited.
5:36 pm

heat. take a look at these numbers. ninety in allentown. ninety-three in philadelphia we're in the 90's across the delaware valley but we have 80 's down the shore making it feel more comfortable. it feels warmer when you factor in the combination of both heat and humidity. we are feeling in the upper 90 's in many locations and down in dover feeling closer to the triple digits. a very warm afternoon on tap, and we have dangerous heat, that we're dealing with across the region from fail and surrounding counties and northern delaware, excessive heat warning that remains in place through 8:00 p.m. this evening. the shore will be the place to cool down even as we head in the weekend because temperatures will be in the 80 's, saturday, sunday, and monday, but there is one catch and one caveat you will to have watch for chance for some strong to potentially even severe thunderstorms, on saturday scattered thunderstorms high of 89. eighty-six on sunday with thunderstorms likely. it does look like we will get improving weather as we head in the monday with high of 89
5:50 pm
degrees. lets take a look at future weather moving into tomorrow morning we will watch for potential for stronger storms, and south and east of philadelphia down near points like wildwood and atlantic city and then as we head in the afternoon and evening, that is where we will really have to watch for potential for strong to severe thunderstorms bubbling upright around center city and even is to points northward. these storms could pack a punch and then as we head into your sunday basically doing same thing all over again sunday afternoon. storm prediction center does have for slight weather as we head into your saturday. main threats heavy downpours. we have moderate risk for strong to damaging wind, high risk of lightening, hail and isolated tornado spin up cannot be ruled out. very warm night in store, as a storm to the south early with overnight low of 77 degrees. ninety-three on saturday with some sunshine and then watch for those strong thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. you're witness weather seven day forecast looks like this.
