wharton state forest, satellite imagery shows smoke pattern over new jersey, from chopper three we can see how east wind, high humidity caused smoke to travel toward the shore and settle down to the ground. >> we did smell smoke this morning but didn't know what it was from. >> the smell was very, very bad. it smelled like the fire or smoke was rate here in the neighborhood. >> reporter: brigantine councilman michael reardon said strong smell led people to call 911. police had to tell people to stop calling. >> the chief put out a tweet, letting people know don't call 911, that it is the fire causing the smell and that everything will be okay. >> reporter: about 10 miles inland smoke filled the air around hamilton mall, and some cars had a thin layer of ashes little further north in atlantic county we saw smoke across white horse pike in egg harbor city. >> this morning it was almost like driving in and leading up to fog, that is how thick it was. >> reporter: while new jersey

fire service reports no damage to homes they expect the fire to grow before it is completely contained, the fact that smoke could last several days has some people concerned >> with the heat and weather being dry it is worry some. >> as a general safety issue in the pennsylvania when we had forest fires if the smoke does, continue to be strongest specially in the morning they warned people with asthma and other breathing difficulties to stay inside. live from brigantine, cleve bryan for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". cleve, thank you this hot weather is not helping as crew s work to contained the fire. our stretch of sweltering heat continues and excessive heat warning remains in effect tonight. meteorologist chelsea ingram, tracking it all from ocean city, chelsea. >> reporter: hi there, guess contact one thing to tell you place to get relief from the heat is right here in ocean city, new jersey. beautiful evening. it is hot across the delaware valley. we will look at the numbers across the region. temperatures in the 90's, once again even at this hour.

right around 92 degrees in philadelphia little cooler down the shore in atlantic city in the upper 80's. mid 80's for wildwood. we're in the 90's into northern delaware. ninety-one lancaster. ninety in reading. it feels warmer when we factor in both the heat and humidity, combination. feels in the mid 90's in philadelphia, upper 90's in some locationness to delaware and even feels like mid to upper 90's for places down the shore with the combination of heat and humidity. we have an excessive heat warning remains in effect through 8:00 p.m. for philadelphia and surrounding counties in to northern delaware. the wind are coming from the west. here's the issue that forest fire you heard cleve talk about that is blowing some of the smoke toward shore points so that is something we are keeping a close eye on. otherwise we have a slice risk as we head into your saturday, tracking potential for strong to severe thunderstorms. we will have details in your full forecast momentarily. for now back to you.

>> something we will check with new a bit. a person of interest is in custody tonight after a woman was found dead from an apparent stab nothing her perkiomen township home. fifty-four year-old annette house lived with her daughter on abby lane. her daughter's lanea house was the one who called police earlier this morning. neighbors tell "eyewitness news" they were shocked by this crime. police are saying in one in the community has any reason to fear, right now the death is considered suspicious, pending the coroner's report. attorney general jeff sessions came to philadelphia encouraging local law enforcement to help put an toned sanctuary cities. >> they are providing sanctuary toss criminals. sad for me to say that within of those jurisdictions is philadelphia, and this is especially sad for residents of philadelphia hoff been victimized as a result of these policies. >> sessions said violent crime continues to plaque the city, police commissioner ross met with sessions following his speech, mayor kenney is a

supporter of the sanctuary city policies was not invited to today's event. heat isn't keeping us from celebrating summer if he this week we are back down the shore. ukee washington is live on the boardwalk in ocean city, ukee, plenty of people packing beach and board a great day to be down the shore. >> reporter: jessica, that is an excellent point because i'm looking at the board right now there are more people on the board at this point in the day then there are on the beach. when we first got here around noon time or so beach was pack , umbrellas every where but now that the day is starting to wind down, sun going down, more people on the boards getting held i for dish and doing other things socially with their friends and family but with the since the late 1800's way back in the day ocean city new jersey has been a getaway for so many ocean seekers. the town has even had a brush with royalty. princess grace of monaco also known as grace kelly, spent summer in the oaks city beaches in the 1930's she

continued to come back year after year with her own children, to attend family reunions. iconic kelly family traveled from philadelphia becoming extremely influential in their chosen shore town. jack his adopted summer home, stayed opened for visitors enduring the hardest time. one of the stories we have been told is that when the depression hit and the city who funding for all of the amenities that had developed, jack personally funded the beach patrol so that the beaches could remain guarded. >> reporter: did you know this , as a teen grace kelly had a summer job as a waitress in the chatter box restaurant. summer home kelly family built in 1924 still stand here today and find it on the northwest corner of 26th and wesley avenue. it greeted me as i came across the bridge and greets everyone else when they dot same thing coming across see chatter box right there on your right.

to dayton is what happening over there with our thurston howell the third and lovey. >> i want to be a kid again so bad and bee friend everybody who lives here in this lagoon. >> we will throw you in. >> you remember brown, brown, i want to be one of these kid. i'm glad i made friends with you at ocean city yacht club because if we can look out there, these kid are making memories that they will remember for the rest of their lives and so thinks community. look at all of the people that come out and thinks every year >> this is junior night in venice, arguablably better than night in venice because of the family participation. if you watch closely every boat, every house that they pass has people at end of the dock saying hi. >> amazing which is fun. >> they have fishing nets. one of the traditions here is folks on the dock throw candy out and the kid try to catch them with the fishing net. they are holding up lolly-pops and tons of candy and having

to dip my toes in the sand and i'm really glad i got a pedicure because i are about to see my feet here. things are gorgeous this evening, feeling great, it is warm but extremely hot across the delaware valley where we have temperatures well in the 90's at this hour. take a look at the numbers across the region. temperatures are in the lower 90's in philadelphia, and it is 90 degrees in will inning ton. upper 80's down the shore and 89 degrees in dover. but it feels even warmer, and not when we factor in that combination of the both heat and humidity. it feels more like mid 90's in philadelphia and down into delaware it feels more in the upper 90's and triple digits in some areas in southern new jersey, that is why they have an excessive heat warning that has been issued and now just under two more hours, from philadelphia, and all of the surrounding counties, all the way down into northern delaware for these dangerously

warmed heat index values. place for relief is down the shore and that is going to be the case as we head into your saturday, however you will to have watch the risk for shower or thunderstorm. we will see wind at five to 10 knots great news down the shore rip current risk is low. as we head in the overnight hours tonight and tomorrow things will start to turn a bit. we will deal with unsettled weather as we head into your weekend. areas south of philadelphia, strong thunderstorms to start off your saturday and then as we head in the afternoon and evening we will watch for strong to severe thunderstorms developing in center city and points north, and then we will do it all once again, as we head into your sunday afternoon. storm prediction center has us under a slight risk for severe weather heading in to your saturday. main risk, or main threats heavy downpours because we have strong to damaging win, lightening, maryland rate risk of hail and see isolated

tornado so that is something we will have to play a keep a close eye on. very warm tonight, storm south , overnight low of 77 degrees. but yes we will to have crank up ac as we head in the overnight hours tonight. some sunshine into your saturday and watch for strong storms, maybe severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. high temperature of 93 degrees we have relief in the seven day forecast. as we head into next week on monday high temperature right around 92 degrees. eighty-five on tuesday that is where real relief will kick in eighty-four on wednesday. rest of next week is looking fantastic with temperatures more seasonal as we head into your thursday and friday. so i'm enjoying myself down here on the beach in ocean city, but is there still plenty of people enjoying weather as well, i think i'll dip my toes in the water. i'll send it back to you in the studio. >> yes, that close, go all the way. >> might as well.
