unfortunately, no relief in site this weekend. >> the nine's will be back today. now, we could get saved from seven straight days of 90s with maybe a day of 80s tomorrow. >> i'll take it. >> but it will still be 89. so we will be just outside that far 90 range, maybe again tomorrow. but today will be hot, it will be back on the humid side of things. we're also going to be tracking some shower and thunderstorm activity little later on toward the evening hours. so a bit of everything for us on this saturday, storm scan3 across the majority of the area here this morning, but we do see shower and thunderstorm activity across southern part of new jersey, see thunderstorm northern cape may county back up toward atlantic city, as well. this is our first rounds of what is going to be maybe a mix of some cloud cover, sunshine in the morning, but then again also multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. this is the first one, then we look for the 21st to kind of start to develop as gee into the later afternoon then toward the evening. temperatures right now, we still sit at 81 degrees, here

in philly. it is still a very warm start to the day in the city. even in the surrounding areas, you can still see plenty of mid to high 70s out there, so again, very warm morning for us, and dew points are not giving us any relief. we're sitting in the 70s into the oppressive range of humidity, and that's going to be the case throughout the day today. temperatures right around 9:00 m the 81 right now, to about 84 degrees by 9:00 a.m. back to the 90s by lunchtime. no relief from the heat today. 93 degrees for the high temperature, we go with the dew points that continue to sit in the 70s, jan, but as i said, shower and up this zero thunderstorm activity, quick break from the heat tomorrow. tell but it in just a bit. >> new this morning, man in critical condition after a shooting in philadelphia's feltonville section, police say the shooting happened just after 3:00 this morning, near rock lands street and rising sun avenue. officers found a man in front of the feltonville, shot in

the arm and stomach. so far no arrests have been made. >> also overnight, damage to the front after home in philadelphia's juniata park section. police say a fire broke out here, on the 4100 block of j street, before 1:30, one woman went to the hospital for smoke inhalation, unclear what condition she is in at the moment. no word on what caused that blaze. the hot weather we've been having has led to dangerous situation in delaware county. police arrest add woman accused of leaving her young child alone in a car there, chopper three, over parking lot, on conchester highway in boothwyne. police say the toddler was not in the car long enough to suffer any serious injuries but it is another reminder of summer heat dangers. natasha brown with more on the challenges every staying cool for the next few days. >> folks around the city are trying to find any relief from the oppressive heat that griped the region in the last couple of days, taking dip in a fountain along the parkway, seemed to do the trick for these guys, but not everyone

is as mobile, or can finds an escape. the elderly are more susceptible during heat wives like this. >> very dangerous for seniors with heat like this, their bodies may not be telling them they're not doing good with the heat, may have certain ailments that don't do well with the heat or medications. >> raises awareness for heat stress. >> the philadelphia corp. railings for aging has set up a heat line for seniors who may need assistance. >> yesterday we got some phonecalls, we helped some people yesterday. now, it is increasing. and the second day of heat like this really generates more activity, and more problems for people. >> it is not just the elderly that need extra care during extended heatwave. our four legged friends are also just nerve recall, especially dogs like joda left at a long driveway at the end after long driveway. employee noticed the dog in the crate. they believe he had been there for more than an hour likely dumped by his owner, at a time when the heat index had

brigantine were smelling that smoke from the forest fire instead of the salty sea air. council ill man said the smokey smell led enough people to call 191. today is the funeral for one of the victims of the recent bucks county killing. friends and family will pay their final respects to dean finocchiaro at the garrity funeral home in levittown. body of the 19 year old from middletown township was found shot and burried along with three other young men last week on farm in solebury township. >> the funeral for 19 year old jimmy patrick was held yesterday. hundreds gathered in newtown to say a final farewell to him the 19 year old at saint andrew catholic church, a 2016 grad of holy ghost prep school in bensalem getting set to begin his sophomore year at loyola university in maryland. >> in other news this morning, police file murder charges against a 21 year old in a stabbing death of her mother in montgomery county. authority say elena house hey on the left there stabbed her

, "eyewitness news". >> switching gears now, california dog is pulled from a burning house and revived by firefighters. jack was unresponsive after firefighters pulled him out of the bakersfield home. they used a special animal mask to deliver oxygen to him, after a few harrowing moment, jack was awake and responsive there. officers say the dog did suffer respiratory injuries, but received additional oxygen therapy, and is now doing well jack also received a special visitor there, the firefighter who saved him. >> one puppy might have you doing a double take now, because the goal end retriever puppy isn't golden at all. the little green fellow was part of a litter of puppies born in scotland. the rare phenomenon is thought to have when puppies in the womb come in contact with a green pigment found in bile. but the color usually fades over time, which is already happening to this little guy named forest. you don't see that very often at all. >> no, definitely not. >> and i wish we weren't seeing these oppressive

temperatures often. at least day after day. what are we, on the fifth day now of oppressive ♪ >> if we hit 90 today, that would be five days in a row. we were originally even yesterday looking at maybe up to seven days in a row, 90's. now, we could potentially get a little break tomorrow, down to the high -- 80s, but either way it will be hot, it will be humid throughout the weekend. we do need to be prepared. any kind of activity that you're doing outside of course always stay hydrated always just take into account just how hot and humid it is. and yesterday, we got to 93 degrees. so, again, yesterday was the fourth day in a roy that we hit 90's so we're definitely into that criteria for a heatwave. and today, not going to be any different. you see, we're well above the average of 87. that's our normal high temperature for this time of year. getting a look at what we can expected to as we keep talking about, it stays hot it, stays humid with the 90's out there. then watch for increasing cloud cover. so this morning see some sunshine, always nice. but it will get a little bit on the cloudy side, as we head

later on toward the end of the afternoon, evening, then we have chance for some showers, thunderstorm activity to develop, some of the showers and storms could be on the strong to even possibly severe side. we will breakdown those chances here in just a second. outside on the neighborhood network, rehoboth beach. quiet of course right now. it was packed yesterday. even this afternoon i should say it is still probably going to be a little bit on the crowded side because it will be hot. we go with "shorecast" temperature 90 degrees, temperature of 74 will make it feel nice if you are in the ocean later this afternoon, but of course late day showers , thunderstorms, something that we will keep an eye on. temperatures for us out there right now, sitting in the 70s, especially off to the north, lancaster, reading, allentown, on the low to mid zero seven range. couple of 80s, wilmington at 80, philadelphia airport, 81, down near the shore, 79 atlantic city, 76. right now in wildwood, so waking up to temperatures well above normal for this time of year. and the biggest thing, it is

still muggy outside, dew point are into the 70s, few spots, up into the north, head toward the poconos, in the 60s. but his is what we will be expecting, our temperatures even again today, maybe not quite as hot as they have been but with our dew point, that will remain in the 70 range, that humidity is not going anywhere still very, very muggy for us on this saturday. storm scan3, shows just some shower, thunderstorm activity, down near the coastline. see atlantic city back down toward ocean city just north of sea isle, around somers point getting little built of shower, thunder storm activity , then up even little bit just east thereof beach haven, little bit east of, excuse me, west, i should say, of long beach island, little bit on the rainy side here this morning. there is a big system that's off to our west. this large area of precipitation, that's what's eventually going to track eastward and give us the chance for shower and thunderstorm activity later in the day. by 5:00 on future weather, shower, thunderstorms moving into the fracture western suburbs, as we get to around

6:00, closer and closer to philly pushing through the center city area around 6:00, 7:00. heavy precipitation down to the south, by 11:00, millville , dover, getting in on heavy rain. pushes off the coastline, go through the overnight hours, but couple of spotty shower, thunderstorms, not completely ruled out through the nighttime tonight and even throughout our sunday as well. see by 5:00 another round every shower and thunderstorm activity developing, and then that will continue into monday morning, it looks like, at this point. severe threat for today, slight risk, in the second tear of marginal then slight risk for today, our biggest threats are going to be some heavier rain and some lightning, everything else in the moderate to low range at this point, including strong winds and hail. 93 degrees for the high temperature today, getting a look at the seven day forecast , 89 tomorrow. so our quick break from the 90s, and then we get some much comfortable, much more comfortable conditions, jan, later in the week, tuesday, wednesday, low to mid 80s.

>> good morning, i'm jan carabeo, good day to head down the shore for bit of relief from the summer heat. meteorologist, matt peterson out there on the cbs-3 skydeck with eyewitness weather, morning, matt. >> good morning, jan january, not a bad day to get down the beach maybe later this afternoon, maybe already down there and getting up and want to see the sunrise over the ocean, great morning for that, maybe even warm out, there but still going to be pretty good day for it nonetheless. storm scan3 shows couple of showers are still lingering across the coastline for the most part they're up near atlantic city at this point and moving off shore. so that's some good news for us, now, this is our first rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity. really going to be the only one we see here this morning, but we will watch for another round of showers and thunderstorms later on toward the ends of the afternoon, and into the evening hours, here, in philly, and also back down toward the shore. so again, if you are waking up this morning, you look outside , you think man little bit on the wet side. don't be alarmed, it will be a little drier going through the afternoon. temperatures for us right now,

in friday that caught their attention in brigantine. >> ly got up this morning, went out on the deck, i smelled something it, smelled like rubber burning. and i was curious what it was. >> the smokey smell from a wild fire burning about 3,000 acres of the wharton state forest. satellite imagery shows the smoke pattern over new jersey. from chopper three, we could see how the eastward winds and high humidity caused smoke to travel toward the shore, and settle low to the grounds. >> we did smell smoke whether we got up this morning, but didn't know what it was from. >> the smell was very, very bad. it smelled like the fire or the smoke was right here in the neighborhood. >> brigantine councilman michael rear done says the strong smell led enough people to call 911 in town. the police had to put out a notice to tell people to stop calling. >> the chief put out a tweet let people know don't call 911 , that it is the fire causing the smoke, and everything will be okay. >> about 10 miles inland, smoke filled the air around the hamilton mall and some

maybe getting little rain activity down toward atlantic city. but this system out towards the great lakes, this is going to be tracking eastward, and as it does, it is going to bring with it that chance for showers and thunderstorms, not too much on the future weather until we get to about 5:00. then there is the line of thunderstorm activity in the western suburbs by about 5:00. to the 67:00 time frame now moving into center city. much of the delaware valley getting in on showers and thunderstorm, again, by the time we get to about 6:00 it will be getting down into south jersey, our second rounds of thunderstorm activity as we go through the nighttime hours. so between 10:00 and midnight tonight we are going to see the heaviest rain come down into south jersey, also, back down toward the delaware shore points, that's where we will see the heaviest rainfall, and then once we get into tomorrow morning, we could still see maybe few spotty showers, at times, on sunday morning, looks like it should be relatively quiet to start out sunday, just cloudy, but then pop up shower, thunderstorm activity is once again in the

forecast, throughout sunday afternoon, and then sunday night into monday, here comes another rounds of possible thunderstorm activity. so again, we going to be dealing with rounds of this throughout the next couple of days. ourself ear threat for today, it is a slight risk that's our second in line here. you see all of the yellow, pretty much all of the delaware vale, south jersey, lehigh valley, too, and the biggest threat today probably some lightning, maybe gusty wind, and also some heavy rainfall, you can't rule out the chance for some marginal hail, too. 93 degrees, the high temperature today, but going to be feeling a little bit higher than that, probably be feeling like the high 90s to maybe near the triple digits. we get break in the 90s sunday , high of 89. ninety-two on monday. then much more comfortable conditions on tuesday, wednesday, seeing some 80s there. no precipitation, jan, tuesday , wednesday, and the humidity will be lower, too, so good news, the light there at the end of the tub. >> i just got it wait couple of more days, thank you, matt. solar panels are providing

power from an unlikely source in camden county, and the project only getting bigger. justin udo from sister station "kyw news radio" has more, in our einstein healthcare science center report. >> chances are when someone says landfill, renewable energy is not the first thing you think of b for more than a decade the pennsauken landfill has been home for more than 11,000 solar pan. >> we feel very strongly about trying to create renewable energy where ever we can. >> now, officials are adding even more solar panels to the landfill. >> we're going to bounce double or existing solar capacity, and it is a terrific project using this closed portion of the landfill for a beneficial reuse. >> the environmental protection agency says the energy produced by the new panels will reduce greenhouse gases by nearly two and a half tons, not burning nearly 3 million pounds every coal or preserving nearly 2,000 acres of the us forest.
