welcome back to the cbs-3 pet project with carroll erickson and spca and true truth i this morning, angus. >> he is darling. he is just a great 11 week old kitten just a typical kitten loves to jump, climb and use litter box and just one other thing about angus, he is blind >> would you never know. >> you would never know it he is in foster care with the wonderful woman with the pennsylvania spca and angus will be available from the pennsylvania spca and today we want to talk about animals like angus. this 11 week old kitten who seized by humane law enforcement through our cruelty cases, and because of a infection, he and several other kittens in this litter

were blind. >> that is you why need to make sure that your animals get vet care because otherwise , angus would be a sighted cat, but that said, angus who cannot see anything, also, can jump and amazing accuracy find a litter box, is extremely playful has no idea that he cannot see, anything. >> he is really amazing. his adoptive mom, or at lee his foster mom calls him angus the great because i is a great cat. some of the things i want to talk about people would like to adopt, pets, special need pets, and that is great, because one of the surveys, it is like third least likely to be adopted in the shelter. first older pets and pit bull type, dogs, and then dogs and cats with special need. >> right. >> something to think b not everybody is equipped to do that. you need to be honest, if you cannot do a special need pet
7:54 am
that is totally fine. there are so many other deserving animals in there in all these shelters thaw need to make room for but some of the things that if you do think hey, you know what i kind of like to get a dog or cat with some kind of vision problem well, all you have to do is make sure when you set your house up with their food bowls and that thing keep it set up that way. >> consistency. >> they necessity where it is and they keep, they keep, they have other sense that is they use, unbelievably, not at least of which is their cute ness. >> how is this one doing the right thing by them. and also, they are devon malls but so many people are using sign language. dogs may not be able to hear but dogs are very attentive to humans and they want to learn and people will couple just a sit command with a emotion or something. so you can certainly train an animal with a hearing problem. you know what maybe you don't want a dog that every time dog
7:55 am
bell ring are wings start barking. >> yes. >> absolutely. >> and then, of course, other that you see this three legged pet who for some reason has lost a limb, it is more difficult for a pet to lose a front leg because their weight is carried on the front. it is like a horse. their weight is carries in the front but they too can adapt but you may want to put ramps up or use a special sling, watch out for the obesity that can happen with sometimes with a three legged pet. these are some of the things you consider when adopting an animal. one of the other things i found very interesting that is a lot of people want the animal celebrities, ie, the animal that may have the most atrocious live story and they get to the shelter and 15 people show up for that animal and they walk by many other deserving animals. you cannot fall into that trap as great as it is to adopt these special need pets if there isn't one there, there will be but don't walk past
7:56 am
animal that may need you as well. one of the other issues with special need it is not just some of the physical things, angus, you are an angel, it is not just, this cat is blind, you would have never known it, and, it is a lot of animals have basically ptsd, they have had previous traumatic experiences, so somebody who re s them let anxious and working with them and just work with whatever the difficulty is just like would you with a person. look at thesewo jan, are they darling, we have ragty and annie, they are also for adoption at pennsvath are a bon. they must go together. they are sweet and darling. i love their names. and this is she's a little dog, very friendly, she is like to meet people of all kind. she has a little kiss and she walks well on a leash, she loves to stretch her legs in the yard and she can be in a home with just about any other
