brief disappearance of brittany law as an abduction, a kidnapping and a robbery. they say the 31-year-old havertown woman was last seen at a sunoco on west chester pike in upper darby township around 4:0. they say she left in a car to be -- believed driven by lyft driver the store goes brittany was out late celebrating her sift's 21st birthday. they say both had been drinking heavily. they say that that it this all started in 1200 block of saint james street in center city. they say that they hailed a lyft driver through fusing an app on their phone. that service then took them to west philadelphia where the driver apparently said he wanted to stop and get out and get matches so he could smoke. the store was closed. so they proceeded through west philadelphia and then hit upper darby township. again, this time the driver stopping at a sunoco gas station on west chester pike. he told the 21-year-old sister of brittany that he needed water for his diabetic medication.

essentially separating the two sisters and when that 21-year-old returned to the car, the car was now gone and the story goes that brittany was taken to northwest philadelphia. the details in between 20 minute drive very murky because police again say that brittany was under the influence but they say that she surfaced in northwest philadelphia where things quickly escalated into a robbe robbery. here's superintendent michael chitwood with upper darby police with more. >> he then asked her for her money, her phone and whatever other valuables she had on her. she refused to gift up. he then grabbed her phone and grabbed her credit card debit card. he then through her out of the car. drug her out of the car and through her out of the car. he took off. >> reporter: upper darby

township police quickly got the details on this out on social media and around 10:00 o'clock this morning they got call from haverford township police that brittany was apparently home. we're told that after she was dumped in northwest philadelphia, she headed over to the 7eleven and called philadelphia police for a ride. they gave her a ride home to havertown. of course arc lot of details remain to be determined but police right now actively looking for this supposed lyft driver involved in what they are classifying a robbery abduction and kidnapping. of course, the latest coming up on "eyewitness news" starting at 5:00. live in upper darby township, joe holden cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> certainly joe thanks lots of questions still yet to be answered in other news this noon authorities in gloucester county made an arrest in the connection with the discovery of a woman found dead in her backyard pool. the prosecutor's office announced the arrest of the 51-year-old norman long for the murder of his wife michelle lo long. authorities say long killed his 47-year-old wife inside their woolwich township home in june.

then placed her body in the pool. the victim's daughter spoke about her mother at a news conference late this morning. >> my mom was truly just the greatest person in the world. she was the best mimi. she became a grandmother a year ago. my nephew's first birthday was july 1st. we celebrated without her. we're just glad that the person that did this is now caught and we just miss her so much. >> in addition to a murder charge, norman long faces obstruction charges authorities say he called 911 and told first responders that his wife had drowned. may gate will sue the new jersey department of environmental protection and seek an injunction to halt controversial dune construction project. recent rains have left large pools of water on margate's beaches. the pools are sitting in newly built sand dunes. the army corps of engineers now working to pump the water out just a short time ago, margate commissioners pass add resolution seeking the lawsuit against the dep. in the meantime several beaches

withstanding watery mind closed until further notice. a manhunt continues this morning in montgomery county after a female runner sexually assaulted in park. it happened yesterday morning just before 11am in norristown farm park. police say the 19-year-old victim called 911 in a panic. she told authorities that a man pulled her off the trail and sexually assaulted her at gun point. officials say the suspect was hiding in the woods before the attack. people who visit the park often say they're shock. >> i just can't believe i missed it by 20 minutes. um, it's really nerve racking for me. it could have been me. it could have been anyone else. i could have easily been pulled n it's just really scary. >> norristown state hospital was on a brief lock down during the initial manhunt. but it has since reopened. crews are still gathering evidence in the 690-acre park. authorities say the suspect is armed and dangerous. the victim is recovering. another manhunt is on for the gunman who critically

injured two men in east mt. ai airy. police say the suspect pulled them to a vehicle last night on the 7700 block of williams avenue and opened fire. the passenger was hit in the chest. the driver hit in the head. investigators say person in the back seat jumped behind the wheel and rushed both victims to einstein hospital. and police in chester delaware county investigating the circumstances surrounding an early morning shooting. authorities say they found a victim in a car riddled with bullets at a gas station on edgemont avenue in east 22nd street. the victim was rushed to an area hospital. that person's identity and condition has yet to be releas released. well the coast guard is back out searching for a swim her who went missing near the steel peer in atlantic city. chopper three over the search effort this morning. officials say a bystander repo reported seeing a man enter the water around 10:00 o'clock last night but he never returned. the coast guard launched a patrol boater boat to look for the swimmer throughout the night. so far there's no sign of him. turning to the forecast you may want to keep your umbrellas handy.

the sun was shining all morning long. there's chance for thunderstor thunderstorms. meteorologist katie fehlinger live on the sky deck with more details when we can see wet weather. hi, katie. >> rahel, in fact some communities seeing a couple of pop up thunderstorms when i show you the radar in second you'll see see how things blossom out of virtual follow where but there's a rhyme to the reason here. but really just comes from the heating of the day. we're sitting in the midst of a very warm very humid and somewhat unstable air mass and that's helping to get these thunderstorms under way. there's not necessarily a system crossing through. so yeah, the sky deck right now no umbrella needed in you're about to ready to walk out the door for the rest of the afternoon i would walk out with the president trump legal take a look at this more regional zoom. you can see a lot of thunderstorms just -- it's almost like instantaneously they all just start to pop up across the region. so just outside of philadelphia county in fact in north philly or at least up towards southeastern montco southern bucks you may be running into frequent lightning out there at the moment, and this is going to

be kind of the theme throughout the day. where you get hit with the thunderstorms you can get drenched so again umbrellas not the worst idea. 86 the current temperature at the airport. we do still have several degrees left in us for the day and i think we'll get up to about 90 by the time the afternoon is all said and done. again, everything coming through in terms of wet weather will be scattered in nature but if you hear thunder, of course you want to head inside and we'll be dealing with the potential for some of these storms to drench us as they move through slowly through the afternoon and evening. much more on the forecast ahead though i'll let you know when this unsettled pattern wraps up later in the show. >> all right. katie see you soon. thank you. just days after north korea fired a rocket into the sea of japan the us air force successfully lunch launched one of its own the. >> test firing is meant to show american military's capability the white house is saying it's open to discussions with north korea. correspondent reports from washington. >> reporter: the us air force launched an unarmed inter continental ballistic missile overnight. the fourth test of its kind this

year. the minute man three missile launched from van den air force base in california and traveled more than 4,000 miles to in the pacific ocean. the show of military might comes after north korea launch the its own ballistic missile on friday. analysts say it had the range to hit los angeles and possibly even chicago or new york. on sunday the us flew two super sonic bombers over the korean peninsula and carried out a pr pre-planned missile defense test in the pacific. video shows what it would look like if a thad missile intercept add north korean rock. >> we're trying to convey to the nortnorth koreans we are not yor enemy. >> reporter: he can't of state rex tillerson said yesterday the trump administration is open to dialogue with north korea. tillerson seld the u.s. is not want a regime change but only with the understanding that they must give up their nuclear ambitions. >> we're not your threat. but you're presenting an unacceptable threat to us. >> reporter: the secretary of

state visits the philippines, thailand and malaysia later this week to discuss the situation on the korean peninsula. the missile launched by north korea game dangerously close to an air france jet traveling from tokyo to paris. us officials say the near miss put hundreds of lives in danger and these launches are posting a significant risk to commercial air space. air france however released a statement saying, north korea's missile test zones do not interfere with their flight paths but transportation experts say the global aviation system is not prepared for these unexpected missile launches. well, coming up on cbs3 "eyewitness news", lost then found. this class rink has been missing for decades and it's pretty remarkable how it was located. the details of the discovery coming up. also, shark attack caught on camera. but it's not a person the shark is coming after. why don't you -- wants to take a

welcome back. local woman is on a mission to return a lot of class ring. >> it isn't just any class rink it's from a woman who graduated from high school 68 years ago. here's the ring we're talking about from saint hubert's northeast philly it has the year 1949 on it. we spoke to the woman who found the ring near swimming quarry in hopewell, new jersey she said it was buried in hard pack dirt

with a tree root growing through it probably been there a long time much she's working with saint hubert's in hopes to track down the rightful owner. we are getting an extremely close look at one of nature month's ferocious sea creatures. if you have a fear of sharks look away. they set up a go pro camera off the cape of cape cod you see the shark swim coming, swim toward the camera and go in for big bite before it swims away. the scientists say the shark was probably about 12 feet long. very long. they're scary. >> may have just been hungry looking for snack. still ahead on "eyewitness news", power of live performan performance. >> sometimes all you need is music, right, meisha. >> that is right, rahel. what do we do with the precious time we have. for one family they're making every moment count. in today's love it we're meeting a young boy living his live simplest of pleasures. the joyful on his family coming up. >> meisha looking ahead to the up coming weekend at the moment looking upright tow nice one

katie morning was beautiful. >> um-hmm. >> it was definitely steamy outside. >> nice looking outside but there are definitely some thunderstorms already starting to ignite when you look at the three-hour loop it's like nothing and then all of a sudden, whoop, presto change. magic. >> thunderstorms starting to show up. i'll take you on little baby tour and show you one of the cells popped it is affecting philadelphia county and bringing in pretty heavy rainfall rates

at the moment. so we'll get to that and start things off just by taking out to what all in all granted it look hazy if you don't look closely it almost looks like it's cloudy it's actually just a lot of moisture here in ocean city where a lot of people obviously are lining the shore line keep it in mind, guys, i think generally speaking the shore should have a pretty nice afternoon. hot obviously but there may be a thunderstorm that pops at some point toward evening here. so just keep that in mine but for the moments all is well keep an eye on the horizon for any thunderstorms to pop up. let's go to storm scan and talk about that a little bit more detail. start off this loop against is three-hour loop starting back about nine, cohn 9:30 or so and then all of a sudden you snap your fingers and there come these lick speckles of lightning and rain that are coming down. everything is really really localized. but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you can get hit hard in a short amount of time. so these storms are coming through relatively sluggishly as well. i want to take off the satellite

and lightning layer and look at one pock here where the rainfall rates are as high as just shy of two and three quarters of an inch per hour. so that will lead to flash flooding. granted i don't think this cell will be over lower merion or route 1, that entire time but you can still end um with a very quick inch if it's over you long enough. so that flash flooding in a nutshell these are moving local enough going to see this kind of variety of showers and storms popping up pretty much the rest of the afternoon. in the meantime very briefly talk tropics here's all that's left of emily. at this point it's not even on the map. on the national hurricane center's website. but there is what's left of it. we do however have another area of potential any way for tropical development florida will be dealt another hand of soaking rain out of this likely no additional tropical development out of that in the next couple of days. now, back here at home, air quality alert still posted it's a pretty small cross second of the area chester, montco, bucks company, delco, philadelphia

county all included in it but that's it. so if you do live in this area, it's highly populated area obviously, you fall into the category of sensitive kids the elderly any kind of respiratory illness asthma sufferers take it easy today even thunderstorms comes through the air quality is less than ideal. pollution high. the high hits 90 in the meantime it's toasty afternoon. make no mistake another headline of the forecast here. later on tonight, things should dry out. albeit briefly in the wake of this afternoon and evening storms and then we flirt with 90 for both tomorrow and friday. again, watching for shower or thunderstorm either day primarily p.m. hours. by the time we hit saturday though transition time comes along turns less humid cools down sunday looking to be a gem and rain may return as early as monday. >> all right. katie, thank you. >> you got it. >> tale as old as time is playing out in north carolina moving the hearts of one family in particular. our meisha johnson is here now witness story. meisha. >> today month's love it we're meeting two-year-old boy whose

dress rehearsal of north carolina theater's beauty and the beast. and even met a couple of cast members afterwards. >> he smiled and laughed. that's the magic of the theater. there's a lot of elements to absorb. >> they loved it so much they wanted to come back and get a cast photo of the before the show closes sunday. >> to see him light up, you kn know, with many times he's not feeling good and in pain is, um, means more than words than can even describe. so i take those moments and really hold ton them. >> and so they did come back. and met the cast even the governor and the actress showed their wide range of really emotions for chance. >> angela says the smile is he saw on her son's face keeps her going knowing there's people and artists helping to make him and so many other families truly happy regardless of the circumstances. >> that's so sweet. >> so sweet. >> nice for that family. >> great night for that family
