starts right now. yes, it is, you're looking live over the atlantic ocean over the 7-mile island as we await, a summer if he surprise , in the sky, i think i see it there i'm in a to tasha brown in for ukee washington. >> hi everyone i'm jessica dean, coming to you live, from stone harbor, new jersey. we started 5:00 on the boat and here at 6:00 we are turning our eyes to the sky for a little fun, cbs-3 summer if he surprise. we will be keeping an eye on that with the camera. we want to share it with all of you. take a look, there is a big banner in the sky welcoming summer fest down the shore to avalon and stone harbor, guys, way to make us feel welcomed.

we want to say thanks to paramount air service for today's banner plane fly by and did you know paramount air service is nation's largest and oldest aerial advertising company, it goes back to the world war two era. they started flying along the new jersey coast in 1945. this history at every turn down here. old fashion planes are familiar sight, and so many people that come down here to the shore. we are so grateful they are part of the summer fest today. you know while stone harbor and avalon are two different communities, shore points, they do certainly share a lot of history. they share the 7-mile island for sure and they share a lot more than that as well. barrier island was purchased by the 7-mile beach company, in 1887. that company founded both avalon and stone harbor. but avalon was first to d during first 20 years the shore destination was created as a resort community complete with the railroad and inn where people came to stay.

>> the idea was we have to have a way to get people here. then they have to have somewhere to stay. so until that time the only way that visitors or anybody were getting on the island was a ferry boat. >> stone harbor was developed a short time later. it originally had a boardwalk but when 1944 hurricane blew through and took it down, residents decided they would ditch the board. today stone harbor pride itself on the residential feel , natural attractions and pure entertainment. it is a wonderful place, little over a hundred years old stone harbor, avalon is celebrating its 125th birthday this year. a lot of families have been coming here for many, many years and man, did we get, perfect weather, let's check with lauren case any avalon at wind drift high above with the wonderful view there, lauren? >> reporter: hey, i was just, i was just really doing

anything, hanging out here at wind drift hotel, sampling some of the beverage that is they have to offer. everyone is having a great time, the weather here is so gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky. check out that, view. yeah, not too bad for a days's work but conditions are beautiful. we have a nice weekend on tap. we will also even count sore storms but some will occur overnight with the cold front that will drop through and bring us, lots lower humidity as we head into our saturday afternoon. checking on our current conditions right now temperature running right around average as we look across the region. we are in the upper 80's in philadelphia, 82 in millville. nice sea breeze. going down the shore temperatures in the 70's to near 80 degrees. checking in more specifically 79 in stone harbor. feeling great ocean city 78 degrees. eighty-one right now in cape may. ocean temperature up to 75. brief quiet conditions across the delaware valley, finally getting a break from afternoon

and evening rain today but severe then are storm watch is in effect up wind with that line of storms advancinge but that line will arrive for us during the overnight period so we won't have heating of the day. so i don't think we will have that severe thunderstorm threat but we will hear a couple of rumbles or swimming through overnight tonight. but that cold front will bring us some really nice conditions , and we will talk more about the timing of these storms, and when that dryer air will arrive for our weekend, coming up in your full forecast, in just a few, jessica. >> lauren, thanks very much. it is certainly warm out here, a perfect day to be in the water, and, they are incredible water sports there that you can take part in all kind. we sent out pat gallen to try them out and here's what he found. >> reporter: need something fun for the summer? island water sports in stone harbor has the key to keeping kid and parents happy for 29 years. >> what are you doing.

looks good right now if you want to get on the action island water sports is opened seven days a week but they say call ahead because sometimes they get booked up, everybody wants to be out there a long being with on the water and doing things at the beach, what else goes with the shore? well, ice cream. pretty much synonymous with shore points and vittoria woodill did some investigating and she found quite the ice cream creations, tori, tell us about that. >> better yet have you ever heard of the ship wreck. >> yes. >> okay, yeah. if you are from avalon, stone harbor you know what the ship wreck is. ship wreck is something i feel , every family should take on and you'll see what it is next. you'll also see hoy brought with me to help me out. take a look. ahoy avalon open up wide. the buccaneer is challenging to you sink your teeth into their ship wreck sunday. have you ever finished a ship wreck. >> um-hmm. >> no, you haven't.

and just a wonderful way to enjoy, what this whole area has to offer. these kid are also enjoying what this area has to offer. i think they have been there since i arrived, around i don't know 2:30 or so and they have not stopped. they have been on the slide, they have been in the water, just enjoying what has been a gorgeous day down the shore. lets go to meteorologist lauren casey who has a look at our weekend forecast, hi there , lauren. >> hi, jessica beautiful day here in avalon, at wind drift hotel, they are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and what did i before with me? the mobile weather watcher, of course, parked downstairs, taking a gauge of our current conditions here which right now are absolutely perfect, not too hot or cold, mobile weather watcher catching some rays and feeling sea breeze which is in fully affect. it is a beautiful day, beautiful evening here in avalon. we will keep it nice, clear as we head in the next several hours. temperatures have been cooling

off. we are falling back in the 70 's with a sea breeze that has kicked in over last several hours pulling in that cooler air off the atlantic, avalon cooler by a mile, just out further then stone harbor in the atlantic. but temperatures right now 85 in philadelphia we're at 80 in ac. seventy-nine in wildwood. we have cooler temperatures up wind, 72 degrees right now, toward state college, seven to degrees in scranton because of the cold front that is working itself across the region and will be dropping toward the delaware valley heading in the overnight per. we will bring you a chance of storms and we will bring us a much more comfortable air, comfort index right new we are in that steamy category with dew points in the middle 60's and as we head in the day tomorrow these dew points will be dropping off, on the back side of the system. but we have a chance of storms , but it will arrive as we head overnight tonight, most of us will be still sleeping, a dry afternoon, for a finally some quiet conditions, we did have storms through poconos but all of the

storm activity has concentrate add cross central pennsylvania where severe thunderstorm watch is in effect. that will move in for us but because it is moving in the overnight period we won't have energy from the heating of the day so we could see stronger storms especially west of i-95 , otherwise we will see a storm trans as we head in the early morning hours, increasing cloud, low of 73 degrees. all together most of the storm activity will be while we are sleeping and then we will quickly clear on out as we head into our saturday. but checking in right now, on what to expect as far as future weather is concern, overnight tonight, that line, kind of broken will be weakening as it traverses the delaware valley arrival time three or 4:00 a.m. in center city philadelphia down the shore, early tomorrow morning but once those cells move off shore by mid-morning that is it for our rain chances for upcoming weekend and turning into sunshine midday in the afternoon tomorrow, and 79 degrees down the shore, and absolutely perfect beach day, all on sunday get out beach

we have lots of sports. >> yes, we're talking about some bird. >> take a deep breath, chill, it will be all right. eagles top free agent alshon jeffery missed four straight practices but they say he is healthy. doug pederson allowed him to rest his sprained shoulder for one more day, lagarrette blount is back in action after missing three days of practice for personal reasons. last season he led nfl in rushing touchdowns but here, in philly, he is not quite sure where he stand. >> i'm still not 100 percent sure, where i fit in the games we will see how things shake up with the games. we will see how we want to do things. you never know. >> who will get it up in there and he will get tough yard and we just to have block for him. >> fair enough. >> everybody loves a good red trip but it is all fun and games until they have a car break down in the middle of no where with no cell service. sounds scary? maybe that is how phillies feel.
