live from the broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news " this morning. darren daulton, he was a leader in the clubhouse and a fighter on the dime. but his toughest battle was off the field. this morning philly fans mourning the passing of darren daulton. and new this morning, the teenager shot while walking down the street. the story he's telling police and why investigators are having a difficult time solving the crime. and more thunderstorms are on the way as we look live at center city. now the timetable for when they'll be rolling through town. and today is monday, august 7th. good morning, i'm rahel solomon. >> i'm joe holden. jim done donovan is off. how about a check of today's

forecast and with katie and a check of traffic with meisha. >> let's do it. >> get right to it. >> who is this guy? >> good to see you. looking outside right now, really this construction, dry roadways, good for now. >> bingo, exactly, the rain hasn't and lived yet, certainly on the way. see on storm scan in a second. flashflood watch we'll touch on first and take a look who is sitting in that. notice not the entire region, we all get hit with rain, but don't worry much about the flashflood concern, off to the north and west, because you haven't had the saturday ration from recent rains like you have through southern new jersey, southeast most pennsylvania, and all of the state of delaware. we've again getting slammed with soaking rain in recent rounds of systems coming through here, so that's why that flashflood threat is so pronounce in the this zone. soap, just the counties shaded in the sea foam green coloring , a lot of greene on the radar approaching already. count on the weather watchers

look good there. we do have some construction, northeast extension north and southbound at lansdale. left lane compromised there. look at the pa turnpike between norristown, route 29. two right lanes blocked there. joe, rahel, back to you. >> meisha, thank you very much phillies fans this morning are sharing memories of darren daulton. >> the all-star catcher battled brain cancer for four years, battle he lost yesterday at 55. daulton spent most every his 15 major league seasons with the phillies, left handed hitter went through three all-star games, as his fans and teammates, ran wild clubhouse that won the national league championship in 1993. they lost the world series to the toronto blue jays in six games, but daulton finally got world series ring after traded to the florida marlins in 1997 and then retired. sports radio 94wi pp spoke to host ricky ricardo and what dalton meant to the team. >> in the only was this man part of the fab rigs of this sit, especially that 1993 team

that went to the world series, but he was a man's man. he represented what philadelphia was all about. blue collar, shot in the beer, hard-working player. >> and doctors diagnosed daulton with brain cancer back in 2013. in 2015 he declared himself cancer free, the disease came back last year, daulton survived by his wife and four children, his parents and his brother. funeral will be private. >> phillies chairman, bill giles, issued this statement, reads in part quoting i really enjoyed watching him for 14 years in uniform. darren was a super human being his teammates loved him. i loved him. like he was one of my own. end quote. >> and this morning's front page of the daily news shows daulton in his playing days headline: good but, dutch. >> we look back at the life and legacy darren daulton. phillies coach mickey morandine ' shares his thoughts on his former

teammate. >> well, in other news this morning, for the second time in less than a month, chaos erupt outside of a rec center in east germantown. >> police say hundreds of teams crowded together some even started reportedly throwing rocks. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do live outside the lonnie run rec re aches center more on this cook out chaos, trang, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, joe and rahel. this appears to be organized by the same group of teens responsible for last month's cook out in this very same location, but this time, police had to arrest three people. philadelphia police ushered dozens every young people along chelten avenue away from the lonnie young recreation center in east germantown. where some 300 teens gathered sunday night. police say they had no choice but to break up the group around 10:00 p.m. when some of the crowd began to get rowdy and throw rocks at police. officers arrested three people for vandalism to patrol cars. a similar scene un fowl dollars three weeks ago at the

same rec center. a cook out advertised on social media attracted some 400 teens. videos posted on line show young people banking on cars and talking -- taunting police officers. some of the kids began hurling bottles at them. officers did not make any arrests and the crowd eventually dispersed. police had a message for parent then, a good reminder once again after the second disturbance at lonnie young in a month. >> i know it is nice to have the fresh air, and to be out with their friends on a summer night. but par parent have to be aware what their children are doing, who they're with. and what they're getting involved in. >> and fortunately, no one was hurt in either incident. but after last month's incident, house woman cindy vast represent this area really emphasized the need for the city to help provide job opportunity for teens in the summer, as well as recreation. but for now, live in east germantown, i'm trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news," joe, rahel, back to you. >> all right, trang, thank you

>> new this morning, teenager shot in philadelphia's kensington section, police were called to the home after 13 year old boy just after 11:30 last night. now the boy told officers apparently he was walking near the intersection sean of kensington and ontario where he heard shot and in the dollars he had been hit in his right foot. however, nearby business owners didn't hear any shot, according to officer, and surveillance cameras didn't help. >> application checked private surveillance cameras in the area. those cameras didn't show any type of activity. we're not certain at this time that this 13 year old boy is telling us the truth. >> well, now police confirm the boy was actually shot. they brought him to st. christopher hospital. he's going to be okay. investigators are questioning the boy, and still searching that scene there. >> high speed chase comes to a crashing ends in south philadelphia after police say the driver carjacked a septa employee. now, the day's long chase started early yesterday

morning,ly say hit, carjacked septa employee near fourth and spring garden, and then stole gas at gunpoint in south jersey, while claiming to be a cop. officers spotted him back in the city, and the chase was on one eyewitness said it looked like a scene from a movie. >> he came flying on sixth street, like the cops like two blocks, when he came driving past us, he almost hit a car right here on sixth street. came around it, came down here >> well that carjacking suspect was arrested after crashing into a parked car. police have charged him with theft and i am percent nature ago officer. philadelphia police continue looking for the hit-and-run driver who killed a woman in center city. investigators say an s.u.v. hit 53 year old ann broderick, happened at 13th and race streets around 3:20 a.m. sunday morning, pronounced dead short time later. searching for few err model jeep rubecon. if you have any information, police want to hear from you.

, where emanuel says the city won't be blackmailed into changing it values as a welcoming city. last week the president introduced new immigration bill, favoring application can't who can speak english and financially support themselves. >> new jersey governor chris christie is inviting president trump to stay at a state-owned beach house on the jersey shore. now, the resident in island beach state park made headlines last month after governor christie was photographed lounging on the beach, that was ordered closed during the state's government shutdown. president trump is currently in the garden state, visiting his in bed minute store. >> the welcome any time he want. we would welcome him with open arms. we're just happy that the president decided of all of the places he could go for some relaxation, at least a little bit, during august, that he's coming to the state of new jersey. >> and president trump will be in the garden state until august 20th, it is unclear if

ask me, terry goggans, how our balance of technology and people can help you. >> back on "eyewitness news," central pennsylvania town returns to normal after residents forced to leave following its train derailment six carson csx train hopped the tracks last wednesday, happened in bedford county. nobody was hurt, but three train cars and local garage caught fire. residents evacuated for three days, and many stayed at hotels or with relatives. >> i went to work every day. i had the same set of scrubs for three days.

>> frustrating, you know, not to be back in your hometown. but thanks happen, you know. >> some cars on the freight train were caring flammable liquid asphalt. csx is investigating what caused the train to derail in the first place. >> meanwhile, 30 people are rushed to the hospital after a tornado rips through tulsa, oklahoma take a look at some of the buildings. tornado hit the area just after 1:00 a.m. sunday morning , authority say 30 people were treated for minor injuries, high winds tore off roofs, downed power lines, several businesses and homes were severely damaged. >> and the time is now 4:45 this morning. clearly not dealing with anything like that. but some drenching rain possibly? >> that's definitely on the order, on the dock it here today, guys. already some rain currently working it way in. there may be little lull in the action at least late morning, very early afternoon, but generally, this is a wash out of a day, i would absolutely walk out the door with a raincoat, umbrella, something to stay dry. because already that rain is moving n some of it quite heavy. >> this isn't even the

heaviest it will be getting, couple every inches in the works here worth of rainfall amount for some of you, specific to the places that are going to see that flashflood watch take effect later this afternoon at noontime specifically. this is southeastern two thirds of our their are included there. so, i can't say i'm crazy how this future weather model is initializing, but good guide, at least, notice, there is already again rain moving in early this morning, but the heavy stuff still holding off. only pent back over south central pennsylvania, maryland , into the late morning, then it does eventually work its way through here. by the time this is all through here, talking couple of hours worth every drenching rain into the early afternoon, rough stuff for the early afternoon commuters i'm sure. but even though this starts to clear out, it will have left behind couple of inches worth of rainfall, especially true for the areas saturated with drenching rain, recent rounds every rain. could you easily have to deal with some flashflooding, because so much water already in the soil, you'll have to keep an eye on even some of the weaker trees sitting out there right now.

rain, thunderstorms, into the philly area, will amount anywhere from one to 2 inches in the poconos, shouldn't be as bad, still inch. to inch. and a half, heaviest rain absolutely goes to south jersey and delaware. locally, there could be higher amount than even two and a half inches. possibility, some could pick up as much as 4 inches every rainout of. >> this now, looking forward tuesday, wednesday, nice fresh air, get past today. look at the warm up. temperatures really get held back today from the rain, back to the 80s, for the long hall, starting tomorrow. meisha? >> all right, katie, thank you so much. and good morning, everyone, happy monday. so, we were looking at some construction here, resurfaced project on the schuylkill. camera shot showing the schuylkill near the blue route , headlights light eastbound direction, and eastbound, what you are looking at between gulph mills , city avenue, where the project was taking place on the eastbound side, does look like it could be cleared, westbound between gladwynn, blue route, we believe that's still out there. but eastbound side clear, westbound side hopefully clearing soon. vine, not closed overnight for the construction, you can see

>> the rain is moving into the delaware valley, specific to the south and west most counties, where you're finding rain already. but this will over spread the delaware valley as the morning progresses. there is going to be another rounds of steadier, heavier rain, perhaps you see little bit of a lull at some point, late this morning, but that's real about the most you can hope for. meantime obviously some rain, some of it heavily moving into parts of lancaster county, new castle county, it will, again, continue to over spread our area throughout the morning. so, all of the commute, the big ones, absolutely impacted by this with the showers moving in this morning, after about 10:00 a.m., the heaviest of the rain, though, does sarg

start to new jersey in, there will be some thunderstorms rumbles in along with it, and the rain will begin to wrap up later tonight. so, again, this is essentially all day wash out, and, again, may be few lulls in the action. but, for the most part, we will be stuck with this throughout our monday. we don't need the rain for a change. so, this is going to be one of the situations where i do think we run into flashflooding specially southeastern half of the area. but the good news, meisha, we do begin to clear it out already by tomorrow. and we're in for some pretty pleasant weather all-in-all for the majority of the week. >> all day wash out, certainly , katie, no the what we want to hear on a monday, but the silver lining is tomorrow. to get through this morning. so, so far what we're seeing right now, dry roadways, we know the rain will be moving in, so enjoy it while we have t what we're looking at right now, where we had the resurfaced project overnight. that's clearing. the eastbound side between gulph mills and city area, you are actual actually actually looking, blue route, looking pretty good. westbound side, clearing out of the way now. then the vine, it was not closed overnight for
