jim donovan is off today. a home invasion suspect is now in can you custody. police say the suspect's crime spree began in mount airy. the home invasion happened around 9:30 last night on the 200 block of west mount airy avenue. police say the man then drove the homeowner's suv to a bank on city avenue and tried to use her atm card. officers spotted him near saint joe's university in overbrook where he ditched the car and then shed his pants and shoes in a nearby yard. >> my biggest concern is safety, you know, it was at night. i have a son. he plays outside. >> generally good neighborhood but every once in awhile something crazy happens and comes in my front yard. >> now, police have not yet released where they caught up with that suspect. he's now in custody. charges are pending. >> former penn state fraternity members back in court today for a preliminary hearing. they face charges in connection with the february

death of timothy piazza. piazza fell down the stairs at the beta theta pi house after a night of heavy drinking. no one called for help after 12 hours. our greg argos is at the hearings and he will have a report later today on "eyewitness news." >> and taylor swift has just taken the stand in a denver courthouse claiming she was groped by a former radio host in 2013. the singer testified that it was "a definite grab, a very long grab underneath her skirt." did not call police to report the assault because she didn't want the incident to define her daughter's life. the radio host sued swift and her team claiming the claim cost him his job. >> officials investigating a deadly fire that destroyed a mobile home. the fire broke out shortly after midnight on the 23,000 block of lawrence lane.

authorities say firefighters found one person dead inside of that home. state fire investigators are working to pinpoint where the fire started and what caused it. they estimate the fire damage at $30,000. >> firefighters are recovering today after being exposed to carbon monoxide fumes in chester county. crews rushed to the 200 block of west gay street in west chester yesterday after reports of an underground fire. authorities evacuated businesses near the old west chester courthouse around 3:30 in the afternoon. assistant fire chief scanlon collapsed. he was revived by his colleagues and rushed to the hospital along with four other firefighters. >> he sat up eventually and he seemed to be okay and then, you know, two minutes later they came back to the restaurant asking for more help. >> also as a precaution four other firefighters also were sent to the hospital and all of them are doing fine. they're receiving treatment now and we don't expect any long term effects. >> the fire reportedly started with an underground electrical

wire. officials say one home and one business were impacted. >> the suspect accused of injuring a delaware county sheriff's sergeant in collingdale appeared for an arraignment this morning. authorities say jeremy jones threw a molotov cocktail at the sergeant yesterday afternoon. the sergeant suffered burns to his legs as he tried to serve a search warrant at a home on macdade boulevard. authorities say jones then barricaded himself inside of the home before he finally surrendered. an eyewitness describes the intense scene. >> he turns around and throws a bomb outside, explosion. that's why more cops came from all over and he had the -- they had their guns drawn. >> now, the sergeant was taken to the hospital for treatment but is expected to be okay. authorities tell "eyewitness news" they found what they believe to be several more molotov cocktails inside the suspect's home. >> it has been nearly five months since the murder of a burlington county mother and her six-year-old son and now authorities are asking for the public's help in solving the

crime. sasha and her son anish were stabbed inside their maple shade in march. the fbi has stepped in to help with the investigation. >> when you have a close knit community like where this occurred and in the community in which it occurred, you know, people see something, they know something, they don't necessarily know that it was important or maybe they're reluctant to come to law enforcement and we thought that it might help make people a little bit more comfortable coming forward and speaking to us. >> the victim's husband said he discovered the bodies when he came home from a work happy hour party. if you have any information, please call police. turning to the forecast now, it looks like we can enjoy one more warm and sunny afternoon before that humidity creeps back in. meteorologist kate fehlinger joins us live from the cbs3 sky deck with a look at some increasing rain chances as we head into tomorrow. katie. >> that is right, jan. i think all in all we're going to wrap up our work week on a

relatively okay note but you said it best, that humidity is what starts to real make things a little bit more uncomfortable. it's not oppressive, it's august, it's not like we don't expect this but the kind of humidity levels we're dealing with, oh, it's so comfortable outside. i will say however you notice that sunshine s it is definitely heating things up here at the surface with no problem. so, we definitely have that august warmth with us out there, just not so much humidity. taking a quick weak peek outside at some of our neighborhood network camera shots we start up towards the pocono region, not quite there but in the carbon monroe county area, there's a couple of patchy clouds overhead, currently 80 degrees and nothing but umbrellas as far as the eye can see with a picturesque beach day at rehoboth. up and down the jersey shore and the delaware beaches it was absolutely beautiful right now. nothing but a clear sky on storm scan right now. so let's move it forward. we take a look at the area temperatures as they stand. mid 80's pretty much is where

$382 million. federal investigators are looking into a series of mysterious illnesses involving u.s. diplomats working in havana cuba. the state department employees began complaining of hearing lose constant painful headaches and other issues late last year. sources tell cbs news u.s. officials are investigating whether the incidents were caused by a type of acoustic device that was placed either or outside of homes provided by the cuban government to embassy workers. >> as tensions be continue to escalate north korea now challenging president trump's fire and fury comments with new warnings. verb nation released a detailed plan about how it will threaten gaum. paula read is at the white house with this latest provocation. >> reporter: north korea's military says it will be ready by mid august. simultaneously launch four missiles that will fly over japan and land in the waters offer the u.s. territory of gaum. the florida and is awaiting

at boulder city council meeting tuesday night. luckily the city top firefighter was actually at that meeting and he helped extinguish the flames. we're told the woman it's cell phone was not the culprit, it was another battery in her purse that malfunctioned. the woman was treated for minor burns to her legs. >> well, still ahead on "eyewitness news," the mooch is lining up some tv appearances including one you can watch right here on cbs3. >> coming up what stephen colbert is saying about the short lived white house communications director. his upcoming stint on the late show. katie. >> as we get closer to the weekend things are coming a bit more into focus. while i don't see you'll see a total washout it just turn more unsettled. saturday looks like the wetter of the two weekend days but even still scattered storms. sunday is starting to look up. this little disturbance may drop far enough south that we end up with a partly sunny sky. we'll still allow a chance for a few showers in the southeast part of our area but all in

>> yesterday you said it would be a perfect day and it was. today a little more of the same. it's a little more hot. >> definitely a little hotter. the dewpoints are still really low. we got to keep in mind the sun angle is still very much -- it's strong, put it that way so i'm standing out on the sky deck wearing my black dress and i'm like, whew. that quickly. didn't take long. so, expect that. but it doesn't feel oppressive outside. definitely a difference. >> really nice. >> exactly. bingo. these kind of humidity levels you don't typically get them throughout the span of time

during the month of august. it is still an absolutely beautiful beginning to the afternoon here. so, keep in mind that eventually if things do start to go south so for now enjoy this. let's take you outside and start things off with a quick view outside the musikfest festivities going on in bethlehem. this is main street in bethlehem where just from high atop hotel bethlehem things are looking beautiful. should be a nice afternoon and evening and if i'm not mistaken the big act today is toby keith out at the sands casino plaza there so should be a really good show and really great weather for all the fans that will be tailgating for all of this and anything else that you have going on here today, you are fine. it looks absolutely stellar. not just in the lehigh valley but really everywhere else. i mean, the radar, there's a look of anything on it that really tells that story. off to the west we have some heavier rounds of rain actually rolling in toward the spine of the appalachians and it's tough to tell by looking at this map, in fact as i zoom out you'll see a little bit

clearer perhaps but there are two separate front that we sort of sit between here. now, these are basically putting us in a squeeze play but technically high pressure is still on our side. we are however going to see more unsettled weather unfold. you can see how it's been rolling towards us in the last couple of hours and really the last day and a half or so. so, eventually it does turn south in that regard. the current dewpoint is only 59 after all and remember that golden rule, the lower the dewpoint, the drier the air. in short, the more comfortable it will feel to you. and since we're right on the edge of pleasant and not bad i highlighted both of them for you but with time even as early as tonight it may start to feel just a little stickier. rahel said it. it's august. it's not like this atypical. >> at the airport nice calm wind. the wind direction starting to shift a little bit. as that wind turns more southerly as it will continue to do throughout the rest of the day it may not be a super breezy day but that wind flow is sending in warmth and

humidity but we're also starting to heat up that water temperature at the shore so this is one of those picture perfect beach days. enjoy it. water temperatures in the mid 70's, a couple outliars like sea isle. lots of sunshine for you throughout the rest of the afternoon and averaging out at about 75 for that water temperature. not bad. the playground is also a great place to go. we're expecting a high of 87 degrees in philadelphia with the low humidity continuing and because you don't have too much of a heat index or rather the humidity to factor in, the heat index is also 87 degrees this afternoon. meanwhile looking forward in the eyewitness weather seven day, okay, i still want to allow at least a lingering shower on sunday but odds are good at this point especially the further north and west you travel that sunday stays dry so that's a bonus but saturday still does look unsettled. tomorrow perhaps there's a shower north and west. monday, jumping past the weekend, there may be in steadier rain that day, too. it all kind of depends on this
