virginia as a white national lift rally spirals out of control. counter protesters took to the streets in charlottesville, a speeding car slammed into them killing a 32-year-old woman and now police say 20-year-old james fields is under arrest. nearby, two virginia state tra patrol troopers were killed in a helicopter crash while assisting public safety resources with that rally. the troopers are identified as lieutenant hj cullen and trooper pilot burke base. in addition to the one woman killed, at least 19 others injured in the car ramming incident the city said there were at least 15 other injuries associated with the schedule rally. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us tonight. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette in charlottesville v have a. she's got the very latest. >> reporter: natasha this is still very much an active crime scene here tonight. with police tape strung up and the block closed police vehicles here on the scene the state mobile crime lab showed up a

couple hours ago. a rainstorm just came through hopefully that will help people the city peaceful tonight. after very violent day. this video shows the moment a car mode down demonstrators peacefully marching against a white national lift rally in charlottesville, virginia. >> let the car in. they thought it was a cop car. >> reporter: john ziegler captured the chaos. >> there was no doubt in anybody's mind that it was planned terrorist attack. >> reporter: authorities say a 32-year-old woman was hit and killed. the driver was taken into custody. >> we're currently treating this as a criminal homicide investigation. >> reporter: hours after the crash, police were still here on the scene investigating. city residents say they wished the rally was never planned in charlottesville. >> peaceful city. great place to be. we're tourist destination and this is not right. >> reporter: it was far from peaceful for most of the day. as those gathered to protest the city's decision to remove a

confederate statue from public park clashed with counter protesters. >> this declared an unlaw fell assembly. >> virginia governor declared a state of emergency in the city. >> to all the white supremacists and nazis who came into charlottesville today, our message is plain and simple. go home. >> reporter: president trump called for peace. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms this agregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides. >> reporter: in separate incident linked to the rally authorities say a state police helicopter crashed in ad wood area outside the city. killing two people on board. i spoke to photojournalist struck by the car but not hurt. he says he heard tires scrolling and was able to get out of the direct path of the vehicle just in time. he said when he turned around, he saw bodies flying and total panic. in charlottesville, virginia, wendy gillette, cbs3 "eyewitness

news". >> well again here is the look at what we know so far the governor of virginia says a 32-year-old woman is among three people who have been killed during the rally in charlottesville two virginia state troopers were killed in that nearby helicopter crash. 19 others were injured during the rally the driver of a car that slammed into crowds was taken into custody. a state of emergency continues in virginia in response to this violence today. also tonight in doylestown, bucks county, the rise up doylestown group held solidarity rally. "eyewitness news" at state and main streets where the rally wrapped up shortly before 8:00 o'clock. shouts of donald trump could be heard from across the street speakers were take the podium. organizers say their rally was directed against the violent images they've witnessed today in virginia. >> we are going to spend our big voices and our huge, huge love to the people of charlottesville, virginia, who

have been attacked. who have been mimicked and assaulted by wheat supremacy and hatred today. >> speakers say they want all people to feel welcomed visiting and living in doylestown. protesters also gathered at philadelphia city hall tonight. they held vigil for the three people killed in charlottesville today. the protest was organized by the group philly social lifts. the group rtedly left city hall about 8:00 o'clock then started marching down the vine street express expressway from broad street going eastbound. no reports of any injuries or arrest. peaceful vigil and protest the there. >> had woodbury gloucester county police rough the body of a man who jumped into lake during a shoplifting investigation. the prosecutor's office says woodbury police were called to this wawa at 3:50 this morning. when officers tried to speak with a 20-year-old man, he entered the woodbury lake and refused orders to get out of the water. as the man swam away officers lost sight of him.

his body was finally recovered at 10:30 this morning. the cause of death accidental drowning. a woman in lawn crest says she was shot as she went to close an open window overnight and now philadelphia police are trying to figure out if someone targeted her just before pulling the trigger. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh caught up with very concerned neighbors. >> reporter: philadelphia police say 58 year old woman who happens to work in security at family court was shot multiple times through her bedroom window overnight. she told investigators she had been lying in bed when she noticed her window was open. when she went to close it, she heard several gunshots and was hit in the left arm, chest and abdomen. >> next thing you know, she felt a burning sensation in her arm. so is he woke up, saw a little blood. >> it happened around 12:30 saturday morning at a home on the 8500 block of somerdale avenue in the northeast section of the city. >> all just a shock. >> reporter: neighbors describe hearing the commotion. >> is it what i think it is

which was gunshots? we went inside, lock all the doors, turned off all the lights. >> reporter: police are looking into whether it was this a home invasion and believe the victim may have been targeted. that police say is because of the location of the punctured window screen. they also found a bullet hole in the victim's pillow. >> it appears that someone would have to scl actually climb on to chair to actually fire into the bedroom area. report roar police say the suspect then tried unsuccessfully to get into the home and the victim's husband arrived home from work shortly afterwards. >> she thought it was the bad guys that shot her. she was trying to push the door closed, not realizing it was her husband trying to come in after work. >> reporter: leisha roberts lives down the street and due with baby girl in about a week. now she'll be taking extra precautions. >> they're still on the streets that does scare me. have i pepper spray with me at all times. >> victim is in stable condition at jefferson hospital. investigators are following

leads and trying to find surveillance video in the area. in northeast philadelphia, anita oh cbs3 "eyewitness news". update now to story we've been following since friday night. a person is in custody following last night's shooting in a target parking lot in northeast philly. the store on the 7400 block of bustleton avenue was put in lock down mode during the incident. investigators say a man was shot after stepping in when he saw his friend in fight. he's currently in stable condition target shoppers meantime hid frantically after hearing the gunfire. last night a person of interest turned himself. they haven't announced any a rest for charges just yet. >> many victims of violence are children who faced more adversity than we can possibly imagine. some of those kids were busy making care packages from camden's homeless. cleve bryan met a few of these boys and girls today using past experiences to encourage others

rt. >> reporter: filled with snacks and hygiene products these bags going out to the homeless in camden decorated with inspirational quotes from local kids. >> i wrote, be positive and make a change. write your own psychiatrist. >> the rest of her live script doesn't have to be the same as the first act. she and the rest of the kids who wrote these encouraging words share a common tragic thread. each lot of loved ones to violence. >> 2011 i lost my cousin like my father figure and just like hurt me real bad and i didn't how to deal with it. >> what they needed was a safe place to heel and found it at saving grace ministry in camden. she lost her husband to gun violence. >> he was shot 18 time and at the time we were raising one child. >> reporter: over the last seven years saving grace helped more than 400 children who lost family members to violence. they offer mentor ship, tutoring, counseling and most importantly hope for a better tomorrow. >> if you're going to reach the

violence continues. if you don't go after the teenager who's feel angry and confused about their fathers being murdered they become the next murderer. >> hurt people often hurt others healed people can do great work healing others. they'll have a saving grace amazamazing race doing good dees throughout camden including giving school supplies to kids and care packages to the homeless. >> we pour into them and we always tell them to pour into others. >> you can let somebody else define your story. >> reporter: anyone can take part in saving grace ministries amazing race on sunday morning. just come to the facility here at fifth and spruce and they'll geoff get you out on the street helping those in need. come out to the family pun day here from 12:00 to 5:00. in cam, cleve bryan, cbs3 "eyewitness news". also tonight people gathered in center city to march for a unified philadelphia. folks of all ages came out for the first philadelphia unity rally and march at logan square this afternoon.

we do continue to follow breaking news out of shore lot lotsville, virginia. at least three people are dead and at least 19 others injured. state of emergency was declared for the community after groups clash as people gathered for a white vest mist rally. police declared the gathering unlawful and began breaking up the crowd when a car plowed into the counter protesters in the streets. the unite the right rally was organized to protest the decision to remove statue of general robbed e lee from a park. when we're not on the air you can get the latest at cbsphilly.com.

guam meantime it is on high alert tonight as north korea intensifies its threats of attack. north korea is threatening to launch four ballistic missiles toward the us territory as early as mid august. guam homeland security is in 24 hour watch mode now monitoring every update. also distributing information to get residents ready. >> i think everyone should be prepared for the worst, you know, to expect the unexpected. may or may not do it. you never know. >> chinese and french leaders are calling for a peaceful resolution between the u.s. and north korea. also japan deployed its missile defense system today as normal core rocket boss have to fly over japan. also making headlines tonight, internationall internay military forces opened fire to disperse opposition protests in the nairobi. human rights groups estimate 24 people are dead. the tension escalated after demonstrators blocked roads and set up burning barricades. police and protesters are

clashing over yen's presidential election results because frosters claim that election was rigged. we do have a winner. one lucky person matched all sick numbers in last night'ings mega millions jackpot drawing their prize, $393 million. the winning ticket was sol at nick's barbecue in illinois a few miles south of chicago. the news is just as good for that restaurant which received $500,000 just for selling that winning tick. >> we found out about midnight one of our managers he was watching i guess and i was sleeping actually, and woke me up and we've been up all night. we're very excited, and it's unbelievable. >> the jackpot winner also has the option of cashing in for $246 million. three tickets matched the first five minutes to win the second prize. the jackpot resets to 15 million for a drawing coming up this tuesday.

the jazz on the avenue music festival came back to fill daal for its 11th year. festival goers walk up and down see s. sill b. moore avenue this afternoon and shopped among local vendors on the avenue between broad and 17th street streets. self grammy nominated musicians gave free perform maps as well. organizers say the festival celebrates the rich in jazz history in the area back when cecil b. moore was still columbia avenue. good that everybody was able to get outdoor activities without getting rained on. >> my gosh, i know. isn't that the truth? we had a lot of clouds around today. kind of a gray saturday but sonnei day promising to be much better, natasha. the official high temperature today was 83 degrees. that's about 3 degrees below average for this time of year. the average high is right around 86. temperatures have now full len back into the mid 70's for many areas across the delaware vall valley. 76 degrees right now in philadelphia. 74 in wilmington. 76 in millville. we're in the mid 70s down the shore for wildwood, atlantic city, some areas that did

receive some rain and even some stronger storms today, have fallen back into the 60s. like reading upper 60 there is. 68 degrees. 70 degrees in lancaster. we have dew points that are still very elevated. upper 60 60s. lower 70s even mid 70s. very uncomfortable in millville at 75 degrees. also dealing with some rain that way. i'll check of storm scan storm . we are very uncomfortable area across the region throughout date today. that will be changing significanting as we head into your sun many storm three shows things have quited down but we look down to our south into portions of central delaware near dover dealing with light rainfall. also into southern new jersey. things are going to be quieting down, though, after about the midnight hour tonight and we'll be dealing with those mostly cloudy skies seasonal conditions as low temperatures fall back into the upper 60s. future weather confirm that for us. we'll deal with a couple of clouds along the coast as we start off the day tomorrow morning but otherwise plenty of

sunshine in philadelphia waking up and plenty of sunshine as we head into your afternoon so definitely looking much better for part two of the weekend compared to what he were dealt with throughout the day today. mostly sunny skies and always high temperature right around 8. that northwest wind at five to ten. is going to help to pull some drier air for us. quick check of our neighborhood network boardwalk plaza in rehoboth. a couple of people playing beach volleyball earlier tonight. a couple of people out on the boardwalk but earlier this afternoon saw wet boards on that boardwalk but that didn't stop vacationers from getting outside enjoying the beach as best they can even though we dealt with rain and some storms down the coast today and down the shore. down the shore tomorrow looking. better increasing sunshine. 81 degrees. then we're in the upper 70s as we head into monday and tuesday. we have a new tropical depression. we are monitoring tropical depression number eight located just north and east of the turks and caicos islands. winds at 35 miles per hour. moving to the north northwest at

leslie still got eagles news for us. >> the eagles back at work again today putting the pads back op at training camp. two and a half hour session doug pederson getting his team ready for the next preseason game which will be thursday against the bills. newest eagle cornerback ronald darby watching practice from the side lines he cannot participate until jordan matthews passes his physical in buffalo. ronald is expected to start when the season begins in washington and darby has world class speed and loves to play man to man coverage. he is physical and aggressive. >> i did mostly through college because, you know, once again i can run so man to man i can get up and run with pretty much anybody. >> give him couple of days and we'll see where he's at. we'll take it slow with him. don't want to put him out there where he doesn't know anything. want to make sure he's comfortable and but if he's available, then for sure we'll play him. >> eagles safety malcolm jenkins described the mood of practice is sad. they know it's a business. it doesn't make it easier for

welcome back everyone. finally tonight chinese skull tours built and opened their largest sand sculpture park in the northwestern part of the country. the park featured 70 amazing sand creations hoping to draw tens of thousands of visitors over the next couple of months. it claimed to be the largest single sand sculpture in the
