matt, ending the weekends on brighter note. >> ' definitely are. we did have some sunshine yesterday afternoon. >> little bit. >> but of course the rain showers in the morning, none that far sticks. good news for us. >> little bit less humidity today, as well, it was very muggy, if you got outside yesterday afternoon, you know what i am talking about, you went outside and didn't take any time at all. you just could feel just how muggy it was, and while it is still a little bit on the humid side, to start out our sunday it, won't be anything like what we had yesterday afternoon, throughout the afternoon hours, because cold front did come through, and it is trying to usher in some drier air. right now, outside, in philly, it is 17 degrees, our dew point, 65. so again, that's little bit high, but actually still feels like the actual air temperature. not feeling any different between the air temperature and feels like temperature this morning. across the board from philly to the shore, where it is 73 in the poconos, we're at 60, have the northwest component to the winds, that's what i was talking about on the back side of the cold front, get the northwest flow, bridges in

drier air, to the shore, sit ting in 73, our dew point, 72, so little bit higher there our feels like temperature, the same as the air temperature, but 72 dew point, you'll feel that as you step outside. check out the poconos, dew point down to the 50's, so much drier air off to the north, ooh degrees starting out the day in the poconos, storm scan three nice quiet scene on this sunday morning, maybe few high clouds out there, just south of the city, but that's really about it. now, across the region for today, 87 in philly. we go with high temperature down the shore, 82 degrees, good day for the beach. and very comfortable day in the poconos, too, we top things out at 74, jan, maybe 90s this week, i'll tell when you they show up. >> matt, thank you. >> the fbi and the justice department are opening investigations into the deadly car attack in charlottesville virginia. a man is in custody this morning, after allegedly plowing his car into a group of counter protesters, demonstrating against a white nationalist rally. police say the driver killed one person, and injured 19

others. wendy gillette has the story but we do want to warn you, some of the video is graphic. >> this video shows the moment a car mode down demonstrators, peacefully marching against a white nationalist rally in charlottesville, virginia. >> people let the car -- they thought it was a cop car. >> john ziegler captured the chaos. >> there was no, no doubt, in anybody's mine, it was there or who watches these videos that it was a planned terrorist attack. >> authorities say a 32 year old woman was hit and killed. the driver identified by police as 20 year old james alex fields, jr., of ohio, was taken into custody. >> currently treating this as criminal homicide investigation. >> hours after the crash, police were still here on the scene, investigating. city residents say they wish the rally was never planned, in charlottesville. >> it is peaceful city, we're great place to be. we're tourist destination, this is not right. >> it was far from peaceful for most of the day.

as those gathered protest the city's decision to remove confederate statue from a public park, clashed with counter protesters. >> this has been declared unlawful assembly. >> later declared state of emergency, in the city. >> all of the white supremicist and the nazis who came into charlottesville today, our message is plane and simple. go home. >> president trump calls for peace. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms this aggregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence, on many sides. >> authorities say a state police helicopter assisting public safety efforts crashed in a wooded area outside the city. killing two officers, on board : wendy gillette, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> and as you just heard, two virginia state troopers are also dead after their helicopter went down yesterday forty-eight year old lieutenant hj inch cullen, the pilot, also on board 40 year

old trooper berkebates. the hellment copter crashed into wooded area near charlottesville, the cause of the crash is now under investigation. back here at home, many in the philadelphia region took a stand against the violence in charlottesville. at state and main streets in doylestown, demonstrators held solidarity rally. organizers say this rally was a stand against the violence that unfolded in virginia. >> we are going to send our big voices and our huge, huge love, to the people of charlottesville, virginia, who are then attacked, who have been mimic, and assaulted by white supremacy and hatred today. >> speakers there also say they want everyone to feel welcome in doylestown. meantime, protesters also gathered at philadelphia's city hall. they held a rally there. and a vigil for three people, killed in charlottesville. the protests was organized by the group philly socialist. the group left city hall right

around 8:00 then marched on the vine st. expressway from broad street, no reports of injuries or arrests. >> charlottesville mayor, michael, will discuss the violence, and what led to it in virginia on "face the nation." that aired this morning 10:30, rite here on cbs-3. >> new this morning, massive flames engulf store in strawberry mansion. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh, live there on the scene this morning, with more about what happened overnight. alina -- and eat, a what's the latest? >> good morning, jan, fire officials say one man was taken to temple university hospital. at this time, his condition is unknown. of course, as you can see, the flames are out. but there is heavy damage to this building. the windows have been shattered out. there is a lot of charred debris here on the ground and around the building as well. this is the mini market here, on the corner of dove and dauphin streets in strawberry mcmahon sean. flames broke out the first floor here, firefighters rales dollars here around 1:30 this

morning, they were able to get the flames quickly un control around 1:50. and store owners are out here waiting right now. they did not want to speak with us on camera. but say they do believe this was an accident. one neighbor also describes what she saw. >> real bad. real bad. that's my corner store. when i was coming up from under the bridge, we seen the store on fire. >> we're also seeing several neighbors now waking up this morning, seeing the damage here, very surprised, at this point the fire marshals office says that it is too early to determine a cause, but there are investigators here on the scene working, as you can see, another live look at a lot of the damage here. the building is charred. there is a lot of debris on the ground. again, we're hearing that one man was taken to temple university hospital, somehow, injured in this fire. but, his condition at this point is unknown. we will work for the latest development cents as soon as we have them. for now live in strawberry

mansion, anita oh, cbs-3 " eyewitness news." >> keep us to up date. thank you very much. >> new this morning, man is recovering after falling into a sinkhole in philadelphia's strawberry mansion neighborhood. this happened near west norris and pattern street. man in his 50's fell into that hole which is just about 8 feet deep. firefighters were called to rescue him. he was taken to temple hospital. >> police have recovered the body after man who jumped into a lake during a shoplifting investigation in gloucester county. the prosecutors office says woodbury police were called toll this wawa early saturday morning, when officers tried to speak with a 20 year old man there, he jumped into the woodbury lake, refused orders to get out of the water. as the man swam away, officers lost fight every him. his body recovered few hours later, the cause of death was ruled accidental drowning. >> happening today, people upset over the margate do you know project will voice their concerns, there is demonstration this afternoon on the beach in margate. organizers say they want to

promote solidarity and express issues they have with the project. the rally set for 2:00 this afternoon. you might remember just last week, a federal judge ruled that the project could resume just as long as steps are taken to reduce public health risks. the dunes have been vulnerable to flooding after rain. those flood waters are then prone to bacteria growth. >> well it, looks like we still have a chance to become multi millionaires, no ticket matched all the numbers in last night's powerball drawing in case your ticket matched some of the numbers here they are: twenty, 24, 26, 35, 49 and the powerball number is 19 the jackpot for wednesday's drawing, now $430 million. >> there is still so much more to cover right here on cbs-3 " eyewitness news." guam is on alert, how resident are getting ready for possible missile strike. >> plus downpours flood the heart of delmarva. and the threat of more flooding may not be over just yet. and closer to home, the future

monitoring forum dates, distributing information to get resident ready. >> you know, allows you a lot of time to to do with a we are coming to do. >> north korea threatening to launch four balistic missiles toward the us territory, as early as mid-august. in a phonecall with the governor of guam, president trump sought to reassure residents. >> you are safe. we are working with you. >> president trump working with key international players urging the us and north korea to avoid words, or actions, that do escalate tensions, and saturday, french president, emanuel mccrohn agreed to work with the us anal ice calling on all sides to act responsibly. for guam, threats from north korea are not new. >> i think everyone should be prepared for the worse, you know, expect the unexpected.

>> ever may or may not do it. >> threatening to deploy would have to fly over japan, saturday, japan deployed it missile defense system. set lemon, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> water rescues, heavy main causing flooding in sams barry maryland, powerful storms hit it friday night, into saturday morning, some folks were forced out of their homes there, while others were left stranded. at least two roads caved in, from high water, emergency crews returned to help that community. so far, no injuries, but, the national weather service has issued flood warnings for parts of two counties on maryland's eastern shore, until 9:00 this morning. >> well, matt, couldn't look more different here in the delaware valley morning. >> yes, not kidding. it is for sunshine, it is just a wonderful start to the day weaver little humid day yesterday. wasn't overly hot, but, when you add in the humidity, you felt it, does look like it will be little different today

plenty of sunshine, cloud cover, at time, few light showers slightly lower humidity, it is not going to be a day where you go outside, feels like it is dry, and feels like it is a fall afternoon, so it is still going have little muggy factor to it, not quite as bad as yesterday. our temperatures are remaining warm, so still on the 80s, still seasonable, maybe even little bit above average in a few spots, but overall, i think, this is a pretty nice ends to the weekends, especially, since not looking at any more rain chances for the time being. here is tropical depression 8t looks like for the most part this is not going to be affecting any kind of land specially the continental us. probably will curve out to sea in a couple every days, but then we are going to watch the next chance for some development. this is coming offer the african coastline now, 20% chance this could be could

develop into tropical system ment tropical depression eight still out there in the atlantic, spiraling just at about 14 miles an hour or so. that's where it is moving out of the north to the northwest. 35 miles an hour, and as we tends to look at where the path will take it, it could become tropical storm in the next day or two, and if it does, it will actually become tropical storm girth. slowly working through, again, just had franklin, tropical storm, if it does develop, would be gerth, then we will be moving into the h's i's and j's if we eventually see any more thunderstorm active i that could develop. storm scan3, here, across the delaware valley though, nice and quiet. few clouds are out there, not bad start to the day. if you want to get out and enjoy our sunday morning, i definitely highly suggest do you that. our future weather, 7:00 here, not too much happening. we could see few high clouds from time to time throughout the afternoon, but good amount of sunshine for us, in store, all the way through our sunday we kick off monday morning, our drive to work, going to be

fine weather wise, shouldn't see any kind of issues with rain or clouds or precipitation or anything like that on the first half of the day, on monday, overall, really doesn't look leak monday afternoon will be cloudy, weak boundary, will come through, and it could give us maybe few showers north of the city, than will common tuesday. now, our high temperatures tuesday, you can see, lot of 80s, maybe even close to 09 degrees in a few spots. i actually think our model overdoing our philadelphia temperature on tuesday at this point, oddly end up just shy of 09 degrees, on tuesday, but we could be getting up close to zero nine here in philly on wednesday. lots of warm air, probably watch up the work week, channels for 90s here in philly once again. eighty-seven for our high today. we go with 86 tomorrow. and then there are the warm definitely summer like temperatures, again, stray shower, maybe north of the city on tuesday. better chance for philly

doesn't come until the end of the week. >> let's not rush summer, okay >> i'm in the rushing anything >> i know, were you questioning my desire for the 90's, you know? >> hey, i maybe 80s. >> thanks, matt. 7:18, time to see how traffic is moving along, here is amanda mueller, morning amanda >> last time we talked, 76 bit of mess for drivers, and the issues on the expressway starting to clear up. that's the good news, we had pretty bad accident here, on the schuylkill expressway westbound, at roosevelt boulevard, just seconds ago it , had both lanes blocked, traffic at a stands still. it looks like police and ems crews just got this cleared out. traffic moving again. the good news, it doesn't look like there are any residual issues on either the boulevard or 76. some more good news, further down on those expressways, the road work to the blue route inched change now cleared according to penndot. cleared moments ago as well, one lane blocked. this is a look at the blue route, all roadways here are now cleared for drivers as

they head into the city. islands avenue, running at speeds this morning is as well as if and out of the city. new jersey roadways, and the turnpike. in the cbs-3 traffic center, i'm amanda mueller, back to you. >> thank you. on the health watch now, a warning about a new tick spread to our area. as health reporter stephanie stahl explains, this tick particular can cause a strange problem. >> lover spending time in the woods in his lake house, his team here led to dangerous allergy. to red meat. >> here is the crazy part, his new allergy to meat was caused by this, a lone star tick. >> the only tick bite that i know does create a food allergy. >> doctor george, asthma center in philadelphia, says, there is a protein in the saliva of the tick that's also in red math. a tick bite can cause some people to develop anti bod toys that protein. >> the individuals immune system makes it a response to it. >> symptoms like with most

>> in new hope the kids are exploring, playing, and learning. even the big kids. >> bucks county children's museum not just huge play howls, resource for thousands of children in the area to expand their imagination. >> 10,000 square foot interactive play facility for children, between the ages everyone and seven. we've been open since 2011. with my backgrounds in special education, and loving the opportunity to make learning hands-on fun. this was just a great project. >> the seats were planted roughly 18 years ago, but with the help after community, the museum became reality. >> if we had to count every dollar penny, blood threat anteriores, but thanks to the community who came out in force, with donations of labor , product, time, we were able to open the museum for much less than that. >> parents, kids alike, great they did. >> our three year old feels like he owns the place.

yes, it is really fun, just a nice friendly little museum. >> oh, and our six year old, started school now, but who is in a wheelchair, one of the great things about this museum is that it is all accessible, a lot of stuff to do with the kids, skill level, and abilities. >> and the people of bucks county and beyond have taken notice. >> we first opened we thought we would have maybe 10,000 visitors a year, and maybe 100 families would join, 100 families would join the museum numbers. we wean ended up with 45th visitors a year, and have over a thousand members members of the family museum. easy to see why. kids can do variety of activities. >> i think collar is into cars she really likes the little racetracks. >> and our three year old gram is into the water tables. >> they can also run an ice cream shop. >> that's strawberry, okay, i'll take that, thank you. >> or play doctor. >> oh, my god, i feel better. yes. or learn about the wetter.

today is sunday august 13, good morning, i'm jan carabeo, gray skies have made way for the blue ones. matt peterson live out on the cbs-3 skydeck this morning with eyewitness weather, what a glorious morning, matt. >> my goodness, just wonderful out here this morning, it is sunny, it feels great, our humidity has been dropping all morning long, which is nice. our temperatures are warm, but they're not hot by any stretch so, it is definitely, call it,

goldilocks morning, just right for us here, in philly and across pretty much all of the delaware valley. storm scan3 this morning, seeing quiet one. a few high clouds out there, here and there, but that's really about it. no precipitation for us, unlike what we woke up with yesterday, which was some showers, especially across south jersey again, we are nice and dry, and quiet. , cooler, drier air, dew points in philly, trenton and wilmington, kind of our line of demarcation, where we see 60s to the north, we see those 70s, though, unfortunately still in areas like dover, wildwood, a.c. airport, millville. little more humid still down the shore, but here in philly specially out toward the poconos looking real nice. temperatures for us, 60s, 70s, to start the day out, generally seasonable, little below average the further north you go.

governor declared a state of emergency. >> go home, you are not want in the this great commonwealth >> last night, procession on interstate 64 brought the bodies of virginia state troopers jay cullen back to richmond, assisting officers, monitoring the rally there in virginia. crashed into the woods on the outskirt of charlottesville. the violence in charlottesville will be one of the many topics on "face the nation" this morning, charlottesville, mayor, michael, will be a guest this morning at 10:30 right here on cbs-3. >> score goes up in flames. taken to temple university hospital, somehow, hurt in this blaze, condition unknown at this time. as you can see, the fire out now, but there is still a lot of damage to this storefront here at the corner of 25th and dauphin street, in strawberry mansion. this is the mini market here, again, in strawberry mansion, it went up in flames just before 1:30 this morning spoke to them, they believe this was an accident, and they've been owners here for several years, but there is a lot of charred debris inside. and the windows are shattered out, just a lot of damage, and lot of clean up that will need to be done here this morning. the fire marshall offers says it is still too earl toy determine a calls. but investigators were inside taking photos, investigating, and we just saw them lever the scene, any new developments

will bring you them on the air and on line, cbsphilly.com. >> thank if you, keep us to up date. philadelphia police looking for gunman, women on and motive after shooting in kensington, someone shot man in his 20's, yesterday afternoon on the 600 block of tioga street. now in critical condition. >> and a person is in custody today after a shooting in a target parking lot in northeast philadelphia. investigators say, a person of interest turned themselves in, but police have not announced any charges yet. the shooting happened friday, on the 7400 block of bustleton avenue, and investigators say man was shot after stepping in when he saw his friends in a fistfight, the victim is now in stable condition. >> attending the first philadelphia unity rally in march, at logan square. it was sponsors by the community college of

nice to be back inside, so nice outside this morning, definately, a great sunday for us, great way to wrap up our weekend, with lower humidity, comfortable temperatures, and our eyewitness weather watchers are up early this morning, enjoying what is going to be just a fantastic day. temperatures, really, out there, sitting in the 60s, very few 70s for us, we do have one spot in the 70s, that's peter, out in

williamstown this morning, you got little bit of maybe little bit every haze to start out the day. with again plenty of sunshine for us, doesn't look like we will be dealing too much in the way that far. seventy-two, also cents, up toward peter's house lawrenceville, at 72, but sunshine for i plenty of 60s for us, 69, at ed's house up in chesterfield, maybe few high clouds, here and there. sixty-eight, at john's house, in tabernacle, maybe few extra clouds for him. we travel over to pa, too, 66 degrees this morning, at lou's house, eagleville, also, again, plenty of sunshine to start the day out. and just one more, one more for us here, let's go 67. this is kenneth, he's saying he's got some sunshine there in willingboro. kenneth now i know you had a problem, you said, that we don't always use your post. just want to say we gave you a shout out today. hopefully you can continue to post for us, and have lots every ways to get involved. it will be wonderful day to

get outside and enjoy yourself margate, down at the beach, definately like the day today. our neighborhood network cam shows you wonderful picture on this sunday morning, down at the beach. >> i would suggest getting down this early staying throughout the entire day, because our temperatures will be high 70s, to low 80s, phone it is a little bit muggy from time to time should be pretty nice. surface analysis, little cloud cover to start the day out, for the most part high pressure in control already. it will continue to slide a little bit further to the east , as we go through the day today. and even into monday, as well, and what we are watching here off the coastline, our cold front, that came through just past about midnight or so. last night into this morning. gave us those showers, late, late in the day, on saturday, and overall, right now, not really too much else going on out there. again that high pressure will eventually slide on in. so, here is the first half of the week. there is high pressure. here comes to the east,

unfortunately, does fade out little bit. then weak boundery, going to try to pull through on tuesday could give us few showers, maybe north of the city up into the poconos >> i think we stay dry on wednesday, but our better chance for showers here in the delaware valley, commas we get into the second half of our work week, so in general what we can expect for the next seven days, fairly first half of the week, high pressure in control. >> probably little bit thursday, maybe even into this coming weekends, chances for showers, fuse isolated rumbled of thunder out there, as well, but see some 90s in the forecast, too, been a while since we've seen 90s, our last zero nine was actually august 1st, so, it has been about a half month or so, until since we've seen the 90s

75:12, time for the cbs-3 pet project with carol erickson and special, carol, three special guests, today. >> yes. >> thanks for having us. >> the director of public relations, and she's just phenominal asset here at the s pca. not only do you do so much, but you also bring the pet in every sunday. and who is our little guy today? >> yes, this is jerry. one of my absolute favorites at the shelter, yes, i have the pleasure of being on air today, so i had to get up extra early to make sure i was camera ready. but jerry joins us today, one of our favorites at the

shelter, three years old. >> so he came in through humane law, a lot of animals come in there. so people understands, where are the dogs and cats coming from in the pennsylvania spc a and available for adoption. >> of course our number one i would say the animals we rescue from humane law enforcement like jerry here, and his brother ben is there, as well. we do also pull from other shelters, so high in take shelter ers where they don't have the space all the time, obama casually take dogs from outside of the state when we have the space, again, from high in take shelter this. >> pennsylvania spca no kill shelter. >> correct. >> which means exactly what? >> so it means that we're real any it for the long hall, you know, our dogs, we have 97% live release rate. i like to call it 3r's, rescue , rehabilitate, re home animals. so these dogs come to us, they pay have behavior issues, medical issues, work with them

as much as we possibly can to find them the right homes. unfortunatelyly there are times where animals are either too sick or just not safe to adopt out. in those times unfortunately we will have to make those decisions, but, you know, 97% live release rates, which means 97% who come in get out. >> so people can be assured that when they come in, they see an animal available for adoption that they've been assessed medically and behave half orally, as well? >> right. >> exactly. >> we like to say that of course whether you come in to adopt an animal, the best thing to do to stop by our adoption, before you walk back , get lured in by some brown eyes. >> because you will absolutely fall in love with dogs through the kennel, but sometimes just not the right fit for you. so we want to make sure you stop by because of the behavioral assessment there is dog is good for kids, or this dog can't go home with other dogs or cats, things like. that will so jerry for instance, great dog, lovers him so much, but real energetic. so know the kind of dog to go

home with young children. >> or maybe some frail 87 pounds woman might not want to, you know, to tackle him. >> he can be hard to handle at times, just because of his exuberance, he is a wonderful dog. >> he is wonderful. >> but to find the right home. >> do you rec people then come in if they have pets already at home and meet the animals in the shelter in. >> absolutely. so whenever we adopt a dog out to home with another dog, we make sure that we do a dog, first, and that's for the safety of course of the dogs. but also of the families. make sure they get along. now we don't do that with cats , you would never get a true read in a shelter with a cat and dog are going to do. but we do have of course steps , advice, for when you bring a dog home and introduce it to another cat. >> let's show some of the animals, besides jerry available, this is bear. what i love here, this georgous dog, you guys are getting them used to the home. >> exactly, bear one of our favorites, in our marketing
