>> driver suspected in plowing into protesters in virginia has been identified, the charges he's facing this morning. >> plus, rescue remembers called when a man fuels no a deep sinkhole, back here at home, we tell you where this all unfolded overnight. and, people who live in margate will voice their frustration over that controversial do you know project. the demonstrations taking place down the shore, later today. today is sunday, august 13th, good morning everyone, i'm jan carabeo, a lot to get to today. first we got to talk about this beautiful weather. let's get over to meteorologist, matt peterson with the eyewitness weather forecast, good sunday morning, matt. what a glorious morning. >> it is fantastic out there, now, the skydeck, i don't minds going out there some days, but some days obviously better than others.

this is fantastic, fantastic out there. we've had lower humidity all morning long, that's wonderful , on the back side of the cold front, northwest breeze actually helping us, at times, here this morning, as well, and temperatures, feeling very, very comfortable now, this picture from atop " eyewitness news," we're looking just south from 15th street, this picture, and it is, again, a wonderful wonderful scene to start out the day, few clouds are out there. but, plenty of sunshine for us here to start out sunday, and it will remain that way throughout the afternoon, it will be a day where we see, again, more than enough sunshine, temperatures that are more than comfortable, and humidity that stays just low enough, that it is into the comfortable range. temperatures for us here to start out the day, 70s, from philly, trenton, wilmington, back down into south jersey and central delaware, as well, seeing 71 in dover, 72, millville. warm in spots. wildwood. 74 degrees, and then as you head little further north, 67 in allentown, 62 this morning,

in mount pocono. here are those winds, again, out of the north and west. indicate that we're again on the back side of the colds front. five, 10 miles an hour, not going to be overly breezy day, but again, when you have a five, 10-mile per hour breeze, it is out of the north to the northwest like this, you're going to notice it, it will feel very, very comfortable, it will keep that humidity down, and it will keep our temperatures on the comfortable side, as well. we will be rising, from the low 70s, to about 80 degrees by about lunchtime or so. sunshine gets all the way to 87 degrees for high temperature today. so pretty seasonable for our sunday afternoon. but, there is a chance for some 90's later this week, and we're also tracking our next chance for few rain showers, jan, all coming up in your seven day forecast in just a bit. >> we will get back to you, thank you, matt. we're following developing story out of virginia this morning. one person is dead. more than dozen others are hurt after an attack in charlottesville. police say man rammed his car into a crowd demonstrating

against a white nationalist group. here's wendy gillette. >> this individual vaux shows a car mode down demonstrators against white nationalist valley in charlottesville, virginia. >> thought it was cop cars. >> john ziegler captured the chaos. >> there was no, no doubt in anybody's mind that watching the videos that it was a planned terrorist attack. >> thirty-two year old woman was hit and killed. the driver identified by police as 20 year old james alex field's junior of ohio was taken into custody. >> we're currently treating this as a criminal homicide investigation. >> hours after the crash, police were still here on the scene, investigating. city residents say they wish the rally was never planned, in charlottesville. >> it is a peaceful city, great place to be, tourist destination, this is not right. >> it was far from peaceful for most of the day. and those gathered to protest the city's decision to remove

a confederate statue from public park, clashed, with counter protesters. >> has been declared an unlawful assembly. >> virginia governor later declared state of emergency in the city. >> for all of the white supremicist and the nazis who came into charlottesville today, our message is plane and simple. go home. >> president trump calls for peace. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms this aggregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence, on many sides. >> authorities say a state police helicopter assisting public safety efforts, crashed in a wooded area outside the city. killing two officers, on board wendy gillette, cbs-3, " eyewitness news." >> now, back to that driver for a bit, police arrested the suspected driver, he's charged with second degree murder, malicious wounding, failure to stop at a scene after accident , that resulted in a death. the fbi and the department of justice have also launched a

civil right investigation into the accident. now for the state police troop heres were killed, they've been identified, one identified as a 48 year old lieutenant hj cullins, he was pilot, the other identified as 40 year old trooper, burke bathes, also killed. now, the helicopter crashed in a wooded area near charlottesville, the cause of the crash, is still under investigation. >> this morning, airs this morning, 10:30, right here on cbs-3. >> back here at home now, folks in bucks county, show their support for the victim of the charlottesville attack, group gathered at state and main street in doylestown last night. "eyewitness news," at the rise up doylestown rally. organizer say they wanted to stand up against the violence, speakers stressed they need to spread love, not hate. >> we are going to send big voices and huge, huge love to

the people of charlottesville, virginia, who have been attack , who have been mimicked and assaulted by white supremacy and hatred today. >> organizers there also say they want doylestown to be known as welcoming community. now to another vigil, city hall, if response to deadly attack in charlottesville. the group philly socialist organized the event. folks there honored the three people who were killed yesterday. speakers encouraged the crowd to stand up against violence and hatred, the group left city hall around 8:00 last night, marched down the vine street expressway from broad street, police say, this demonstration is peaceful. >> new this morning, firefighters trash fire in strawberry main sean, anita oh , live with more on this overnight fire, live, from the scene. good morning, anita. >> good morning, jan, fire officials say that one man was taken to temple university hospital, although, his condition right now, is unknown. the flames are out now, as you can see, but there is still

plenty of damage and debris here at the mini mark here on the corner of 25th and dauphin street in strawberry mansion. fire officials say that this fire broke out just around 1:30 this morning, and crews were able to get the flames under control. around 1:50. store owners are on the scene but did not want to speak on camera. they do tell me however they believe that this was accidental. fire marshall offers on scene, investigating, inside sifting -- sifting through lot of damage, charred debris to work through and clean up this morning. but, fire officials say that it is still too early to determine any kind of cause, and of course, we will bring you any developments just as soon as we have them on air and on line, at cbsphilly.com. for now live in strawberry mansion, anita oh, cbs-3 " eyewitness news." all right, anita, thank you very much. new this morning, man is recovering after falling into a sinkhole last night. this all happened near west

norris streets, pattern streets, in philadelphia's strawberry mansion section, as well. a man in his 50's fell into the hole there, at least 8 feet deep. firefighters were called it rescue him. he was taken to temple hospital. no word on his condition this morning. >> police recovered a bod fry woodbury lake, investigators say the man who ran from them during shoplifting investigation. police were called to the area for a shoplifter at nearby wawa, officers tried to talk to that 20 year old man but ran away, then jumped into woodbury lake. police lost site of him as he swam away. his body was recovered later that morning, the cause of death has been ruled accidental drowning. happening today: people upset over margate's controversial do you know project, plan to voice their concerns, demonstration is taking place this afternoon on beach there. organizers say, they want to promote solidarity, take the opportunity to express their thoughts. the rally is set for 2:00 this afternoon. just last week, you may remember, federal judge ruled that the project can continue,

but that steps have to be taken to row deuce public health risk. the dunes have been vulnerable to flooding after rain, those flood watt remembers then prone to bacteria growth. this year's jazz on the avenue music festival is a rap it returned to philadelphia yesterday forints 11th year. it all took place along cecil b. moore avenue between broad and 17th street. there was live music on two stages there. and there was also clay sculpting, rock climbing, local craft and food vend remembers also there. organizers say the festival set brace our area's rich jazz history. looks like you industrial a chance to become a multi-millionaire. no ticketed maimed all of the numbers, but in case your ticket maimed some of the numbers, here they are: twenty, 24, 26, 35, 49 and the powerball number 19. the jackpot for wednesday's draw is now $430 million. my goodness.

with the us anal ice, calling on all sides to act responsibly. for guam, threats from north korea are not new. >> i think everyone should be expect the unexpected, it may or may not do it, never know. >> the rocket's north korea threatening to deploy would have to fly over japan. saturday, japan deployed its missile defense system. set lemon, for cbs-3, " eyewitness news." well, a flood warning in effect for much of saulsbury, maryland this morning, after powerful storms caused massive flooding there. we're told at least four to 8 inches every rain fell between friday night, early saturday morning, at least two roads caved in from the high waters leaving some people with no way out. emergency crews rush to help that community. authorities are warning people to stay safe, and to stay off the roads, there so far, fortunately, no injuries have been reported. incredible video out from the eastern shore of maryland. >> yes. >> we're not dealing with that >> no, we had some showers

down the shore early yesterday , then the thunderstorm, as well, but not anything like that. we did have that severe thunderstorm watch yesterday, in the evening, the good news for us, though, we never saw any severe thunderstorms, today after the cold front came through, great on this sunday morning, the sun shining, our temperatures comfortable, our humidity is down to start the day as well. and overall, it really is just going to be a great sunday, not just morning, but afternoon, as well. temperatures are going to be seasonable throughout the daytime hours. up to high temperature of 87 today. average hi, 86. so again, pretty much right where we should be. as we get into september, october, though, temperatures will be getting little cooler. by september 13th, look for average highs in the high seven's, so almost 10 degrees cooler, than what we have right now. and by the time we get to october, we're down even into the 60s, so well into that fall feel in the next couple every months, so, enjoy summer while we have it. and just so you know, we have maybe another touch of some 90 's coming at times this week

so definitely, not done with summer just yet. we do have plenty of sunshine in store for us today. that humidity is already a little bit lower this morning. it remain that way through the afternoon, going to be warm, get to 87, so overall, i would call it pretty nice ends to our weekends. not bad day to go down and watch the phils. hopefully they'll split the series with the mets first pitch 1:35. sunshine, first pitch, warm, not overly humid, 80 degrees, looking pretty good down there at citizens bank park. if you are down at the shore, also going to be very nice, our neighborhood network, showing you margate this morning. sands looks nice and inviting. it looks like it will be in the 70s to low 80s out there on the beach later this afternoon. storm scan3, few high clouds. just south of the city for the most part right now. we could maybe see few high whispy even across the delaware valley, few areas, to the north, too, but in general , it is going to be just sun filled afternoon. and as we get a look to the next couple of hours or so,

8:00 this morning, again, not whole lot going on, and even through the afternoon today, as i said, plenty of sunshine for us, now we start out monday, looking pretty good. maybe few clouds, it lab dry, drive to work monday morning, so no weather to be worried about. as you start your monday morning commute. could get little bit more cloudy as we head later toward the late afternoon and evening hours, on our monday, it will be dry for monday afternoon which is pretty good. but all of this cloud cover is indicative of weak front comes through on tuesday, and then a more powerful system comes through towards the ends of the week. so 87 degrees, our high temperature today, lot of sunshine, get little cloudy towards the ends of the day monday, we get to high of 86. little more humid tomorrow, too. a shower is possible up into the poconos for tuesday. sun and clouds for us here in philly. we get all the way up to 88 degrees, and there is our chance for 90s, comes on wednesday, still summertime for sure. and then few maybe isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible on thursday. we drop it down to 89. then jan, another chance for some 90s to wrap the week up

>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. good morning, everyone, i'm jan carabeo, yesterday's clouds make way for the sun. today, is the pick of the weekends. meteorologist, matt peterson, liver out on the cbs-3 skydeck this morning with eyewitness weather. matt, i don't know if we will be able to real you back in today. >> i said that couple of time. sometimes easy to come back inside off the skydeck, if it is a little dreary, but this morning just wonderful out here. if you haven't gone outside just yet, you really want to get out there immediately. feels fantastic. now, i will say you could maybe open the windows little bit. i don't know if it is quite cool enough for that just yet. but, overall, it is still going to be fantastic afternoon, that cold front, came through, late last night, into the early morning hours, and today, it cleared us out. that's going to allow for plenty of sunshine on our

sunday afternoon, low humidity , but still going to remain on the warmer side of things right around the seasonable range, than mid to high zero eight range. then it does stay nice all the way into monday. because we do have high pressure that is in control. storm scan3, for the time being, really not too much to talk about. yesterday, we had showers, few thunderstorms that were across south jersey, back down into delaware, overall right now, it is a dry, a quiet start to our sunday, and it will remain that way, as we go throughout the afternoon. this is what we are looking at right now, here in philadelphia, 72 degrees. our dew point is 65. so, it is not overly dry, but definately comfortable enough for us, that our feels like temperature on our air temperature the same. down at the shore, 73, slightly more humid, dew point of 70. but again feels like temperature, air temperature, still looking to be equal. up in the poconos cooler spot as you might expect 62 in the poconos, dew point all the way down into the 50's, so feeling great. the further north away from the city that you get.

protesters. numb beer every people injured during the unite the right demonstration, not just from the fighting. several pedestrians struck by a car that slammed into a crowd of people. thousands made their way, confederate general, robert e lee, organizers says the statue itself symbolic i can of much larger issues. >> primary three issues are preserving history against this censorship and revision, this political correctness, second issue social security allowed to advocate for your interests, as a white person, just like other groups are allowed to advocate for their interests politically, and then finally this is about free speech. >> in february the city council vote today remove the statue. but it is on hold pending litigation. the move follows efforts by communities across the south to remove con confederate from

public property. many of those effort were met with demonstrations. rally drew a number of counter protesting groups. the rally came one day after a large group of torch bearing white nationalists marched through the university of virginia campus, sparking national outrage. ashley, "eyewitness news." and the violence in charlottesville will be one of the many topics on "face the nation" this morning. charlottesville mayor michael, will be one of the guests there, that starts at 10:30, right here on cbs-3. >> new this morning, flames break out inside after store in strawberry mansion. damage to the storefront here at the corner every 25th and dauphin street in strawberry mansion. this is the mini market, and fire officials say that flames broke out here on the first floor, there was heavy smoke on the second floor just shattered out windows, plenty of debris here, firefighters able to get the flames un control quickly around 1:15 this morning. also the store owners are here on the scene, they're very distraut it, not want to speak to us on camera, but say that they believe that this was accidental. fear marshall's office also on scene investigating taking pictures and of course this will take a lot of clean up, today, to get this back in order. and a neighbor describes what she saw reid bad, that's my corner store, when we came up on the bridge that's whether we saw the store fire. >> and a lot of the neighbors here on this block say this

northwest kensington. this shooting happened yesterday afternoon, in the 600 block every tioga street. police say a man possibly in his late 20's was shot five times in the hand and once in the throat. he was taken to temple university hospital in critical condition. police have not made any arrests. >> a call for unity. people marched for united philadelphia yesterday, in center city. this was the first philadelphia unity rally in march, it took place at logan square. the community college of philadelphia's international students sponsored this event. organizers say they want to show what's possible when everyone in the city works together. >> i want people to know this is the community of brotherly love, commodore barry together , work in true unity, true unity is love f we can work together in love it would bring so much better the situations for our community. >> the rallies organizers also held another slept yesterday. the non-profit parker seven

on a leash the other day, actually, so maybe if you walk your cat, could you do that this afternoon, too. eyewitness weather watchers talking about 70 degrees temperatures to start out. this sunday, let's take a look at our temperature list here this morning. levittown, williamstown, saying it is 72, chesterfield, ed saying it is 70 degrees, an in his backyards, phil says 74 , in the philadelphia area. if you're in mt. laurel, 71. and down toward perkasie, 72 degrees. so, you can really see our temperatures, they started out a little bit on the cooler side, at times, especially north of the city we had some 60s, but 70s already really started to take over. and, we've got some good pictures this morning, from our eyewitness weather watchers. still, phil out there taking great pictures, got one of the moon, just as he'll begin to set here on this sunday morning. and peter down in jersey, he's got some picture tours every those great whispy serous clouds that we had going on already here this morning, and that's all we will see when it

comes to cloud cover, precipitation, for our sunday, it will be a nice quiet day, storm scan3, shows you, again, a few high clouds out there. but, overall, a very quiet, very dry and very comfortable morning, but there is a little bit of precipitation, it is now moved off the coast. which these storm scan3, between dewey beach, fenwick avenue, light shower in there, as well. now, we did have some more close to moderate rainfall, just about maybe 15, 20 minutes ago. down here in south delaware, but again, that has now moved off the coastline. just light shower out there right now. temperatures for the most part , sitting in the 70s, specially from trenton, philadelphia, wilmington. back down through the south, still looking at some 60s through lots lehigh valley to the poconos, 67 allentown, 62 mount pocono. seventy-four in the millville area. and it is also 74 this morning down in wildwood. our dew points, they've been

staying in the 60s from philly and northward. actually dropped down to 59 mount pocono. so, very dry air across the northern sections of the area. still, little muggy though back down toward the beach, into central delaware, still see the dew point in the 70s, but they will dip, just little bit more, as we go through the afternoon. these are forecasted highs for today. becoming 87 degrees here in philly. keeping those eight's in the forecast back down toward millville, 84, 82, in wildwood , stay in the 70s in the poconos, mid 70s. future weather for today. not really too much to talk b again few high clouds, plenty of sunshine for sunday, start out monday, looking pretty good. but by the afternoon, some clouds cover, could move on in and maybe stray shower possible, north of the city. on tuesday. 87 degrees as i said for the high today. looking at 86, for our work week start there monday. eighty-eight by tuesday. again, north of the city stray shower possibility. then jan, i know you weren't done with the 90s just yet, doesn't look like mother

nature was done with them either. ninety-one on friday. >> over to amanda mueller at the cbs-3 traffic center. high, amanda. >> jan, keeping an eye on the boulevard right now, there is an accident on the southbound side, between grant avenue and welsh rd. as you can see, that's causing some major tie ups throughout the area. the left lane is blocked, traffic squeezing by on the right, as krause are on the scene. if you need to travel in this direction, make sure to pack some extra time into your schedule. turning to 95 southbound, we have disable vehicle, by the walt whitman bridge near front street. this is traffic tied up a bit, little bit earlier. but it seems like cars are now starting to get by. so you may want to slow down when approaching the area. and taking a extended look at mass transit right now, if you are planning on traveling, out of the area this morning, maybe meeting a friend at the airport, just be aware, that septa is using busses to transport passengers to 30th street station through the airport this morning, all of the airport train lines undergoing track work, it is important to note shuttle bus
