verdict is in. the jury in the taylor swift trial announces its decision. what it means for the superstar singer. >> and a strange odor leads police to a philadelphia home. see what they discovered when they went inside. >> but first, neighbors on edge. they say they are terrified after an 84-year-old woman is tied up and robbed inside her home. the attack happened in the middle of the afternoon. good evening, i'm ukee washington. >> and i'm nicole brewer. right now police continue searching for that robber. right now david spunt is in the neighborhood. >> reporter: i'm told the 84-year-old victim is with her family tonight she's said to be doing a lot better but this is a terrible story when you hear the details. authorities say neighbors were taken totally aback by this and what concerns neighbors the most is the fact that this happened in broad daylight. just two hours before this 84-year-old woman appeared on

our camera, she was tied up in her basement, the victim of a home invasion according to authorities. detectives say a man hut miss hand on the woman's mouth and led her downstairs. >> he had her tied up in the basement and she untied herself and went up and yelled "fire." the woman is a genius. she's one of my best friends. i've always admired her. >> authorities say a male suspect made his way inside the home just before 2:00 in the afternoon. authorities say he used belts to restrain the victim before stealing money. the news has neighbors surprised and on edge. >> we've got two young kids, and you know, we moved here because it's safer, the schools. you wouldn't expect it to happen. >> i can't imagine. i think it's horrible. >> reporter: authorities won't say how the man got inside the home. the suspect is described as a thin white male about 6 feet tall wearing black pants.

he quickly fled the scene. >> anything could have happened to her and we worry about her all the time with people knocking on her door. >> reporter: since this happened in the middle of the day, authorities are hoping that somebody saw the suspect in this case running away from that scene. if you have any information, you can give police a call. remember you can remain anonymous. they just want the information to put this man behind bars. reporting live tonight in queen village, david spunt, cbs3 eyewitness news. >> david, thank you. new tonight five people suffer minor injuries after being struck by a car in clem new jersey. around 9:00 tonight. the driver stayed on the scene. the victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. all are expected to be okay. >> there are new developments tonight surrounding the race-filled clashes in charlottesville, virginia. alex field was arraigned in the

death of heather heyer. police say he accelerated his car into a crowd of counter protesters. meantime president trump who was criticized for failing to condemn white supremacist groups on saturday had a different tone today. >> racism is evil and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the kkk, neonazis, white supremacists and other hate groups. >> one of the victims of saturday's crash was discharged today. nine remain hospitalized. all are in good condition. people across the country continue to hold vigils for the victims of the charlottesville violence. alexandria hoff is in new town bucks county tonight where residents are rallying for peace. >> reporter: on a crowded street corner in bucks county at least 100 voices sing together.

it's just sad. >> reporter: another solidarity vigil will be taking place tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the garden of reflection here in newtown. reporting in bucks county, alexandria hoff. >> two more ceos have quit a white house advisory council. late today both under armour and intel ceo announced their decisions to resign. earlier in the day the ceo of merck announced he was leaving the group. he announced a statement saying america's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy. he is one of the few african-americans to lead a fortune 500 country. president trump fired back saying he will have time to lower rip-off drug prices.

>> a man caught on video disgracing a synagogue. take a look at this video in northeast. early sunday morning that man approached the synagogue doors, made an obscene hand gesture and urinated on the synagogue. >> his intention was to go there. he chose the synagogue. >> the man fled the scene in a white 4-door sedan. if you have information, contact police. >> police say they have found more than 100 marijuana plants growing inside of a west philadelphia home. officers removed trash bags full of marijuana tonight from a home on the 4800 block of cedar avenue. the home is currently under construction. fire officials discovered the plants around 3:00 this afternoon after complaints of neighbors from a strong odor. >> police have a double murder investigation on their hands after a couple is found dead in their south philly apartment. these are the victims.

they were found dead in separate rooms in their apartment at 13 gd and federal. police say gonzalez's mother found the two shortly before midnight. both of the victims had bruises to their faces and were laying in a pool of blood. the apartment was ransacked but investigators say there was no sign of forced entry. police have charged terell wright following a shooting in the parking lot of a northeast philadelphia target store. investigators say wright turned himself in just hours after the incident on friday. the target was placed on lockdown after police say wright shot and injured one man. terrified customers hid after hearing that gunfire. the victim is now in stable condition. wright faces several charges including attempted murder. >> north korean state media says kim jong un has been briefed on plans to launch missiles marine

corps general says the u.s. seeks peace but he added the military is ready to act if provoked. he is visiting officials in south korea, japan and china this week. >> they should work well but residents are upset about the way utility poles look. they are part of an 18-mile project the polls are supposed to with stand 120 mile per hour winds. several homes in east greenwich township and residents don't seem pleased. >> i didn't realize it was going to be this big. they just a cord off and said they're going to put poles in. i come home from work and this is what i come home to and i'm like okay. >> much of this region lost power for more than a week two

get a live look at center city philadelphia. temperatures in the mid 70s, winds out of the south and you may have noticed a difference in the humidity factor today it felt sticky and that's going to be the trend. we've cooled off to 60s in the lehigh valley, still at 70 in berks county, 72 in millville and low 70s down the shore. tonight dropping back to 70s, cloudy conditions and area of rain. scattered rain and humid with high temperature 84 degrees. most of this rain will fall in the early part of the day. storm scan 3 showing us a batch of rainfall spreading across the area. northeasterly motion, is light in intensity but might be seeing a few drip drops on the west side of the city right now into some of our western suburbs we don't need any more rain in these areas. our departure from normal

rainfall so far this august we're up above average three inches in allentown, over an inch in reading, and 1.25 in philadelphia but we may add a little bit to these totals throughout the overnight period and as we head into late tonight early tomorrow morning could see a batch of rainfall, a little bit heavier in intensity moving through parts of the area, particularly south jersey as we head into lunchtime still some scattered showers around be aware of that on your lunch hour and as we head into the second half of the day we'll see most of the activity concentrated along the coast but should be rather dry for your commute as we head in and around the city tomorrow afternoon as we head into the evening hours we'll see gradual clearing across the area setting us up for a nice sunny wednesday, albeit a hot wednesday. we do have our second hurricane of the season. hurricane gert. it is forecast to strengthen to

a category 2 hurricane. great news is, this forecast cone keeps gert well offshore. but we're still going to see some indirect impacts along the coast, especially tomorrow when gert makes that mass age on by and the main effect will be the dangerous rip currents be sure to swim in front of a lifeguard. choppy surf, rough seas and it's going to be cool. all of this disturbance will cause some upwelling that will cool down our sea surface temperatures. air temperatures are going to be warming up on to 90 degrees on wednesday under a sunny sky as we head into thursday, mostly thursday, slightly lower humidity values, slightly lower temperatures will make for a more comfortable day and that steam factor as we head into friday, that looks like our best chance to see some showers and thunderstorms. still could see some storms on saturday. at this point we have clear

the white out has been trying to kick off a shoulder energy. out on the field he's competing against the newly acquired ran old darby. >> he's great brakes on the ball. he's a great player. >> he's going to be useful. i've played against him a few times. i know what he's capable of. his quickness and his speed i think he's going to do a great job for us and he's already making the plays out there. >> from the air attacks to the ground game, the eagles struggled running the ball at green bay. 19 carries for 47 yards. today offensive coordinator assessed the situation. >> it's hard to totally evaluate until it's live all the time. you saw on the couple live practices we have had out here, our running game looks better on days it's been live on training camp because we've got to bring it back to the ground.
