after allegedly trying to blow up an oklahoma city bank. good morning from the studio 57 news room here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne marie green. president trump condemned racists during a white supre supremists rally. some gathered outside the hotel where the president is staying and heather is with us this morning. >> reporter: if the first time since the inauguration president trump came back to his hometown and he was greeted with protesters many aligned here on fifth avenue holding signs chanting new york hates you. the president arrived at his new york city home last night

outside of trump tower. it was one of several demonstrations around the country denouncing this weekend's rally in charlottesville, virginia during which white supremacists clashed with counterprotesters leaving one person dead. >> i cannot stand for nazis in my country. i want anyone who lives here to feel safe. >> reporter: the man who allegedly rammed his car into a crowd of activists in charlottesville is according to friends someone who admires hitler. he appeared in court monday officially charged with injuring 19 and in the death of the 32-year-old heather heyer. >> i'm extremely proud of my daughter. >> reporter: after two days of criticism for not immediately condemning specifically white supremacy groups did so on monday. >> racism is evil and those who cause violence in its name are

criminals and thugs including the kkk, neo nazis. >> reporter: three resigned in a single day in response to the president's delay. the ceo of merck, underarmour and ryan tweeted in part there should be no hesitation in condemning hate speech or white supremacy by name. >> reporter: and there might be another shakeup within the inner circle. sources have said his chief strategist steve bannon may be out of a job. >> thank you so much. well, following the violence in charlottesville, protesters in durham, north carolina, toppled a confederate statue. the statue of a confederate soldier had stood for nearly a

century outside a courthouse building. activists used a ladder and a rope to pull down the monuments. dozens cheered and some kicked the statue after it fell to the ground. in baltimore, a monument was vandized over the weekend. someone poured the red point over the statue which depicts a dying con federal soldier. on sunday, protesters denounced the violence and racism in virginia. yesterday the mayor said she plans to remove all of baltimore's con federal era monuments. the holocaust memorial in boston was vandized for the second time this summer. a 17-year-old boy smashed a glass panel on the memorial last night. he will be charged with malicious destruction of property. the civil rights unit is also investigating. an oklahoma man is in federal custody this morning accused of trying to carry outen

attack on american soil. he allegedly tried to detonate what he thought was a van packed with explosives outside an oklahoma city bank. >> reporter: a confidential informant alerted the fbi to his plan to blow up an oklahoma city bank describing him as someone upset with the government and seeking retaliation. in the criminal complaint, he wanted to pull off an attack similar to the oklahoma city bombing, adding, i'm out for blood. when militias start getting formed i'm going after government officials. the informant introduced him to undercover fbi agent. >> he began applying components for what he believed would make an improvised explosive device. >> he thought was a working bomb and tried to detonate it with a

cell phone. >> he parked the van in the alley of bank first and fled to a safe location in order to remotely detonate the bomb. >> reporter: he followed the three percenters. former fbi assistant director. >> we have violent people who are on the fringe who are angry, who feel a call to action, who feel like their response is the answer. and too often that response is to kill a lot of innocents. >> reporter: he was in federal court in oklahoma city which incide incidentally is right across from the okc memorial. kim jong-un has reportedly delayed a decision on firing missiles toward guam. kim's isolated regime reportedly is waiting to see what the u.s. will do next. meanwhile south korea says it

would seek to prevent war by all means but the u.s. and seoul are preparing for joint military drills next week. and a french prosecutor says it's highly probable the man who drove a car into a pizza place was under the influence of drugs. authorities are now conducting a homicide investigation. the incident left 14 people hospitalized including a 3-year-old boy who sustained life threatening injuries. an artillery mishaps caused the death of two u.s. service members in iraq sunday. the victims are identified from arlington, texas, and one from brooklyn, new york. they were both members of the air born division. five others were injured in the incident. a former denver radio host has lost his civil case, but he

says going to court was his only option. yesterday, a jury determined determined that mueller did grope swift before a concert in 2013. mueller had sued swift saying the allegations cost him his career and his reputation. swift countersued and sought a symbolic one dollar in damages. she released a statement thanking her attorneys for supporting her. tiger woods reportedly had five different drugs in his system when he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in may. that's according to espn citing a copy of the toxicology report. last week woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving. coming up on the morning news, a possible pardon. a former arizona sheriff who went to extremes to crack down on illegal immigration may soon

our top story this morning an oklahoma man is in federal custody accused of trying to carry out a bombing attack on american soil. 23-year-old jerry drake varnell allegedly tried to detonate what he thought was a van packed with explosives outside an oklahoma city bank. he told undercover agents he wanted to start a revolution and was a formerly a member of an anti government group. and president trump is at his home in new york city for the first time since being sworn into office. yesterday protesters outside trump tower expressed anger at his response to the car attack at a white supremist rally in virginia that left one person dead.

the president took a lot of heat for failing to call out white supremists after the attack. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms -- >> reporter: the leader of the free world was behind his daughter, attorney general and vice president in denouncing white supremacists and neo nazis by name. on saturday the president implied counterprotesters and armed shield wielding white supremacists were equally to blame. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides. >> reporter: that initial equivocation echoed ways in which mr. trump has played to racially motivated segments of american politics. starting with his five year advocacy of the birther movement
