>> more terror in spain this morning. police exchange gunfire with five terrorists, hours after another man used a van to mow down people in the streets. it has been hours and hours of carnage overseas. >> back here at home, writing on rizzo, former philadelphia has been gone for more than 25 years, but today at the center of controversy in this town. late last night someone spray painted the statue of frank rizzo, the third time this week it has been vandalized. we're live with how one resident responded. >> i'm pat gallen. two new birds debuted at the linc last night. they're both expected to be big-time players here. i've got a lock at the

valley, parts of carbon, monroe county. needing a bumm a walking out the doorway. elsewhere, steamy at the onset right now. good portion of the area, dry, that's relative term, though, because it is so, so moisture- laden, this air mass, so humidity ramp up certainly, as is the potential to see heavy downpours, the first rounds likely don't start with the flashflooding but later as the day goes on, more storms come in, this will start at 2:00 p.m., flashflood watch goes into effect, with any additional round of rain coming through, that flashflood watch or that flashflood potential does increase, because you could see some heavy storms over the same areas, that's going to exacerbate any potential for flashflooding. >> this morning everything scattered, we will actually see some sun return into the afternoon. but specially this evening, when the cold front gets in here. some of the strongest storms will rumbles in here, heavy rain, gusty winds, the main issue, but there are couple of other concerns with that, we will talk about that later in the show, meisha. >> no fun on a friday. all right, katie, well thank you so much for that. so luckily we do have some

nice dry roadways, enjoy them while we've got them. looking outside right now, construction going on, 95 north at the betsy ross bridge , blocking the far left shoulder and lane. just heads up on this, but you can see, over all, not really dealing with any volume yet. little bit. starting to see headlights get out there, but really, we don't know what it is like on a friday. so we can actually hit a stride in the 5:00 hour. then evens out little bit. so overall so far good looking friday. construction clear, 59 north between route 413 and business route one. the vine was open. it was open yesterday, overnight construction was not there. same story last night. so good news, westbound and eastbound looking great and volume levels looking nice and lowment quick peak at the ben franklin bridge, looking just as it should on this early friday morning. jim, back over to you. >> thank you shall meisha. well, spain is reeling from another terror attack, just hours after a van plowed through a crowd in barcelona, killing more than dozen people >> the latest happened in a seaside resort town just south of barcelona. authorities say they shot and

killed five men, wearing fake suicide belts. before being gunned down, local media reports, the men hit several civilians with a car, this incident is linked to the van attack earlier in the day in barcelona. where 13 people died at least 100 other were injured. >> of course, so much more to come from this. stay with "eyewitness news" and cbsphilly.com for the latest on the barcelona terror attack. our jan carabeo will be live at 5:30 from philadelphia international airport, where the terror attacks are on the minds of travelers. >> well, it stands larger than life, and this morning, the frank rizzo statue in philadelphia stands as one of the most devisive symbols in the city. >> overnight vandals targeted the statue again, "eyewitness news" reporter trang do, back live in center city this morning. trang, good morning. >> well, good morning, rahel, jim. the sit had i just power washed the statue yesterday, after it had been egged twice, but take a look at the situation here, now, it is now surrounded by a large perimeter of police tape. after this latest act of vandalism graffiti spray painted on the statue.

now, there are also a number of patrol cars stationed here, overnight, a woman came here and covered up that graffiti, with a blanket, after hearing the news that the statue had been de-faced. but take a look at the video of the damage. sometime late thursday night, someone walk up to the statue, former mayor, and police commissioner frank rizzo, and spray painted the phrase black power on it. it was the third day in a row that the statue was vandalized , following a call for its removal by councilwoman helen gym and others who say police brutality against african-americans was rampid during rizzo's tenure. now a woman who identified herself as debbie came out overnight, and covered the statue with a blanket. >> wanted to come down to make sure that nobody gets the wrong message, that all philadelphians aren't like this. who ever put the message that they put on frank tonight. so, you know, we are loving people in this city. >> overnight yesterday, there was a heavy police presence here, about two dozen officers

as well asset of barricades, but those were taken down last night. it is unclear why those officers and those barricades were removed. but, debbie here said she is going to stay here outside of city hall until mayor kenney shows up, to discuss this issue with him. so far, no one has been arrested for this latest act of vandalism. but for now live in center city, i'm trang do, cbs-3, " eyewitness news," jim, rahel, back to you. >> trang, thank you. new this morning, fire fight remembers trying to figure out what sparked hospital fire in montgomery county. they say the fire broke out in the basement of and inning ton lansdale hospital. the call came in just after 2:00 a.m. we are told the fire was contained to the basement. it was quickly placed under control. there were no evacuations, and in one was injured. >> also new overnight, police are investigating after an s.u.v. slams into a house in south philadelphia. this is 13th and christian streets. as we can see here, there is some pretty significant damage to the house and a window there. we're told one person was taken to the hospital. there is no word yet on the victim's condition. turning now to south

jersey, police are investigating an incident whether a driver, either fell, or jumped out of her moving car. chopper three was over route 42, north in depford, police say the car was going around six off miles per hour at the time. she was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. well, it may not be football weather but the eagles are back in uniform and filling the stands in south fill. >> i our pat gallen here to show us the birds improvement over pre-season game one, and also how one local player is making an impact. pat? >> hey, guys, thank you. last night the eagles won their first pre-season home game, one side of the ball was the real winner. our don bell and helpsly van arsdale on hand at the linc for the birds and the bills. >> the eagles first regular season game is on september 10th at washington, but before we can get there, they have a lot of work to do. last night, taking on the buffalo bills, in pre-season game two, lets guess ahead, roll the highlight, showing you where it went down in this game. how about this? eagles defense, looking pretty good.

for lesley van arsdall, i'm don bell for cbs-3 eyewitness sports. >> the birds are also working on their chemistry and one show of solidarity on the side lines did in the go unnoticed. this is eagles defensive ends, chris long, with his arm around teammate malcolm jenkins during the national anthem. long grew up in charlottesville, and attended the university of virginia. jenkins had his right fist raised in the air like last season, he has been outspoken against racial inch justice, has work with law enforcement, try and improve relations with the community. >> also, during the national anthem, eagles cornerback, ron brooks, took a knee, he was not in uniform because of a hamstring injury. brooks played with the bills from 2012 through 2015. last year colin kaepernick then with the san francisco 49ers, kneeling during the anthem in an effort to raise awareness about social and racial issues in the united state. and guys, one last sport note. the phillies lost to the giants last night five.

across the canadian border, even here locally see just left of the ends in new york, that's where we've got some heavy thunderstorms in our area specific to parts of the lehigh valley and the poconos. so you may be hearing thunder rumbling even as we speak in that area. rest every us doo dry for now, with time, those showers, storms, will ramp back up again. now here is the situation. i think actual ' be dealing primarily with really drenching downpours, frequent lightning, gusty winds. i can't rule out tornado. never guarantee on these things, but the situation may lends itself to that possibility. so stick with us on this, okay flashflood watch also goes into effect as of 2:00 p.m. because the rain we do see could drench us, quick check on the tropics, harvey is in the books, actually making bee line through the lesser antilles over the next couple of really over the next few hours really. but moving into the caribbean, over time it, should clear jamaica, but churn up the surf therefore maybe vacation planned, then eventually it will strike parts of central america, with another landfall now, back here on our shores, we're really looking again at
