tracking the threat of severe storms for later today, and says we can even see a tornado , well, today is friday , august 18, good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm rahel solomon. katie keeping an eye on things this morning, good morning, ladies. >> good morning, guys. happy friday. spinning my clicker, no clue what's going on outside. looking outside. >> spinner? >> looking outside right now, a lot of construction, no accidents, congestion levels starting to,. >> understood. some folks already dealing with it, especially up toward i80, extreme northern branches of the northeast extension, and your eye gets drawn to that, you guys mentioned a tornado. i don't think it is a guarantee, but certainly is possible. just the way the atmosphere will be setting itself up. instability growing, the key more than anything, i think, though, if we get ample sunshine, all need that to help get that instability going, regardless, storms, are on the way, it is just how strong, how severe do they turn?

at the moment then again, north most blanch of our area getting hit. do have couple of showers now popping across southwest new jersey, snow is one of those dates that features mixed bag. eventually, flashflood watch even goes into effect come 2:00 p.m. not from storms that are happening now, rather, the additional subsequent storms could go over the same areas, because the storms right now are heavy in those areas, you know it, could lead to some potential of flooding. that's where that will be coming from. poconos checking in at 68 degrees, 78 at the shore, 76 in the city. southerly wind flow, there you have it, that's what's getting this action going. more than anything. as we sit in the warm sector after storm. so warmfront continues to lift north. cold front has yet to cross. and until it does, we are going to sit in this very unstable air mass. so with showers, thunderstorms , i think you're most prone to see the strongest come later today. on the leading edge of the colds front that we will be tracking but we heat up before it gets here, upper 80s at the shore, in the sit, and we flirt with 80 in the poconos today, meisha. >> all right, katie, all good to know. very good to know for our morning commute. so far for the most part what

we've already looking at, still looking okay, the schuylkill at belmont, taillights moving in the eastbound direction, headlight moving in the westbound direction. this is kind after good picture of what we're just basically looking at anywhere. yes, headlights, taillights, starting to builds levels ever so slightly but overall things are still looking pretty good. anywhere that we look, quick peak at the blue route, baltimore pike, you can see the same story here. everyone still traveling around at posted speeds. but, like i said, heating up ever so slightly, but now that we push in the 6:00 hour we will see those changes, we do have an accident out, there heads up on this. torresdale neighborhood, north east philly vehicle hit pole here and downed wires as well. academy road at grant avenue, your alternate is frankford avenue, that's going to be your best bet if that's your neck of the woods. and also two points of construction in new jersey, so we have 168 black horse pike past kings highway, right lane cop pro mice dollars between route 42, ferry avenue, still crews youth, there as well, plus downed tree on the schuylkill, we will be talking about this coming up in the next ten minute, jim, rahel, back to you. >> thank you shall meisha. been another terror attack in spain.

>> this one police than 24 hours after a van plowed through crowd in barcelona, killing more than dozen people the latest happened in a seaside resort town just south of barcelona, authorities say they shot and killed five men, wearing fake suicide belts, now, according to local media, the men hit several civilians and police officer with a car. before being gunned down. investigators say this incident is linked to that van attack in barcelona. thirteen people died, at least 100 others injured. stay with "eyewitness news " and cbsphilly.com for the latest on the barcelona terror attacks, jan carabeo will join us live at 6:30, with more developments. >> in other news, vandals target frank rizzo statue for the thirds time this week. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do, back live in center sit way message, that was spray painted overnight, trang , good morning. >> well, good morning, rahel, jim. now the situation here, just constantly changing over the hour, but, take a look, i want to take right over here. where city crew has come out, has gun to remove the graffiti , that was tagged on the statue, overnight.

also, overnight, a woman you see there, had come over here to cover up that graph eat way blanket. before this city crew arrived. but sometime late thursday night, someone walk up to the statue, former mayor, and police commissioner frank rizzo, spray painted the phrase black power on t it was the third day in a row that the statue was vandalized following call for it removal by council women helen gym, and police brutality against african-americans was ram ted during the tenure. woman who identified herself as debbie came out overnight, and covered the blanket, rather, the statue, with a blanket saying those who are criticizing rizzo, did not know him. >> i just was real upset somebody would take the time out to do hatred like they just did to a statue to a man who has been not alive for 20 years, who did a lot of compassionate things for a lot of people in the city of philadelphia. so, if everybody would say, you know, we live in the sit of brotherly love, you know, like it is just, just very upset, that people would come

down to do this kind of stuff and demoralize our city like this. >> taking another look here at city crews clean up the graffiti, that was placed on this statue, late thursday night, now, there was a heavy police presence here, after the two prior incidents of vandalism. it is not clear why police officers anbar kids were removed after those incidents, but the woman, debbie, who had covered up this statue with a blanket says that she is going to remain out here and wait until mayor kenney comes to work so that she can discuss this issue with him. meanwhile, some people who agree with the graph eat that i was placed on the statue have come out here. they are voicing their opinions here, as well. so this is a very evolving situation out here. but for now, liver in center city, i'm trang do, cbs-3, " eyewitness news," jim, rahel, back to you. >> we can certainly here all of that activity in your live shot. be safe out there. thank you. new this morning police investigating after suv slams into a house in south philadelphia overnight. this is 13 and christian streets, as you can see, there

is significant damage to the house, we're told one person was taken to the hospital. there is no word on the victim's condition. meanwhile, in south jersey , police are investigating how a driver somehow tumbled out of her moving car. chopper three was over route 42 north in depford, police say the car was going around 60 miles per hour, when the woman fell on to the road. she was returned to the hospital with serious injuries lighting things up now, eagles took to the field as they continue their preparations for what they hope will be very successful regular season. pat gallen here with a in depth look at last night's game. pat? >> thank you, rahel. yes, pre-season game two in the books, mark it down as a win for the eagles. as they beat the buffalo bills 20 to 16, it wasn't all pretty let's take a look, back at the highlight, first team offense really struggled to find a rhythm. carson wentz taken down here for sack in the first quarter. the offensive line really had a down night. on the flip side, wentz was working to get on the same page as new wide out alshon

fire fighters oklahoma plucked a father and son from a creek, second before it swept them away. >> firefighters happened to be standing near the waterway that runs behind the fire station. that's when they spotted the father gripping his son as they were carried down the rushing flood waters. firefighters immediately jumped in to rescue mode, throwing a rope towards the exhausted victim. >> the boy tried. he didn't have any strength left. so i grabbed ahold of his arm, and the other firefighter grabbed the dad, and i was just holding on as tight as coy to his arm, his head was underwater. >> it took four people to eventually pull the man and his son from the powerful current. thankfully both expected to be okay. >> oh, boy. back here at home, we might see some rain ourselves, katie , quite a bit? >> it does look that way, actually see flashflood watch take effect at 2:00 p.m. because of. >> this so basically what's happening is this. duo of frontal boundaries, warmfront lifting through now, cold front has yet to cross.

words black power on the statue, the third time this week the statue was targeted. the vandalism comes as critics call for the removal of the statue honoring rizzo. the city's former mayor and police commissioner now people who want to see it come down say rizzo owe treated the african-american unfairly even brutally at times. 11,000 people however have signed on line petition to keep the statue where it is. >> in other news, man charged in the road rage killing after chester county woman will stand trial for murder. loved ones, of 18 year old victim bianca roberson gathered outside after west chester courtroom yesterday. accused of shooting roberson in the head when the two tried to merge in traffic in june. roberson's father said he plans to sue desper's family in civil court. >> he took something away from us, our daughter, took my daughter's life. we want our daughter here, but she can't come back. >> desper's arraignment is set for next thursday. he's behind bars without bail. local family is looking

for answers after a draw bridge down the shore opened up, while they were driving across it. it happened two weeks ago in lower township on the middle delaware fair bridge, that's southern ends every wildwood to cape may. the family says they paid the toll and made it to the middle of the bridge, but that's when it suddenly began to rise about three to 6 feet into the air, and he said he had no choice but to hit the gas, barely clearing the gap. >> we landed, with a big impact on the other side on the concrete on the other side so at that point we realized it wasn't open just a little bit. >> well authorities believe that strong sun glare may have played it hard for the operator to see the family driving across the bridge. now, everyone inside the car only suffered just few bumps and bruises, their suv, though , that sustained about $10,000 worth of damage. >> ouch. >> so scary. >> we are counting down, gearing for the solar eclipse, the moon will completely cover the sun.

though i want to show you her, starting to seat rainfall, out this cherry hill, pretty scattered starting to see s rain falling right now, but it is out, there i certainly just got hit by it, on the skydeck, it is not raining very heavily just yet. but there are some showers, starting to pick up, you see them here, through south- central new jersey, that is just heavy thunderstorm storms even rumbling into the long island connecticut area real which time. so, here's what's happening. warmfront lifting north, cold front draped back to the southwest, we sit in the warm sector of the storm system as a result. so building up heat, instability, and moisture, as the day goes on. and while you are going to see couple of showers, few thunderstorms along the way throughout the day, you're also going to see some sunshine, back, instability going, one of the mix bag type of forecasts, meantime we do sit in a severe threat zone, slight risk basically region wide but the worse and heaviest and strongest of the storms likely wouldn't get in here until second half of the day toward night fall. now the good news, this is all out of here, in time for the
