amanda: here with someone that knows a thing or two about winning the fedexcup. henrik stenson, you seem to be peaninging at the right time. what is going so well? >> i feel like i've been putting well this week. the pace is good. i've seen the lines nicely and when i get it there, i seem to make a lot of putts. to -- so the putting has been solid. hit a lot of good iron shots. a couple of swings haven't been satisfactory. two poor swings cost three shots today but really happy with the way i finished. amanda: first in the field this week in proximity to the hole. what is it going to take for you tomorrow to clinch that first win of 2017? >> hopefully keep playing the same way or even better. i have to hit a lot of 2-irons,

>> ♪ >> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> if you're going to go after the rizzo statue, then are you going to go after the washington monument and the lincoln memorial, two people that were known to own slaves. are we going to take william penn off the top of city hall. >> tonight at 6 o'clock another tribute to former philadelphia mayor frank rizzo is vandalized overnight. and developing also at this hour, thousands of counterprotesters take to the streets of boston demonstrating against hate following a free speech rally but things didn't stay

peaceful all afternoon. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us. what began as a planned free speech rally for activists in boston quickly turned into an anti-hate antiracism movement. crowds of counterprotesters filled the streets surrounding activists and booing their message. at least two dozen people have been arrested as some of the counterprotesters clashed with officers. cbs news correspondent kenneth craig has more. >> reporter: thousands of counterprotester counterprotesters outnumbered conservatives who showed up for a free speech rally in downtown boston. organizers insisted event was not a platform for hate but several alt right speakers attended. tom gallagher says he could not stay home and be silent. >> i respect free speech. that's not free speech.

that's hate speech. he was among a cloud fighting white supremacy that that marched several miles to the boston commons where speakers spoke out from a band stand. steven mcgrath is army veteran and joined the free speech group during the event. >> everybody has different views. if you take it to the violence level then you lose your argument 100 percent. >> reporter: the rally and protest was mostly peaceful an dramatic contrast to a week ago when hundreds of white nationalists violenting clashed with counterprotesters in virginia. heather hire was killed when a white supremacist allegedly rammed his car into a crowd of people. boston police did not want a repeat of what happened in charlottesville so they intentionally kept the two sides separated and limited the free speech event to just two hours. at least 500 officers helped control the crowd. >> i'm proud of the fact that here in boston we're able to have a very successful day. >> reporter: police escorted

one man from a rally wearing a stop white genocide t-shirt and broke up several small skirmishes in an attempt to keep the peace and prevent another tragedy. kenneth craig for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, duke university has now removed a robert e. lee statue from the duke chapel entrance. it was vandalized wednesday night. officials say the decision to remove the statue was done to ensure the safety of students and community members and to express the university's values. in houston thousands have signed a petition to take down the spirit of the confederacy statue. many showed up at the statue for a protest and counterprotest this afternoon. police say they will not tolerate any violence. a memorial service was held today meantime for virginia state trooper killed in a helicopter crash during the charlottesville protest. >> ♪ bag pipes and drums played in memory of lieutenant jay cullen. he was monitoring the white

nationalist protest when his helicopter crashed. a second trooper on board burke bates was also on board. one person in custody suspected of vandalizing a statue. a mural has been targeted. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh spoke to divided neighbors. >> you say you don't like it. that's fine. this is ridiculous. >> reporter: around 2:30 as a group of residents guarded the frank rizzo statue, spray painters targeted his mural in south philadelphia. >> i don't want to see anything get vandalized but i understand people have strong opinions. >> reporter: this isn't the first time this mural has been dee faced. this time the police saw the vandals in action chased them down and you can still see shattered jars of paint on the ground. after deadly protests in charlottesville virginia last weekend over the removal of

confederate monuments there have been renewed calls in philadelphia to take down tributes to rizzo a controversial former mayor. >> rizzo represents racism to a lot of people in philly u. >> reporter: but patricia believes rizzo's image should remain. >> what does frank rizzo have to do with the civil war. >> frank rizzo was with my mother. he's a personal friend of our family. we knew the man personally and we do not feel as though he was racist. >> reporter: meantime in center city overnight ryan ty stood watch over the rizzo statue which has been vandalized several times this week alone. >> are it's not as much for the statue, it's not a political stance it's the fact you're teaching a generation that if you don't agree with something it's okay to demolish it. of. >> reporter: one city leader is pushing for the removal of the statue. those discussions are expected to begin in september. at the italian market anita

own last name. >> reporter: been busy lately. >> i have. >> reporter: she has been guest lecturing for months on solar eclipses and preparing for a big event monday at the university to celebrate the i can clips which has become a national obsession. >> eclipses are not all that rare. they happen about once a year on average. but what's rare both one is that it's in the u.s. which is which has not happened for almost 40 years. >> reporter: the edelman planetarium which has a 40-foot dome screen and seats about 100 people is a great place to learn about astronomy year round. this weekend planetarium visitors wanted to learn more about what else. >> the solar eclipse. >> reporter: what are you excited about with in. >> i never got to see one before this one. >> reporter: this is sort of the calm before the eclipse. munroe and what expects to have more than a thousand people at their event here. they'll be doing shows starting around 12:30. kids' activities and then the main event outside watching

let's take you to a look at storm scan3 where we are quiet but we're going to zoom out because we're tracking a couple of showers and thunderstorms out to our west making their way into portions of central pennsylvania. these are going to be trekking on towards the east so we will have the risk for a shower or thunderstorm later on this evening. 8:00 p.m. things looking just fine in philadelphia. 80 degrees. but between about 9 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. we could see a stray shower or storm making its way into center city with temperatures in the upper 70's. we're at 76 by midnight. all of the activity diminishes and things quiet down and skies will be turning mostly clear. the official high temperature today was 88 degrees in philadelphia. the normal high for this time of year 85 so we were about 3 degrees above that. we're now down to 87 degrees in the city. we're in the mid 80's down the shore. 86 degrees in atlantic city. we're checking in right around glow wildwood. 86 trenton. look at these dewpoints a far cry from what we dealt with yesterday when dewpoints are in are -- were in the 70's. 63 in philadelphia and we have

more comfortable where that's coming from. so tomorrow is going to feel great but humidity will be creeping back up later on this week. let's take you to future weather now, show you these showers and storms as they push east. notice they weaken. between 9 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. they'll be crossing the i-95 corridor. a risk for a shower or thunderstorm will be there. starting out sunday with tons of sunshine then plenty of sunshine as we head into the afternoon so a great pool day on tap, a great beach day as well. here's you were forecast for tonight. stray shower early mostly clear. tomorrow mostly sunny less humid a high temperature around 88 degrees. a quick check at our live neighborhood network, people still out on the beach in rehoboth. 85 degrees sunday s-lots of sunshine. great beach day on monday 83 degrees. risk for an isolated thunderstorm as we head into tuesday. let's take you to your eyewitness weather seven-day forecast. i told you i would let you know about the weather for the eclipse. things are looking great,

his bowl game. >> i think i need top continue continue -- to continue to improve and there's things -- there's a lot of things i should have done better. >> the phillies headed west this week. the giants and padres. they have nothing to show for it dropping all five games. tonight they hope top get a win when jerad eickhoff takes the mound. last night derek partly cloudy with a double scoring two runs and the giants never looked back. the phillies could not figure out the giants' matt moore. he came into the game with the highest era for starter and held the phils to just two runs in seven and a third innings. phillies drop their sixth straight game 10-two the final. they'll try again tonight. >> a little bit of a struggle. thank you lesley. how daring are you? would you whiz through the middle of a city on a mat? why a massive

>> finally tonight it was a long day for officers in jackson new hampshire when a llama got loose this week. the llama got out of his pen to chase a bear who was after some ducks that were housed near his enclosure. the llama got as far as a local golf course surprising those on the green before officers wrangled noir and brought him home. a gentle tug coaxed him. just needed a little love to get back home.
