newsroom. and we begin with breaking news this morning a train crash has injured at least 42 people. where you know train coming into the upper darby station just after midnight crashed into an unoccupied train. four people suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized, their injuries were not considered life threatening. one passenger said there was blood everywhere. in our other big story this morning, clear orders to u.s. troops in afghanistan. fight to win. president trump outlined a new strad strategy. he did not talk about troop numbers and admitted any final peace may valve some kind of settlement with the taliban. seth is in washington with more. good morning. >> good morning.

that spokesman said that as long as there is an american soldier in their country they would continue our jihad but president trump made it clear there would be booten othe ground. this is a plan being praised by republicans but this morning it's been called too vague. >> not arbitrary timetables will guide our strategy from now on. >> president trump laid out a new course of action for the war in afghanistan. the president said he will boost the number of american troops but wouldn't specify how many. he also wouldn't say what would stress a victory. he also said that afghanistan will have to carry the heaviest load in carrying its future. >> we will not dictate how to live or how to govern their own complex society.

we are not nation building again. we are killing terrorists. >> the president was widely applauded by fellow republicans even those who have come out against the violence in charlottesville. senator john mccain tweeted i commend the new strategy for afghanistan. >> i'm pleased with the decision. i'm please with the way he went about making that decision. >> nancy pelosi released a statement criticizing the statement for declaring an open ended commitment of american lives. the taliban released a statement urging the u.s. to withdraw all troops insisting it will fight with a strong spirit and full determination. >> president trump said he was initially inclined to just pull out of afghanistan, but said

that after talking with aides he realized the vacuum that could create for terrorist organizations. >> thanks. the president will hold a campaign style rally in phoenix and opponents say they will protest outside the convention center. they plan to highlight mr. trump's immigration policies and plans for joe arpaio. the search continues for ten missing u.s. sailors off the coast of singapore. they were lost when the u.s.s. john s. mctan collided with an oil tanker. it was the second major collision involving the fleet in two months. the search for five missing army soldiers lost when their koptder crashed last week has

been called off. the crew was on a training mission when it disappeared. the cause of the crash is under investigation. the man who shot and wounded a job yesterday was the father of a high school player convicted of rape in 2016. he's expected to recover. the suspect was shot and killed by a probation officer. the judge who was carrying a gun also returned fire. >> i mean, this was just cold-blooded attempted murder on a judge. and that's not the way it's supposed to be in america, but it is, and that's sad. >> records indicate the judge was overseeing a lawsuit filed by the suspect. they're looking for a motive for the shooting. a detention hearing is looking for a man who planned

confederate soldier. the city is meeting against all of its monuments. >> you do not have a fist amendment right to defend any of the statues, the monuments that exist in this si, whether you like it or you don't. allow the process to take its course. >> the fbi is also investigating. the spanish man officials believe drove the van that plowed through pedestrians in barcelona was shot and killed by police. they have scientific evidence that he was the driver that killed 14 people. four other suspects were taken to jail. at least one person was killed when an earthquake struck an italian resort island.
