60s, the question is, will it last? today is friday, august 25th, good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm rahel solomon. matt and meisha keeping an eye on things this morning, good morning. >> good morning, guys, isn't it nice to finally turn down the air conditioner little bit >> i still have mine. >> i turned mine off. >> nice outside. >> i had mine on. i sleep in a meat locker. >> you do? really cold? >> then do you have a big blanket over you? >> i like. >> moving right along, just a lot of construction, overall things looking really good. couple every accident, cleared out easy, so your drive so far so good. >> weather not going to be a factor for us this morning, now, there are a couple of light showers out there, but again, our commute, not going to be affected by those showers. you see on storm scan3, there they are, moving through the lehigh valley few areas down in delaware, could get few light showers, as well. but, in general, here, across philly, we are dry. now, we can't rule out maybe a stray sprinkle or two for maybe about the next half hour or so. but that's really about it.

outside, on our palmyra cove nature park, neighborhood network camera. you can see there are maybe a little bit of cloud out there. but for the most part it is a quiet and clear start to the day across the entirety of the delaware valley. 60s for the most part. but then head down the shore it, does maybe get little warmer head down toward barnegat there 66, our temperature also in philly, and then stone harbor coming in at 63. that land breeze, will keep our temperatures up little bit here this morning. and it could maybe keep us little bit warmer this afternoon, but still overall going to be very comfortable day even back down near the shore points. temperatures go from the six's this morning, going to be great day, maybe sneak outside , get outside lunch today, 75, around noontime or so, going with high later this afternoon of 80 degrees, all of the sunshine out, there and all of the low humidity, meisha, i don't think we can ask for anything better, even if you do like warm warmer temperatures, still going to be fantastic friday. >> you he'd in it. everybody should be eating outside today matt. yes, did feel cool they are morning, but in like real nice

comfortable way. so just gorgeous, gorgeous day thanks so much, matt, good morning to all of you, very, very happy friday. so looking outside right now, beautiful skyline here. 422, headlights eastbound past oaks, looking great, nice open roadways, enjoy them, while we've got them. they may stay that time for quite some time. looking good. schuylkill here, schuylkill taillights moving in the eastbound direction, past montgomery drive. we're starting to see some movement. headlight, taillights, both directions on the schuylkill, starting to pick uply bit. over all still looking pretty good there. ninety-five south, push in the southbound direction, before girard, what you are looking at here, man, those skylines, some of these cameras shots so gorgeous, pushing in the southbound direction before girard starting to builds. overall things look being pretty good. still travel at posted speeds. but this is one of those areas that is getting a little busy. i would say you don't have to add any extra time yet. as we progress deeper in the 6:00 hour have to start too. delaware county, 95 north, 452 , take it all the way up to

the airport. what we are looking at. looking good, there accident new hanover township still out there. shaeffer road, partially blocking so if this is your necker of the woods, heads up. car fire in souderton, so route 309 southbound at souderton road that's pulled all the way out to the shoulder. jim, back to you. >> meisha, residents on the texas gulf coast are preparing for hurricane harvey, which strength ends to category two storm overnight. to get idea of the magnitude tide of this dangerous storm, video from harvey from outer space. take a lock at this monster. cbs news correspondent don champion in corpus christi, texas, where residents are being urged to immediately evacuate their homes. >> babies from neonatal intensive care unit in corpus christi tested were flown north to safety thursday as harvey honed in. the national hurricane center called the still strengthening storm life threatening. it is expected to bring perilous winds, historic flooding and destructive storm surge along the texas gulf coast.

>> we expect as much as six to 12 feet to rise water. >> in the flood prone city of houston, harvey could be a catostrophic event if the storm surge is just a bit higher. the houston ship channel is the second largest oil and gas complex in the world. >> we could see the worsen vier on mental disaster in the us history, probably shutdown, cause major gap in gasoline. >> as if harvey makes landfall here isn't enough, weather models show the storm stalling out, and staying here in southeast texas, for several days, dumping as much as 35 inches every rain on some areas. >> the concern here is as it works it way back down to the southeast, possibly out over the open water, we could be seeing maybe a row strengthening going into tuesday every next week. coastal resident are taking harvey seriously. many boarded up their homes, and stock up on supplies, as officials urged them to get out and head as far inland as possible. >> the more i watch of it, i'm just not going to take that

chance. >> the governor of texas has already declared pre-emptive state of disaster, 30 counties don champion, for cbs 3, " eyewitness news." turning to sports, eagles fans waking up very happy this morning, after a big pre-season win against miami dolphins. to the field we go. birds offense starting hot with carson wentz during 50 yards, yes, watch it go. and scored a touchdown. wentz going to throw, yep, ball get tipped at the line and gets tipped off. wentz not done. look to go wide receiver alshon jeffrey from 15 yards out. wentz finish the day six out of ten with two touchdowns and one interception. the eagles win it 38 to 31. and here's don bell with more on the eagles defense. >> once again, pre-season game number three is in the books. the eagles taking on the miami dolphins earlier in the show. we told you about the offense, and carson wentz, and they were somewhat sharp.

defense, that's another whole story. we show you how newcomber ronald darby did, in this game here we, are in the first quarter, and gets beat by parker, 72-yard gain, and the dolphins would later score a touchdown, on that drive. meanwhile, linebacker michael kendrick is balling. here we in the second quarter, picks off matt moore, kendrick with third pick in three pre-season games. and that's a pick six. birds defense, spotty, showed promise. the birds win 38 to 31. >> we had a lot of take aways, so we had our ups and downs, you know, i made my mistakes, so but overall, as defense effort, they did very well. >> the next time we see the starting defense, will be on september 10th, in the season opener at washington. >> coming to you from lincoln financial field, i'm don bell for cbs-3, eyewitness sports. >> and eagles fans are feeling pretty confident net team this

year, we spoke with them outside at the linc. >> defense, i like the offense , i think they played really really well. their defense was on point. their offense could have been a little bit better but they did really good. >> our floor director already talking about the superbowl, all right, all right. well the eagles take on the jets next thursday for the final game of the season. and they'll be playing again at life stadium in new jersey. >> speaking every football, nf l draft was an economic boost for philadelphia. a new report commissioned by the philadelphia convention and visitors bureau finds the draft at an economic impact of nearly $95 million. that's well above the $80 million initially estimated. a record breaking 250,000 people attended the draft on the ben franklin parkway, we're still waiting to hear if philadelphia will host the draft again next year. well, new this morning, police are investigating a home invasion in north philadelphia that ended in gunfire. officers say just before 1:30, two armed men broke into a home the 3,000 block of north

23rd street. one of the residents ran for the front door, and she was shot in the back. she now in critical condition. police are now questioning two men, they have no motive just yet. >> and overnight shooting in east germantown puts two men in the hospital. police say they heard shots on the 1300 block of east rittenhouse street just before 1:00 this morning, when they arrived, dar sped away from the scene. crashed into a house just blocks away, that driver is now in custody but his passenger ran away. police are investigating what caused the shooting. >> well, a community is taking a stand against hate after lazies graffiti is found on bucks county school. vandals deface the sign outside of herbert hoover elementary in langhorne. "eyewitness news" at a community meeting in middletown township last night police say the racist graffiti was scribbled on the school's sign, friday night, just days before the start of the school year. we spoke with one of the meeting's organizers who says hate has no place in their community. >> ugly graffiti. ugly racist graffiti was found , the community is concerned about it.

>> hundreds un every folks lacing up their sneakers for the susan g. komen walk for breast cancer? henry rossoff live outside the willow grove park mall where the race dicks off in less than an hour. not much activity now but soon there will be? >> not so fast, let me show you, a lot of people arriving back here, you can see, people by the pink and white tents, registering, expect being 400 people out here in all, and i see maybe about 100 here so far. again, 400 people, raising at least $2,300 each, the one person, we're told by organizers, has almost $25,000 pledge in the that person's name for the three days of walking. all this in the name of ending breast cancer. there are 17 stops along the way, today's stops for anyone interested in coming out and cheering along the crowd include chestnut hill, morris arboretum, flourtown, speaking with some people arriving early. i just met jessie from denver,

he pick different spot each and every every year to honor his mother, after her diagnosis with with breast cancer this year. particularly, special and a little difficult because she passed late last year. take a listen. >> this year will be different , i'll be very much invested emotionally in it, even more than before because my mom lost her battle. but the emotional aspect of it is something you can't prepare for. i really just have to rely on the people around me. and the support of family, friends, you know, just to be able to remember her and the positivity that she always lives life with. >> 400 incredibly moving stories, just like that one, out here today, beginning this 60-mile walk over three days, we will continue to talk to folks and introduce to you one more person live a little later this hour. but for now, live in willow grove, henry rossoff, cbs-3, " eyewitness news." >> end risker looking good out there. good to see people out there earl. >> i hey, they've got great

weather for there is if you want more information on the komen three day walk check out our website we will be posting pictures, videos, right here on cbsphilly.com. >> let's sends it over to matt , just right on cue after what jim said, the weather should be perfect this weekend for the komen walk. >> absolutely. wonderful conditions for everybody that is going to be out there this weekend, looks like it will be low humidity, lot of cooler temperatures, if you are out there early in the day, it is really going to be fantastic walking or running weather. we will talk about not just today but tomorrow and saturday, and i want to give everybody a quick update on hurricane harvey. it continues to spiral in the gulf of mexico identifying the texas coastline at this point, currently category two hurricane, it is forecasted to strengthen to category three, if it does make landfall, category three hurricane it would be the first major hurricane to hit the continental us in just about 12 years. hurricane wilma, the last to do it in october of 2,005. also making landfall, as a hurricane, as category three

hurricane. so again, we are continuing to track this, and you can see, it makes landfall, looks like, maybe early tomorrow morning. and then it just spirals over top of the gulf coast of texas , and we could be potentially looking at rainfall, that is catostrophic in amounts upward of 20, 25, even 30 some odd inches of rain potentially going to be seen along the texas coastline there. so again, this is very, very dangerous situation, down in texas, now, we could see some of the remnants of that later next week, give us couple of showers, but for the most part here this morning on storm scan3, few light showers are still out there. but they are fizzling. and they'll continue to do so as we go through the rest of the early morning. if you are headed to the poconos, 07 degrees today, looking great through saturday , 68 and even by sunday still looking pretty good, back up to the 70s. seven day forecast, again, friday, saturday, sunday, four year komen race looking good. 80 degrees, 79 tomorrowment back to 80 sunday, meisha. then there is the chance for maybe scattered shower on tuesday.

popular music sharing app, and asked her to undress. brad fake said his seven year old daughter was using his wife's phone to make videos on the music app. then someone who claim to be nine years old message dollars his daughter and asked her to send photos of herself without any clothes on. she said no, but the person behind the screen wouldn't stop, that's when she told her parents. >> we taught her that if anyone asked her to show herself in ways that she was uncomfortable with, that she come to us and let us know, and that's exactly what she did. >> the father posted exchange on facebook and it has been shared more than 08,000 times. he hopes that this will serve as reminder to parents to talk with their kids about the dangers they could face on line. >> five school off initials denver are on administrative leave after viral video surfaced showing cheerleaders being forced, we have to warn you, it is hard to watch, may be authorities listen to, could be upset to go some

viewers. >> no, no, no, no, no! >> the parent of alley say their daughter showed them this video of her cheer coach forcing her into a split. the incident happened back in june, but just recently surfaced and the video you can hear her there crying out in excrutiating pain as she is being held down, her mother says that didn't stop them. >> my daughter begging for them to stop. somebody had attack my little girl and people sat around and let it happen. nobody stopped them. >> the superintendent released statement emphasizing that forced splits or any other activity that puts a student's physical or mental health at risk is prohibited. >> i hate hearing that video. oh, just she apparently her mom said she is now in physical therapy. hope she's okay. it gives me chills. >> up neck, the starbucks sushi bar ito, have your attention in we'll explain what it is after the break. >> plus, thousands of parents

>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> good morning, everyone, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm rahel solomon. 6:30. here's what you need to know to start your day in the morning minute. today, august 25th, 2017. >> hurricane harvey strengthens overnight, as resident along the texas gulf coast prepare for the worse. >> forecasters are label harvey life threatening storm, most powerful storm system to hit the us since 2005. >> a community gathers together, calling for an ends to hate, after racist graffiti is found outside a local elementary school. >> will not be accepted. >> pre-season game number three, is in the books. and the highlight of the night , came from the offense and carson wentz, the birds went 38 to 31, after, ready for the season opener.

up in kutztown this morning, it is cool there. 58 degrees. a wonderful sunrise. few clouds, but all every those great colors to start out the day. up in the lehigh valley. now couple of showers, not completely ruled out to start he day up there, as well, but take a look at the temperature map here it is looking like it is in the 60s pretty much everywhere, again, cut down 58 , allentown 61, mount pocono , coolest spot coming in at 52. and then as you head down near the shore points 63 this morning in wildwood, at the a.c. airport. really though just going to be fantastic day later in the day see plenty of sunshine, we take a look at the day planner here, 69 degrees, here in philly. right around 9:00 or so. lunchtime it looks like it will be a great day, maybe grab outdoor bite to eat, 75 degrees, sunshine, not too much of a breeze, just great great day there. then we top things out at zero eight later this afternoon, all the way through the weekend, meisha, looks like we stay in the high seven, a low zero eight lane, saturday, sunday, looking just as nice as today. >> people are loving this, matt, all right.

thank you so much. yes, we have been talking about that for days how beautiful the weekend we have on tap. and because of the nice weather we have nice commute this morning, as well, though, couple of issues going on, not so much here, 42 freeway creek road approaching 295, working with in terms of levels. but this guy, pulled all the way off to the far left, abandon vehicle there, we did have -- didn't look like tow truck or service truck, just now looks like these vehicles are just stranded there, so heads up on that. take a look at the skyline, take a look at that rising sun fifty-nine south at cottman, you guys, held dollars out on 59 around cottman, what you are working with, looking pretty good. make sure to pack those sunglasses. now, this is where we have overturned vehicle, 59 south before the blue route. it looks like this is actual i a lot more cleaned up than what we were looking at 20 minutes ago, the backups behind it, yikes. again, so, that overturned vehicle, 59 south at the blue route, backups leading to up where it; where the clean up is happening now. and you can see, all lanes

bumper to bumper conditions right now, if not stopping, as you approach it, get out there , closer, i should say, almost completely stopped there. gaper delay as you kinds of squeeze by, if you can avoid the area you absolutely want to do so. then, we did have accident new hanover township now since cleared. but we are still looking at some construction krause out there, garden state parkway between the a.c. expressway and black horse pike, left lane block, until around 7:30, 8:00. rahel, back to you. >> meisha, thank you. hurricane harvey continues to intensify as it inches closer and closer to the texas gulf coast. earlier this morning it strength toned category two storm. forecasters label it a life threatening storm. it is the most powerful system to hit the us since 2,005. hurricane has potential for up to throw feet of rain, 125- mile per hour winds. and 12-foot storm surges. weather models show it stalling out over southeastern texas for days. >> we could see the worsen vier mental disaster in the

united states history. >> concern here, as it works its way back down to the southeast, possibly out over the open water, we could be seeing maybe a restrengthening going into tuesday of next week. >> the governor of texas declared pre-emptive state of disaster and 30 counties yesterday. the storm is expected to make landfall either late tonight or tomorrow morning as category three hurricane. >> and while many coastal resident are making their way out of the path of the storm, doctors, nurses and other rescue personnel, well, they are headed toward the storm to help. doctors at cook's children's medical center in fort worth are working feverishly to transport critically ill babies out of the storm's path they're wore i had that high winds and flooding could create major power outages, that could affect available food and clean water. >> if i were a parent i would be scared but i know we'll take care of their children like they were our very own. >> speaks to the dedication of what they do how much it means to them to be able to is her. >> for those who can't leave, a texas task force specializ

front of the municipal services building, some want it torn down siting rizzo's record on race relations, others want it to stay. you can learn how to smith your ideas to the city at cbsphilly.com. >> man is facing sexual assault charges in bensalem. police say his alleged victim, texted 911 for help while hiding in a apartment closet. this is the suspect christopher of collingdale, delaware county, alleged incident took place saturday. emergency dispatch who received the victim's text messages told the woman to call 911 so they could find her location in the gps on her cell phone. >> the 911 dispatcher talking her through the whole process basically toll her, listen, stop texting, dial 911, but don't talk. because the guy was still in the area. it may have saved her life this technology. pretty darn close to it. >> well, bail for him is now 10% of $10 million. charges against him include rape, and false imprisonment.

>> snap chat post leads police to this man in gibbsboro, camden county. police arrester dollars mason mallon at his clementon road saturday after he sexually assault add woman and posted images of her on his snap chat friends of the victim saw her in the post and called police, he is being held in the camden county jail. >> some local lawmakers want the federal government to speed up the process with investigating septa train accidents. "eyewitness news" got exclusive look at the 69 street station platform in upper darby where a septa train crashed on tuesday. the train plowed into the back after park train, 33 people, you may recall, were hurt, there was also a train accident in upper darby in february. congressman bob brady and upper darby mayor are outraged at the lent of typical national transportation safety board investigation. brady want congressional hearing. >> this is going to take another year, almost a year to find out what's happening. that's unacceptable. you got to get confidence back

"eyewitness news" reporter henry rossoff live outside the willow grove park mall for the race set to kick move about two minute, good morning, henry. >> overhead look from the chopper at the 400 walkers gathered to raise more than $2 million at the philadelphia three day, incredible event, this event raised more than $68 million since 2005 in philadelphia, let me bring in sioux fran at lan tax the atlanta walk ten times, furs time doing the philly walk. welcome. what inspired you? >> team of 12, team from pittsburgh, charlotte, raleigh , north carolina, richmond, virginia and atlanta my mom died from breast cancer when i was 15, and she was 39. so now i'm 42, so i feel like it is my responsibility to do this walk for her. and for all of the people that have been affected by breast

cancer, and i'm a thyroid cancer survivor, so i'm excited to be here, as well, because cancer affect so many people in so many different ways. >> i wore there is supporting breast cancer today, but the ribbons represent so many other times every cancer. so i wanted to wear this to represent that i've got many people on my passion, so i wanted to wear this because it really represents a look at cancer that has affected us. >> your group were you telling me doing aggressive fundraising. >> this has been your own group. run me through your numbers. pretty incredible. >> what an honor. so many people trusted me to donate to our cause. so i personally number two fundraiser for the philly event so i raised 24,000 myself and our team has raised 58, incredible. very proud of our team. >> we appreciate your time, susan's story one every hundreds out here that will continue to introduce to you throughout this weekend of
