hurricane harvey is hammering texas storm scan three shows eye moving inland in the southeast texas right now, harvey made land fall around 10:00 central time last night bringing witt heavy rain and sustain winds of 130 miles an hour. it is still strong enough to pull down this road sign over i37 near corpus christie. good morning, everyone i'm jan carabao we will get to meteorologist matt peterson with a check of our forecast in a moment, but first the latest on the harvey, category two storm capable of extensive damage. for many, the misery is just beginning. don champion is live in corpus christi not far from where

harvey made land fall and we are already hearing about a lot of damage right there. >> reporter: you can see some of this behind our hotel here, trees down, fences down every where and more significant damage. and while daylight will begin to reveal some of that, the slow motion disaster is far from over. a torrential rain, high winds, pounded the texas golf coast, harvey made land fall 30 miles northe of corpus christi as a category four her dane, the most intense storm to hit the u.s. in more than a decade. 125 miles per hour winds, took aim at the town of rockport, a high school, a senior housing center and parts of historic downtown, all hit. hours later, the monster storm made a second land fall, and started weakening, but it is

on track to jump up to 3 feet of rain in some areas. as harvey approached officials urged coastal residents to evacuate, many boarded buses and headed inland. >> trying to be strong because i don't want my children to sianni then they get scared, you know, they will be scared. i have to be a strong mother for them. >> reporter: texas governor greg abbott visited a shelter in san antonio. >> most important thing you can do is safe guard your own life. >> reporter: still in the storm's path flood prone houston and cities more than 2 million residents as well as key oil refineries, forecast is already pushed up gas prices, harvey is expect to stick around for days and could spin back in the gulf, and strike again, next week. and just to give you an idea of how much rain parts of this region are expecting, january, the national weather service had to add another color to

its precipitation map, to illustrate rain chances of more than 20 inches, just incredible. >> incredible storm, don, so we're hearing people there actually need help but first responders just can't get to them, what do you know about that. >> reporter: that is right, there came a certain point during the storm, when local officials said that we are not going to put the lives of first responders, at risk, in fact, jan, overnight i saw a building, what looked like a building burning just down the street from our hotel, fire crews just not go out into the conditions, within the pennsylvania hour or so we have started to see some first responders driving around, and i guess just assessing some of the initial damage here, but certainly as conditions start to improve, a little bit, we might, see some first responders out, and about for sure. >> as you said, don, this is just beginning, please do stay

safe both you and your photographer, thanks very much for latest on where harvey is heading and look at our forecast at home here's meteorologist matt peterson in the eyewitness weather center. this storm will take days to move out of there. >> it will circle around looking at models for harvey, it is what we call a squash spider, it is just all of the models all over the place, there is no consensus about where it will go, it is looking like it will circle back around maybe back out in the golf as don was talking about in his package and if that could happen it could re strengthen and make another land fall furthere on the texas coastline. this storm is far from over. it made land fall at 11:00 o'clock eastern time 10:00 o'clock central time and since then it has been wreaking havoc across the texas coastline. here is storm scan three showing you harvey right off the bat, corpus christi is, right there on the south side of the system, vittoria is in there as well, it looks like

our eye wall is making its way to victoria. center of this system is 40 miles off shore, it made land fall last night on san jose island and made a second land fall further inland as well, past one of the bays just beyond san jose island. again, everybody's eyes continue to look down to south texas where 30 to 35 to 36, maybe even inches of rain are possible, we're talking about a years worth of rain for these folks in under a week, it is just going to be absolutely devastating once this system does eventually, pull away from the area. now back here closer to home we are looking at temperatures this morning that are on the warmer side of things in a few areas, just shy of 70 here in philadelphia, it is 68 but we're the warm spot. other spots out there including millville at 61. poconos this morning 46 degrees, that is sweat shirt weather to say the least day planner here we will be up to 70 by 9:00 this morning a

wonderful day for us here in the delaware valley, sunshine 75 at lynch time and then again, we will get up to 79 degrees this afternoon. we will talk more about our forecast and more about harvey in a bit. >> great, thanks matt. as texas deals with harvey a dozen red cross volunteers from philadelphia and new jersey are now on the way to help. as "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff tells us more volunteers may soon be on the way. >> reporter: help is on the way for more than 1300 miles away. red cross is in southeastern pennsylvania is ready to cyst with what will be a massive endeavor offering aid with millions in its path. >> it will impact our community in the sense of the resources that we need to marshall to support those who are affected. >> reporter: hurricane harvey is expect to make land fall near corpus christi texas where flooding, high winds have already made an impact, storm is then expected to whoever over houston dumping

what could be a 3 feet of devastating rainfall alongside tornado strength winds. buses continue to shuttle hundreds out of corpus christi coastal hotels in harvey's path are being cleared, babies in the neonatal unit flown north to safety and those boarding up before fleeing, fear for what they will return home too. >> what he don't know what will happen or if we will come back to home or what damage we are coming home to. >> reporter: at philadelphia international airport. >> u penn student and houston resident jennifer lee says that she took off from home just in time but thoughts will remain with her family riding out the storm in texas. >> i'm definitely concerned, yeah, everyone is pretty concerned about what will happen during the storm, flooding and what can happen afterward. >> reporter: two philadelphia area volunteers from the red cross are already on the ground in texas along with 10 from new jersey, both states

at 100 miles an hour, it is just under category three status still a very serious storm. taking a look at harvey on storm scan three you can see mack dude of this storm and we hear that streetlight in the live picture on our left just blew out, meteorologist matt peterson will have the latest on the storm's path in a few minutes. well, each year dozens of children all across across across the country die after being left in hot cars and that prompted car make tours create back seat alarms, that some argue could be as life saving as a seat belt. kennett craig reports from new york. >> reporter: police responded to not one but two hot car deaths on the same day this pennsylvania july. both babies were forgotten in cars with temperatures, reaching into the high 90's. the group kid in cars says that so far this year, 36 children have died this way. now, some auto makers are rolling out new technology, to help prevent these tragedies. >> they are absolutely heart

2018 pathfinders. >> it is not a solution, it is a step in the right direction. >> reporter: one advocates say it is a critical step toward saving lives, kennett craig for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". back now to weather now and our top story, of course is hurricane harvey. matt, we hear it has been downgraded to a category two but still very strong. >> absolutely still a storm that is packing a punch to say the least. it is not going to be done for more than a few days either. it will circle down there near corpus christi, houston as well and extremely unfortunate we're talking about feet of rain as i said before possibly a year worth of rain in the week. just insane the amount of water that is going to be sitting down there over southeastern texas, really not just through this weekend but it looks liken into the coming week as well. so here are the current stats on harvey, of course, it made land fall last night as a

category 41st category four since 1961, hurricane carlos to make land fall in texas. category two. hundred miles an hour sustained wind, moving slowly 6 miles an her to the north and west. for the most part right now it is still just inundating the south east coastline with lots of water, and it is only going to remain that way. it will possibly get worse as we go through next couple of days, right to storm scan three you can see underneath our satellite, radar those orange and red as well, that is our hurricane and tropical storm warnings, all the way from brownsville texas right on the boarder with mexico, all the way up to the louisiana border. so the entire gulf coast of texas at this point is either under a hurricane or a tropical storm warning because of the winds that are going to be seen, extending themselves through the coastline and then where all of the water is, it is right now moving inland. eye of the hurricane is just

about 40 miles inland from san jose island where it made land fall last night at 10:00 o'clock central time and right around the eye which you can still see even as this weakens to a category two, lots and lots of heavy bands of thunderstorm activity is where we are seeing strong winds at this point still gusting over a hundred miles an hour with sustained winds right around a hundred miles an hour and it will continue to weaken as it continues over land, but what we will see is actually a chance for this to circle back around toward the gulf of mexico and fit does it could strengthen back into a stronger storm but again we will be continuing to watch this, our storm scan now switching over to satellite. you can see that eye without all of the radar on there and show you precipitation. still a very intense, very strong storm, circling across southeastern texas. back close to home is there not a whole lot happening a few cloud for us, this morning in general it will be a very nice, sun filled day, you can see future weather in the

talking about anything today or thomas we look to tomorrow morning. now, they are trying to paint in a couple showers on sunday afternoon, it will be dry tomorrow even though future weather tries to paint those showers in and then into monday looking good, once again, to start out our workweek. here is our seven day forecast , 79 today, plenty of sunshine for day number two of our komen walk for the cure, three day walk for a cure. seventy-eight tomorrow. we wrap it up with very nice conditions, moving into early next week, still nice on monday, our pattern continues, 80 for a high temperature. some sunshine for us. we could go with spotty shower chances through middle of the week, tuesday, wednesday, even into thursday as well but jan, it clears out by friday and even though we have rain chances our temperatures are staying well below average. i think we have finally turned the page, thinking more about fall, then summer. >> no kidding, okay, matt, thank you. this week cbs-3's summer fest rolled into haddonfield,

today, of course is hurricane harvey but back here at home weather is looking lovely this weekend. meteorologist matt peterson is live this morning with eyewitness weather, matt, good morning. >> good morning, like you said all eyes are on the texas coastline as harvey continues to pound away at south texas, but here, back in the delaware valley we are looking very calm, very comfortable, and absolutely great for our weekend. outside right now here on the sky deck it feels great, down at the beach in rehoboth taking a look at our neighborhood network quiet start to the day down there as well and our beach forecast, shore cast, today, it will be fantastic, high of 77 degrees, all that sunshine. water temperature is 75. great day to get out there and catch rays, use the sun screen , there isn't too much risk for rip currents but you want to be swimming as well by the life guard and you will not have any kind of problems. taking a look at storm scan three there is harvey pounding away at south texas coastline

where the storm made land fall has taken a hard hit. there is damage to rockport high school and senior housing complex. president trump has issued a disaster declaration for texas , it allows federal aid that could include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low cost loans and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the storm. he plans to visit texas, next week. as hurricane harvey batters the gulf coast, folks in new jersey are remembering the devastating super storm sandy. about 400 homes and businesses in brigantine suffered substantial damage during that storm, and atlantic county officials have spent millions of dollars on safety improvements including new storm water pumps and raising hundreds of home to taller standard. still some people there are wondering what happens if another major storm comes through. >> are we prepared to respond, we will? we will respond as best as we can, but, again, there is still that unknown and for us,

that is what makes the job a little difficult is unknown but we will do what we have to do. >> now atlantic county officials there say after dealing with super storm sandy they want to warn all residents if ever instruct to evacuate during a major storm, please do so. in other news this morning investigators are trying to pinpoint what sparked an fire at an apartment building in delaware county. fire fighters rushed to this three alarm fire at cher and wood land avenue around 2:30 friday afternoon now everyone got out of the three story building, fortunate too since some there heard an explosion and because of the roof collapsed, fire fighters had trouble battling the flames. >> due to the collapse of the roof, we cannot put anybody inside of the building. we're surrounding it with the largest hose in the ladder trucks. >> reporter: one person was treated with smoke inhalation. a former philadelphia narcotics officer is facing jail time this morning after he admitted giving woman drugs in exchange for sex. david spunt was in the courtroom when the former officer pleaded guilty. >> reporter: authorities say on different occasions former philadelphia nature cod innings officer stan davis pick up two women from kensington, gave them drugs and had sex with them. sometimes in new jersey motel rooms, other times in his police car. davis admitted to also supplying the woman heroin and cocaine. >> we don't judge a person by their worst days and i don't think we should define stan davis by those two months of his life. >> reporter: robert livermore is an attorney for department of justice in this case. >> i have worked with the fbi in a lot of cases and it is disheartening personally for me to see an fbi officer, who is working with the fbi, engaged in this type of activity. >> reporter: stan davis was a philadelphia narcotics officer assigned to the fbi task force he was not an fbi agent. through law enforcement sources "eyewitness news" confirmed one of the woman involved with davis rosie fors yth, seen here, authorities say she was driving a car on the pennsylvania turnpike in

chester county that crashed and killed a 90 year-old woman authorities say forsyth was high at the time of the wreck and blew stan davis story wide opened. he is not facing charges relating to the car crash. >> it was not anything that he is responsible for, legally, morally, that was an independent event and that had nothing to do with this. >> reporter: davis will be sentenced for federal drug charges december 8th and could face up to 20 years behind bars. davis spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a statue from the civil war monument in fair mount park disappeared thursday night and new police want to necessity who did it and why. bust of former pennsylvania governor and general james a beaver was later found at an i-95 under pass, city officials don't know if the incident is related to recent controversies about historical monuments adding to the mystery is just how hard this statue is to move, and the bus t weighs several hundred

outfits and jim me now is sharon, who is a breast cancer survivor. thanks for being up with us early this morning. tell us about your story. you have a very inspiring one. >> thanks for having me. i'm the fourth generation of woman in my family hoff been diagnosed with breast cancer, i'm currently living with metastatic breast cancer. i was 34 years old when i was originally diagnosed, at 38, my cancer met has sized and i actually had a doctor told me would i probably not live to see my fourth third birthday and i'm very excited that this weekend i'm actually celebrating with my pink family, my 50th birthday. so it is a pretty momentous occasion for me. >> reporter: congratulations and happy birthday to you, sharon. >> thank you. >> reporter: what message do you have. this is a very difficult thing to go through, very difficult battle, you said being here with your komen family is something that helped you get through that bolt. what is your message to families and others who are

going through breast cancer right now. >> i think most important message is to know that you're really in the alone. when i was originally diagnosed i saw a commercial for susan g komen three day and i just literally finished my last treatment, it was my sister's boy day and as a present i registered by myself and her to walk 60 miles in the three day walk. she was so thrilled when i told her. but, me in this community has given me the strength that i needed to go through, you can share stories with other survivors and you know that you need to be your own advocate and that there are people out there, don't just take one doctor's opinion. know your own body. it became more perfect for me personally this year my daughter, just turned 19, and very courageously has been tested for the genetic brca and she is in a very high risk

category for the disease. it is becoming even more important especially for, organizations like komen which is one of the few organizations that is working with mote static disease which is for if you don't know end stage cancer, those are people are not expect to survive. they are out here we're out here looking for a true cure. we have made such strides in helping early stage and detection finding that ultimate cure for everyone and finding the world with breast cancer is really important but ter with all here for them this week. >> thanks very much. these walkers will begin at 7:00 this morning. you can see they are exciting, eating breakfast behind me. we will be here and bring you latest throughout the morning, jan but get this youngest walker is just 16. oldest is 80. there are all kinds of age is here and we will catch that for you and bring that to you later this morning but for now

and strongest winds are and when this made land fall as a category four last night first time category four has made land fall in the united states since 2004 and that was charlie that made land fall in florida and first time since 1961 that category four has made land fall in texas that was hurricane carla last time that texas got hit with the hurricane this strong. back closer to home not too much going on, on storm scan three for us, it is a quiet, relatively clear start to the day, future weather again not showing too much again today sunshine, we will see a few light showers, get painted in there in south jersey, we will stay dry though for sunday and monday it looks great too. our three day race for the cure we have one day down yesterday, today we will get to 79 degrees, sunny, low humidity day as well, so great day, for day number two for three day race for the cure and even tomorrow we will continue our stretch of really nice weather, sunday, high of 78, still plenty of sunshine's we will call it a beautiful afternoon to say the lee. seven day forecast, again, 79
