back on "eyewitness news" with a huge fire in florida. it happened at lee elementary school in east tampa a area
5:14 am
recovering from hurricane irma the fire reached three alarms, we're told the school is wadley damaged. authorities believe that the flames were sparked when the power came back on in the area this historic building dates back to 1906 named after confederate general robert e lee. one week after hurricane irma turra cross the caribbean saint martin residents say it will be a very long time before things are back to normal there. crew is assessed damage on the dutch/french island yesterday. officials say nearly one-third of all buildings on saint martin were destroyed in the storm. irma slammed the island last wednesday leaving residents to pick up the pieces. >> we are under water right now, especially drinking water we need water to survive. hopefully we pray to god that we get water and electricity can come a little later but water is main thing to survive on, you know. >> irma killed four people and injured dozens of others on the island while nearly 200

people are reportly missing. this morning we have a look at dramatic video as authorities rescued a couple stuck on their sail boat during hurricane irma. this happened just north of palm beach, as irma's outer bands began hitting the coast on sunday. you can see choppy water tossing the boat around. rescuers managed to pull both people to safety. >> we were just trying to figure out how to approach the boat without collide nothing to it orlanding on top of it. >> just grab a hold, pulled her on the boat and second gentlemen we pulled up close and we were able to help him on. when we did we pushed on and john gos us out of there. >> a court to go martin county officials the couple on the boat didn't necessity how to swim. it amazing me, they knew it was coming. people are not bright. >> and then they put the lives of the first responders. >> exactly, rescuers at risk. >> very brave for going out there. so katie, is this affecting our shores up here
5:16 am
though. i noticed the waves. >> not irma, jose. that is the storm bringing some indirect impacts because it is still churning over opened water right now in the atlantic miles away, hundreds of miles away but these big storms can have a big impact and a very broad scope, outside, of where they actually are situated. we will get to that. but lets talk about that remnant moisture from irma. it is on the way. you can see speckles of the green, very light showers, rolling up to the beltway outside d.c. right now. i think primarily we will see any showers here fall around midday, so yeah, umbrella is not the war idea but we are absolutely not talking about a wash out here. if you have outdoor plans you can probably keep them but do i expect you will see showers around mid date but even then they will be scattered in nature. so that is all that is left of irma, it is pretty much at this point a memory, so we can get back to life and start to recover from this across the south east.
5:17 am
here is owe say. it still looks like a relatively impressive category one storm system but look at where computer models take this. important to note, these are models, this is not gospel it is just a general, thought of each and everyone of the different models that we take into account here. now this is an out liar that would take this into florida, that is very likely to not happen but what i worry about is these outer lining won that as the storm recurves itself could this make a relatively close pass to the east coast? it is certainly not a guarantee. it is possible. we will just keep an eye on this, couple days need to unfold before we can get a better handle on where that will head but it is a storm that is expected to make a loop in the next couple days and then head north. so, even though it is still over opened water it is still churning up the surf for eastern seaboard and max sustain wind are like they were yesterday at this same time about 75 miles an hour. so here we go with the

official cone from the not hurricane center, this keeps it out to sea. we will keep our fingers crossed that it does stay that way but we have to keep an eye on it since we have shorelines here in the delaware valley. outside to the river line here and where you are finding some pretty quiet weather. just a lot of cloud currently over center city sky line. it is at lee visible no problems seeing it. we have more cloud to keep the warmth, trapped in here throughout the early morning. we will find a few showers though to day especially tomorrow and then friday, maybe even saturday. so it is still a prolonged pattern but a very minor showery pattern we are having to deal with by comparison. >> good, i'm glad to hear the word minor for sure. thanks very much, katie and a very, good morning to all of you, happy wednesday, guys. we are looking outside at the vine where we talk about that overnight construction on the vine, that is closed on the west and eastbound side we have in the seen that in a little while. same story this morning. vine westbound ande bound no matter where you are traveling
