i'm jessica dean. the philadelphia police major crimes unit is calling this a theft ring and they are searching for at least two suspects tonight. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is live in center city with what police want you to do to protect yourself. >> reporter: jessica, we're told by detectives and the police here that the only way you can prevent yourself from becoming a victim is to go inside and get cash out from a human being, teller but if use your atm, cover up that key pad with your other hand. they can be placed, almost anywhere, and they are not much bigger then a quarter. >> it is something that is always, you know, something to worry about. >> reporter: skimmers are getting smaller and people installing them getting more creative and making the device s blend into their surroundings. >> it will be the same color, everything. you will never know the difference. >> reporter: doctor ooland lead from the philadelphia major crimes unit is showing off latest devices recovered from two locations in the city >> you go right to the atm machine, a person not

suspecting, it is part of the rolling equipment. >> reporter: this skimmer installed, employees at this univest bank on rhawn street in the fox chase section of the city confirmed one was installed in the exterior atm. another discovered at a bank on morehead street in willow grove. the suspect may be part of the larger ring, but beside the fox chase and morehead street skimmers, abington police are looking for this man who targeted a citizens bank in their township. >> nowadays you just cannot be afraid, you know, equifax last week and all of the skimming devices and all of stuff like that definitely thinking bit. >> reporter: what can do you to protect yourself. captain lee says contact police and your bank if you noticed an authorized atm withdraws and whenever you are at any atm. >> do a quick sweep, make sure everything is legitimate and when i put my code in. >> cover, cover, and then type in your opinion opinion. >> reporter: even those around you. >> yep, yes, exactly because you never know. >> reporter: beside those skimming devices investigators

stay north of the most of the major island here but will get in on the strong wind, and threat forstrom surge here. you can see that storm lifting to the north and to the west. good news, it is not impacting florida and should stay away from the bohamas, areas that had damage from irma. hurricane maria is still a major hurricane, category three at this moment, just north off the coast of the dominican republic here. winds sustained at 120 miles an hour, it is moving northwest at 9 miles an hour which takes it just north, again, of the turks and caicos and off to the north it goes where it will gradually weaken thanks to jose causing upwelling of the cold water in the north atlantic. once it runs in the cool water it will weaken. we cannot rule out a turn further to the west but most models start to take this storm out to sea next week. we will have those hurricane models and local forecast in just a few minutes, jessica. >> thanks, kate. authorities now say 273 people are feared dead, following the powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake, in

mexico. rescuers, and bucket brigades cleared mountains of debris for a third day in an effort to reach people burr aid live in mexico city. today, authorities said there are no missing children at the glass elementary school, where rescuers were searching for a girl they believed to be trapped, mexican officials say assistance is pouring in from the international community. and in our region they are doing its part to help earthquake victims. >> natasha brown reports an on line effort to raise money for relief efforts is really taking off. >> it is currently at $34 million. >> reporter: said rodriguez is amazed how quickly a go fund me page has grown in support of the devastation caused by catastrophic 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit mexico city. he and other international students from mexico attending college at the university of pennsylvania, set up the fund raising effort that they have dubbed this one is for mexico. they far exceeded their goal of $10,000, in just a day and a half.

competitors went at it, brick by brick hoping to earn title of pennsylvania's best bricklayer. >> three, two, one, go. >> reporter: for 45 minutes, seven of the best bricklayers around went head to head in the annual bricklayer 500. >> it is the famous competition we try to build a wall in the certain amount of time to certain specification just like on a job site. >> reporter: during this turbo charged competition they used concrete to stack 3500 bricks in an effort to build the most salable wall. >> it has to be built to specification where you get deductions on your wall. >> reporter: that means for many of these guys the need for speed has to take a back seat to skill, precision but that does not mean they are holding anything else back. >> i have been looking for to this for six months. >> feels good. i love laying broke and i love competing. >> reporter: winner of this competition gets a thousand dollars cash, trip to vegas to compete in the national competition and rights to say they are the best bricklayer

forecast. it is a fiery kind of day out there as well. it is warm. temperatures got in the upper 80's today. we should be in the mid 70's. even if you like it warm, summery you may miss out on that crisp september weather, we normally get this time of the year, but it will come eventually just not in this seven day forecast. here's a look outside, taking you on tout storm scan three. we are showing you a few high cloud, drifting in, thanks to tropical storm jose, and then again, jose will not go away. jose still is a tropical storm , still sitting, just about stationary, just south, east of cape cod and you can see cloud around that system still impacting our area notice swirl of cloud with jose right now, and there it is, still producing showers again over cape cod, martha's vineyard, nantucket. they are backing to the west, and may get close enough to bring a stray sprinkle to the shore points over next couple of days but more likely just a few cloud along the coast. we are looking at mostly sunny conditions. jose still a tropical storm. winds right now sustained at

50 miles an hour, it is stationary, not really moving at all. you can see over next several days it will not move. it will sit, spin in the circle right through the weekend. here's the good news, though. it is churning up water, bringing cold water to the surface. is there a cool puddle of water here that maria will head into and eventually will weaken and hopefully we will see circulation around jose help to steer maria out to sea we want jose to stick around for a few more days because it is berth than alternative. future weather shows that system sitting, spin go through the end of the week, notice a few more cloud close to the coast, tomorrow, so maybe a few cloud, if you are at the shore further inland where we're mostly sunny, most of the showers will stay away us from and then there we go heading in to saturday with still jose spinning off the coast, not great weather for the southeastern new england beaches but for us, should be far enough away not to impact us adversity too much. still mild. temperatures in the 80's. seventy-four mount pocono. cooler in wildwood with an on shore flow.

but hurricane marie, here's this path, it is just north of the dominican republic, heading to brush the turks and caicos as we head into tonight you can see these models, mostly steering these out to sea. there are a couple that bring it closer to the coast, and it all depend on how much, and we will keep you posted on. that as of right now vast majority of the models saying that is not a huge threat, still cannot rule it out. overnight mainly clear, mild, pleasant at 67 degrees. tomorrow it is warm, sunny, fall begins on a very warm note, fall officially beginning right at about 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon. 4:02 p.m. start of autumn tomorrow. you're witness weather seven day forecast doesn't have much fall in it. we're hot. it will get hotter. sunday and monday near 90 degrees and the humidity ramps up as well. we are looking like long range by end of the next week we will see more seasonal fall temperatures but for now enjoy the heat. >> it is here, thanks, kate. >> leslie's up next with sports. >> phillies this close to sweeping one of the best teams
