upper -- opener at the linc t does come with some controversy after comment made by president trump lead to an uproar with the nfl and some of the nation's top athletes. it is hot first few days every fall, right? climbing into record territory , when the temperature could even hit 90 degrees. today is sunday, september , everyone, i'm jan carabeo. let's get right over to the eyewitness weather forecast, here's meteorologist, chills i ingram, with eyewitness weather. good sunday morning, chelsey. another hot one on tap today. >> i know, not going to feel like fall, that's for sure. and temperatures will be soaring, as we head into this afternoon. let's start you off, with a live look, at beach patrol headquarters, in margate. this is likely going to be -- i expect to see ton of people on the sand, because it will be simply gorgeous beach day. the one thing you have to be aware of, high risk of rip current, even though it will look absolutely stunning, we'll have the risk throughout the day today, down the shore, even for our delaware beaches.

it is 71 degrees right now, in philadelphia. sixty-eight in millville, down the shore, in the mid 60s, atlantic city at 66, six an in wildwood. six an in allentown, right around 69 degrees in mount pocono. yes, it is the home opener. i'm forecasting kick off temperature right around 87 degrees. but as we head into the latter part of the game, those numbers will be soaring to around 90 here in philadelphia as it turns unseasonably hot, going to be another warm one, down the shore, with a high of 80, then in the poconos, high temperature right around 3 degrees -- 83 degrees, the records to beat today, 95, bark in 1970, hi, around 90. going to near record highs tomorrow. i'll let you know when we cool down coming up in your full forecast in just a bit. for now, jan, back to you. >> chelsey, thank you. excitement is building for eagles fans this morning. as the birds get ready to take on the giants, in today's home opener. but, the match is not the only

national anthem in protest. and just about an hour ago, trump tweeted this, quote, if nnfl fans refuse to go to games until fans stop disrespecting our flag and country you will see change take place fast. fire or suspends. here is 11 eagles fan had to say in response. >> americans will do what they want to do. they're right. i don't care. as long as they ain't causing trouble. doesn't matter. >> now, in response to some of trump's recent comments, eagles ceo jeff lurie put out this statement saying, quote, having spoke win our players, i can a test to the great respect they have for the national anthem, and all it represent. we at the philadelphia eagles firmly believe that in this difficult time of division and conflict, more important than ever for football to be a great unify err. now back out live here at the linc, you can see, one every these fans, wearing a t-shirt shirt that says i stand for the national anthem. so there is just a mix of

the two men started firing rounds at police in the area allegedly unprovoked. officers did return fire, but were told no one has been injured. both of the men got away after that exchange. now, police won't confirm if the suspect are in custody, how much, they tell us, they're not looking for any suspect right now. police also responded to gunfire in center city this morning. officers in the area heard those gunshot, coming from the 1300 block of chancellor street. we're told the shots were not directed at police. but they were close by, no one was injured. and a woman is hospitalized this morning, after she was shot in east germantown. this shooting happened right around midnight, along the 5600 block of soaks street. police tell us she was shot in her left thigh. she is now in stable condition so far no word on any arrests. and in other news today, rescue effort continue in mexico this weekend, even as resident were rattled once again by a magnitude 6.1 after shock on saturday.

right now, the death toll from last week's earthquake stands at 307. manuel with the latest from mexico city. >> series of after shocks sent people once again running into the streets. and search and rescue crews evacuating already unsteady mounds every debris. closer to the epi-center the 6.1 magnitude quake brought down this bridge, near wah a/k/a. once the grounds stopped shaking, crews returned to what's left of six story offers building in mexico city , where more than 40 people were listed as missing. maria has been camped out here since wednesday. her cousin, ivan, accountant, was working on the four floor of this building when the quake hit. >> well the window that they found people on the fourth floor, i think that they found like two different groups. and that some of them like they showed they're like -- >> there are signs of life?

>> uh-huh. so we are like hoping to be one of those. >> part of the city are trying to reopen to business leading to tensions, as officer tried to reopen busy boulevard, searches and families members who wanted silence protested. still hoping to hear sounds from possible survivors, under the rubble. the number of people rescued from collapsed buildings like this one has reached nearly 70 but as the days go on, the hope of finding other diminish , still, crews continue to search. manuel, cbs news, mexico city. meantime this morning, puerto rican leaders are warning people about a dam at risk of collapsing there. the dam is in wataka northeast part of the island. the spillway is easing pressure on that d.a. m but at one point about 70,000 people who live downstream had been ordered to leave. the dam became compromised after flooding from hurricane maria. the storm now being blamed for

at least ten deaths there, in puerto rico alone. people there are still without power, as well. the tough talk between president trump and north korean leaders continues. overnight, president trump called kim jong un little rocket man on twitter. yesterday us air force bombers escorted by fighter jets flew into air space just east of north korea. pentagon calls the flight the show of force. they say the flight demonstrates the range every military options available to the us and president trump. the planes flew farther north of the demilitarized zone than any other us fighters have since 2,000. to the middle east now, iran says its successfully tested new balistic missile. eye rain iranian leaders say it can carry several warheads. state runnemede ya, and the weapon on display during military parade on friday. now the missile would be able to reach as far as israel, and saudi arabia. around president says his country will move forward with

officers say a man was run down, in the intersection of broad and glenwood avenue, around 1:00 yesterday morning. he was returned to the hospital where he later died. that investigation is still ongoing. >> firefighters, responded to hazmat situation in wilmington and officials say, 18 workers at the dupont experimental station were possibly exposed to an unknown substance. "eyewitness news" on powder mill road yesterday morning, the workers went through a de- contamination process, and were taken to the hospital. officials say none of them were seriously injured. it has been four weeks now since hurricane harvey made landfall in the houston area. as category four storm. and it quickly became the largest flooding event in north american history and recovery has been slow. courtney spoke with one local resident. the local residents there were are finding it hard to stay houston strong. >> reporter: michelle has a

tech texas size problem, sitting on her front lawn. >> it is not acceptable. i mean, we are trying to move forward as a city. and this to me causes a health hazard. >> reporter: one month after harvey hit, and three weeks after she cleared out her home , she still is looking at mountains every molding memory , and complete with horseflies, and constant smell of mildew. >> harris county judge is helping lead recovery effort in southeast texas. >> even if 90% of it is pick up at some point, if you're still in that 10%, you're not happy. and i understand that. >> household debris, ends up in largest piles than this one they say trucks have only removed about 5% of harvey's wreckage. in southeast texas, close to 800,000 people have applied for fema assistance, the agency has already paid out more than $570 million, to individuals, the insurance council affected estimates there are about a quarter million flooded cars and trucks, insurance companies have already taken care of a

billion dollars worth in claims, and that number is expected to triple, on top of that, at least, 2,000 people remain in shelters. and some schools have not yet started. local officials say, they're looking at revamp olds floodplain maps to make sure this doesn't happen again. >> we have to make sure people no longer build in areas that are subject to flooding. >> for michelle, she can't even think about the future, until the past is harder to way. and that could take six months courtney, for cbs news, houston. back here at home now, it seems relatively quiet. but we do have to consider maria still churning offer the coast. >> that's right. the latest track from maria from the nash hal hurricane center coming up. but something we're keeping our a ion, active hurricane season, my goodness, but very quiet start to the day here, a live look, at boardwalk plaza, in rehoboth. there is plenty of people already out there this morning , getting their

exercise in early during the day, because it is going to heat up very quickly later on this afternoon. i just know that sand will be filled up with people enjoying the sunshine, soaking up nice beach day, but be aware, do have high risk every rip current. here is a live look, now, at center city, just look at the abundant blue skies, we'll see that, also, from the shore to the poconos across the region today, and right now around 72 , still in the 60s, in many areas, across the tri-state region. sixty-nine in millville. mid 60s down the shore wildwood, 66 atlantic city, yes, six an in allentown, 69 mount pocono. mid 60s for lancaster, also reading right around 65 degrees. so, dew points will be in check today. humidity overall not that bad. dealing with the heat. at least we don't have that oppressive humidity. that's going to change, though , as we head into the next several days. by monday, we have the steam factor returning back to the forecast, then it will feel down right uncomfortable as we head into tuesday, have that

combination every both heat, humidity, that will make it feel oppressive at times and very uncomfortable out there. big picture on storm scan3, shows not much every anything going on across the eastern portion of the united state. we have high pressure in control, jet stream pushed well up to the north, helping to filter in all of the warm temperatures, that we are going to be enjoying if you like the warm weather. perhaps maybe ready for some fall weather. i have some of that coming for you, too that's all thanks to this system out to the west. but it won't be impacting us until later on this week. meanwhile, also tracking hurricane maria, located well off off the coast of the southeastern united state. and here is the latest updates from the national hurricane center, category two storm. winds of around 110 miles per hour. the latest update moving to the north at nine. it will come uncomfortably close to the outer banks of north carolina before taking a turn out to sea. and it will be that cold front that swings through later this

week, that helps pick maria out to sea, the so right here for the tri-state area, for the delaware valley, just going to be dealing with, i think, mainly coastal impact, see that rough surf and also the high risk of rip current, that's going to be pretty serious, as we head into the latter part of this week. also, high risk for rip currents, throughout the day today, as i mention, so even though it will be an absolutely stunning beach day, the just be aware, because the water can be extremely dangerous, on the sands, temperatures in the low, mid 80s, also very high uv index today. here is your forecast, 90 degrees, unseasonably hot, significantly above average for this time of year. but wall to wall sunshine out there. then tonight mostly clear, quiet, mild, overnight low temperature right around 70 degrees, your eyewitness weather seven day forecast, looks like this, 89 degrees monday. eighty-six tuesday. eighty-eight wednesday. and if the summer like weather isn't for you, well i got some fall like weather in the forecast just in time for next weekend. jan, back to you. >> got little something for

everyone, thank you, chelsey. time now 8:17. and time to check the roads. let's go over to amanda mueller in the cbs-3 traffic center. hi, amanda. >> hi, jan, still following an accident that happened last hour near lansdowne west oaklane between route 13 and mcdade boulevard. this is affecting traffic in both directions, and traffic is being diverted, as you can see, starting to cause backups in several roadways throughout the area. you can use clifton avenue, or west ash lands avenue as your alternate. to avoid this accident. and turning now to bucks county, we are taking live look at route one southbound at i-95. this road work here might cause some headaches for drivers specially as we get later in the day. we start seeing more volume on the roadways. right now not looking too problematicment be ready to slow down. left lane closed there. and taking a live look at the vine. that's running along at speed. as well as the rest of your majors including 95, 76, 202, 30, and the turnpike. in the cbs-3 traffic center ment i'm amanda mueller. >> thank you so much.

this morning, cyclists continue to ride for a good cause, and it is a good morning for it. the 38th annual bike ms ride continues today. thousands every cyclists actually began yesterday, it was a fundraising minimum for the ride, and all proceeds benefit the national multiple sclerosis society. >> it can affect the way you walk t can affect the way you see it. can even affect the way you think and you just don't know what's going to happen next. none of the current treatments reverse the damage already done. and none of them actually stop the disease, and that's what we want to do. we want to stop ms in its tracks. >> this weekend in total riders actually raised $6 million for the national ms society. >> good for them. >> well, kids with cancer fortunately it is rare and almost unheard of for teenager to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, but it did happen to a little girl from bucks county. health reporter stephanie stahl has her incredible story of survival.

>> happy to be back in school. it is not what you normally hear from a 14 year old. but, this ninth grader has a special kind of determination. when she was 11, page, was diagnosed when ovarian cancer. >> it was crazy. i just like couldn't believe it. like they told me it was rare and might grow. like i kind of felt special at the same time, like i was like blown away. >> her symptoms, no appetite, fatigue, were vague. typical with ovarian cancer, which is rare in children. >> her mom new doctors were wrong when they kept insisting it was just constipation. when the ovarian cancer was finally confirmed, it was just i couldn't even believe it. i kept thinking we've got to be dreaming. >> it was a nightmare. page had surgery and chemo and doctors said her eggs couldn't be saved. so she'll never be able to have biological children. >> i told the doctors, i want her alive. we will worry about her having babies another time. and when i told hershey said well, we'll adopt.

>> very large fire broke out at building in south philadelphia earlier today. this is near water and morris streets, take a look at this, huge flames, shooting from the roof. now, firefighters battled that blaze, for just about an hour, before placing it under control. snow one withouts hurt. >> three alarm fire being smoke. i scene, tullytown yesterday morning thousand dollars arrived to find it engulfed in flames. fire burned for three hours before firefighters were able to bring it under control. the cause of this fire, still under investigation. >> authorities in delaware have determined that a fire that destroyed a new castle county home was intensely set. michael williams, of wilmington, has been arrested and charged with arson in connection to that fire. now, the flames there, broke out, at a home on saratoga drive in bear early yesterday morning, and by the time fire

crews were able to put that fire out, it had caused roughly $200,000 in damage. in addition to arson, williams is charged with wreckless endangerment, and wearing disguise during commission after felony. >> after shock took the country yesterday. rescuers, to flee from debris there, where they were doing search and rescue efforts, so far, the earthquake is being blamed for at least 300 deaths , in mexico, more than half of those deaths were mexico city, and part of the city are starting to return to normal, as businesses reopen. >> a dam in may collapse, still way easing pressure on the dam, it became compromised after flooding from hurricane maria, at one point about 70,000 people down street from

another busy show today. we start with colorado row public can gardner, talk about the healthcare bill that's making a last trip through the senate. republicans have one week to get it passed. already two republicans who say they won't support it that mean republicans in the senate cannot affords another defection from the runnings, will talk to senator gardner about his position on the bill whether he's for or against it also conversation about the legislation, what it means, with maine republican susan collins, she voted against the last republican replacement for the affordable care act. where is she on this one then talk with senator gardner, this week of course more escalating rhetoric, new sanctions from the united states on north korea, and senator gardner on the foreign relations committee has been working on sanctions against north korea for a long time, how does he think this will work out? the us wants to get to the negotiating table but certainly doesn't seem like that's in the offering.
