storm scan at a regional zoom. we have maria upgraded again to a category one hurricane so it's kind of gone back and forth waffling between whether it wants to be a tropical storm or a hurricane and it really has been a matter of about 5 miles per hour with its maximum sustained winds speeds. that's a really led to the categorization. the leading edge of the showers will getting closer to the delmarva peninsula and south jersey. we're like to end up with a band of should yours that comes through here. we have a cold front that's going to cross through, somewhat moisture starved from illinois north and east but even though it's not going to bring much wet whether it definitely brings about some cold air. it will make up for it with that. here's where we stand technically on the thermometer right now. 85 is the warm midwest spot of the pack out in wilmington we're at 83 in philly likely to tack another 4 degrees onto that. you can see where this front has marched east from yesterday but where this front is crossing through you're

anywhere from the mid 60's to upper 60's at best now in saint louis, in chicago. the same time yesterday you were in the upper 80's but you're still holding tough in the 80's east of that. with time some of those conditions are going to be our story. not just the thermometer readings but the humidity starts to drop off so you go from pretty oppressive steaminess out there right now to much more comfortable more crisp air. what you would expect this time of year starting tomorrow and that will last into the upcoming week. let's quickly talk about the wet weather chances though. do you need an umbrella? probably not but notice when some of these showers get under way, there's a possibility they pack a punch and bring in maybe a locally steady downpour. so i don't think you're talking more than maybe an hour or two worth of this wet weather. this is 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and then it fizzles away but it may be out there as the kids are getting home from school as you're getting ready to pick them up so it could mess with your afternoon travels in a minor way. here's the hurricane though. max sustained wind of 75 miles per hour to categorize it as a

cat one storm but it's still going to make that sharp right-hand turn and go completely out to scene bypass canada. north america is spared at this point forward from that storm system. meanwhile outside beach patrol headquarters yeah it looks a little choppy doesn't it and it's going to stay that way right through the rest of the work week. we'll need maria to really get far out to sea before this doesn't become an issue anymore so my advice again is stay on dry land. we have some very fall-like conditions coming up though by the time that front crosses through, boy, you're going to notice the breeze tomorrow. it really is a nice looking day all in all, back to sunshine, 76 the high and then we have somewhat of a struggle to even get to the low 70's friday, saturday and sunday. reinforcing cool air comes along on saturday. that's why it's the cool left day and that's why we could see a shower or two but overall it looks like a pretty good weekend generally speaking. >> all right. >> sounds good. thanks katie. >> a small moment makes a big impact in a boy battling cancer.
