meteorologist matt peterson with eyewitness weather, good saturday morning, matt, down right should i say chill think morning. >> it is safe to say that it is chilly for sure. i know that, you know, you want those warm temperatures. >> you know i have dealt witt. i know summer's over. so i will enjoy fall. it will be beautiful today. >> wonderful. any outdoor plans you have, maybe to do apple picking, go to the pumpkin patch or get outside and enjoy this fall weather we have been waiting for after we did have late season heat, through much of the last week, you are in store for just a wonderful afternoon. we have had a front coming through last night our second of two, in about two days this one not really packing too much punch. first cold front came through 24 hours or so, that didn't have a problem with us either but we did have a couple light showers. you can see here on storm scan 3a couple light showers a few hours ago pushing off the coast line. right now we are dry, we are relatively clear, maybe a few

high cloud, are here or there but what we will be watching for is a low is still off to the north and we will get wrap around chances for precipitation later this afternoon but overall it is going to be a dry, day across the area check out these temperatures this morning, 50 's for many of us, dipping down in the 40's in mount pocono, we will wake up to 59, right now here in philadelphia , it is still 62 in wildwood but overall these temperatures are on the cooler side. winds in the five to 10-mile an hour range, coming from the north this afternoon gusting to maybe as high as 25 to 30 miles an hour. it will be a breezy, cool afternoon, 58 degrees right around 9:00 this morning. grab that jacket heading out around lunchtime 62 and 65 for our high temperature today, jan even i have to say it is on the cooler side, we will talk about when we warm things back up in a bit. >> thanks, matt. developing this morning a six year-old boy is hospitalized after he was hit by a stray bullet in north philadelphia. anita oh joins us live this morning from st. christopher's hospital where that little boy is now being treated, anita, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jan well, that little boy is luckily expected to be okay, as you mentioned here at st. christopher's hospital now in stable condition, although last night he had been at temple university hospital, in critical condition. now take a look at this video you can see that scene at 24th and norris street, this happened around 8:00 last night. the little boy was a innocent bystander standing on the street corner outside of his home with his father and brother. police say that the shots came from about a block away on 24th and diamond streets, hitting the little boy in the left shoulder, chief inspector scott small of the philadelphia police described who they are looking for. >> six years old. even though he was with his father and brother he got shot he felt the pain. he ran in his house. family members tend todd him. only description we have of our shooter is a male wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt or

dark colored clothing. >> reporter: and investigators, of course, are combing through surveillance video in the area hoping to get a better look at this suspect, but if you know anything call the police, live from north philadelphia, i'm anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you, we will get back to you later this morning. new this morning gunfire in east germantown leaves one man injured, the shooting happened at germantown and east ab on theford avenue just after 1:00 this morning. a 20 year-old man was rush to the hospital with gunshot wound to his head and leg and he is in critical condition. so far police have made no arrests. also in this morning, a man is rushed to the hospital after he is gunned down in olde city, this shooting, happened around 2:00 this morning, in the 300 block of north waters street, just off of north christopher columbus boulevard, we are told victim was shot in the neck, shoulder as he sat inside of his car and he is in critical condition, the cause of this

shooting is under investigation. meantime police in colorado give the all clear this morning after a report of an active shooter at the u.s. air force academy. authorities say that the academy was placed on lock down around 10:00 o'clock last night and text messages were sent to air men warning them of the incident. now following a sweep of the dorms there, law enforcement confirmed early this morning that there was no active shooter and no one was injured officials are investigating the origin of the reports. now, to the latest on the crisis in puerto rico following hurricane maria a navy hospital shop is on its way to, puerto rico this morning, the comfort is carrying 522 medical personnel and is loaded with medical supplies, meantime, there are signs of progress there, phone services is back for about 30 percent of the island and nearly half of all of the super markets there have reopened, however, there are still long lines for basic necessities, including gas. and more danger is on the

horizon as we already battered island braces for more rain, "eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves spent the day in central puerto rico surveying the conditions there. >> reporter: storm cloud are rolling into puerto rico the island is now under a flash flood watch, the last thing it need right now, so many are still reeling from the aftermath of hurricane maria. >> it is scary. i just dove. everything out. >> reporter: stove blew out of the house. >> reporter: thirty minutes south of the san juan in cagu as, he told us how hurricane maria ripped his home apart and 10 days after she devastated and decimated this city, told us how he is struggling to survive. it takes him eight hours to get $20 worth of gas to power a generator for his family. he doesn't have time nor energy to get water so he, draws from it this hose even though he is not sure it is safe. driving through thinks this is one of the lines we have seen for water.

the line is at least the length of a football field and took us exactly one minute and 382nd to the front but people here are waiting for hours, only to find out that when they get up here there is no more water or ice. >> it is something like is unbelievable. >> reporter: joe, waited in line for seven hours like so many and says only thing getting him through is faith. >> we have problems but god is with us, that is only way. >> reporter: to give you an idea how suffering here is so closely connected to our viewing area, every where we have been we have found people , with family, worried about them in the greater philadelphia area. in fact, that is the case for both wilfredo bow knee a and lopez, he has not been able to reach his in berks county and he is hoping they see this. >> it is hard here but we are still living. >> reporter: getting messages like that out are a big reason why we are in puerto rico. so many are connect to those

on this island in, fact, new jersey and pennsylvania and have third and fourth largest puerto rican population direct connections to those here. we are doing our goes get information back to them, hopefully more messages n puerto rico alycia nieves for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". in other news a big announcement from the phillies on friday, pete mackanin will not return as manager next season but he will have a new role with the team, phillies gm matt klentak told mackanin he wants to keep him on as an advisor. klentak says he felt the time for a change was right now and talked about what he wants to see in the new lead over the team next season. >> a lot of characteristics in our next manager that i hope, they will possess that pete does as well but, you know, again i think it is about, you know, finding a connection with the team and with the players and leading us into the future. >> i have always felt if you have people who you consider

am officially tendering my resignation. the move comes after mounting criticism over his use of pricey charter flights, paid for with taxpayer money. >> all of these trips were official business, all of them were within budget. >> reporter: price's relationship with the president was already strained orthopedic surgeon before and turned politics he played a big role in the failed attempt to repeal obama care. >> by the way, will you get votes, otherwise i'll say tom, you are fired. >> reporter: other cabinet members are being questioned about their spending including steve mnuchin, epa administrator scott pruitt and interior secretary ryan zinke. >> question remains are these official there is to protect american people and taxpayer. >> reporter: white house announce aid new travel policy on friday from now on, government owned, rented or leased or chartered planes will have to be approved by chief of staff john kelly, weijia jiang for cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

a huge scare right outside new york pen station at the height of the rush hound on friday. a van crashes in the crowd of people, three of them were hurt. >> people were screaming. >> everybody was in a panic. >> video shows he comes to a complete stop at 37th street and seventh avenue, shortly thereafter the van moves forward. he then strikes three pedestrians in the crosswalk and he continues where he comes to a stop here at 31st and seventh avenue. >> the 68 year-old driver told police floor math got stuck

and that is why van accelerated hitting man and two women. those three will be okay and police ruled it an accident and the driver will not face any charges. well, we have dramatic new video this morning, one of the rock falls at yesemite national park, lets take a look at this, this view was courtesy of hike's above the rocks, one person was killed and two people were injured in rock falls, both wednesday and thursday, and a geological analysis find that is there is no more danger then usual, of another rock fall. incredible video. well, back here at home indeed and turning to weather now some beautiful weather on tap this weekend. >> fantastic. now, i know some folks like warmer weather, people were soaking up those rays, you are one of them. >> i am about as you said are you ready toternity page. >> i'm switching over to fall, i love all of the fall-like activities. so lets get to them. >> it is getting outside, doing the apple thing and doing those fun, outdoor activities and wearing your

sweat shirt while you are doing it. if you are planning on getting outside today, take the sweat shirt with you because it will be chilly but it is going to be a nice, fall, day, across the board, outside, right now not a whole lot going on this is our neighborhood network looking at rehoboth boardwalk not a soul out there trying to soak up maybe some of the early morning cool weather, but it is going to be not a bad beach day, but maybe not the greatest beach day because temperatures today will be on the lower side of things. so if you are outside on the sand take the sweat shirt with you. this is what we have for a high temperature today only 65 . that is our forecasted high, that is definitely below average. typical temperatures this time of the year is 72. our morning low temperature 57 , not all that off from our normal low. so seasonally warm, we will call it but definitely below average this afternoon with a mixture of sun and cloud to go witt n general we are looking for clear conditions here in the morning, and then cloud cover, does come in at times

through the afternoon. it will not be an overcast day but we will have a little bit of cloud cover mixing with that sunshine, cool for early fall, we will get to 65 degrees. it will be breezy. we could look for wind gust as cross the area of 25 to even 30 miles an hour because we are on the back side of the area of low pressure that came through the overnight hours, cold front still slowly working its way across the region here this morning. storm scan three will take you down in the tropics. you see puerto rico bracing for more rain like we have talked about here this morning this is not a tropical system but just area have on thunderstorm activity but those folks in san january and across the entire ireland do not need anymore precipitation at this point. looking back closer to the continental u.s. here you can see a spin in the gulf of mexico. that is, an area that we are looking at when it comes to tropical development, right now it doesn't look like we will see any tropical develop ment with that area of shower and thunderstorm activity. we have more thunderstorms for

florida peninsula through the day-to-day. further north you see is what left of maria still technically a tropical storm but continues to slide further and further away from the eastern seaboard, that is good news for us but is what also good news as it moves away it means that the rip current risk down the shore points is going to be on the lower side. is there an area of low pressure to our north, spiraling there giving some showers and thunderstorms through the upstate part of new york, now this precipitation could wrap around as we go through the afternoon hours and that is why we have a chance as you see here on future weather for spotty showers in the afternoon and sun and cloud as well night wash out. don't worry about canceling your afternoon plans. it is not anything like. that as we get in the early morning hours on sunday we will see that low gets further out of the region, clearing skies on sunday and that theme runs early into next week too. we will see monday morning looking comfortable. heading down to the temple game today 62 degrees for our kick off against houston but grab the jacket, it is breezy, wind around 25 miles an hour.

we will get to 65 later this afternoon. you're witness weather seven day forecast, 70 tomorrow. seventy-four on monday. jan, we will continue that warming trend it looks like all the way through the week, we will above average by wednesday, thursday but no 80 's in the forecast. >> still looks beautiful, whole lot of sun, thanks, matt 5:19. many student athletes are back on the field and now the american academy of pediatrics is issuing new guidelines for them. health reporter stephanie stahl explains how they are designed to keep athletes healthy and safe. >> is there a couple different infections diseases we can never see including mrsa, herpes, athletes foot. >> reporter: that is why athletic train anise and other mats in this new jersey high school are always wiped clean if we don't take proper precaution ifs we skip steps we will see athletes, who will have infection that is could possibly last them for the rest of their life.

>> reporter: new report from the american academy of pediatrics offers new guidelines to prevent spread of the infectious disease's monk student athletes and treat them appropriately. >> we want to bring focus to the doctor to the office, the athlete, parents and to the people running sporting events >> reporter: infections are especially common in close contact sports like football and wrestling if they are not going home and showering after practice or if they are not washing their work out clothes then those are the things that are going to spread infections >> reporter: doctors say about 10 to 15 percent of injuries that side line college athlete s are related to infectious diseases. student athletes can help protect themselves by wiping down equipment before and after every use, and, never sharing personal items like water bottles or towels. i'm stephanie stahl for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". always good advice. still ahead here on cbs-3 we will take you behind the scenes of is what new in theaters this weekend. i'm kevin frazier coming

good morning, i'm jan carabao as you head out the door this morning make sure you grab a jacket, it is cool out there, meteorologist matt peterson is live on the sky deck this morning with eyewitness weather good morning, matt, i see you took your note and grabbed your vest. >> you have to put something on this morning, it is definitely cool, it will be a day like this all afternoon, we will be looking for temperatures that are below average, we will see a very, very, fall-like forecast for this saturday, definitely different then what we have for a majority of our workweek

where we had temperatures up above average, as i said we are staying cool on our saturday, temperatures will be only peeking in the mid 60's, so that is a little bit cooler then we might expect for the end of september, beginning of october, now a couple of spotty showers are not completely ruled out either. there is low pressure that pulled through last night with the cold front that is spiraling off to the north so a little bit of wrap around precipitation later this afternoon in the completely ruled out and not a wash out and not anything that you need to be overly concerned without door plans. bigger thing is you need to be concerned with is taking that jacket with you. it will be warmer and sunny for our sunday. temperatures tomorrow closer to what we might expect for the beginning of the october. storm scan three shows us light precipitation, a couple hours ago still pulling through, south jersey, overall right now we are looking at generally clear skies, and we will watch for a few cloud to roll role in later this afternoon but again right now we are looking generally quiet and clear. here are temperatures we are in the 50's, some 40's further

north we will wake up to 59 degrees in philadelphia winds will be out of the north later this afternoon gusting to 20 to 25 miles an hour, be prepared for that because as you step outside it will be a gusty afternoon. we will top it out at 65 this afternoon, jan and we will get warmer on sunday and then that warming trend continues into next week and we will tell but it when i come back inside. >> i like it, thank you matt. hunt for a gunman is on after a six year-old boy is struck by a stray bullet in north philadelphia. the shooting happened just before 8:00 o'clock last night on the corner of 24th and norris street, police tell us that the boy was standing outside with his father and his brother when he was shot once in the shoulder. he was rush to the hospital in critical condition, but was later upgraded to stable condition. police believe that shot came from a block away at 24th and diamond streets. in puerto rico now aid is finally being distributed to those in need on the hurricane battered island, but as cbs

david begnot reports it is even slower going in more rural areas where residents there are getting desperate. >> reporter: in a place surrounded by water, people, in this area desperately looking for a drop to drink. some student patiently at fresh water jug, hoping to get enough for today. many more cast their buckets here. >> at 8:00 a.m. friday morning young children started lining up with their parents to get food. everyone was given a bag were four bottles of water and a few snacks that the mayor says has to last them two days. marie stood in line for hours, she left were four, 16-ounce bottles. how badly did you need this water. >> for my baby, granddaughter, i have two more little girls at home she says. mayor carlos menendez is begging for more. >> this is an emergency for god sake. >> reporter: many road are still impassable and u.s.

pistol whipped in his face. we are told the suspects made off with several hundred dollars in cash and anyone with any information is asked to contact the police. in fishtown now where real estate agent is facing murder charges in the shooting death of the man in fishtown on wednesday morning. investigators say jeanette way field shot and killed a three three-year old man outside her montgomery avenue apartment. there is no word that led to that shooting. prosecutors filed murder charges in the death of the pharmaceutical executive in upper makefield bucks county. three three-year old jennifer morrissey is accused of shooting michael mcnew after an argument at his river road house august 6th, police arrested morecy following discovery of quote text message threats that she allegedly wrote, district attorney matthew weintraub recounted one of those message s. >> get the gun ready because i'm coming.

i already told you i will there been tonight. guess you will just to have shoot me. you have a choice, touch my stuff or i cut your throat. >> morrissey is now being held , without bail. a judge in camden county has sentenced david creato junior to 10 years in prison for causing the death of his toddler son, creato pleaded guilty to manslaughter as part of the plea deal in the death of three-year old brendan creato, and now earlier this year prosecutors were unable to secure a guilty verdict on murder charges and trial ended in a hung jury. ten year sentence creato received could be reduced to eight and a half. if he makes parole and do the time served the 20 year-old, the 24 year-old could be released by the time he is 30. now to the controversy over renaming of the philadelphia's 30th street station. community leaders are demanding amtrak abide by federal law, and rename it after late pennsylvania congressman, bill gray, "eyewitness news" reporter

alexandria hoff has the details. >> this iconic building is a confluence of the rich and poor, black and white. >> reporter: with all it offers, 30th street station has the wrong name, according to official whose rallied there. >> anyone in this city, in this space, in this country, that this station deserved to be named it is william herbert gray the third. >> reporter: late congressman william h gray the third served the second district from 1979 to 1991. >> he is first african-american to serve as the house budget committee and house majority whip. >> reporter: year after his passing in 2013, congress passed a bill. >> here it is by the way. >> reporter: senator casey was a sign their read 30th street station in philadelphia. >> shall be known, and designated as the william h gray 30th street station, that is what it says. >> reporter: three years later the name has not been changed.

when american restaurants go global it seems brits are the most enthusiastic diners. as cbs correspondent jane ferguson tells us the ride for american restaurants in the uk show they are winning over british taste budd. >> reporter: there has never been a more american restaurantness london and demand is only growing. five guys opened up their first store here, four years ago, and now there are 67 restaurants across britain. the burger brand born in the washington d.c. area is the country's favorite fast food joint accord being to the latest survey. >> british people have been interested in food from all around the world and i think the offering of premium burgers and premium food from every where is catching on. >> reporter: do you like american food. >> i love american food. >> ribs, et cetera, et cetera i love it. >> reporter: he can get ribs here in london's new soul food joint. >> that is a good thing.
