>> right now on "eyewitness news," a heartwarming reunion for our alycia nieves. after more than a week after not knowing if her family was safe in puerto rico, alycia reconnected with her great grandmother. >> we are dying here and i cannot fathom the thought that the greatest nation in the world cannot figure out logistics for a small island of a hundred miles by 35 miles long. >> patience is running low in puerto rico. the mayor of san juan spoke of her frustration demanding more federal assistance for her people. good evening, i'm natasha brown. president trump is lashing out at mayor carmen yulin cruz in a war of words over recovery efforts right now 10 days after hurricane maria smashed into the u.s. territory. in a series of tweets on

saturday the president accused the mayor of "poor leadership" and wanting the government to do everything for them. meanwhile there are signs of recovery according to puerto rico's governor. more than 50 percent of gas operators are now up and running as well as most hospitals. millions are still without electricity and running low on food and water. >> i am begging, begging anyone that can hear us to save us from dying. >> i know that it's been devastating. i know your police force and everything else has been absolutely hurt. but we're sending people to help. and it's getting better on daily basis. >> well, the president will be visiting puerto rico wreak on tuesday to survey the damage for himself. alycia nieves is on the ground in puerto rico reporting from san juan after working a full day to get to her family further inland and we're very

happy to tell you that this evening alycia has reconnected with her great grandmother. she's sharing her story to give hope to others desperate to get in contact with their loved ones. >> reporter: puerto rico is an island devastated and nearly decimated after hurricane maria hit it two weeks ago. so we came here two days ago to try and go to parts that were hardest hit and reconnect some on the island with their loved ones back in the greater philadelphia area. we've done that and continue that mission again today except this time, it was personal. my photographer and i headed to find my 95-year-old great grandmother. the normally 45 minute drive in fact took two hours. roads weren't blocked by fallen trees but street signs were knocked down. we had to stop three times for directions and even call my family in new york on a satellite phone to get help. i worried this wasn't going to happen.

but one left turn after that call and we were in front of her home. with food and some supplies in hand i rushed to her faster than my camera could keep up. i felt like i could hardly breathe. with that one hug and her smile the stress for weeks i have been carrying went away. once she told me she was okay i wanted her to be able to tell my family that herself of the we had to go outside for the satellite phone to work and for the first time in 11 days i could help my grandmother. [speaking foreign language] >> reporter: her mother's voice. for five minutes he stayed strong kept a smile on her face reassuring us that through god she is safe. >> tambien. [speaking foreign language] >> reporter: i didn't have to ask my great grandmother how much that call meant to her. we could all tell by her face. i got to spend a total of one hour with her and just before i left, i took a photo with her to forever cherish this moment, this opportunity to do my job here and at the same

all day long. >> it makes it feel like we're working together. i mean, you know, everybody i think has it in their heart that they want to do something but people don't know how to do something and we're telling people like if you could just come down and bring us a case of water, bring us deodorant or something, you're being a part of the solution helping people. >> reporter: young dancers make good packers. >> today we have been packing all of these bags for women, men and kids. >> reporter: eight-year-old isabella whose whole family is puerto rican understands simply sending hygiene products can do a world of good. >> i don't want anybody to get sick or hurt. >> reporter: her uncle rick was in puerto rico during hurricane irma. >> it's one of the most beautiful places i've been to and i know that right now we're in crisis. we need help. we need help big time. >> reporter: to cap things off they're having a latin dance night tonight where if you come $15 cover goes

towards puerto rico relief but if you can't make that or couldn'tdonate they're collecting things in pennsauken. >> the search is on for a man caught on camera upskirting a wal-mart customer in south jersey on turnersville on tuesday night. surveillance video shows the man following the victim and then pointing his cell phone camera under her skirt. the vic testimony turned around to catch him in the act. if you recognize the suspect, please contact washington township police right away. also philadelphia police are looking for the gunman who critically wounded a man in east germantown. the shooting happened at germantown and abbottsford after 1 o'clock this morning. the 20-year-old victim was shot in the head and the leg. eyewitnesses told investigators they saw at least three men running from the scene. abington police are now investigating a deadly fall at lore mer park. a man accidentally fell from a

50-foot rock cliff near the main entrance along morton road. the cliff overlooks pennypack creek. police were called to the scene after the victim's body was discovered in the creek about 10 o'clock this morning. the victim is 57 years old and his name hasn't been released. philadelphia police on the alert for a a person that fired a bullet that hit a six-year-old. tonight we're hearing from the family of that little boy. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh has more. >> reporter: around 8:00 friday night gunfire erupted near the corner of 24th and diamond streets in north philadelphia. >> all of a sudden, somebody started shooting. we don't know who. we don't know why but he just got in the crossfire. just a block away six-year-old jayden cisco realized the stray put had hit him in the left shoulder says berniece speedy the child's grandmother. >> he just ran in crying and bending down and then i said

what's the matter, he said i got shot. >> reporter: speedy says the boy was shot while standing outside her home on 24th and norris streets. he had been waiting to cross the street with his father and 12-year-old brother. >> it was kind of hard for a little child. whew. kind of hard for all of us. you know, you don't wish this on nobody. >> reporter: paramedics rushed the now critical condition to temple university hospital. he's since been upgraded to stable and transferred to saint christopher's hospital. >> we have to wait until the swelling to go down to see if they can take the bullet out. >> reporter: family members say the child is resilient and expected to survive. the shooter is still at large. they're looking for a gunman wearing a gray hoodie or dark clothing. anyone with information is asked to call philadelphia police. i'm anita oh cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> dozens gathered in center city for the march to end rape culture. >> well, certainly not something you want to see from your airplane window. this air france flight headed to los angeles had to make an emergency landing when one of its four engines became seriously damaged mid flight. so far no word on how the engine was damaged this morning but luckily no injuries were reported thank goodness. and u.s. secretary of state rex tillerson is on his way now from his trip to beijing this week but before he left this afternoon, he had some pretty hopeful news about north korean relations at this point. at a press briefing in china secretary tillerson says the u.s. has direct lines of communication to pyongyang and that the country is not in the

dark. tillerson says they're probing and working on talks with north koreans before they complete their weapons development program. and tension between the u.s. and cuba continues to grow following the departure of more than half of the american embassy in havana this week. according to officials, the embassy will lose roughly 60 percent of its u.s. staff and will stop processing visas in cuba indefinitely. the order to leave comes as a response to mysterious recent specific attacks harming the health of u.s. diplomats. roughly 50 americans work at the embassy in havana. mexico city impromptu memorials for victims and rescuers are popping up as the capitol begins to come to terms with its losses after 38 buildings collapsed in mexico's 7.1 magnitude earthquake. white flowers and wreaths were piled up near the site where a school building collapsed killing 19 children and seven adults. all told, more than 350 people were killed in this

devastating quake. and two rumbling volcanoes threaten to blow their tops in southeast asia. one on an island, the other in bali but the 75,000 people who evacuated from their homes near bali were finally allowed to go home. the country's national disaster management agency says the 51 villages they came from are at least in safe zones. and now back here at home, a local church doing forces with habitat humanity philadelphia to improve access to affordable housing. bryn mawr presbyterian opened its lawn on montgomery avenue for a blitz framing day. volunteers framed the first and second floors of a habitat for humanity home. the structures will be transferred to a diamond park habitat's project at 16th and fontaine in north philadelphia. very nice. >> all right. >> we got chelsea with us tonight. >> yup. >> lovely weather. you brought the great weather today. >> i d it was kind of cool out there. >> it was a little chilly but i wasn't complaining because

it wasn't raining. >> we had a couple spotty showers here and there but those have moved out. we have a quiet night but a very chilly night going to be setting up as we head into the overnight hours. here's a live look at center city. we've had some clouds that kind of built up throughout the afternoon but those are going to be clearing out and things are just looking rather chilly but really nice as we head into the remainder of the weekend. let's show you a look at that official high temperature today. 66 degrees, okay, so that's actually even cool for this time of year for early fall. the average high is 72. and we were certainly well below that. we will see, however, a slow warming trend developing as we head throughout the upcoming week. here's a live look at storm scan3. we had a couple spotty showers that moved through earlier but notice things are quieting down. a couple clouds especially near the coastline but we'll see those skies clearing out as we head into the overnight hours tonight and those clear skies are going to allow temperatures to drop quite a bit and we're already in the

50's in spots, even 40's in the poconos. 47 degrees. 56 in allentown, we're in the upper 50's in philadelphia. down the shore temperatures are checking in in the low 60's to right around 60 degrees in atlantic city. it's 61 in wildwood. it's in the upper 50's in delaware. we have 59 in dover, right around 59 degrees in wilmington. look at these winds. they've been coming out of the north and it's been rather breezy throughout the day today. we have a wind sustained at 17 miles per hour in philadelphia. but we'll see after about the midnight hour these winds beginning to subside, at least a little bit. we'll see winds anywhere from five to 10 miles per hour throughout the overnight hours. so, with those winds, the direction coming out of the north it's just going to be a really chilly night setting up for a lot of us. here's a live look boardwalk plaza in rehoboth a couple extra clouds along the delaware beaches but we'll see partly cloudy skies for our delaware beaches and also down the shore heading into the overnight hours tonight but here in philadelphia we'll see
