good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. stephen paddock's girlfriend says he was a kind, caring, quiet man and she has no idea what prompted him to unleash a deadly barrage of gunfire at a concert, but it's clear it with us well planned. at least 58 people were killed and hundreds injured. mola lenghi is in las vegas with more. mola, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. the clark county sheriff says while there's no concrete evidence that anyone helped stephen paddock carried out his massacre, he couldn't have acted alone. the sheriff suggests at some point paddock had to have had some help. investigators in las vegas continue to comb through the life and hotel room of gunman

stephen paddock trying to figure out why he carried out sunday's massacre. >> we don't have any immediately accessful thumbprints that would indicate the shooter's ideology or motivation. >> president trump met wed with the survivors and first responders. they say there's evidence paddock planned to escape rather than kill himself as officers close in. they say none of the cameras were recording. joseph lombardo said it's impossible to imagine one man alone could have stockpiled this. investigators are hoping paddock can yield some answers. she voluntarily flew back from the philippines tuesday night and met with the fbi for hours of questions. just before the shooting patrick sent marilou danley to her

native country and wired her money. >> it never occurred to me in in way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone. >> law enforcement said paddock stockpiled 49 guns since 1982 and bought 33 over the last year. they have adjusted the number of injured to 489. that's down from the more than 500 originally reported. more than 300 have been released from the hospital, but about two dozen remain in critical condition. anne-marie. >> mola lenghi in las vegas. thank you, mola. as we mentioned, paddock had been stockpiled the weapons. he purchased the guns in four states, california, utah, and texas. that's why he was able to fly under the radar. >> we wouldn't get notified of

professor kafbs from the university of utah led the research. >> some of the systems are difficult for a driver to use. >> reporter: the study found drivers were visually distracted for more than 40 seconds when programming the navigation system or sending a text message. aaa saes removing your eyes from the road for just two seconds doubles the risk of a crash. this man took part in the study and near missed a stop sign. >> reporter: researchers say voice commands also take the driver's attention off the road. look at this woman's eyes as she tries to make a call. aaa is sharing the relates with au automakers, safety experts want car companies to change infotainment systems so the most distracting systems are locked
