developing right now, named and downgraded to a tropical storm as it impacts millions along the gulf coast, it made land fall overnight for a second time near biloxi, mississippi and already cut power to thousands of people. it is the third hurricane to hit the u.s. mainland in just six weeks. today is sunday october 8th, good morning everyone i'm jan carabao. we will get a check of our forecast with just a moment but first the latest on nate. correspondent courtney dubow sky is live in biloxi, mississippi where the storm made land fall overnight. how sit looking there. >> reporter: good morning, jan we are in the area where we saw the most flooding because of storm surge in the biloxi

right along casino row, some of these casinos took on water but that water has since receded inside and outside and if you want to look at other debris there is ross on the road, and there is winds on the road in some area that we cannot access. police are telling us there are light poles, and piers that flew off of the beach on the road, so jan, widespread damage across the area, and at some point this morning clean up will begin. >> right now, courtney we are seeing your video as well. it looks like really strong wind there, how did this hurricane or the tropical storm now compared to some we have seen in the pennsylvania. >> reporter: well, i was just in irma and harvey and i have to say that those were a lot stronger, we also had a lot more prep time for those and they lasted longer. this was a fast one, nate was in and out, so, even if it

were a strong as those it was so fast, that it didn't do as much damage as some of the other storms, including maria and jose that we have seen so far this year. >> i'm sure preparation helped as well. how did the areas along the gulf prepare for this, this storm. >> reporter: well, this is the gulf coast and they were all over it, before the storm hit, we saw a lot of sand bagging, people were boarding up their homes, some of the areas near the coast were evacuated and people heated those warnings, people tying up their boats. there were shelters opened but people just decided to stay inside and wait out the storm and that is what they did. >> courtney, there in biloxi, mississippi we will get back to you. thanks so much. lets get a check of our weather. lets go over to meteorologist chelsea ingram with the eyewitness weather forecast. still tracking nate, this morning and have been downgraded this morning from the hurricane. >> it has been downgraded and we will tap into those tropical ingredients but not

until columbus day and tomorrow. right now we will be dealing with a couple showers. let's show you latest information on nate and look at the tropical satellite. nate will be very quickly weakening, throughout the day and as jan already mentioned it has been downgraded to a tropical storm. here's latest information, from the most recent update from the national hurricane center. winds of 07 miles an hour and look at how quickly it is moving to the north/north east at 23 miles per hour. that is what makes nate so different from say, what we saw with harvey that just sat there, didn't move, caused flooding but nate is booking it getting in and out as our reporter told you. so, as it continues to make its way off to the north and east it will continue to weaken and then by the time it gets in our neck of the wood it is just remnants, bringing us a chance for rain, and could be heavier at times as we head into monday. in the meantime 74 degrees in

philadelphia 74 wilmington. seven millville. seventy-two in wildwood. 74 degrees in atlantic city. i will show you storm scan three. we have rain located off to the west. we will continue to see that track toward the east and that will bring us a chance for some showers as we head into the morning hours, today, and then, by the afternoon there might be a lull in the rain if we're lucky looking at some dry weather for the game, but we're going to continue to track this throughout the morning, for now, jan, sending it back to you. >> chelsea, we will check back with you. thank you. this m of their homes after an overnight fire, this fire broke out just before 1:00 in the 4400 block of windgate street in philadelphia's holmesberg section, the fire spread to several surrounding homes there, one fire fighter was hospitalized with a minor injury, and neighbors who live nearby said they feel the heat >> melt the panels on the

house, and the street, 100 feet or more away. we felt the heat in our house all the way from over there. >> now fire fighters, were able to get flames there under control in just about an hour, the fire displaced again three people and a cat. right now it is not yet clear what may have sparked this fire. another overnight fire to tell but now at a town home complex in winslow township, camden county. fire fighters were called to medford court in sicklerville around 2:30 this morning. crews were able to get this fire under control in 30 minutes. a family of five was able to make it out of the home safely red cross is now assisting them no word on what caused this fire. this morning a three-year old has third degree burns after he fell into a bond fire , this happened, in the 800 block of allentown road and franconia township montgomery county. crews were called this just after 9:00 last night, the child was air lifted to lehigh valley hospital with non-life

threatening injuries. fire investigators are trying to pinpoint what sparked a quick moving fire that destroyed a delaware county home. the fire fighters rush to this burning house onouth middletownn middletown yesterday afternoon they were on that scene for about two hours, no one was hurt. well, police are still looking for gunman who shot a corner store owner while that owner recovers in the hospital this morning. this shooting happened friday night, at freddie grocery in mantua, in the 3400 block of fairmount avenue. also, officers say the 48 year-old store owner was shot just before closing time, a neighbor who is a former paramedic heard someone yell for help and she ran to the scene to help that victim. >> they put direct pressure on her. >> if you needed something so badly all they had to do was ask her but to do this, this is ugly, this is ignorant, this is unnecessary. >> police say motive was likely robbery but it does not

look like anything was taken, at last check the store owner was in critical condition at penn presbyterian. police are reviewing surveillance video. a warning for students at the university of delaware now newark police say a man arrested earlier this week for allegedly, harassing students on campus is month is missing. david tymus was last seen in newark early saturday morning driving a damage brown minivan , he is now bald, no longer has green hair or eyebrows. and, they say he has made statements that caused concern for himself and others. he also has, no affiliation with the university. if you see him, call the police. in london now police say a car crash that injured at lee 11 people was not, was a traffic accident, not a terroristic attack. but as roxanats the crash raised fears of terrorism following several attacks in britain this year. >> reporter: in a country on edge after several weeks of

terrorist attacks a crash in one of the london's busiest tourist areas saturday, sparked a swift response. >> turnaround, and. >> reporter: simon says that the car ran into the pedestrian and his cab, outside the natural history museum. >> three or four guys dragged him out of the car on the floor and come out, and then the police came. >> reporter: this video posted on social media shows a man getting pinned to the ground. dozens of armed officers soon flooded the area and then blocked it off. >> i was having dinner in a restaurant here by the corner and i saw officers, police cars go past. >> police say get down, get down and they bring us here. >> reporter: police say car jumped the curb and collided with pedestrians. london's ambulance service said they treated 11 people for injuries but none life threatening. authority later determined that it was a road traffic collision not related to terrorism. the crash sparked fears

good day. >> today will not be as nice as yesterday was, yesterday was gorgeous like a summer day out there but it will be different. we have more in the way of cloud cover and risk for showers across the region. let's start off with a live look from palmyra cove nature park. you can see how the sky looks, illuminated we have city lights reflecting off the overcast cloud cover, out there, so it is making the skies look brighter, but yes, we're completely cloudy out there. it is 74 degrees right now in philadelphia we are in the low to mid 70's down the shore. 72 degrees right now in wildwood and 74 in atlantic city. seventy-four in allentown. upper 60's in mount pocono. seventy-five reading. 75 degrees currently in lancaster. now looking at storm scan three we have been overall fairly quiet through the night tonight, maybe a sprinkle here and there throughout the city but this band of rain located out to our west, starting to make its way in portions of lancaster, berks county, lehigh valley, up in the poconos too but as it pushes

toward thee it will be weakening, somewhat, throughout the morning hours, and i still think it will make it into philadelphia, bringing us a couple of showers, maybe light in nature, associated with a cold front so this is not, this is not the remnants of the nate, we will be tapping into that tropical moisture, as we head into tomorrow. meanwhile we will show you a look at tropical storm nate. has been downgraded bringing very heavy rainfall right along i10 and panhandle of florida. here's where we also have a tornado risk from 10:00 a.m. central time. we will watch that as well. heavy rain out toward montgomery and then monroe villas well dealing with some pretty hefty showers. here's the latest from the national hurricane center. the latest update winds of around 70 miles per hour, it it is moving north/northeast extremely fast at 23 miles an hour as it continues to make that land interaction. it will be weakening very, very quickly and by the time

it gets towards the north a east mid-atlantic we will deal with the remnants of nate but that still means we can have heavy rain at times but this means that we have seen, four u.s. hurricane land falls. i mean what a hurricane season of course, nate most recently louisiana near the mouth of the mississippi and then near biloxi early this morning, maria in puerto rico, south florida for irma and florida keys and then harvey our first one this season rockport, texas. what a season. so here's how things will be panning out on future weather. note that is band of rainy was showing you on radar earlier. gangs it will be weakening as it pushes east at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. we could be dealing with showers right along center city and then with some luck we will have a little bit of the dry period and into this afternoon and also this he can, but still the clouds will be around, and some spots might tap into a peak of sunshine and then the bulk of the rain will head our way as we make it toward your monday

located out west. it will continue to weaken as it presses toward thee but it will provide with us a couple of morning showers as we head through the next couple of hours, with some luck though, we could potentially be dealing with some maybe a dry afternoon. so that is something we will keep an eye on as well. it is 74 degrees right now in philadelphia, down the shore in the low to mid 70's. seventy-two in wildwood. right around 74 in atlantic city. upper 60's in the poconos and we have got 75 degrees, currently in lancaster. here's what you can expect planning out your day around 9:00 a.m. we will still be dealing with these showers across the region. 73 degrees. seventy-five by noon time. we will have a little bit of a brief, dry lull that we will get to enjoy but plenty of cloud still around and it will be a warm, steamy afternoon, talking about high temperatures in the upper 70's now here is a quick check at what is now a tropical storm nate. it has been downgraded since we made two land falls earlier

yesterday and overnight into this morning, was around 70 miles an hour and it will continue to weaken as it interacts with land throughout the next several hours and throughout the day and then by the time it makes it toward the northeast, it is going to be bringing us the remnants of nate. so we will talk about more rain in the forecast for your monday, i'll have details in your full forecast. for now, back to you, jan. thanks, chelsea. sticking with nate this morning millions of people along the gulf coast are feeling effects of nate, it was downgraded tropical storm this morning. the storm made a second u.s. land fall outside biloxi earlier this morning as a category one hurricane. it is the first hurricane to make land fall in that state since hurricane katrina back in 2005. now the storm had already made land fall in the u.s. last night, it came a shore in a sparsely populated area in southe louisiana, no deaths or injuries have been reported, but the storm has already knocked out power, to thousands of people along the

gulf coast. states of emergency are now effect in lieu san, mississippi, alabama, correspondent natasha chen reports from biloxi mississippi. >> nate's officially the third hurricane to hit u.s. mainland in six weeks making land fall in louisiana near mouth of the mississippi river as a category one storm with max sustained wind at 85 miles an hour and making second land fall along mississippi coastline after passing over the sound. >> be vigilant, stay alert and have a plan. >> reporter: lou san, mississippi anal bam a declared states of emergency ahead of the rifle telling residents to get prepared. >> we could see a storm surge of up to 10 feet, isolated tornadoes, inland flooding and flooding of low lying coastal areas. >> reporter: issued evacuations and curfews for low lying areas. >> mandatory evacuation. >> reporter: gulf coast residents heated those warnings. >> i got extra prepared, i bought all of the water, all

of the snacks, food, everything. >> everything we can to prepare and hopefully help the islanders, with what we can do with batteries, flashlights, ice, we have a generator here. so, hopefully that will work and that will be one of the only places opened for next couple days. >> reporter: president trump assured that fema is prepared for hurricane nate and urged resident to listen to local authorities n biloxi mississippi, i'll natasha chen in other news today investigators are still trying to figure out why a gunman opened fire on a cons inert las vegas. the shooting happened one week ago, and left 58 people dead. yesterday, vice-president mike pence spoke at a prayer service in las vegas and he and his wife laid flowers at a memorial for the victims. investigators have begun clearing backpacks and other belongings from the place where that concert took place, terrified concert goers left those things behind when the gun fire erupted. now people around the country are remembering the

"eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves spoke with several people there, there to offer their prayers. >> reporter: candles lit in the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul in philadelphia, 58 of them, one by one, lit in the basilica off the communion rail each one a burning memory of each life lost last week in las vegas. >> the lord be with you. >> reporter: this saturday's mass had a special focus on sunday's mass shooting a mass shooting that has become the worst in american history. nearly 60 are dead and hundreds more shot and injured and so many families forever changed. >> it was just horrible what happened to all these people and children. >> reporter: christine baker visiting the philadelphia area from south carolina heard of this mass for vegas and

to open upright here in olde city. >> well, i mean olde city is a historic area. we have museum of the american revolution, that just opened autopsy cross the street. we knew that was going on. we chose this location on the corn tore bolster the history, little lines, alexandria hamilton nickname so we took that name for our restaurant and tied it into the history of the area. >> reporter: so also, you know , you guys are very popular for brunch and other things. there are tons of people who love this restaurant but in olde city can you talk about the divide here and what you see from the people coming in and what would you like to take away from the event today >> well, olde city's changing. it is definitely a very family oriented neighborhood. we've got a lot of, great restaurants that have opened up, we have a lot of great museums and a lot of great history. you know, philly's a tourist time and we want people to come visit and see how great our city and and how great olde city is. this festival is a
