>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. >> this is deplorable. >> anger and frustration as mold concerns shutdown an entire school district. we'll hear from parents who say they're upset at how school lead verse handled this mess. and out west, huge wild fires leaving death and destruction across california. the weather is making it tough for crews to get the flames under control. >> student is accused of shooting and killing an officer inside a police station. we'll tell were you officers said led up to the gunfire. today is tuesday, october 10, good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm rahel solomon. a check on today's forecast with katie and the roads with meisha. >> roads are dry.

>> you're right, the weather thankfully has cleared out nicely. few showers last evening, but that's basically done at this point. you look at storm scan, not much to see. now you see few speckles of green that pop up there. don't worry about that, i don't expect any wet weather here today. primarily going to see few additional clouds overhead. the good thing about today is that the worse of the humidity , thank goodness, is starting to go by by the wayside. granted it is still little on the muggy side walking out the door. always transition that needs to be made, you can't just snap your fingers and have that really comfortable air in place, right? so, expect with time that the humidity will gradually lower, still, offer to incredibly mild start, low to mid 70s, from the shore on inland, toward philadelphia. so you can actually walk out the door on october 10th without the need of any kind of extra layer. very, very mild start to the day. and again, as the kids are going maybe back to school, for the first day of the week, it is going to be very warm

afternoon. so, granted, it is not terribly humid like recent days here, meisha, but certainly is still warm. eighty-four the expected high. >> i know, 84. >> way above average. >> all right, great, katie, i love it. good morning, everyone, looking outside like i said, just construction out there. things are actually looking real nice. we have this closure the schuylkill westbound at 30th street. closed but overnight construction hopefully crews are moving out of their way now. i know right here looking at overnight resurface on the schuylkill eastbound between the turnpike and gulph mills. that has now just been cleared westbound side has been cleared for little bit. so looking good there. more construction where crews are starting to move out of the way, we do have the squad car here, 322 eastbound between trooper and first avenue. right lane was compromised. crews starting to move out of the way there so looking betterment 59 northbound between route one and route three it, cones still in the roadway there. jim, back over to you. >> meisha, frustration, anger and confusion, thousands of

student rent told to stay home while their schools are check for mold. >> "eyewitness news" reporter henry rossoff live in williamstown, new jersey, where parents are looking for answers. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jim , rahel. really is a bit after messy situation. parents were told last night the school behind me has been closed since late last week over the molds concerns. that's just a sample of oatmeal g, emergency meeting last night, where frustrated parent were told by district officials that now all six schools in the district will be closed for the time being until testing can be done. that closure is expected to last at least through the ends of the week. some par have told us their children have been dealing with headaches, stomach issues for awhile, and wondering now if it was the mold. >> i'm real upset that the kids are off school for a week you had all summer to test for everything. and now they're out of school.

>> this creating major childcare issues, as well, here at holly glenn, and the other schools in the district, coming up in about a half hour from now, what the superintendent has to say about all of this. but for now, liver in williamstown, henry rossoff, cbs-3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you, henry. mold concerns at chelten ham high school force the district to shut down the school library. the library has been sealed off, and self-contained h vac system is shutdown, seeing what needs to be done in other parts of the school. schedules renovation to the library have also been moved to up this year. >> twenty-one year old man is in stable condition after he's shot during apparent robbery attemptment. this happened at around midnight near b and lowden streets in feltonville. the victim was hit in the hip and was returned to the hospital. list say they have a description of the suspect and are checking local surveillance cameras for video of the confrontation. >> well, an update now to story we first brought you yesterday morning. we now know that it was a

temple university student, who was shot and killed by police in miami beach after hitting an officer with a car. twenty-two year old kerry ann denise highton seen in this youtube video. authority say she was driving to drive away from the scene after accident sunday evening, when she struck an officer. another officer opened fire killing her. her father told our sister station in miami that his daughter was in south florida celebrating her birthday. >> meanwhile, a texas tech student accused in deadly shooting of campus police officer is under arrest this morning, authorities have identified the suspect as 19 year old hole as daniels, freshman at text tech. the university says officers took daniels in for questioning earlier in the day , after finding drugs and drug paraphernalia in his room >> they brought the student down to text tech to a police station, and had had a de briefing, which is normal procedure. sometime during the de driving , the student pulled a gun, and fatally wounded one

of the officers. >> daniel fled the station after the shooting forcing the campus to lockdown, in a lockdown was lifted shortly after daniels was arrested. state of emergency is now in effect in northern california as wild fires just tear through the region, at least ten people are dead, at least 1500 homes are damaged. cbs news core upon dent daniel knott ingham has a closer look what's fanning the flames. >> authority in california work throughout the night battling multiple wilds fires, the largest ones burning in northern california's wine country. >> armagetton. just gone, everything is gone. >> at least 15 wild fires ignited in the region sunday, forcing the evacuation of at least two hospitals. >> this is my neighborhood in flames. >> tens every thousands every residents in nap a and so no, ma'am a counties fled their homes, late monday, officials i am posted mandatory curfew in the city santa rosa from sunset to sunrise to keep

looters away. >> everybody who is out in those hours will be subject to stop and potentially arrest. >> here in santa rosa, in so no, ma'am a county, you can see the wild fires desomated house after house. authorities say hi winds, low humidity, help the flames spread quickly. >> it was very, very windy, very dry winds, and it was very taxing for the entire city. >> those conditions also fanned a massive brush fire further south in the anaheim hills area early tuesday, that destroyed several homes. as resident returned in to save animals there, joseph pain and his family got to work. >> we dropped the garden host, the power washer, bucket of waters because we had a pool and started putting out. >> about 500 firefighters are battling the inferno. anticipate a thousand to be on the scene come tuesday morning daniel nottingham, cbs-3, eyewitness news. >> student at the university of hawaii are getting tips

what they should do during nuclear attack. school sent e-mail titled in the event of nuclear attack, this comes as tensions between the us and north korea continue to rise. officials say it would take less than 20 minute for north korean missile to reach honolulu, in july hawaii first state to launch a campaign, preparing for a nuclear attack >> happening today, preliminary hearing for a father whose son was killed during alleged shoplifting spree. twenty-seven year old christopher coon of hamilton new jersey faces third agree murder charges in the death of his two year olson. police say coon caused a three -car crash in tullytown bucks county, while fleeing a wal-mart last week. the toddler, who was not in a carseat, was ejected during the violent crash. >> a man now under arrest in the murder of a philadelphia community activist. six a year old winnie harris was found shot to death in her west philadelphia home back in february. well, police have announced the arrest of 39 year old nelson get innings, he faces

>> welcome back, 4:42, here is something you don't see every day, wild police chase involving an ambulance. dash cam captured this in mount clemente michigan over the weekend. suspect 21 years old, stole the ambulance while paramedics were inside a hospital attending to a patient. the chase didn't last long. the driver taken into custody without incident. >> coast guard on the scene of possible hazmat situation on the providence river in rhode island. only the top after crane is visible after a 100-foot barge went down on the river yesterday. officials say the barge anchored therefore about two years, it is not clear this morning what caused the barge to sing, but right now, officials are more concerned about leaking materials. once the scene is secured, salvage companies will remove the barge from the river. >> well it, has been more than

two weeks since hurricane maria hit puerto rico, now the island dealing with flashflooding. you see roads turned into rivers after heavy rain hit puerto rico sunday. police drove through the flooded streets looking for anyone, and nearly eight a% of the hurricane ravaged island still without power. officials say 16,000 federal and military personnel are on the island helping with recovery efforts. well, the time now 4:43. katie is here with another check on your forecast. >> yesterday it was so messy and soupy. today talking about the heat? >> yes, so, the worse of any of the moisture has definitely made its retreat at this point we are left with a dry day. but thankfully, also, the humidity is starting to get scaled back, so that's, so often, the xfactor. that's what's going to lead to comfort or not. certainly, the last couple every days have been absolutely just completely uncomfortable. just gross to walk outside to. but, now, starting to see the dew point drop off. still humid now. won't see that immediately

just get scaled back. but, it is a gradual process, but notice, here, on storm scan, there is not much to track locally. we do, however, have another system starting to get its act together. starting to show a little bit more organization across the central planes. this will first lift in as a warmfront, followed up by cold front, we will see couple of shots of showers as a result of that, in the next couple of days, but not today. meantime, we still have the warmth to work with. these at first glance might look like the current temperatures, which are already warm, but they're actually the current dew points. so those, again, those numbers are starting to drop off little bit. but you still got the dew point in the 70s, so it will still feel pretty steamy walking will gradually drop off from northwest to southeast, with more after northwesterly wind flow also kicking in. now, today again, it will be a hot day. does it come to record territory, no, not quite. few degrees shy of that. calling for high of 84. that's very warm obviously, but back in 1939, on october 10th, we hit 90. so it should and far enough cry from that here, no matter where we end up, we aren't

going to actually flirt with any records. but, meantime, later on tonight, it still is warm, down to just 66 degrees, good news again that winds flow turns more northerly. so it should not be anywhere near as steamy for you. that will be the case throughout the day. but, we do have wet weather returning to the forecast, as early as tomorrow. specially into the second half of the day. but we do again have couple of front to track here, so watch for some additional showers on thursday. friday, primarily, just clouds , but we may see sprinkle, and that's the case saturday, as well, take a look , we're warming right back up to the low 80s, by sunday, meisha. >> all right. thank you so much, katie. good morning, everyone. happy tuesday. we're just looking at a lot of construction out there in the worlds of travel. do have one minor accident that popped up. get to that in just a moment. right now looking at crews clearing up, schuylkill westbound at 30th. all lanes blocked, then one lane open, now looks like they're blocking it just as they remove the cones. but you can already see the pile-up is starting to happen right now. so, again, schuylkill westbound at 30th, but they're

starting to clear that out of your way now, construction here also starting to clear, 95 northbound between route one, route 332, right lane compromised there, again, they're moving out of your way , the vine not closed overnight for the construction , so westbound, eastbound, looking good. now this is where we do have the accident this morning, on of the northeast extension, does have injuries and vehicle fire, northeast extension southbound before lansdale, heads up, if this is your neck of the woods, avoid the area if you can. still showing a lot of green around the area. but you will start to get a little bit of gaper delay depending where when the vehicle fire goes out. pa turnpike some construction crews out there near downingtown, right lane still compromised. >> this guy has cleared. more construction in jersey as well. forty-two north, south, between route 55, and college drive. one lane is open there. and more construction sean to talk about when we come back in the next ten minute, jim, back to you. >> as soon as today, could declare independence from spain, follows highly controversial rev run dumb. cat loan a leader set to

easily here today. you'll see. for now, storm scan3 is quiet. we barely have any cloud cover overhead. at least high cloud cover. but again, there is still ample moisture. wind light enough, may of you may encounter little fog. temperature change we've end encountered in the last 24 hour, nearly 10 degrees cooler than this same time yesterday. yes, you will notice that. the thing is it is still warm enough, that you can still walk out the door for the most part without the need after jacket. now, getting into that gray area, as go to up mount pocono sixty-one sort of on the border if you me. you may want to think about a spare layer there. but 73 in the city, atlantic city? that's not bad. and once that sun comes up, all we can do, of course, rebounds from here, granted, still going to find at least some cloud cover overhead, but , it is down right august- like hot day, with some sunshine, and the good news is the worse of that humidity is really scaling back. we have a couple of fronts to track, however, in the next few days. so wet weather returns to this outlook, even as early as tomorrow, first with warmfront

, then cold front passage, and with time, even, despite that cold front, we are set to rebound again back to the low 80s come sunday, also with some sunshine. looks good, meisha >> does look pretty nice. katie, thank you so muchment and the good news is then we have the nice dry roadways helping our commute this early tuesday morning, so very dark out there, still early, construction crews moving out of the way. looking at it here, schuylkill at westbound at 30th. they're moved out. completely cleared out. it was clear, then one lane open, then all lanes block for little bit. they're all gone, looking good there. taillights, before the betsy ross, what you are looking at out there, looking really nice still on five. , and that's what i hope i can keep there until around 5:30, where we start to mix things up maybe just little bit. ben franklin bridge looking here, if you travel from jersey, head westbound into center city, looking good, nice and quiet. now we do have an accident out there, so on the northeast extension south downed before lansdale, accident about injuries, and vehicle fire, still seeing a lot of green around this area. so we're not getting into any
