6:38 am
shift tax burden more toward those who have the greater ability to pay. now, cord to go pew research as of 2015 that is mess recent year available taxpayers with incomes of $200,000 or more paid nearly 59 percent of federal income taxes even though they accounted for four and a half percent of returns filed. by contrast those below 30,000 , filed 44 percent of all returns but they paid just 1.4 percent of all federal income tax. >> so jill, we talked about tax brackets but what is an effective tax rate. >> this is really the important number, and this is the way thaw can determine what your actual federal tax rate is, and the way you calculate it is you take your total income tax thaw owe and you divide it by your adjusted gross income. so when we find out is on average those who make less than 30 grand they pay an effective rate of 4.9 percent.
6:39 am
scare that with 9.2 percent if you make 50 to 100 grand, 12 and a half percent for those with incomes of 100 to 200,000 here's the issue the system really starts to lose its progressty as we get to the highest levels that is because earned income when you make money from work, that is treated differently then investment income. it is also why warren buffet says he pays a lower tax rate then his assistant. details emerge, each tweak will create a winner and loser at every level, i promise, i will come back and tell you all bit. >> great advice. >> yep. on the biggest names in fashion, getting a make over, and parent company of luxury brand coach, will new be called tapestr, designer handbag company says it reflecting its full line of brand. coach recently bought stewart whitesman shoes and kate spade , it takes effect at end of this month, however, coach bags and accessories will still have the coach name on
